Yeah, I noticed. But, the tmnt-files site did say you were moving.

I updated the news. As for now, we are staying. The changes on server shouldn't affect us, but if they do, then we will move.

dude karpo, i don't think we should keep doing this, we don't want krang to get in trouble, his site could get shut down for talking about this stuff... I think the general public knows about the cahns already, no need to go overboard..

Karpo_007
02-10-2003, 04:32 PM
There is nothing illegal in it. Besides, we have had IRC related topic here for a long time.

Karpo you are a fantastic person!!! Thank you so much for the guide on how to get files.

MWA!!!!

No problem. There are many people to whom downloading is the only option.

PWDESAI

Umm except the fact the downloading episodes IS illegal.... especially the new toon. It's very illegal karpo, I know there have been threads before this, but now with the new toon, the execs are going to start checking these types of sites, they do with www.he-man.org all the time. Thetechnodrome could get in a lot of trouble, and i think it best if we just stopped making new threads. No offense or anything but i'm just saying...
btw #Ninja-turtles is not my channel, it's everyones channel... I mean everyone is welcome, sure i founded it, but where would i be if no one joined? I really think of it as a branch of 80s-cartoons since they really help bring in people.

The episodes are free on TV, this is totally diffrent from IE DVD rips. I really doubt there will be any problems. I mean TMNT-files has it's own forums, and discussion is not illegal. Neither is posting guides how to get shared files. Krang should not in any case have any problems. But of course if he decided to ban Filesharing as a topic here, I will respect his decision.

PWDESAI
02-10-2003, 04:48 PM
actually it's quite illegal in many ways...
Why do you think so many sites say you shouldn't talk about this sort of thing. Here are a few reasons
1. you don't own it, or the rights to it
2. What if they were to come out on dvd, and u were sharing them that no one wanted them. It's actually tremendously illegal, just not as much as you said dvd rips. If i were you i would keep a low profile on the channel. You do the #tmnt-files site isn't as mainstream as this one. I mean you have like 99 members to the forums...

Karpo_007
02-10-2003, 04:50 PM
That forum has 99 members, and Like I said, it is Krangs decicion.

PWDESAI
02-10-2003, 04:54 PM
I changed it to 99, and yes it is krangs decision.

Ok, ignore that I'm in!!! THANK YOU KARPO!!!!!!!!!

But there is no one else here and when I type "!list" all I get is "<Chris> !list" in the main window instead of the list of servers shown in Karpo's guide, and help? Probably just have to wait until others are online, but since I've not used this before I just want to be sure I've not made a mistake.

02-11-2003, 04:15 AM
Actually, I would prefer if people would discuss how to download the new episodes off these forums, or at least through private messages. I allowed the discussion of downloading the original cartoon's episodes because they haven't been shown in the US in years, they're not on DVD, MWS doesn't exist anymore, and Artisan isn't doing anything with their rights to the show. But the companies behind the new cartoon are making money off the episodes, and they would probably go after sites that contain instructions on how to download the episodes. So please don't post about how to download the new episodes. I don't want to lose the site or get into legal trouble over a cartoon I don't even like. :P

Chris

Just readed the whole thread after pwdesai told me about this (thx ^^ )
I was going to say that since you're paying cable you can tape a show which you technically paid for ( i'm guessing the same rule apply to divx copies ) then distribution of the new episodes should be fine untill there is a DVD release of it...however now that i readed krang's post i think it might've hurt future dvd sales...or it might not :ohwell: whatever might be the case, i got yer point, no talking about downloading the new toon, right? :P Well then i agree with it, i dun' wanna see this board get in trouble either.
I must get in that irc server '[...]' everyone is talking about, seems like one helluva server :P :P :P :P

While the TV shows are free to air, you to have to have rights to republish them...even in schools believe it or not! (Teachers can get fined for showing movies and taped broadcasts to classes...although I don't know of any who have.)

However, few people do. Its okay to tape...but not okay to mass distribute... that's hasn't really stopped anyone.

However, I do think the good people at mirage and other organizations surrounding the turtles will not have a huge problem...(though discussion should be done in private e-mails and on file transfer sites like Imesh, Kaza...and so on.) I don't think they will because it promots their show....it helps spred the word...and for a new show (though not a new idea) it never hurts.

Plus I'm pretty sure that they realize most of us go out and buy the products they do produce ie Toys, Comics, DVDs of films and the like.

My thoughts are: spred the show...but do so discreatly.

Yah i see your point...if noone will probably arrest you for giving a tape of a show he payed for with his cable thing or whatever to a friend, then the same might apply to divx copies i guess, but the 'net is kinda different in some ways, as there's no way of knowing they payed for cable and stuff (not that it really matters to me  but you know..) and most importantly in places such as forums the info stays online, real life is more 'discreet' as you've put it (Unless you go running around the street shouting "HAR IM GIVING OUT COPIES OF TAR NINGA TORTLEZ EPESOEDS!" and wave your tapes in the face of a cop, but chances are he'll think you're nuts instead of arresting you.)
Well then i guess as long as we keep it discreet and off this boards we'll be fine :)
(P.S: Mirage if you're reading this (Riiiiiiiiight... :) ) dont sue me KTHXBYE, if i had any money i wouldn't be downloading your stuff, duh :sweatdro: and if i had it i would've probably spent it in the great products you've put out as i can't see many other things that deserve spending my money on other than tmnt.
Of course, that companies like yours DONT RELEASE THE MOVIE DVDS AMONGST MANY (Emphasis on many. :p ) OTHER THINGS IN MY COUNTRY DOESN'T HELP EITHER! ;) )
wait... the channel's back??? :o :o :o :thyper: I'm so happy!!! I don't know how this is illegal though.
Yes it is =D it never quite has been gone actually :anime:
It is illegal as it infringes in copyright laws but i think companies that own the tmnt rights have been turning a blind eye on stuff like this as i bet it doesnt affect them too much (And that is something i truly respect, it shows they dont lose their time by bugging their fans...like *coff*MPAA*coff*.)
I'll try to cease distribution of the episodes when they are released on dvd, it seems right after the companies have let us keep the channel going on for so long...i can't however scan every single fserver thought so i could only put a warning somewhere in the channel topic and trust servers will accept, if they don't then they might get in trouble and rightfully so (chances are they'll get the WHOLE channel in trouble though :sweatdro: but in that case *i* might deserve it for not being able to monitor my channel well enough...sigh, i dunno, when the moment comes i'll see what i can do :) )

I don't know about anyone else, but I'll surely buy a DVD if its released and to heck with any other format.
You BET i will, problem is companies haven't really paid attention to my country as for tmnt dvds goes, none of the movies have been released in argentina as far as i know and that bugs me because the only other place i can turn to is piracy (or importing, but i'm sorry, i don't have that much money, let alone i dunno how to buy from the net and seems kinda risky to me.)
But i'm almost sure they will bring the new tmnt show to fox kids latinamerica, if they happen to release merchandising or such because of this, you bet i'll be supporting them!

Karpo_007
02-13-2003, 10:14 AM
They are probably not coming to here either, So I will need to buy them international. If they ever get released that is.

:embarass: Yeah, sorry for 'toying' with you, it was never my intention, it's just that when mpaa came to irc-chat i had to make a descision, either move the channel, or let it die, and since we moved so many times already and thought people would get sick of it if i did it again, i just thought i'd close it.
Later i figured out the mpaa has very little to nothing to do with the tmnt tv show, as they mainly care about movies and stuff that is released on dvd already, but it was a little too late as i've already posted that :embarass: sorry mr.poop.
I've posted again to help clear confusion, i might aswell delete the post with the 'we're moving' news like karpo suggested, that could cause confusion aswell..
So yeah, we're not closing down...Again, sorry :embarass:

Edit: 'k, instead of deleting the 'we're closing' news post, i edited it, it now says "mi perro huele a basurero" :D which means...um...go translate it yourself :)

ILLEGAL? NASCAR (which preempted today's episode),a sport which kills people and promotes Big tobacco and alcohol should be ILLEGAL.

No, in my eyes not only is it not illegal...it should be encouraged. Its not right just because someone doesnt live in the United States of Ameriduh
that they should miss out. That to me is the real travesty. I get great Fox reception, and still missed out. So yes, it is the right thing to do to share these episodes...now if I could find out how to get it downloaded(heck, if anyone has an ftp or underground site where it can be downloaded PM me!)

Allright, you really need to calm down about NASCAR. I've seen you complain about it in several threads and I'd really like it if you would just stick to one soapbox thread in GD and get it out of your system. No need for people to see you complain in the majority of your recent posts.
If you would have checked your listings, you would have seen it on at 8:30AM EST. How can you live in North Carolina when the sport you hate so much is HQ'd there? Also, In case you have forgotten, the NC economy was based on tobacco for many years and helped create the great state it is today.
I make "copies" of the episodes so people like yourself can see it if they missed it. Only thing is, we cannot openly discuss how to get "copies".
PM Karpo or myself and we can talk about it.

Oh gosh, I think I'd jump in front of a train if I lived there, heh. No Im from California. Yeah, sorry about the Nascar thing...*drops subject of evil preemption* Anyways, I gotcha...its a thing of wink wink nudge nudge.
I dont see why we need to walk on eggshells. Everyone here is vehmently against pirating/bootlegging for profit/ebay. I think its everyone's right to see it for free...I mean its not like it was HBO which I dont have...I even speicially made sure the antenna go tin Fox the night before.

Sadly, there was no mention of a Nascar when I was watching the Fox Box, it just came out of nowhere. They even said 'coming up next!' just a few seconds before it was to air. Anyways, its no biggie. I was just really excited to see it.

This thread was going fine without any bashing until you got another warning from Krang after I locked a thread on you.
I support #tmnt-files with my stuff.
I've never heard of g00z anyway, so why would I want to download his episodes?? You're going to tell me to go to #80scartoons, but no one wants to use that channel.

g00z has higher resolution, but Darth's is the only DIVX version with full framerate. That's why Darth's are better compared, even if the picture is not as sharp.

Would you want a higher resolution? It could be done.
I'm using the res they are now to keep the file size down.

Karpo_007
02-19-2003, 04:29 PM
If you could still maintain the 30 FPS, then of course. And you could use higher compression, so the files wouldn't become huge. I have seen DVD rips at the bitrate of 800, so If you use higer resolution, you could decrease bitrate pretty much. Well If you have time, test it!

DarthRaphael

They are still only 24 fps while darth's are 30. I want my episodes with full framerate.

Well, if you tell me XXX person does the best encodes, give me some more info than that. Tell me why it's better in your opinion. Maybe I can learn from them.

Anyway, how many peeps from this board visit 80scartoons? Are we split between #tmnt-files and 80scartoons?? I want to see one of these other encodes, but I don't feel like waiting in an fserv queue for it.

Well you will get a sample of g00z from me. Like I said, the higher resolution makes the picture look better, but the FPS is onl 24. In a fast action shows like TMNT, I Want full FPS.

anywho I'm sorry it sounded bad, but everyone was saying DARTH HAS THE BEST ENCODES, when it wasn't 100% true. #80s-cartoons is probably the biggest and best place to get cartoons, with a whopping 200+ people, and like 40 fservers. I got g00z's encode real fast since I serve, I suggest everyone check it out if they need anything, right now i'm trying to get heathcliff episodes.

Raphael
02-24-2003, 03:43 PM
DarthRaphael, I have your encodes of the first two episodes and they look great. How much would a filesize difference be for 640x480 though, roughly double?

Karpo_007
02-24-2003, 04:55 PM
They look good, but since some people want higher resolution, now we have encoder for that in our channel too. Don't worry, people were still asking for your encode, and it's shared in the channel too. But last saturday you were late, and he covered for you. It doesn't hurt to have many diffrent versions.

DarthRaphael
02-24-2003, 08:38 PM
Cool.
The filesize is 160MB for a 320x240 encode becasue I like to watch the eps in 640x480, sometimes full screen, and it looks OK to me. The 640x480 is the best to watch it at. I could make the file smaller, keep the 320x240 quality, but you could not resize it at all. Does anyone resize my encodes??

Anyway, I can't encode at 640x480 yet becasue Virtual Dub does not work well with WDM drivers, and my card uses WDM drivers. I will be upgrading my PC soon and using PowerVCR to do episode encoding. I am not sure if I will continue do DIVX at that point, or use MPEG II.

Anyway, I'm glad that there are people that appreciate the work I do, and I'm glad to be part of the larger encoding comunity. It is nice that there are so many choices for TMNT G2 enjoyment, considering we are all stuck with the Anuerism encodes of TMNT G1.

Oh, and BTW, I apologize to PWDESAI for jumping on him so fast. I guess I was a little defensive about my work. Character flaw maybe. He was just trying to be helpful. Thanks for the input. :tthumbsu:

Are you saving all the episodes in raw quality, for reencoding later? I guess that would take up huge amounts of disk space but it would make it possible to make several different versions of the episodes, as you come up with different encoding techniques and so on. I'd love to see a 640x480 version.

Yes, I have all 3 raw encodes at about 700Mb a piece.
They were encodes at 320x240, and don't look too well re-encoded at 640x480. Once the upgrade is complete, I'll do the raw encodes at 640x480.

Sweet!

I'm also curious to know if you're saving the "on the next Ninja Turtles", showed after the episode, in your raw files. They're always fun to watch when an episode is fresh but I guess they're a waste of space if you already have the episode mentioned in the preview. But releasing two versions is a bit overkill I guess.

By the way, which resolution do the raw ones have?

This is a little old... but the question was posed to me. Neil (from NTN) was looking for taped episodes, and I offered him the encodes I get from you guys at Mirc.

But he said the .avi format does not work well with the prgram he has that converts and burns the video to DVD. I forgot what all the requirements were now, but it had to be at a much larger size than 320x240 (TV sizing?) and saved as a MPEG2 in order for it to work.

Anyone make video encodes like that too...?

Karpo_007
03-25-2003, 04:04 PM
Divx can be converted to MPEG2 quite easily. But there are some people that encode them to MPEG[VCD]. I really can't see the point in making DVD's, since official DVD are sure to come sooner or later.

No problem HT.
What episodes from the new season are considered the best to download?

There are the ones labeled darthraphael, nevermorex and ballistic_punk.

Which are considered the best?
Well it depends, if you are planing on watching your episodes on a tv out, get the darthraphael encodes, it has 30 frames per seconds, which makes it look good on tv because it'd match the refresh rate of it or something.
Now if you are planning on watching it on your pc, i'd recommend you to get a higher quality encode, the darthraphael one has repeated frames that make it bigger in filesize while you could get another encode which will give you better quality for the filesize but wont play on a tv out as smoothly as darthraph's.
It's your choice and it all depends on what you are going to use them for.

Nickokapo
04-04-2003, 06:11 PM
You are welcome...and no, even though you *can* do that, it's not what i meant, what i mean is..well, there's this card for pc that have tv-out, they let you watch your pc in your tv instead of your monitor, now that that's cleared up lets go on with the files :P
There's different files with different framerates, darthraphael's has 30 frames per second, while other encodes might have lower framerate, they will look better for their filesize since they dont have repeated frames that take up space, but they wont look all that well in a tv-out (because of the tv's refresh rate being different than your monitor's or whatever).
So my point was if you are going to use a tv-out card to watch it then get the darthraph encode, if not then go for a higher quality one.

I don't think pwdesai will appreciate that you're hotlinking the frickin stuff :p it's his bandwith y'know, at least post a link to his main page instead of the file itself, tho that link wont be here for much time i think...
Furthermore:
This might sound hypocrital coming from me since im helping people to get in irc and download files :P but i try not to name the server...even tho karpo already did :p sigh

That's ok, just try to keep it off these boards..
SO TAHT TEH FEDZ WON'T CLOSES IT OLO!1!!!!!!111111111
Actually i doubt discussing this would get the site in trouble, it would be illegal if the technodrome actually hosted the episodes...but it's krang's site, he can do whatever he wants, if this is his decision i respect it ;)
Not to mention i agree that it's not worth putting such a great board at risk for some toon i don't even like that much.
Well, check your PMs :ohwell:
