View Full Version : Irma: cute or no?
Toonami Tom
03-27-2008, 06:50 PM
In the original toon, April was always seen as the 'hot' female character on TMNT. Now, there was also Irma, but due to her personality traits and frumpy clothes she was never seen in the same way as April.
Do you think if Irma wore different clothes that she would be considered 'attractive'? If she got a different pair of glasses? She really isn't ugly.

I don't know that I ever saw April as "hot"..maybe it's because she wore yellow, my least favorite color. I don't think Irma was attractive, though. She was too "whiny" and annoyingly boy crazy.
Irma: cute or no?
Absolutely! ^_^ She's sweet in a shallow sort of way and had horrible fashion sense, but she was neither unatractive nor unworthy of respect. So, I'd take a friend like her, but that's likely all we'd ever be.

At least she didn't look like Archie Irma

I thought she was kind of annoying but ultimately good for the OT. If she had been a character in the current series I doubt anyone would harbor any positive feelings for her but she seemed to be a desent fit for the 87 series.
I suppose she was cute

i would concider irma neither particulary cute or ugly! in my eyes shes pretty average looking, but no matter how attractive or unattractive she would be i still find her annoying and me least favorite tmnt character!

She didnt exactly take the hair and glasses down long enough to register as a knock-out.
Her character was ten times more interesting than April's career-aholic personality. She didnt really care WHO she slept with, that included humans, aliens, Turtles, all kinds...
Not a 'shipper by heart, but I loved the little scenes she had with Donatello, probably the only Turtle that fit her.

Haha, I look just like her. Glasses and all, though my hair style is currently 'short' right now.
I always thought she'd be really cute if she changed her clothes. Isn't there an episode where she wears another dress? I can't remember

Irma is not ugly or unattractive.
However, she is way too boy-crazy. I know they did it on purpose to contrast her with April the career woman. But Irma needs to find herself some hobbies and interests. That way she'll be more appealing to men.

I think she wore a bikini in "leatherhead: terror of the swamp"? Maybe not, memory is sketchy...
O_O *runs off to watch the DVD*
j/k... Just had to make the joke.
For Irma's different attire--
I recall what Pliggin's says (at least for her wearing a swimsuit at some point, may have been that ep. not sure).
As for the dress cowabungalives wonders of, again not sure of the episode, but the 'Drome's Image Gallery has such a picture (in the Misc. area).
Then also have the superhero outfit from "Super Irma".
Beyond those, don't recall any other different ones from her usual clothes.
Does her chipette costume count?

Indeed she is. I could go on at lenght about what I think is wrong with her, but this is a PG rated forum. Needless to say, she has low standards, clearly gets in the sack, then regrets it the next day. Check out her reaction to Alfredo in "Attack of the Killer Pizzas." And let's not forget the episode where a bunch of sailors on their furlough start hooting and hollering at her.
At this point, I just want April to turn to her and say, "Uh... Irma? Maybe you'd actually have a relationship if you didn't want to nail the first thing that came along."
Adding to that her Robosexuality and beastial relationship with Donatello, she's freakin' effed up.

I guess putting aside how odd it is to talk about how cute or not cute cartoon characters are: not really. Maybe she just seems too annoying.
While we're on the subject though, as far as April goes, I thought the Archie April design was better than the cartoon April design in some ways. Like how she finally got an outfit other than that yellow jumpsuit.

I think the Archie version of April was superior in everyway. She wasn't as one dimentional as the cartoon version.
Seriously, did Irma appear in any issue outside of the "we didn't get the character model or style guide so we'll just make something up" Velma from Scooby Doo appearance in Return of the Shredder?

Nope, they didn't use many cartoon-based characters after the adaptations.

The outfit reason was enough for me. Yellow jumpsuit = puke. But, she was just a less shallow character in general, and therefore more admirable. If you think about it, shallow characterizations were the cornerstone of the classic 'toon.

ok, you need to expand on this one? I think what made April so shallow in the old toon was her one tract mind and determination no matter the cost to get a story.

However, their personalities are VERY different. And I prefer Jeanette's.
For some reason, I think Jeanette came first. So why would they clone her looks as those of a human? Especially one who thinks and acts so different.

Actually, I forgot how terribly annoying Irma was in the earlier episodes. When I'm remembering episodes that didn't piss me off terribly, it's always the pilot mini-series (before Irma showed up) or the CBS episodes. So, yes, she was initially so annoying that I never would have liked her if that was all I could remember. But, in the CBS episodes, she was consistently the not-too-smart smart-ass who just wouldn't pass up a chance to meet men. She was a whiny bimbo before that.
Haha, I look just like her. Glasses and all, though my hair style is currently 'short' right now.

You are correct. The chipettes first appeared in 1983. They were only meant to be female counterparts to Alvin & his crew though. So, when they were thinking up Irma, I have a feeling they were thinking Velma from Scooby-Doo when the word, 'geeky', was said, but wanted to avoid making her the chubby girl everyone makes fun of (as that would be just plain mean and reason enough for me to lose all interest). So, instead, they made her the awkward pretty girl... meaning she'd be more obviously pretty if she'd lose the glasses and ponyta-- I mean, pompom on top of her head... And, she'd probably have to stop dressing like she's homeless too.

That's because the CBS episodes are just better and more interesting than when the show was on weekday afternoons on fox kids.
But yeah I was thinking about how much each character changed from the weekday episodes to the cbs ones I even laugh at some of the things Burne Thompson says in the cbs episodes.

Yeah, April's so obsessed with getting the story to get her mind off the fact that even Irma can get laid when she can't. April's boss takes advantage of this to make sure Channel 6 gets the story before all the other stations by sending April to foolishly risk her life every third day. That's why despite the fact that she's 'Channel 6's Top Reporter' she's always constantly in risk of getting fired.

In all fairness, we don't know a lot about Irma's past times, excluding her fascination with men :) For all we know, she likes sci-fi and I can totally see her getting into fantasy since she lives in a fantasy world where some dream guy will appear and take her away to live in happy wedded bliss :P
Plus the word nerd can refer to a foolish person who lacks social skills, but that's in the "informal" definition of the word nerd. -> yep, English was my fave class :P

I ment that they are both insecure about landing a man and show some signs of desperation just to get a guy at any cost. Janine with Egon and Irma with...well any man. Although of the two I think Janine went to the furthest lengths, since she actually tried to change her appearance into some one prettier with the help of a demon fairy just to Egon to notice her. As desprete as Irma has gotten she hasn't reached that low yet. :o
