This is a thread for fantasizing about writers (of comics, cartoons, et.c.) we would like to see writing for Back to the Sewer.
Let's try to keep it somewhat plausible by not mentioning people who would never write for TMNT or a children's cartoon. Also, don't mention yourself (unless you're an established writer).
I think I'd like to start by mentioning Peter David, writer of stuff and co-creator of Space Cases. I read his Dreamwave TMNT comic series last night, and it blew me away, and it annoyed me that it ended after only seven issues. He's got a great sense of humor, he doesn't dumb it down and he can be deep and serious at the same time as being funny, his dialogue is just amazing, he's got a great grip on the characters and he spins intelligent, interesting and emotionally resonant stories. If he were at least given the chance to write an episode of the cartoon (or better yet, more than one, or hey, the next movie), that would be straight up magical. Peter David currently writes for the Marvel comic series She-Hulk (which I have yet to read his run on).
Which brings us to Dan Slott, who was the previous writer for She-Hulk and a whole bunch of other things and now apparently writes for Amazing Spider-Man. I've only read his She-Hulk run, myself, but I enjoyed it. It was funny and "out there" and interestingly weird. Upon googling, I just found out that he has written for the TMNT before, in Archie comics' "Year of the Turtle". Has anyone read it?
Doug Petrie & Jane Espenson wrote the two parter "The Joining" for "The Batman". A sign that they're not above writing for cartoons. And the fact that they're really good writers and did a whole bunch of great work on genre salad ensemble show Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a sign that they could probably do something interesting with the similarly mixy (and eight-syllabled) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Though they may be busy at the moment as co-executive producers on CSI and Battlestar Galactica respectively.
Keep the thread going, people! What writers do you think could bring that extra layer of awesome to the show?
Disclaimer, I suppose: This thread is fantasy, and as such highly unlikely to have any effect on the actual show unless someone from 4kids happens to stumble in here and go "well wouldja lookit that!".
