View Full Version : Old cartoon/Archie mutagen question

OK, we know that the old cartoon/Archie mutagen works differently than the original Mirage/movie/new cartoon mutagen in that it is reactive to things you touch. Example being, if you're a man and the last thing you touched was an ant, then you touch some mutagen, you morph into Ant-Man (or vice versa, if an ant touched a man, then some mutagen).
My question is this: Let's follow the above example and you're the man that touched an ant, then touched some mutagen and became Ant-Man. OK? Now let's say a week after becoming Ant-Man -- while still Ant-Man -- this same individual encounters some more mutagen, and the last thing he came in contact with was... another human. What would happen? Would Ant-Man become totally human again, or what? And what if Ant-Man had last touched... a spider? Would Ant-Man become mostly/all spider-ish, or would he be 1/4 human, 1/4 ant, and 2/4 spider?

I don't think the cartoon origins were meant to be analyzed like this. It's probably why the comic origin of "the ooze mutates things and makes them bigger like 1950's B-movie monsters" origin is better.
Anyway, I'd like to think that the mutation is a one time deal, until the anti-mutagen makes them go back to normal or something.
Remember that episode were bulls keep mutating because of mutagen?
I would think if a person touched mutagen again he would just keep mutating more and more until he was a monster, in that situation ant-man would gain more human features but probably not the way he'd want them like maybe more legs or arms or a second head. Mutagen seemed like something uncontrollable.

Mutagen seemed like something uncontrollable.
Not in the cartoon/Archies. In those, we see example after example of mutagen working in exposures forced and non 100% consistently every time, just about down to a science (Shredder forcing his human henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady into touching a rhino and a warthog, then exposing them to mutagen, Baxter and the fly, Mondo and the gecko, Man-Ray and the manta ray, etc etc -- every time it seems 50/50 split down the middle).
There was retromutagen in the cartoon for the purpose of demutation, though... but let's not cloud the issue with that.

Heck, look at even the later seasons of the OT. The Turtles mutations destabilized. And what the heck did Carter mutate with to cause him to essentially "Hulk out?" I think the "take on the form of what ever animal they had most recently been in contact with" went out the window by then.
But Andy, Baxter's mutation was an accident and not caused by Krang and Shredder's mutagen. Krangs disintegrater unit malfunctioned and cross mutated Baxter's DNA with a fly's.

But what about Mutagen Man basically falling to pieces after exposure or Muckman and Joe Eyeball turning into garbage. And the last thing pre-mutation Slash came into contact with were Bebop and Rocksteady, yet he simply became a mutant turtle, as opposed to a mutant turtle/rhino/warthog creature. There has to be an explanation for that as well.

Yeah, the turtles kept on mutating. Carter was like a wannabee hulk. But wasn't this type of mutation from a different type of ooze? Or was it like the Image comics when the Turtles were devolving? I don't remember.
And as for the Ant-man thing My guess is that he becomes less Anty (?) but not fully human. I can only explain my theory with math...
100% human+ 100% Ant= 50%Ant and 50% Human now we add 100% Human we get 75% human and 25% ant.
I don't think this dude will ever be fully human if he keeps mutatinbg with humans, considering that there will always be that one part ant, plus he'd prolly take on some characteristics of the human he touched. The only way to become fully human again would be by using the retromutagen. Those aremy two cents.
Hmm...About slash I noticed that animals usually just became humanoids. As opposed to humans who turned into **** that they touched. Imagine if there was this dude taking a dump and mutagen fell on him. He'd be Shitman. HA .

Then there was Tatoo (from planet of the turtlesoids), who was a hamster or gerbil who turned into a fat-ass sumo-wrestler.

Um, Tatoo was a sumo wrestler who had his pet chihuahua stolen if I remember correctly. He was human all along (unless I missed something).

Not in the OT... he was a sumo wrestler trying to get back into his cage???? When demutated, he turned back into a hamster.... So um... how Shredder and Krang mutated a hamster into a sumo wrestler is beyond me....

Not really, those mutations were triggered by a ray that Dregg had shot the turtles with. It wasn't mutagen so that's a whole different subject.

That was in the Archie comics universe. Most of the Archie comics stuff blew the Old Toon out of the water anyway, IMO.
One has to remeber, When dealing with Tmnt, It's like DCs' Crisis.

Really? Well I guess it pays to actually watch those episodes, but then again, I thought TMNT was canceled by then...:P

You have Old Toon Season 1 right? It's on that disk. Anyways hopefully they get to Red Sky it had some of the best the series had to offer in my opinion.
