What this means for TMNT? Not much, other than there is now nothing stopping WB from releasing a 4 movie boxset with all 4 TMNT movies in it. Hopefully a slick one.

TIME WARNER CONSOLIDATES FILMED ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESSES
New Line Cinema To Be A Unit Of Warner Bros. Entertainment
NEW YORK, February 28, 2008 – Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX) announced today the consolidation of its filmed entertainment businesses, Warner Bros. Entertainment and New Line Cinema. The combination brings together New Line’s 40-year legacy as the world’s most successful and innovative independent film studio with Warner Bros.’ creative leadership and unparalleled scale and reach in global distribution and marketing.

As part of the consolidation, New Line will be operated as a unit of Warner Bros. New Line will maintain separate development, production, marketing, distribution and business affairs operations, but will closely integrate and coordinate those functions with Warner Bros. to maximize film performance and operating efficiencies, achieve significant cost savings, and improve margins.

In making the announcement, Time Warner’s President and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bewkes said: “We are moving quickly to improve our business performance and financial returns. New Line has built a strong franchise of cutting-edge entertainment. We can enhance its value by combining it with Warner Bros.

Given the trend toward fewer movie releases, New Line and Warner Bros. will now have more complementary release slates, with New Line focusing on genres that have been its strength. With the growing importance of international revenues, it makes sense for New Line to retain its international film rights and to exploit them through Warner Bros.’ global distribution infrastructure. We can also take better advantage of digital distribution platforms by combining our studios. These changes will enhance our revenue opportunities and drive dramatic cost efficiencies and higher margins at New Line.”

New Line’s Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne have elected to leave the studio, but are in discussions about possible future business relationships with the company.

Mr. Bewkes said: “Bob and Michael have a unique partnership that is noteworthy not only for its stability and longevity, but for its record of innovation and success. They have guided New Line’s growth from a privately held art film distributor to the world’s leading independent film studio that is home to some of the most popular films in entertainment history, including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Mask, Austin Powers, Blade, Rush Hour, Elf, Wedding Crashers and Hairspray. We thank Bob and Michael for their enduring contributions to Time Warner and look forward to a continuing working relationship with them.”

Mr. Shaye and Mr. Lynne said: “New Line has been our respective life’s work as well as our second family. While we’re sad to be leaving, we’re enormously proud to have overseen its extraordinary growth and worked with so many dedicated and talented colleagues. New Line represents innovation, creativity, and independent success. We hope that the company can continue to be a leader in creating entertainment that resonates around the world. We will now focus our efforts on exploring new entrepreneurial opportunities.”

I still think this won't bring us a better release of the first TMNT movie on DVD.

I'd re-purchase all four movies even if they were just all repackaged in one slim case (although I'd rather them also come with extras).

I highly doubt well get anything more then just a repacked dvd, dosent cost them anything and they know they can still make a profit off of it.

I pretty much just gave up on thinking we would ever get a special edition dvd of the first movie.

They'd only release a "special edition" one if a sequal is made and released to theaters. So everythings an "only if" at this point.

But I swear... I thought that New Line WAS owned by WB anyway. I didn't know the extent though.

Maybe people just need to keep begging for a special edition to come out. There are some cases where fans went out of their way to indicate that there was a demand, and it resulted in DVD releases.

Something tells me they refuse to listen to anyone who doesn't want something where someone cuts themselves in half, graphically, or some claptrap where Will Ferrel isn't wearing disgustingly tight shorts. Ewwww.

Hey, wasn't there a report that they WERE going to rerelease them, and get them ready for bluray or something like that? And then nothing came out of it? I have to look for that thread sometime.

Wishful thinking..... but a TMNT Anthology Set is such a nice, and warm thought.

I mean, if Batman and Robin can get a SE .... certainly TMNT II can. But it wont happen. Sadly enough. :(

TMNT II looks like the Godfather when compared to Batman and Robin.

Well, I'm sure at least one day we'll get a Blu Ray release, and if that ever happens and I'm sure eventually it will, at least we'll know the films will get better transfers.

But I still think it's odd that the first film hasn't gotten a special edition release. Let's take a look at some of the films (that may not be considered huge films) THAT have special edition dvds:

Monster Squad
Supergirl
Return of the Living Dead
Superman 3 and 4
Several of the old Toho Godzilla/Gojira films
Home Alone
the Friday the 13th films (via collection)
1941

Heck, even the slim Masters of the Universe dvd has a commentary from it's director. You would think that if any of those films warrant special edition dips, then the first TMNT film would.

The problem is, I don't think we are being vocal enough. If there is enough demand, they'll give in, especially if they think they can make a dime out of it.
Forget internet petitions, too easily ignored, and e-mails probably are, as well. If you have to, type out a letter and send it to them.
