Hey,
I was wondering if any one has and would be willing to part with a copy of the Random House audio cassettes released to go with the first few issues of the series. I had them as a kid and am trying to track them down.

I'm 99% sure I've got the first audio cassette. I'll sell it for whatever you offer + shipping.

I wonder if there is a way to get an MP3 out of a Cassette. I remember I once made a mix cassette with the "intergalactic Wrestling and other Stories" Cassette and I changed a few things around. I replaced the commercial for TMNT coloring books with Spatula City from UHF.

There's Mp3's available of the audio cassetts. They were made a couple months ago and I even made a thread about em. :P

Exactly...where? Cause that's all I was gonna do, convert the tapes to MP3 and then re-post them to the internet somewhere.
Those willing to sell...name your price?

If anybody wishes to get the Mp3's just PM me your email addys and I'll send em your way. They don't seem to be available anywhere online so I was extremely lucky to find the ones that I have (the audios of the mini series and the first 2 eps of the regular Archie).

Wow, Krang's voice is a whole lot creepier.

Jester
12-03-2007, 03:21 PM
Yeah, Krang's voice I like. (I think his voice is why I wanted the audio.)
Shredder's is ok.
Splinter is a glaring Asian stereotype.
The Turtles, Bebop and Rocksteady are almost too similar and at times too lifeless.
April's pretty good, if a little dull.

hehe, i remember when i got the first cassete as a kid, i was listening to it in the car, and my mother kept bursting out laughing every time Splinter spoke, cuz his voice was so funny, lol.

Krang's voice was certainly awesome, tho.

Someone needs to make an mp3 of the wrestling one, tho. It's the only one i've never heard, as i was too stupid to buy it in stores, since i already had (and still have) the comic issues it was narrating T_T

What!

You mean they didn't use the same voices as the old toon?

nope. this was an uncredited cast. but that's what made these so interesting. when you change the voices and change the music (these had some unique musical pieces), it creates a quite unique, alternate experience. Like it's been pointed out, Krang's voice was awesome. Unlike in the toon, here it was deep and throaty, and all-together more threatening and scary.

Was there any storyteller voice too.

yup, a narrator describes all the physical actions going on in each panel, so like, if you don't have the comics, you can listen to them like an audio play and still know what's going on. That's what i loved so much about them; as a kid i used to listen to them while going to bed. And now i can do that again thanks to Raph's Girl ^^

Hmmm... I forgot what everyone sounded like, except Shredder sounded close to the OT, Krang had a deep slow-speaking throaty voice, and Raph sounded like his nose was stuffed up. Splinter sounded whack. I mean, I still remember his lame little 'ahahahahahaha!!' after he said he named the turtles after his favorite renaciance (sp?) painters.

Yeah, I got to listen to this earlier, and thanks to traf, I now have the whole set.

I really got a kick out of that shameless self-promotion by Random House around the 40 minute mark in the Inter-galatic Wrestling tape.

It seems that they can't even get there own pronunciation right, because I distinctly remember Splinter pronouncing it Yoshi, lol bad continuity. I actually have the third one, Follow My Leader, which I plan to rip sometime in the future.

All in all, I kind of like the Random House ones better because they turtle voices are SLIGHTLY more distinct, though I like how the intro music is similar to the cartoon.

Burne Thompson sounds a bit like like Fred Flintstone. At times I almost expected him to say "Yabba Dabba Doo"

Still I thank all the people for uploading these. I had no idea they were to be read along with the Archie comics. I had the Book and tape based on "Return of the Shredder" but it came with a soft cover bound version of the comic that was also taller than the size of a regular comic book and it had puzzle pages in the book.

Did anyone else have this version of the book?

In cartoons most boys are voiced by women.

Anyone know if there's a reason they didn't simply rip the audio from the individual episodes and add the narrator? Surely it would have been cheaper than hiring a full cast of voice actors.

Of course they would have to pay Mirage/Fred Wolf/Surge Licensing all that money to use those audio/voice tracks, so apparently hiring a third-party voice cast/sound effects would be better for the budget, and most kids wouldn't get to upset over the difference. The voice actors used are probaly the bottom of the barrel anyways that have a lower salary and little or no TV experience. Also, uncredited is cheaper than credited as well.

I assumed since they were paying Mirage/Fred Wolf/Surge Licensing for the Turtles license anyway it wouldn't be too much more for the audio tracks but you may be right.

Not only that but the Archie comics adaptation doesn't copy the cartoon word for word. Certain lines get altered here and there.

For instance in the cartoon version of Shredder & Splintered

KRANG: "Now wretched reptiles, you will face the wrath of Krang!"
MICHAELANGELO: "Wasn't that the name of a movie?"
LEONARDO: "I don't believe I saw it."

In the Archie comics version -

KRANG: "Now wretched reptiles, you will face the wrath of Krang!"
MICHAELANGELO: "Wasn't that the name of a movie?"
LEONARDO: "Oh shut up and run for it!"

Like when April squeezes through the sewer drain:

"Ouch, this is a tight squeeze. You must be putting on weight, O'Neil!"-April

I always liked that line. It makes sense. That's a tiny drain, April should be struggling to fit through, not slipping through with ease like the cartoon.

On some foreign dubs, April makes a slight screaming noise among impact at that drain. Has anyone ever seen someone squeeze down into a sewer drain from a side entrance before in real life, anyways? It's always something I've wondered for years if it is possible. I remember being little and trying it but I was afraid I'd get in trouble and it was too big for me anyways.

Over $50 for this thingy? We'll see if it sells, but I doubt it will, considering I found another copy on eBay for just $9 total. Interesting the age range says "Ages 7-13", when on FHE's tape with the same episode it's 5 and Up! While the dialogue changes are minor from the animated episode, keep in mind Shredder says similar language to what Leo says as posted above. It's silly that something that isn't even animated would have an older suggested age range than an audio version!

I guess they come in various sizes, but those drains are usually very narrow.

Apparently April is really good at sucking it in, because she probably should have gotten stuck given how narrow those drains usually are.

Like I said, in the cartoon, she seems to slip through with ease. With the comic being a still image, and her comment about her weight, it makes it seem like she had a little more trouble.

Well actually, the ones based on a comic had a larger cast of at least 3-4 people I'd say. Sounds like Donatello and Baxter are voiced by the same person at the very least. A small cast could be ok as long as they can do good voice varations (for the turtles it's not as good).

And Why Do You Capitalize Every Letter With A Hatred For Punctuation

Maybe this is in a previous post but...

I have tracked down a:

blue
red
yellow and
green tape

Are there any other US released tapes out there for these stories?

Think it's time to do another update on the Audiobooks since they're not available anymore. It's 5 years now.

I have missed the boat on these for years. If these links do get resurrected I will be sure to pay attention this time.

To be fair they did give Donatello a more nasally voice than the others, you know cause he's the nerd of the group. :trolleye:

Let Me Know What Everybody Thinks. It Took Me A Long Time To Work On Them. On The First Audiobook, Every Time You Hear "Chapter 1-5" I Took That Out Including The Song. Song Is Cheesey As Hell. On The 2nd Audiobook, When You Hear "Return Of The Shredder Part 2" I Took That Out As Well. All I Did On The 3rd One Besides The Background Noise, I Made It A Little Shorter. Took The Gap Out Like I Did In The First Audiobook.
