WHo here hated the fact that a new female turtle was brought into the group? So glad the ydecided to scrap her,, was the stupidst thing they could have done,, the turtles should stay 4!

Anyone here actually liked her/?

Kali

*raises her hand* I liked the concept.

Now, I'm not saying they should bring her back. The biggest problem I have with the choice to erase Venus from TMNT was the way they did it. They had incorporated her so deeply in the site and TMNT Letters (a sub-universe in itself) and then suddenly, she was gone from there. Very weak and lazy. Honestly, I would have preferred they kill her off instead. There are better ways to get rid of a character then "poof, she's gone!"

If they'd gone about it with a little more creativity, it wouldn't bother me that much. I'd be like, "okay", then go about my business. But no, they had to cop out and be pathetic about it.

Yes, a mistake, but any half-decent artist knows how to cover up a mistake seamlessly. It's NOT that hard, they didn't have to draw attention to it.

she was a good concept with a bad execution. Maybe if they had introduced her in a comic or animated series she may have stuck but the fact that she came from the live action hurt her more than anything else.

And the fact that she was the fifth turtle from the bowl (pretty lame in itself) and she knew magic...

MAGIC! :D

With Venus being a character. She ruins the whole plot. She is not like her turtle brothers, I mean, like one big difference is that they were named after painters from the Italin Reassisance and she was not, plus they were original characters.

It is just like there being a new Punk Frog and called her Mary Antionfrog, in opposition to Mary Antionette.

It ruins the whole plot. It makes no sense. She should be taken out.

She ruins the whole dynamic foresome thing with her... being. She's like a shackle around the turtlefeet. A new weak ally that really doesnt do anything but get saved.... And her body structure is weeiiird... someone told me that the Next mutation was a bad copy of the Power Rangers... and I agree. Death to Venus De Milo!

Bah, I loved Venus, she wasn't usless, she just wasn't experianced. She went from a sheltered life where she was taught magic to a world were she was alone in her past, in a strange place, with people tring to kill her. It was massive culture shock people she wasn't usless.

And I stand by her being a good idea, its sabans that sucks, Venus was the most powerful person in the damn show, and the irradication of her is suck a biased and desrepectful way was a travisty.

Given time she could have been a great chacter, she just needed to be put in the right medium, with the right cretive forces

well, i think venus (or character very similar to her) could be incorporated in the ninja turtle epic at some point.....

however, it is essential to remember that in the REAL turtle mythology, one of the big themes is the notion of isolation so much so that one can never really have a chance of perpetuating your 'kind' or of romantic involvement.... now, this may just be a stage in the characters' archetypal growth and such elements like venus could be incorporated later in.

now, the thing i DO have a problem with is not a fifth, female turtle.... that maybe feasible and acceptable at some point in the epic. no, i have a problem with venus' story itself. washed down the drain?? shinobi?? magic?? what the hell??? it has saban written all over it....

no, if we are gonna get venus or someone like her and put her in the tmnt epic than we need to radically rework her story. this 'shinobi' ("I'm not ninja, I am shinobi."  ) bit ain't cuttin' it.....

Kali
02-18-2003, 11:55 AM
There were so many other origins they could have used. Scientific experiment, genetic experimentation, radiation, a different canister of ooze, or maybe she just had no idea where she came from. Saban's story had a LOT of holes. The only thing she knew for certain was that she was found in a New York drainage ditch, they "filled in" the parts about her being in the jar with them and floating away. It's possible that never happened. I still say she's evil and is just biding her time until she can claim ultimate power for her own and take over the world. Bwahahahaha!

I so wanna buy her character rights. And maybe those of the other characters like Dragonlord and Bonesteel. Just spent all my cash on figures and socks, but I'm sure I can strike a deal with Peter. Then he'd have a good excuse for not using her: "I don't own her!"

Heretic is right, in the Mirage comics the TMNT isolation was a recurrent theme. One of the best examples was Vol. 1 Issue 28 by Jim Lawson. I believe it was titled "Sons of the Silent Age". An absolutely brilliant, yet depressing issue.

Yes, I like that theme in Mirage too. You don't see me trying to write out sappy gettin-it-on romance fics in that universe either.

To each universe is their own, is what I go by. What works in one, will not work in the other. But since TNM was based off of the movies.. and that isn't like Mirage, I was cool with it. But then Saban had to make it soooo crappy. *sai*

Well, heck there are quite a few humans I find attractive as well. It's the "exoticness", along with the great personalities I find attractive. Their Turtle qualities are actually very low on the list. I don't think regular turtles are that attractive. Cute, in a pet shop way, but not attractive.

The only gruff I have against Venus, is that she has 'tits'. It makes no sense whatsoever to put mammary glands on a reptile, especially if there weren't any human genes involved to make her that way (as so it seems for TNM).

Of course... since Ninjara is at least a mammal and that she's patterned after the other female furry animorphs, then I don't question the logic of why she has 2 instead of 6. :P

LOL! Funny you should mention that, HT. I'm doing a comic short with my characters from Animal Instinct discussing this very subject, why the female reptilian characters have breasts. its pretty funny..... turtles don't have mammary glands. or eyelashes.

in addition, if i am not mistaken, female turtles are in fact larger than males. gee.... that opens up a new can of worms, huh??

if there really were a female mutant turtle, she woul dbe indistinguishable from the tmnt.... except she might be a little bigger.

No, not the same character. At the moment, I have over 30 fan fics to my name, some short, some long. And more in the brainstorming stage. I think, if I added everything up, Raph would get the most action, and most of those characters are heavily based on myself. But I don't wanna leave the others out in the cold either. I don't mind the concept behind Venus's character, but I *didn't* like the fact that Saban was behind the Next Mutation. As soon as I heard that, I thought "Oh no... The show is going to be like Power Rangers." And it was. Cheesy lines. Fake fighting. Stupid filler scenes (and reused scenes) and a lack of real character development. I didn't like anything about the show... but it was TMNT... and so I watched it.

Getting back to Venus... I like the idea of their being another turtle character. Note, I didn't say a new "TMNT" character. There are only 4 TMNT and they should stay that way. There were only 4 turtles in the bowl... not 5. I have no problem with her being a mutant turtle that was raised to be shinobi. I have no problem with her travelling to NYC to find Splinter and the TMNT. But she shouldn't be their blood relative. I think, if anything she should be a surrogate younger sister to them... or maybe a love interest to one of them, but I'm no fanfic writer so I don't know what sounds better on paper.

At any rate, Venus is ok in my book... as long as she's included in the TMNT universe in a proper and serious manner. Hell, I like her so much I even made HeroClix stats for her.

(And yeah, she is pretty damn hot!) :P

Actually, they proved in the show she was not a blood relative, and none of the guys are related either. She was seen as a sister though, and maybe if there had been a second season we might have seen some romance. (I still vote for her pairing with Leo or Mike, though she's been paired with pretty much everyone.)

And they simply assumed that she was in the jar with them. They don't have any proof. I still think there's a much bigger story behind the whole thing.

So, yeah, Saban is evil incarnate, Venus and the TMNT were simply innocent bystanders. :D

They never say! Leo and Vee are talking and he tells her that he and the other guys aren't related, and that Venus is not their sister. It then goes on into a very awkward psuedo-romantic moment that makes me gag every time I see it. But it's worth it for the "Let's return to your home in the toilet." line. "That's sewer." "What's the difference?" "Well, actually, not a lot."

But if you read the TMNT Letters on the Official Site, "Don" claims to have blood tested his brothers and Venus, so they know they aren't blood related.

She did become a surrogate "sister", the same way the guys see Splinter as their "father", even though they aren't even the same species. She wasn't part of the continuum very long, and they were still feeling each other out when she "disappeared". I think the guys were still thinking romance, and it's very hard to think that way about someone you consider a sister.
