View Full Version : Why Did They Make Three Turtle Suits for Each Movie?

I have ALWAYS wondered that! The first were by far the best looking of all the suits! When I was a kid I noticed the change in SotO and thought "Neat, they look and act more like the cartoon!", then in the third film I kept noticing how weird they looked with those big, angled beaks.

Anyway, does anyone have a guess as to why New Line/ Golden Harvest went through the trouble of burning funds to design more costumes when the originals were perfectly fine and embodied the characters the best?

Because the costumes fall apart like *that*.

Huh, I really don't know what to think about that. On the one hand, it's cool because, y'know, it's turtles. On the other hand, it doesn't look very appealing to eat. On the other, other hand I'm amazed that they've sold them for what I can only guess has been nearly two decades. On the other, other, other hand bubblegum eyes frighten me...

Ditto. That's one seriously messed up costume.

Yeah, I remember those ice creams too. They were really good from what I remember, kinda want one now that I'm thinking about it (haven't had breakfast yet).

I don't know if I've ever had a turtle one, but I think I've had a Mickey Mouse one before.

Also, that's why I figured the same suits weren't re-used, too. The first ones probably weren't in any condition to be used for the sequels.

Didn't the props for each individual movie include several suits, heads, and whatnot?
Maybe the fact they had different actors in each movie playing the turtles had something to do with it.

Yes they are very delicous. My neighborhood ice-cream truck has had those for years, also in Tweety and Sonic the Hedgehog form.

What makes them so delicious is that its some type of diffrent ice-cream not found in stores and it has a diffrent texture...OH MAN! I wish they would sell that type of ice-cream in stores.

I suppose resculpting the costumes to look the same as movie one was too difficult. Otherwise the change makes almost no sense. I'm just talking about the head sculpts now because the bodies improved from movie one to movie two but I prefer the heads from movie one.

You also have to think about this, Jim Henson worked on the first movie, the second movie he was dead and his son Brian Henson was working on it, first movie had the master, second movie had the Protégé.

I always wondered why they had so many damn freckles in the third movie. Maybe they were supposed to be turtle zits and they had hit teenage mutant ninja turtle puberty?

Because the people who made the third movie couldn't compair to Hensons work?

Freckels weren't half the problem. Those suits were just plain bad.

OK here's the deal...

First movie = jim henson (the man and the company) and heavy suits which weighed the most

Second movie = Different suits that were made with different material to lower the overall weight. This was a pefecting of the first movie designs from a technical standpoint. Much easier on the actors in the suits.

Third movie = different costume company due to higher cost associated with jim henson studios.

End of story.

Off topic, the turtle ice cream. I actually had some in D.C. last summer, so there are still out there. And still good IMO. Green sherbet. Not your standard, but still good.
