I can think of four scenarios that will get me to NYCC:
1) I win the lottery within the next month (in order for this to work, though, I would actually have to buy a ticket...).
2) Tokka kidnaps me with his mum's helicopter (assuming he's willing to take the detour).
3) Teleportation is invented within the next month.
4) I live to see time travel invented and travel back to NYCC '08 as an old lady.
So if you run into a really odd old lady fangirl (er.. fanlady?), know that time travel is just around the corner!
Alas...

I started a thread couple of weeks ago concerning the same thing. Me and my brother plan on going. We have the money for admission, but I don't know how the heck we're gonna get there. I live about 45 minutes from the city, so it won't take too long. I haven't told my parents yet, but I will soon. Keeping my fingers crossed!:ohwell:

I'll be there...though I guess that's a given since Murphy mentioned it on his blog, and it's on the Mirage website. I'll be at the Mirage booth now and a again, but also out and about.
BTW, I have a book being announced by one of the "big two" tomorrow...check for the solicits. (Sorry for the non-TMNT news...) ;-)

I bought a plane ticket, a convention ticket, and a hotel room for Friday night. I'm in Chicago, it'll be my first time in New York. It'd be cool to meet some of you guys/gals. Hopefully I get a NECA set, I'm sort of worried with the limited # of them being produced. Can't wait to meet Peter Laird, I met Eastman already but didn't talk to him really so hopefully I get the nerve to say something this time.
I think I'm gonna eat at Ninja Pizza. Then I'm going to see if the Statue of Liberty has anything under that toga.

Too close of a call for me.
We are very short staffed at work. I cannot attend my sorority's convention in July either. I MAY be able to attend a convention for one of my Fandoms in June, but that is only because it is strictly a weekend trip and I may have to miss only one day of programming at the very most. I cannot take whole weekends off for anime conventions like I used to in years past either.

They will definitely pop up on ebay after the convention is over, but may go for a higher price :) Not sure on how they'll limit how many you buy. I guess you can't buy no more than one exclusive 4 pack set. It might go the same way for the standard four pack as well.

The answers to several of the questions (as I understand them...)
1) The NECA sets should be available all weekend, though, Friday is just for industry pros, so I'm not sure they'll be for sale that day (but I imagine they will be...)
2) Check www.ninjaturtles.com for the list of the TMNT folk that will be there with Mirage. Tristan Huw Jones is also going to be there. He and I will be at the Mirage tables sporadically...I will be at another panel for one of the big, though not on the panel. If I'm not at Mirage, you can try loking for me hanging around Marvel or DC, but I don't have specific times. Best if you want to meet me (not that there's *that* many people who would, I know) by checking back at Mirage throughout the weekend.
3) I don't know this, but if NECA is trying to control that only one person buys a box set, they will probably stamp or hole-punch your convention badge. I've lots of other companies do that.
Does that help answer any of the questions?

I bought my plane ticket and my con ticket, so I'm locked into going. That weekend is going to be a little hardcore for me...but this is my official schedule (I hope):
*Leave Los Angeles Friday the 18th at 4:25pm
(Lay-Over in SLC, UT)
*Arrive at JFK Saturday the 19th at 5:45am
*Scout out a Tattoo Shop while I wait for the Con to open.
*Hit up the NECA booth ASAP to try to get the con exclusive.
*Go to the Mirage booth and have Peter sign my arm.
*Go to the tat shop and have it inked in.
*Go back to the con to get Peter to sign the con exclusive at the NECA booth.
*Leave JFK for Los Angeles Saturday the 19th 6:15pm
For those of you who are new to the drome and have no idea what I'm talking about when I say "sign my arm". I have been working on a tattoo project for quite some time now. I have the four turtles running down my right arm, and 2 years ago Kevin signed my arm at the San Diego Con (which I promptly have inked into my arm). I have been waiting a long time to finish this tattoo, and Peter's signature will mark the end of it. So Wish Me Luck on completing this crazy quest of mine.

I'm sure they charge per signature, so you would have to pay 15-20 times. Sounds costly to me but if you can afford it, by all means.

You have to pay to get a comic signed?!? Thats means I won't be bringing in any comics. But I hope it's not true for the Mirage booth.
:!:MORE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS:!::
- If you really do have to pay for it signed, how much?
- What about sketches?
- What about pictures with an artist?
- Will you have to pay to get the NECA four pack signed by PL as well?
- Any know still about the Image artists?
- If I buy my tickets a couple of days before the con starts, do you think they'll be sold out by then?
Roseangelo
03-21-2008, 07:56 PM
Not speaking specifically for anyone, but just from general con experiences:
Artists/creators generally don't charge to sign something you bring. But if you bring a lot of things, have the courtesy to buy SOMETHING off of them. Some artists will do small sketches for free, some will take commissions, some will have pre-drawn stuff for sale. Or all of the above.
Higher-profile people are more likely to charge money.
Kevin Eastman does everything for free.
NECA is not likely to charge you to get Peter's sig on the box set. Peter will be at their booth to help drive sales of the box set. All they want is your $50. (At least, I hope this is the case.)
Edit: That's one hell of an itinerary, Archon! I hope you can pull all of that off!

The Turtles Hit New York Comic Con
NECA Reveals Details on NYCC Exclusive
03/21/2008
Last week we revealed the much anticipated New York Comic Con Exclusive Edition Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Box Set. Today we reveal how you can get your own set, limited to 500 pieces. The sets go on sale the morning of Saturday, April 19 at NECA’s Comic Con booth. Sets are priced at $50, payable in cash only, and limited to one per customer. At the time of purchase, the guest will receive a color-coded ticket or voucher, assigning a specific time to return to the NECA booth to have your set signed by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Peter Laird. Mr. Laird will only be at the booth from 1 - 3 PM, and will only be signing the exclusive set. Complying with the color-coded schedule will ensure that all 500 sets can be signed by Peter Laird. Good luck and we hope to see you all at this year's New York Comic Con! Make sure to check back at NECAonline for the latest Comic Con updates and more!

Peter will *still* be at the Mirage booth throughout the weekend. So, you might still be able to get comics signed.
I will sign anything for free (and I agree with Rose, most comics creators are like that)...I'll sign TMNT, Smallville, or my other stuff. :-)
Archon, if you were in Salt Lake about 30 hours earlier, you'd be able to catch me before I leave home for the show!

Alright its making more sense to me know. But what is the point of the badge for? Is it to walk in and out of the con center? Or just to permit you inside the place? Is it for screenings? Is it mandatory?

I think it means that as the ticket is shipped out via the good ol' U.S. of A. Post Office, the DHL upgrade means what someone else said-- that they can express it to you (and prolly for a fee).
It has, as far as I can see from the site, nothing to do with anything special.
And besides if you buy a pass, you can go in and out all you want for that day/time period.
I hope you have a good time! I envy you all.

being that we're three days away....Who's definitely going now?
i'm just curious to see exactly how many from this board will be there
I'm definitely going as well (With my brother. So that makes four all together inluding you, my bro, and kreuger). Why couldn't the pope come some other time to nyc? Traffic is gonna be big on Saturday, but I'll be there on time. Anybody else showing up?

I will be there on saturday for a few hours. If you happen to be sly enough to catch me, say hi! I'll be the one with the ninja turtle tattoos :-P.

Why only a few hours? Aren't you just coming for one day? I'll be there from start to end b/c I want my money to be worth every penny I spent (mostly b/c I've got too much time on my hands :D). I'm guessing you're going to spend the rest of the day finding a tattoo shop for your tmnt sig or that your flight back to Cali is on the same day, right?

I've got a shop in mind, and they will be on stand by for me since I'm not sure when I will be able to get Peter to sign (the tat will only take like 10 minutes anyway). Don't be suprised if you find me sleeping somewhere at the con, as my schedule is gonna be crazy.
I arrive at 5:30 am on saturday and leave at 6:00pm that night...so yeah...a few hours. It's gonna be nucking futz!

I posted this in the NECA toy thread but I figured it would be relevant here too.
Good news to those of you that can't make Comic-Con. The exclusive is already on ebay and he has more than one. Of course, it is more than $50. I wasn't expecting to see this until Saturday night! Pretty scary. I believe some of you guys may have ordered the Neca figures from this guy, as well.

This is off topic, but for anyone who is going, my soon-to-be former parter and soon-to-be sole owner of toysandtoons.com Peter (Lerose) will be walking around the event on friday. He should have free cards from my "Redneck Space Track" series with him. If anyone sees a dude with a "toysandtoons" shirt (you can also go to toysandtoons.com's about us section to see what Peter looks like)...ask him for a card. Obviously no one knows what this cartoon is yet, but its currently in production-14 episodes should be finished by the end of 2008. We're recording voices starting May 1st and have an established name star signed on for a major role.
http://www.toysandtoons.com/catalog/promo_fx.jpg
here is the image of the card. He should have a stack with him.
I wish I could make it up to this show. I have a set of those Dark Horse Miniatures: "Turtles with energy weapons" that I had signed by Kevin several years ago at an event in NYC. I'd love to get a signature from Peter (Laird) on the item as well...
If anyone is there getting a signature on the new four pack, please suggest to Peter and the Mirage crew that they try to make it down to Orlando for another FX show event. They used to hit that show a few years back, but haven't been there for the years I've been living in Orlando.

I was at the Con today and it was amazing. I can't stress enough to be there super early if you want one of these NECA exclusives. I'm afraid they will not last long tomorrow. They were be hounded for them today and NECA kept saying "Tomorrow at 10AM." There was usually a nice sized crowd looking at the figures behind the glass which included the black and white variants. TMNT is super hot again!

I live in New Jersey, and I'll be coming tomorrow! I'm so excited, considering I was in NY earlier today to see my first opera at the Metropolitan Opera, and now the Con! My two loves, music and cartoons, in 2 days!
I'm gonna try my best to get the exclusive figures, but from what I'm hearing, they won't be there by the time I arrive. :(
I'm going to wear my fraternity letters to the Con, so I won't be hard to miss, if any of you cats wanna hang out for a bit. :) I should sleep now, considering I'm taking a train from my town to Manhattan in 6 hours. :)

Yeah its a late post, but I've been having some uploading problems. Other than that, I had a great time at New York Comic Con and I look forward to going again! The coolest thing was, TMNT was the biggest event there. I never had the chance to greet or get something signed by Eric Talbot or Steve Lavigne, but maybe next year. Luckily, I ran into three drome users, Archon_Turtle, Michele Ivey, and Jake Black. Here are some pics from the con below.
Peter Laird signing my NECA exclusive boxset and sketching a turtle for me in issue #29:

Well considering these things came out four years ago, is $200 a reasonable price? The original price was $125. I think that the price on hard to find things increase every year by substantial amount. I'm not sure if I'm right though.
Hey Archon, did you get Laird to sign your arm? And how do you go about getting the nycc boxset AFA graded (process-wise)? I might consider that too.

Go here: http://www.toygrader.com/
there is an online tool for filling out the form. Then you ship the figures to them and they ship them back all pretty. The con box set fits into the 20-29 inch custom catagory, and I chose to go with the UV protected archive grade acrylic case, so the total was 125 + shipping it to them. Well worth it in my opinion, because like I said, I dont want anything to happen to this thing.

Please tell me that's a $1.25. I not, I don't think this could be done. I'm very low on cash now. Any other toy grading companies you know about? I also don't feel safe about shipping them over to who-knows-where. I wish there where some other near-by place in NY where I could get it graded.

You could stick them in a cardboard box for free. Seriously though gang, you get what you pay for in everything in life. AFA to my knowledge is the only toy grader that is widely recognized. You COULD just go to their website and buy a custom enclosure without having it graded for much cheaper.
As far as shipping it safely,if youre really worried you can pack them in a box with packing material, then pack THAT box into a large box with packing material. Thats what I did.

I am just looking for a cheap clear display case so that dust doe snot ruin the box. Spending $50 for the thing in the first place is pretty expensive if you think about it...but paying close to triple for a case for it? I'm not a millionaire...
I do agree with you get what you pay for...but sometimes when you shop around alot you get better deals...so your hard work and effort pays off.
What are the dimensions of the set (if you can remember)? I do not have the box in front of me right now?

I don't even need the UV protection, I'm not displaying it near any windows. It is a shame I'll never actually get to rip open the box and play with these bad boys. I don't want the 4 boys to feel like Pistol Pete...
