Is this true about Ninjara?

Speaking of Ninjara, after the book was canned, I understand her creators, Dean Clarrain and Chris Allan had done some other stories with her in some book/magazine called "Furrlough"... don't suppose you know anything about that? I've been trying to find some copies of the issues she's been in.

I found this on another board, is it true?

According to here (http://www.radiocomix.com/furrloughindex1.html), Furrlough #52 has "Ninjara, part 3", so I'm guessing she is in #50-52. No pictures though, and she isn't on the covers on Milehighcomics...

This happened before with another character, Osagi Yojimbo, The Samurai Rabbit, He first apeared on a few early episodes on the original TMNT series, Then somehow, Out of nowhere, He got his own comic book series.

No, Usagi had his Own comic book in early 80's. It was even published by mirage for some time.

Ninjara was one of the most popular characters of the Ninja Turtles Archies comic series, She was a girlfriend to Raphael at the time.

Woah, ninjara got her own comic book! :D Even if it had only 3 issues or whatever, i think it's pretty cool.

I have one of the issues of furrloph that has Ninjara in it. I think it was either in the first or second in that three part series.

I haven't seen it since December (when I moved and a unch of my things became absorbed in the vacumn random stuff boxes) But I think I'll take a look tonight to see if I can find it and scan some pictures. I can't remember much about the story arc... But it was drawn very nicely.

I was just at the mall today and they were having a comics and cards show, and this guy I get comics from had almost an entire run of Furrlough! I forgot what numbers Ninjara was supposedly in, so I forgot what to look for, but I can always go back tomorrow and look again. If I find em, I'll definitely get em. And I'll let ya know what I thought, too.

Just got home from the mall. Picked up the three issues of Furrlough with the Ninjara story. For the record, they were issues number 47, 48, and 52. I'm gonna read 'em now and review 'em when I'm done.

I also picked up a couple issues of Genus, but that's just... heh... neither here nor there...

Uhkay... wasn't quite what I expected, but anyway, I'll give a brief review. **Spoilers** are included, to warn those that don't want to know the story.

Furrlough Issue #47 (Fifth Anniversary Special)
NINJARA Part One

We open with a monologue from Ninjara as we see her in disguise, wrapped in rags and pushing a shopping cart. "There was a time when I longed to be alone..." she tells us. "When I wished I was the last person on Earth... and of not having to watch man complete the ruin. Man. Men. I just wanted to be free of men. Their touch. Their decay." (condensed)

"Later there came a time when I could no longer stand to be alone," she goes on. "When I sought out companionship. When I craved union...." Someone inside the cart cries out "mama..." Ninjara replies "Darling..." as she pets the head of a small fox-child inside the cart. Apparently, Ninjara's been mighty busy since we last saw her, since now it appears she has a child. She confirms this for us. "...And now, when the child of that union is all that I have, I wish that I had more."

Ninjara senses something in the air, and a bright light cuts through the air. The child is at first entranced by the light, calling it "pretty", then is repulsed by the appearance of several demons. Ninjara's response? "F*CK!" Yeah, this definitely aint an Archie book. The demons demand the soul of the child "to join the soul of its father." Ninjara says "never", and the demons prepare to take hers instead. In the battle, Ninjara's clothes are torn and we get something Ninjara fanboys have waited years for: a full view of Ninjara's left breast. I didn't see that coming, but I'm not entirely surprised either.

"You so much as touch my little girl, and there'll be no place on Earth for you to hide!" she tells them.

"No?" asks one of the demons as he grabs the child, "Then how about in Hell?" The demon and the child disappear in a flash of light as Ninjara cries out in despair, then wakes up screaming. Her daughter asks if she's all right. "Just a nightmare," Ninjara tells her. "Was it a dream about Daddy again?" asks the child.

"No, sweetie, not exactly," Ninjara tells her as she pulls on a ragged coat. "I guess this one was just about being alone." "Like, all alone?" asks the child.

Splash page with the Ninjara logo. "Yes. If you can imagine such a thing..." says Ninjara as she walks with her child into some kind of cityscape with a lot of strange arch designs. "To Be Continued..." along the bottom of the page.

Only seven pages, and it seemed a lot shorter with the splash page and the large action panels. Not bad though. Sets up the story, introduces Ninjara and her daughter (I did NOT expect her to have a kid). And for the fanboys, a brief yet open hooter shot. Pretty good overall.

Furrlough Issue #48
NINJARA Part Two

We open at some sort of temple, as Ninjara tries to argue her way past a ninja acting as a doorman. Someone named Tetsu Kono is apparently looking to hire someone for a job, and Ninjara is prepared to offer her services... for a price. The ninja refuses to bring Ninjara to his master, calling her a thief and saying she has no honor. He follows with "Child. No Husband. Hirogeru Onna." To which Ninjara replies "WHAT did you call me?"

Any help on what the guy said to her? Apparently it was an insult, but I'm lost.

Regardless, Ninjara prepares to fight, reaching for her katana. "If you're trying to push my buttons, you've succeeded," she tells him, adding "Chimpoko No Atama!" Little help? Too much Japanese here for the Irish Polack.

The ninja's master interrupts and tells him to let Ninjara in. "Tetsu Kono. I am honored," she says. "However, you really should teach your help better manners." Tetsu Kono replies that he, too, is honored, and maintains that his servant was acting suitably for his job description. As he speaks, several black ninjas attack Ninjara.

Tetsu Kono speaks of his fondness for horticulture, telling her that he is a collector of rare and exotic flora. "I wish you to steal for me the seed of an orchid," he tells her. "It is the last seed of its kind. In fact, the seed is the only link to its genus. There are no living plants left. Its importance to me is immeasurable."

When he is done talking, Ninjara is standing over the fallen bodies of her ninja attackers. No torn clothes this time, but she looks rather top-heavy in a pretty nice shot that Ninjara fanboys will like a lot. She demands half her pay up front. "I never fail," she tells him. Tetsu Kono tells her the location of the laboratory where the seed is held. The seed is to the orchid known as the "gilgamesai." They briefly discuss the security at the lab, and Ninjara leaves. On her way out, she trades barbs with the ninja doorman. "Later, gejashiku." "Joro." he replies. What does it all mean?!?!

When she's gone, Tetsu Kono approaches the ninja. "Follow her, Ichiro," he whispers. "Discover her weakness... and bring it to me."

Ninjara is at a temple, talking to a monk. She offers to pay the temple to protect her daughter. "It is not necessary for you to pay for our services," he tells her. "You honor us simply by your prescence." Hmm, looks like Ninjara's pretty well-renowned wherever she is exactly. "Of course, we will accept your offering, nonetheless," he says. "We still have to eat."

Ninjara's daughter protests, asking why she can't go with her mother. "Because I'm working," Ninjara tells her. "Please, Moka," she says, the first time we see the child named, "we've been through this before."

"It's just that I want to be like you," the child tells her as they hug. "Be like me?" Ninjara thinks as she walks away, a tear in her eye. "God forbid."

We see Ninjara sitting cross-legged in the moonlight in front of what I guess is a shrine or something. She muses over being called the greatest theif in all Japan and how she's only doing it for the money, same as always. "But this is different," she thinks. "This money will buy us time. Time to follow the trail. To dissect the clue. The single clue I have to my husband's murderers." The plot thickens, I see...

"Mokoshan... I was the greatest theif in all Japan and yet I allowed them to steal you from me," she thinks. "Mokoshan, my dearest..." Looks like she stayed with that guy from the "Moon Eyes" saga in TMNTA after all. And apparently he knocked her up, to boot.

"Screw the lame irony," she thinks, holding up a tiny bauble with Japanese markings. "I want revenge." "Continued..."

Interesting story. Apparently Ninjara's back to being a thief, and we learn a lot about what's happened to her since her last appearance in the Archie comic.

Furrlough Issue #52
NINJARA Part Three

Ninjara appears on the cover of this issue, clothes torn around the misection (no hooter shot this time, though). She looks determined, holding her katana as her daughter clings to her leg looking frightened.

We open with a silhouette of Ninjara in the moonlight, leaping from a rooftop. She breaks into the lab, mulling over why there would be any heavy security around a seed. She reaches for it, and is confronted by guards armed with machine guns.

I think maybe the pages in this issue got mixed up at the printer's, because on the next page Ninjara's back outside, mulling over the apparent lack of security. Thinking the doors and windows might be wired, she opts for the AC shaft, in another small gift for fanboys as we clearly see her nipples poking through her tight shirt. Must be cold outside.

Next page, Ninjara sneaks in and takes out one guard by whipping her knife at him, striking him in the temple with the handle. Apparently, someone is watching her on camera...

Next page, Ninjara is again confronting the armed guards. "I am SO scared," she mocks. "Don't do it! We're serious!" one tells her. "So am I," she replies.

"Die, then!" one of the guards yells as he fires. "You first," she tells him, tossing a handful of shuriken. She apparently kills one, slicing his throat with the shuriken, but misses the second. A third guard surprises her from behind. Ninjara tosses her over her shoulder and holds him in front of her as a shield. To her surprise, the guard with the machine gun fires anyway, riddling his compatriot with bullets.

"You would your kill your fellow guard just to keep me from stealing a seed?!" she asks, drawing her katana. Note the grammatical error, the first I've found.

"Yes!" he replies, charging for her. "And now I will YOU kill as well!" Either he meant to say "kill you" and not "you kill", or the writer was trying to be fanciful or something. I'll just call it grammatical error #2.

"But it is just a seed," says Ninjara, holding him back with her katana. "You KNOW I will kill you first. My sword arm is faster than your trigger. Spare yourself-- drop your weapon."

"And face the punishment that comes with failure?" he asks. "Never!" He fires on Ninjara, who is able to dodge even at point-blank range. She ducks his bullets and cuts off his legs at the knees. Ouch.

Ninjara stands before the seed, held stationary in some kind of column of light. "All this pain and death... over a seed." she thinks. "I must be overlooking some sort of subtext," she thinks as she takes the seed and examines it closely.

"To be continued..." WHA?

Apparently there's more to the story, but I have no idea where it appeared. To my knowledge, Ninjara didn't appear in Furrlough again, and if she appeared in any books since then I'm unaware of it. As for this issue, the first three or four pages were poorly paced. The reader has a hard time figuring out if the pages are mixed up, or if it's merely some really BAD flashback. All of it is easy enough to figure out though once the action starts. A few grammar errors aside, the story was pretty good. The art in all three chapters of the story was, of course, excellent.

So that's it, the much sought-after "Ninjara" story from Furrlough. Too bad it apparently has no end, I'd love to see where it goes from here.

Kinda pissed that she had a kid with Mokoshan, though. To me, she'll always be Raph's girl.

Revealing? Yeah, I guess that's one way to say it. Another way would be to say her whole t*t's hanging out. In one panel you can see it, but it's dark, covered by her hair, but in another panel it's clearly visible, nipple and all. Didn't expect that, but I'm not surprised either. And nobody seems to mind...

And sorry, but I don't have a scanner. My girlfriend does, but it's not working. And I don't have a website to post em on. Sorry guys. Maybe one day.

Keep in mind that books like Furrlough and Genus are books that collect several stories per issue, some are one-shot stories while others are serial-style. I also read the interview with the artist that someone posted in this Forum, where he confirms that the Ninjara story stopped at part 3 and was never completed. :(
