I stopped by Toys R Us today and found a rather strange sight, a stack of gold Ninja Knight four packs. Previously these had been available in Canada and for a short time, through Walmart.com. But I hadn't seen them in the US.
These aren't just leftovers. They changed the packaging to English only and removed the Spin Masters logos.
Sorry, no photos or price.
Well, thats good news. I missed these the 1st time around...still strange that they've come back...

I came to start a new thread on this topic, but it already exists...lol. I stopped at TRU today and found the "limited edition" TMNT gold Ninja Knights. I paid $24.99 for the 4 turtles, and they come with a large selection of midevil weapons. The gold armor snaps on and off to reveal a 2k3 ish style turtle. I hope this helps anyone looking for a limited edition variant set.

Why in the name of my father Oroku Saki can you people not post some friggin' pics? :x
Edit: Nevermind. Apparently I'm a "quicker thinker" than anyone else on here, went to Toys 'R' Us' website and found a pic:

I can't post pics because I did not buy a set.
And as for you quick thinking, you might want to spend that time looking a little closer because that pic isn't of the domestic set. If you look, it has the Spin Masters logo on it as well as being multilingual. As I said in my first post, They updated this packaging to remove the logo and make it English only.

I own the set from two years ago so I don't give a sh!t about this one. Variant or not. Also, some people don't care about it enough to spend the time to be a "QUICKER THINKER" due to having a personal life.
If your time is so much more valuable than anyone else's here, why waste it on looking for TMNT toys?

I would love to say yes but sense the current conditions of Playmates and the Powers That Be are making is a very hard possibility. We got to see pretty cool Jack Kirby-ish aliens for the spring line of '08. but what we didn't see was the Ninja Tribunal. If any thinks hard enough about it, they are TMNT Movie 2007 canon thanks to the Leo prequel.
With Overdrive trying to blend TMNT 2k3 and FF together, we might... we might see something in summer 2008 that gives us the Purple Dragon and the last of the Fast Forwards. Playmates getting desperate to have new figures hit the shelves and these characters are perfect additions to both previous TMNT shows and their merger, Overdrive.
Playmates did surprise us with a Savanti Romero and a Nobody. We might finally start getting to see what we want. Playmates kind of pitched it already with their idea of reinventing the old characters.
Perhaps in the near future Playmates might start making things like "Ruin" aka Mutagen Man, despite him not being in the show.
I could live with that. Kinda like how I lived with the Minnetonka monster or Scumbug rip off.
Heck, a frog mutant with three variant color schemes could easily appeal to everyone.
That or they could do what Transformers is doing... New design for a character. New look with the colors. Variant with the regular old Generation One colors.
A Bloodsucker figure could easily be Wyrm as well.

Since this isn't a "new" product, they are old figures with a new paint scheme, and even the gold paint scheme was already released in Canada, I don't think this is any indication of Playmates testing the waters for "Best Of" sets. If we are lucky though, we might see a North American release of the Commando Elite repaints of the Fighting Gear figures that were released overseas.
Looks pretty good -- I'll probably buy it if I see it!

I finally picked up one of the sets today. Other than the packaging changes I mentioned before (single language and removal of the Spin Masters logos) the two versions are basically identical. But here are two comparison photos. (BTW, I say basically identical because there seems to be a minor difference in the color of Michelangelo's quiver. But the difference is so minor that I believe it is nothing more than the usual color variation that can happen with different batches of plastic.)

I found these on the weekend-- I thought at first it was some strange left-over thing (and there was only ONE at my TRU)-- then I saw last night that the packaging listed them as 2007---
Mine...

I saw a pile of these at my local TRU in GA (the gold Knights), oddly enough after I was wanting the dark turtles, hoping they would stock them at Big Lots like the other FF figures, they had restocked them at TRU, they had all the dark turtles, only one of each, I got all but Dark Mike.
I do not know if they had a box they found stuffed somewhere or if they are getting new stock from the same place Big Lots is, all I know is that they only had Splinter, the kid, and the robot the other day, and yesterday they had also stocked , Torbin Zixx, SH'OKANABO, All the Dark Turtles, Cody, Serling, Viral, Splinter.
They used them to fill a couple of pegs that had been emptied of movie toys. I do not know if this is a localized thing or if it is all around.
And Also, had found 2 Dark Mikes at a Dollar General, of all places, they had odd orange tags and looked like they had been there for quite some time.

When I was at Toys R' Us last, they had new shipments of Fast Forward toys that weren't there previously (i.e., they had one of each of the Dark Turtles, one Viral, and one Torbin when I was there the time before - and I bought all of the Dark Turtles. Then this last time and they had one of each of the villains - including the Dark Turtles - and many of the heroes). So I don't think it's just a localized thing. Strangely enough, they only had the first wave of movie figures still.

They seem to be trying to clean out their old stock. I stopped by the local TRU today to pick up Mario Galaxy and they had put out some of the old 2 packs that were released before the Fast Forward line and even some of the first series Ninja Action figures!

For $13 per figure, they should get some pretty impressive looking packaging. But if any one is interested in ordering TMNT figures from Japan, try this site: Japan-Toys.com (http://www.japan-toys.com/cgi-bin/us-goods2.cgi?key=mutant%20ninja)
I've only ordered from them once in the past but had no problems. Their prices are pretty good, but when I ordered, they didn't offer any lower cost shipping options.
