Let's face it people, The Ninja Turtles were a child of the 80's, without them, the Turtles are lacking. It's interesting to see how the new cartoon's characters are adapted to the new millenium, but let's not forget that with the advent of AI and thinking computers, idiots now have an excuse to become even more stupid then they already were.
This is what I fear will happen with the new cartoon. If they have references to media and current styles and trends, the shows goning to suck, with a vengence. You can already see it with April O'neil being a preppy 16 year old sex pot. I really find that stupid.
But the thing that probably got to me the most was the "Shell Phone". Why? Couldn't they just say 'Turtle Comm" like in the original cartoon? No. Of course not, because today's cartoons are terrible, and I want them burned. I have fond memories of the days when I turned on the TV and knew the first thing I saw would be a mutant turtle or a Thunder Cat beating the crap out of something and not having any relation with the media. The worst you could expect from an 80's cartoon is an air-head Madonna parody with a helium voice.
But I have this odd feeling all cartoons these days are just gonna start saying witty zingers like "You're scheme is a total failure, Shredder! Just like George W. Bush's life up until 2000!" And then the Shredder would throw a gas grenade at them or something and escape while saying "This is my final answer! WAHAHAHAHAHA." And then, kids, let's face it: the world will end.
So please, write your Congressmen and demand that cartoons be made 22 minute long toy commercials again, so we can enjoy them heart and soul.
I'm not saying the new turtles cartoon is bad, (except for the opening credits) I'm just saying that there are some sad excuses for cartoons out there and don't let something as kick ass as the turtles fall to ruin like that crap-fest "Transformers Armada" or "Yu-Gi-Oh". The End.

As I'm sure most of you will agree but I wanted to throw my mangos in the bucket...

In my opinion I don't think you can compare the two. Yes they are both Turtles...but they are created with very different audiences in mind. The old one was created for products of the eighties and early ninties. During that time many differenet things were going on...anime had not hit yet, what was or wasn't funny was different...and technology was different. Remember twards the end of the old show how April finnally got a computer with a mouse connected to the internet?! Its changed a lot in the last 10 years, but we don't see it because we lived through it..

However, the new cartoon is made for a very different group of people. OLD AND NEW FANS ALIKE. Which means it is expanding and improving upon an oldie but a goodie. It isn't trying to be better than the old one...but be as good for the new generation as it was for the old one...and in order to do that there must be updating and changing.

Both are great shows in their own rights...I will cherrish them BOTH

I think the new April looks very cool(and quite hot!) And yeah, calling it the shell cell is very lame(Sorry, I HATE cell phones...I liked the world better before everyone and their goldfish had one) but c'mon...at least theyre not saying "dude, that's hella sick and tight dawg!" Modern slang has NOTHING on the rad/bad/bogu to the max days. Anyways, ya gotta soak in at least a few more episodes to make any sort of judgement. I look forward to seeing episodes two and three this saturday.

I have to agree with you... I had a friend that was making these arguments about the new MoTU and that the 80's one Was SOOO Much better that it hurt to watch the new one... So I pointed out to him how much better the animation is, the story telling, and how the original one talked down to us kids this one talks at us. I feel it's the same thing with the new TMNT. Overall, this show is so much better, in animation, story telling, acting and everyother way possible. as for the theme song at frist, I couldnt stand this new theme song and now I find it stuck in my head just as much as the old theme was :\

The TMNT are not Bind in the 80's. Nor is anything else bind to certain time. I.E. James Bond. It has always happened in the time, and has almost always worked. The new TMNT, is one of the rare shows where new versions becomes better than the original. We should be happy it happened this way.

i once again agree with karpo. in fact the old show was influenced by media so your wrong anyway. look at some episodes "attack of the big macc" media reference- short circuit , the character rex one media reference- robocop.

as for the communicators, i like turtlecomm better than shell cell but it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference to the show and as for april, i'm not nuts about the design, but it's not bad.

Scene(3)-Just For Feet Store. Turtles beating crap out of stuff and what not. Shredder bursts in with foot. Everyone fights. People get asses kicked and kicked hard. Some can't even sit down afterwards because pain in ass so great.
Shredder-"Crap, this always happens! Foot! Light everything on fire!"
Shredder and Foot escape.
The End.

See? that was great! I would watch that all day long. Because cartoons are an escape from reality! Cartoons were made for action! Thats why Gem and My Little Pony sucked! MOTU, GI Joe, Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, Mega Man, Batman, Spider Man, etc. were all incredible shows because none of them had any real indepth story (Dont get me wrong, if the new TMNT does have a really good story I would be over joyed) but honestly, the only cartoon to date that kicked ass and had a story was X-Men. Original TMNT had death in it, the TMNT defeated their enemies and got wounded sometimes. This cannot ever be fully seen in cartoon. In Original TMNT Saki died off screen in explosion, and they can probably do something similar if they want to. We have seen that the show can have off screen death, So they can probably pull it trough.

Many years ago Pokemon came out. I hated it. I still do. I let it influnce my opinion of all Anime, so when say.....Sailor Moon came out, I dumped on it. Later I realised I was judging a show without watcching it. So I watched it. I havent loved a show that much since TMNT. My point is that an animated series dosen't need to be just pointless stabbing and killing to be worth watching. TMNT wasn't just pointless action either. They kicked butt if they had a reason to. And yes it will have a good story. We know this because it is based off the Mirage storyline. And APRIL IS NOT A 16 YEAR OLD SEX POT!! Nor is she a bitch so quit trashing the new TMNT. That is so not true. The fact that this forum is as active as it is is a test to how untrue that statement is! In fact, the turtles never went away...they have always been active in some way shape or form.

I'm sorry to disapoint you but this show will not "crumble" as you put it. The show is number one in its time slot which is a great start...and in comparison to the other "children" cartoon shows out there this is NOT lacking in anything. This show is much more adult than it is child and because of that it gives kids a more complete show.

My bet is on ten seasons if it continues to provide what it is providing now. It seems to me that Don Woo Animation is really taking they're work seriously and for that I am happy and it will not "crumble"
