View Full Version : Why was Slash so different in the old toon from the Archie series?

I have to ask, which Slash came first? The Playmates toy also looks like Archie Slash so I'm not sure which one came before the other.

I have mixed feelings about cartoon Slash, I didn't like his buck teeth sticking out from his mouth. But I loved his debut episode when he went to search for his "pinky" which was the palm tree, he was truly a maniac. Season 6 made him intelligent, which was ok, but he was better in his debut ep.

How do you feel about the original cartoon Slash?

The toy came first. I remember being really irked that toon Slash looked *nothing* like the toy, and it disappointed me that he was so stupid. Archie Slash made up for that ten-fold, but in some ways he reminded me of a really intense Raph. I still liked Archie Slash though, him and his awesome black bandanna!

Yeah, I wonder why they made Slash so stupid in his other appearances. He was more naive than stupid in his first episode... I mean he did just mutate that same day... but then in the second and third episodes he really was a dumbass.. I mean... Bebop and Rocksteady were smarter than him... And hell, why did they replace the black bandanas????

Well, for that you may as well ask, why is Leatherhead a complete villain in the cartoon, while in the Archie Comics, he's just a confused theif who was used as a pawn by the Shredder, all the while being a normal mutated Gator raised by the Utroms in the Mirage comic? Or, why did Wingnut and Screwloose have a storyline with more depth in Archie, while the cartoon put them as 2 cliched aliens trying to brainwash people to take over the world?

Basically it's just a different adaption, and the Archie Comics beat some of these characters to the punch.

^ Yeah.

Just like DrTooth says, it's basically a different take on the characters. Many of the toy and toon characters that were put in the Archie comic had vast differences in origin, motives, etc.

To add another on to what he already mentioned, also have--

Ace Duck the pilot in toyline and Ace Duck the wrestler in Archie.

the a.c. farley drawn slash in the archie universe source books was really cool. i thought the character from both the cartoon and the comic were goofy. he could have stood to be separated from the palm tree motivation.
