Holy....just...damn....wow.....one of the best animes I have ever seen....I'm just really speechless.....the story was compelling, I actually cared for the characters, the animation if fluid, I did not see any choppy moments....Hell, even the dub is amazing. This should be an example that anime can be an art form.....wow.....
Sorry for sounding "Out there", I'm just virturally speechles.....

yeah. it's a real winner alright. definitely a classic.
if you're into anime that pulls on your SOUL... may i recommend...
GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES.
warning: you will cry. lots. many times.
and just a cultural word here:
firefly season in Japan is something as talked about and anticipated every year as "Autumn in NewEngland." it's just accepted as one of the most beautiful times of the year.
Of course, as with all seasons, it does end and it's a common theme for children in a manga or anime or any Japanese story to ask their parents where all the fireflies have gone.
Why do i bring this up?
Because the answer for little kids is "away." they're just gone. We don't know where they go. Or... when you get older... you learn the truth. they all died. every year. they're only here for a short, flickering moment. then they ALL DIE.
enjoy the film. you'll see why i told you that when you've watched it...
sometimes it sucks to be older.

YEah, its an astonishing beautiful little film...AND from 1987! I see a lot of anime these days that doesnt look that good. Definately one of Gainax's(Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL) best work. There is a lot of non cliche epic animes that come out now and then that even the most anti anime person would enjoy, like this, Spirited Away, or Perfect Blue.

amen!!
PERFECT BLUE is one of my all time faves.
I didn't bring it up before b/c Mikey the PT seemed to be looking for TOUCHING films. not the stuff that grabs you and plays cruel mind games before giving you back your bleeding brain at the end of an approx hour and a half ride.
if THAT"S what you look for in a good movie, the DEFINITELY try PERFECT BLUE.
as for Neon Evangelion... i just couldnt'get into it. That shinji character was SO whiney... i wanted to murder him w/ a ballpeen hammer.
FLCL (fu-lee ku-lee or fu-ree ku-ree) has me in STICHES. i LOVE that one. from the cat to the robots to the pyro girl to the Vespa Woman to the dad to the SOUNDTRACK.
oh my god. the PILLOWS are my new favorite Japanese Punk band.
heh heh.
you've got good tastes beaker.
how 'bout... Tenshi ni naroumon? or GTO? or HELLSING?
mmm.... animeeeeee.....

KYA!! Yo dudette, you need to post more often. :anime:
I've yet to see Grave of the Fireflies, but I've heard so many good things about it. I'll look into it during spring break, if I get any time. ;)
I love GTO!!! Omigosh, that series is so hilarious. I need to watch more eps of that. I've only seen the first five or so.
Oh! How about Niea_7?? That's a great, light-hearted series. Aliens living with humans = hilarious situations.

Actaully, from what I have seen of EVA, it seemed pretty damn good. :D To each his own I guess. I'll try some of those recomendations too. :) I just wish Sci-Fi channel would show anime again. They played Akira alot. God, I love watching Keneda doing that peel out on that sweet bike.... :D Although, the plot of Akira did confuse at some points, I thought it was pretty damn good. I need to buy more anime though....damn Suncoast and thier $35 DVDs.
One question I gotta ask ya guys:
Dub or Sub? :D For me, I'll take sub over dub anyday. (Especially with DBZ and other "Americanized" Anime.)
Also:Trigun is coming Toonami, but I'd rather see it on DVD. If you huys are interested, I have a fanfic up that is heavely anime-inspired. :D *COUGH*Shamelessplytohavepeoplereadfanfic*COUGH* :-?

Heh heh... I perfer subs, but I don't mind watching dubs as long as they're done well. For example, I loved the dubbing in Monoke Hime, and I think the recent dubbing in DBZ has improved drastically over the first season. I also enjoyed the dubbing of the most recent release of Akira. :D

Ah, yes they did get better at dubbing DBZ now, but I wish it was like this all the way through.....I cannot sit through the Freezer saga dubbed....Freezer's american dub needs to see a doctor about dem lungs. I actually enjoy the Akira dub that has Cam Clarke doing Keneda's voice. :D (Please tell me anyone has played Grandia 2? Cam does Ryudo's voice as well! :D )

heh heh. hello to you too, Azure-kun. guess i haven't been around much lately... i've just been... you know... um... hidin' out...http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/toiletsmilie.gif

look, if you want to plot to make sense, you need to understand that the ANIME is MASSIVELY cut down from the original manga...
It's a FULL set of 6 books. EACH of which is several hundred pages. so... all in all... the anime's missing several of the plot lines. but it does do an incredible job anyways. But yeah, if you wanna GET everything, you've gotta read the manga first.
as for sub vs. dub... i'll watch anything w/o complaint, but all in all... i'm ALL ABOUT THE SUBS!!
And yeah, Niea-7 was terribley cute. If you did like that one Azure, I heartily recommend "TENSHI NI NAROUMON" [i'm gonna be an angel!!] you'll have to look for fansubs for it. b/c only the FIRST five episodes are available in the US mainstream... http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/whinging.gifhttp://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/whinging.gifhttp://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/whinging.gifhttp://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/whinging.gifhttp://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/whinging.gifhttp://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/whinging.gif
um... one that IS easily available is "Fruits Baskets" so so so so so so so KAWAIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiii.... oh my god... i almost died. http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/sloppy.gif awwww... *is overwhelmed by the cutesies.*

Oh, now were gonna get into recent kick butt anime eh?
.hack//SIGN freaking rocks!(the first cross media anime/video game/manga thing)
ghost in the shell stand alone complex(japanese tv series, fansubbed on animeone IRC or kazaa)
cowboy bebop the movie(go see this when it hits your area, its too cool)
blood the last vampire(most astonishing looking anime ever...thats why its only 45 minutes...cost to much to make)
metropolis(another recent epicly great anime feature from the akira guys)
spirited away(this needs to win that oscar, one of the best theatriclaly released anime films in recent times...think Never Ending Story on crack!)
vampire hunter d 2(forget that crappy 1985 version, this is the one ya need to see)
neon genesis evangelion: end of evangelion the movie(available at your local blockbuster, this is the only neon genesis movie ever made...and boy is it one heck of a mind trip!)
tenchi muyo in love the movie(usually not into the genre, but the animation and story of this one is top notch)
finally...Akira...no anime fan is complete without the newly released pioneer dvd version. The mother of all animes, in great digital format.
As for sub or dub? Either, as long as I can soemwhat understand whats going on!^_^
