Favorite episode in season six of the old toon?

I just got the the dvd of season six from the old series and I spent the last three days watching the episode and I just finnished watching the today. And what is the best is that I can actually remember seeing these episodes when they came on the USA cartoon express line up when I was a kid. And I have to say that I really, really enjoyed this season. I was supriced on how good and entertaining these episides where.

Since it's been so long since i've seen season six of the old toon i had forgotten what these episokde where like and pretty much shared the same oppinion that the later season after season three and before season seven where the low point of the old toon run. But after watching these episode I have to say that this is pretty far from the truth. This season seemed to be a real step up from season five and four as far as animation and story telling goes. season seven if my favorite because it's tone and story telling returns to how it was back in season one of the show but after seeing season six I think it the return of good story telling and began in season six. Maybe it's because David Wise wrote the majority of season sixs episodes but I found them to be much better in quality than season five and even season four. Heck even the episodes not written by David Wise where pretty good and enjoyable like Sword of Yurikiwa and Nightmare in the lair where pretty good, even the sillier ones.

Those are my faves also it was so nice for Traag to have his own episode finally! I also enjoyed Shreeka's Revenge allot.

I also marked Sword of Yurikawa & Return of the Turtleoid as faves because I just love when Splinter & April are more involved in the episodes then they usually are.

There were some reused plots in this season. "Too hot to handle" was another episode about the Earth being heated up, and I recall there was a previous episode with Shredder doing the same thing. Was that the one his mother was in?

The Turtles turning into little kids was also similar to that Season 4 episode where I think Raph and Don get turned into little kids.

there are some reused plots in this season but I sort of liked it, like in Mr. Nice Guy with the personality altering ray I thought it was a nice nod to continuity. I also like how in this season most of the episodes took place at night time rather than having the turtles running around in broad day light like they normally do. I don't know it just made the episodes seem more a appropiate for the theme of the turtles to be in this setting. :)

I really liked Krangastien. For one it focused on Krang's body in this one which I liked since when the show began and Krang built it it just seemed like a plot devise to give Krang some mobility, and for once he was in his bubble walker which I rather like. I really liked seeing the robot body go beserk and attacking on its own with all those gadgets of death in it's arms. You really don't get to see more of Krang's in action except in the first season and in the finale of season three. Kinda make you wonder why, if the body is that amped up with weapons and arsenal that Krang doesn't go out and fight the turtles on his own more often. I also really liked how Shredder lost his memory in this episode and struck out on this own. I think this episode really emphasised how genuanly dangerous Shredder can be as a villan if he wheren't so distracted by getting even with the turtles or trying to gas up the technodrome. He still has his eveil instancts and on his own with out any one to foul him up he was able to make a lethal weapon and menace the city and would have succeeded had he not got his memory back and remembered his beef with the turtles. I think this proved that Shredder is actually a compentent bad guy who is just a victim of the people he is around, and also if he would just forget about avenging him self against the turtles he might actually win in conquring the city. :P

Agreed, I loved that episode anyway. Even though Raph was toned down in the old toon, he did act like a grouch or jerk in a number of episodes and this ep did a good job of focusing on that.

It's pretty much why I still love this version of Raphael. His sarcasm was great, and when he got pissed off he would always let everyone know it.

I really liked Rock Around the Block. It was a good episode and i liked that Tragg featured a bigger role in this one. Also the technodrome finnally moves to another location, the ocean! I thought it was a visual treat to see the turtles sparring in the begining you don't see that to often and you got to see more of their training hall/dojo in this episode. And it was intersting to see Raphael and Michelangelo sparr and to see Michaelangelo, not just holding his own but winning the sparring match by throwing him into the wall, a contrast to how in a season three episode where Raphael beats Michaelangelo in sparring rather easily and tosses him. Also I liked the little bit of Leonardo and Donatello sparring because it showed Leonardo being cocky and besting Donatello rather effertlesly. It was to see something not come so easily to Donatello in this episode since he was having trouble mastering woo wei and couldn't quite get the concept of defeating your oppenent with their own force. It was amusing seeing him trying it out on Raphael and he throws the couch at him LOL :lol:

And I loved the turtles going up against Tragg. He has got to be the most under used villan in the OT. He posed a legitimate threat to the turtles with his gravel monsters and gave the turtles a run for their money. It was nice seeing the turtles not being able to defeat the baddie of the day so easily, and seeing the bad guy cause some actual mayhem by having anything mineral attack people and causing destruction. It even had some good suspence with April almost going over a giant hole in the van trying not to make a move and a pencil rolls off the dash board to nock her over the edge. This episode gave Leonardo a chance to shine by being the one to come up with the idea how to defeat the gravel monsters and directing theaction instead of Donatello all the time. For once Donatello seemed pretty at lost on how to handle things and it was an intersting dynamic to see him like that. But Donatello proves himself by finnally figuring the art of woo wei and lets the bad guys destroy them selves. Although I was confused as to wghat the turtles where actually doing when they where sitting in a circle. I just thought they were doing nothing. which confused me because they had never used this technique before and never again. :ohwell:

My Favorite Season 6 Episode is Krangenstein Lives! I love the music in the episode and Krang's Robotic Body.

I really liked Return of the Turtleoid I loved seeing Kerma again. He is such a cute lovable little character. This was another episode that took place mostly at night which I like seeing in the old toon. This whole episode was filled with little gems and had pretty good suspence. The evil robot that was after Kerma was convincingly threatening and violent and added good urgency to the story of trying to figure out a way to destroy it. And this robot was bad. It had a pretty creepy design and you get a chilling feeling of what this ruthless killing machine could do to such gentle, defensless creature like Kerma and what horriable death he would have if it gets him. And even though as the viewer you might feel a little annoyed with kerma for not dealing with the situation himself and dragging the turtles into his "little problem" after seeing what menace he is about against and how weak and frail he is you undestand his need for help and the concern.

This episode was a good balance of entertainment and grit with some pretty memerable momets that I really enjoyed. Like the constant mentioning of Shredder being behind everything, you expect him to show up but he doesn't, to the amusing way Kerma is finnally reintroduced by every time he tries to get one of the turtles attention each of them brushes him off saying "not now___" thinking he is one the turtles LOL. I liked how this episode was set up, the fight scene when they are in Kermas space ship was cool and I liked how they found it the robots weakness is bright lights when Michaelangelo shinned a flashlight into it's eyes. And then as if matters wheren't already worse Kerma loses his gold machine which cause him to get sick making him lose conscienceness. But I think this episodes best part was Splinter and April teaming up together to protect Kerma from the robot. These two actually make a pretty good team together and it's nice when they take a more active role in the show. The whole sequance of them trying to hold the robot off was great. I love the chemistry Splinter and April have and the dynamic they both share of being limited in what they can do with one being slightly crippled and one being unable to fight but being able to compensate for each others weaknesses. All around great episode!

I'm still watching season 6 but I figured I'd make a comment now. I have two episodes left to watch. I just finished watching Leonardo Is Missing.
The first comment is how that episode managed to actually make season 6. I'm surprised I haven't noticed it before (aside from it being mentioned here before once or twice). It seems like a pretty big error on the part of the show. Although it aired after like 6 episodes of no Krang/Shedder so one would forget that the Technodrome is actually in the ocean and not the ice. Next time I rewatch the series, I'll have to make note of that so I can watch it in a better order.
Secondly, I didn't realize just how much like seasons 4 and 5 this season really was. So far though, I did enjoy Leonardo Is Missing the most. Probably my favourite episode of season 6. I liked how the turtles and Splinter had that vision where they saw dinosaurs for a brief second. It was kind of eerie.
I'm also quite looking forward to Snakes Alive so that one could end up being my favourite. I'll vote after I finish the final two episodes.

Secondly, I didn't realize just how much like seasons 4 and 5 this season really was. For some reason, I remembered Season 6 being more serious and more like season 7 but it is pretty much like the previous two so I didn't quite enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

I thought the episode in season six where more entertaining than episode in season four and five and had more bulk to them. I can only really think of two or three episodes in this season that I didn't like. What I liked about this season is that alot of the episodes where set at night rather than during the day. The weakest episode on here was probably Adventures in turtle sitting. I really couldn't find anything redeeming in that episode.

Yeah, that's another thing about season 6 is that I seemed to remember more episodes being set during the night. At least more than actually were. I guess most of my memories of season 6 episodes are actually from 7.

I can't WAIT for 7 now though! While I do want the european episodes to hit DVD at some point, I'm really hoping that whatever the next batch that comes out are the actual season 7 episodes! I can't wait for the Starchild and Night of the Rogues and all of the other cool ones!

Season 6 is a fantastic season. A lot of fans seem to think Season 7 is when the show got really good, but Season 6 was where it returned to almost consistent good episodes.

Not saying Seasons 4 and 5 were bad, but they had too many forgettable episodes those seasons.

Curiously enough, Season 6 was the end of the line for several "memorable" recurring characters: Big Louie, Professor Sopho, Pinky McFingers, Agatha Marbles and that ugly dude who barked when he laughed ("Mad Dog" McMongrel, or something?).

All of whom sorta sucked, actually. Still, it's worth noting ... I suppose.

Anyways, I vote for "Krangenstein Lives!" (though kinda by default).

The stories aren't the best (i.e., not terribly exciting; more emphasis on humor and crime solving instead of crime fighting), but the animation is pretty top-notch all the way through, if I remember. I do love the more consistent look of the CBS episodes.

There's a lot of slightly above average episodes in season 6. Nothing spectacular but nothing really sucks. I feel like a lot of them venture beyond their comfort level as far as what the danger is for that episode.

I'll go with Rock Around The Block but just by a hair.

I was probably one of those people. I think it's the most consistently good season since season 1. Perhaps my third favourite after 1 and 7. But I do hold seasons 3 and 4 dearly. ;)

I voted Shreeka's revenge. It's a really fun episode and it almost fits the tone of season 7. The emphasis is more on adventure i/o comedy, while there's still a lot of the latter of course. I see this episode as a great precedent to season 7.

Isn't ironic that the episode I remember the most from childhood "Too Hot to Handle" has a 0 so far? It's true as I really was hooked on The Weather Channel back then and the part about "It's 110 degrees" really sounded serious. However, if this episode was like a vinyl single, it's practically the b-side to "Shredder's Mom".

Still, that scene in Shreeka's Revenge where April almost dies falling off that proposed Channel 6 building is both scary and ironic at the same time, where Shredder breaks her fall before being rescued at the last minute by the turtles. Plus, the destruction of that building hints at what lies ahead (Get Shredder). That got my vote. I thought "Polly Wanna Pizza" would be fun like "Pizza by the Shred" and "Killer Pizzas", but it was a bit flat and my least favorite episode from this set.

Overall, I find Season 6 a middle ground between Season 5 (very light and goofy) and Season 7 (somewhat darker and with a bit more action). Some of the background music found since the beginning of the show was gone for Season 6, but there were many cues from the first three seasons still being used, such as that Climatic Background theme. There are also considerably more night episodes than in the earlier seasons as well, a trend that continues with Season 7. It is also the last season where April gives a good news report almost every episode introducing the plot and often the resolution.
