At least the dude respects the Turtles! From this week's Cup of Joe QnA:

Patches wants to know:
Joe, if you could create the "Perfect Comic Universe" and had your choice of every comic character ever created (from Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, etc), what would you do, given that PCU power?

JQ: Patches, wow…that's a wild question! I'm assuming that you're talking about creating a unified universe, which is really the tough part. Because in my perfect world, I'd find a way to have a universe in which Spider-Man could exist along with Preacher. I'm big on diversity and love all sorts of different characters and genres, so my PCU would be a very mixed bag. I wish this was the only question I was answering today because I'd really put a lot more thought into it.

The simple math would be to take some Marvel mainstays and then add Batman to the mix. The Rocketeer would exist in my PCU and Sin City would be one of the locales for some of the stories. Maybe get rid of Batman's Gotham and put Bats, Grendel, The Crow, Daredevil and Moon Knight in as its resident heroes. You could also tell the story of Howard Chaykin's Black Kiss within Sin City. I'd also love to see a locale where X-O Manowar lived alongside Iron Man and Deathlok, and perhaps American Flagg.

If you go back in time in my PCU, you'd find the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and in its future you'd find the world of Skreemer.

I'd mix in some Gen13 from back in its heyday as well as have alternate dimensions in which the Mutant Ninja Turtles live alongside The Mask and Madman and Bone.

Wow, I could go on and on, but we have more questions to answer. Hopefully that gives you some idea.

Hrm, TMNT in an alternate dimension? With characters like The Mask? It would be interesting, I suppose, but I'd much rather see them living in Sin City/Gotham with Batman, Daredevil, Moon Knight, and the rest of the gang. They'd be doing their own thing, of course, just trying to survive, but they'd constantly get caught up in stuff that's way over their heads. Just picture City At War, but with the Hand jumping into the fray as well. Rival ninja gangs? Heck, yeah!

Bah! Quesada, you fool! In the comics, the character is called "Big Head"! He's only called "the Mask" in the movies and cartoon! BAH I SAY!

Yeah I'd rather see them w/ Batman, the Punisher, and other dark heroes either in Gotham City or NYC. The turtles are ninjas for cryin' out loud.

If a big company crossover were to ever occur, I'd love to see Daredevil the most. It's almost cliche now but the two worlds go perfectly together. I think a Wolverine/Raph and Mikey thing would be fun too. I think a Mikey and Robin team up would be really cool...

I like how he refers to them in their present form as the "Mutant Ninja Turtles". Quite nice to see he knows they are no longer teenagers in the current series. :)

Kevin used to dream of one day of a Daredevil/TMNT crossover, assumedly using their shared origin story as a catalyst.

I think the Turtles would probably fit best in the Marvel universe if they were added to a mainstream comics universe. There are so many other mutants there, even ones that live in the sewers of New York.:)

Although the Turtles could be interesting in DC Comics too, just because they'd be different and really stand out among characters like Superman and Green Lantern. Plus a crossover with Batman and the TMNT patrolling the rooftops at night would be badass.

Agreed, though that would probably create the same problem that Vol. 4 presents (though it's only a problem depending on how you look at it) -- the TMNT, no long special or unique, just one group of some infinite number of mutants in the world.

I'm huge into Green Lantern and wouldn't argue a TMNT/GL crossover one bit, as weird as it would be.

Plus a crossover with Batman and the TMNT patrolling the rooftops at night would be badass.

The Mirage TMNT aren't crimefighters, so that would be very strange if they were fighting crime with Batman in dark alleys and such. Teaming up to fight some common enemy would be neat, though.

It would be nice if for the 25th anniversary Mirage could see if other companies like Marvel, DC, Image, and Darkhorse would be interested in doing something in the way of intercompany crossovers.

Was thinking more in the neighborhood of Ra's al Ghul, Bane, Lady Shiva, Killer Croc, etc.... but diabetes and childhood obesity would be a close second. :)

Turtles with Mask with madman with bone.

Yea. This is Quesada. Complete lack of understanding of anything but the surface of a concept. And usually a skewed version of that.

There's about five things I give Quesada credit for. Besides being a great marketer, an advocate for Spider-Girl, a guy who makes Marvel look like the Oval office on CNN and Colbert interviews, and a great artist, being a TMNT fan is a bonus.

But seriously...NOT knowing that there IS a New York and Gotham in the DC Universe, therefore not needing to get rid of Gotham at all, is about one of the ten reasons why he's so incompetant at characterisation and concepts

He's only really an advocate for Spider-Girl because he feels it gets fans off his back somewhat when he points out that Peter and MJ are still together in the MC2 continuity. It makes him seem like less of a homewrecker.

sounds more to me like he is just sprouting off names of properties to make it seem like he knows what he is talking about while scoring cool points with the fans of the respective properties.

MC2 is the true Marvel timeline in my opinion, even Quesada calls it the "natural" timeline. I'd love to see him use MC2 as a place to launch new characters and "successors" to the originals, and use the Ultimate line as the official mainstream Marvel timeline.

i know the mirage tmnt aren't crime-fighters, but i almost wish they would just declare themselves as such like TMNT 08 did, just so laird wouldn't have to keep coming up with contrived explanations as to why they are fighting people.

i think the TMNT wouldn't really work in either marvel or DC. Marvel cuz the uniquness of the turtles would dwindle.

As for DC i guess they might fit, but i prefer for them to just have a univrse all to themselves.

the one positive thing about installing them into one of these universes is that the various TMNT continuities can stop ripping off the superhero characters of those worlds for the mirage b-grade superheroes.

SNIKT! Reading a Wolverine/Raph crossover would be the closest thing to spiritual enlightenment that I can imagine. Talk about a bad-arse overdose!

I think you can just say "Ninja Turtles" then they turn older, as in the Next Mutation (even if they were only 18-19 and still teenagers in Next Mutation).
