This is what Dan said in the official News letter:

Howdy folks!

Here's the long awaited scoop from 4Kids regarding the television ratings
for the premiere episode of TMNT:

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES SCORES IMPRESSIVE DEBUT NUMBERS ON FOX BOX

TENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Premiere Increases Time Period By Whopping 71.4%

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLE Debut Combined With Strong Ratings Performances
From KIRBY, ULTIMATE MUSCLE And The Premiere of THE CRAMP TWINS Increases
FOX BOX Over Seasonal Average By 24%

New York, NY * The eagerly anticipated Saturday, February 8 debut of TEENAGE
MUTANT NINJA TURTLES has shelled out the ratings for FOX BOX, as the 4Kids
Entertainment (NYSE: KDE) Saturday morning kids network generates a powerful
3.6 rating among its targeted boys 9-14 demographic.

The TMNT 9-14 demo rating represents a whopping 71.4% increase in the
Turtle¹s 10:30AM time period over Saturday, January 25 (the most recent
Saturday in which the network had national clearance).

Across the entire 8:00AM-12Noon block, the February 8 FOX BOX broadcast
delivered a 2.6 Boys 9-14 rating * resulting in an impressive 23.8% increase
in the all-important demo over the network¹s 2.1 seasonal average.

At the same time, FOX BOX fave KIRBY: RIGHT BACK AT YA! ranked #2 against
same time period competition both for its 8:30AM and 9:00AM airings. The
Pink Powerhouse delivered the network¹s top February 8 numbers with a 4.0
for boys 9-14, a 3.7 for boys 6-11 and a 2.6 for kids 6-11.

At 10:00AM, ULTIMATE MUSCLE flexed its ratings muscles, delivering a solid
2.9 boy 9-14 rating * continuing the series¹ week to week growth.

The premiere of the much talked-about THE CRAMP TWINS also yielded an
impressive first appearance, generating a boys 9-14 rating of 2.1, placing
the outrageously wild animated offering in third place against same time
period competition.

Tokka-B
02-21-2003, 02:33 PM
The new show sucks because there is no plot, the jokes get old, most voices are crap, too dark, that annoying stupid anime crap stuff they do in battle scenes, seems the whole show is underground or something, purple dragons are wimps, the show doesn't flow as well, etc....and of course the new theme song.

Karpo_007
02-21-2003, 02:34 PM
And you say that old cartoon had better plot and no wimpy opponents not to mention TMNT? One thing I can say to that:   Right...

Tokka-B
02-21-2003, 02:51 PM
The old tmnt actually acted as ninjas, only fighting a bloody battle if they absolutely have to, which they didn't, they usually proved to people not to mess with them by lifting up cars and crap, it was great and the kids had a good group to look up to. So they were smarter too in a sense. Yes, the foot were such wimps in the old one, but there were so many bosses that made up for that factor.

Dinny
02-21-2003, 02:51 PM
Hey thats Tokkas opinion. I disagree with him but its still his opinion. And anyway no1s forcing u to watch the show, u dont have to go on about how crappy u think it is.
I gotta agree with Karpo tho, i dont see how u can say that this TMNT series has no plot and the old 1 does.

Karpo_007
02-21-2003, 02:54 PM
Correction, after the first season there was nothing Ninja in the old cartoon. Least the fighting. After the First season all opponents of the TMNT were wimps, but funny ones.

You are totally wrong unless you ment the comics when speaking of Ninja's and Bloody battles.

Dinny
02-21-2003, 03:00 PM
U cant really say that this TMNT show is really bad because u have only seen 2 eps. U have seen many more old TMNT eps.

Tokka-B
02-21-2003, 08:24 PM
Ok, let me make this clearer: I don't think this new show is good so far, of course that is just my opinion, and I am glad you respect it dinny, as I do yours. I can still watch the show if I don't like it, for plenty of reasons, but mainly to see if it gets any better, and I think it still has some potential. The same works both ways though, you can't be so for the show when there have been only 2 episodes so far.......Also, when I say I don't like the new show, that does not in any way mean I like the old show better, because you can't compare them, all I can say is I enjoyed the old one, and am not really enjoying this so far....

I still disagree with Karpo though, I thought the tmnt were more ninjas as the show progressed...and no I am not referring to the comics.

Karpo_007
02-22-2003, 01:15 AM
Ninjas in the old show? They hardly even used weapons. Well that changed in seasons 8.10, but seasons 2-7 were splastick comedy. If you know what ninja is, You should know that they are ninja in the new cartoon. IE Raph moving stealhy. In old show they were always running around the city, and everybody saw them. They were even in TV. Nothing Ninja in it.

But if you still like the old better, Thát's your opinon.

Dinny
02-22-2003, 03:09 AM
Ye it is his opinion, but there wer 196 eps of the old show and so far there have been 2 of the new 1. U cant really judge it that fast.

Tokka-B

I'd just like to start off and say The News about the Ratings WOHOOO!!!!!! That is so awesome TURTLE POWER

Now about the new show i've seen three episodes so far, its ok its kinda cool but it dosen't have the same magic that the Turtles once had for me. Its not the theme song its the whole new vibe on the show i can't explain but ithere's something just missing. I know when i was a kid I would kill anybody if i missed an episode of the TMNT but now i'm only watching cuz i feel in a way i have to cuz its Turtles and if i missed an episode its no big deal.

Like this episode I love origin, creation, mutation episodes. There my fav part for any show i love those stories how someone got mutated or recieved special powers. There always the best part. But this is the only origin story for any show that i didn't like, there was nothing really special about it. I hoped there would but i felt nothing, no thrill of excitement or "The Oh My God that is so Cool" And it wasn't that i knew what would happen just the way they presented it was kinda just.

And the new Shredder, i hate his new look. I mean where's the ninja master Shredder i grew up with not Pajama wearing Shrdder (plus blade) If i wanted a cool crimelord in a skyskraper i go see the one and only Kingpin i fell in love with the character watching the Spider-Man cartoon he is just one of the coolest villians ever maybe its his voice i dunno but i love the Kingpin. Shrdder's not a crimelord he's a ninja master he should be leading the Foot or Dragons on the Street not sitting in his kimono sipping Tea. Like its the 3rd episode already lets see the Shredder.

Well thats my thoughts Anyway

The other thing i want is some mutants. It can't just be the Turtles and Splinter.

Karpo_007
02-23-2003, 03:49 PM
Yes it can. Like I have said, in original TMNT universe, the TMNT are something unique. Not an accident that gets repeated hundreds of times. Only other character that could be mutated same way would be Leatherhead. If you want random mutants in every ep, watch the old cartoon.

Of course, if it's just non human characters, the show could have pretty many of those. Like aliens, and even demons like Savanti Romero. And the foot will have a genetics lab, so we might see some freaks too...

Tokka-B
02-23-2003, 03:57 PM

Hey Mondo, I know what you are saying, and it does make sense, but keep one small thing in mind, nostalgia can play a very strong role in someone liking something from their childhood, despite its flaws, moreso than something that has stronger production value. As I read your post, I was indeed taken back to some of those more-entertaining episodes from the old toon. I used to watch them up until the middle of season 3ish, and then I was so turned off by the silliness that I retreated back to the comics (keep in mind that I was in junior high by then, so you can understand why it didn't entertain me as much). But I guess what I am saying, is that I go back and watch old movies that used to be "Magical" to me, and realize that they really weren't so hot "Last Starfighter". But because as a kid they marvelled me, they still hold more value than better-made movies that came out since then.

No offense Tokka, because I do respect your opinion, but something Karpo said makes sense. I think you decided that you were not going to like this cartoon before it aired. And now you are trying to justify this opinion by picking on things in the new show that very much existed in the old one. The old one had 0% plot (aside from the repetative "What will Shredder do today"). The enemies were clumsy and the Foot soldiers were robots that were trashed by non-ninja techniques "Trash can lid to the head anyone?" The turtles were goofballs that cracked jokes and used slapstick to defeat their enemies.

I remember the cartoon fondly despite its shortcomings, because in a way, I grew up with it as well, but now I can openly see that this new toon has a stronger sense of purpose, some less slapstick humor, a deeper plotline (that is serialized no less), and if the synopsis are anything to go by, a much better rollercoaster ride than the old one ever did.

Karpo_007
02-25-2003, 09:58 AM
Very good point. People like to remember the show better than it actually was. I can still fully enjoy the first season, 2nd and 3rd are good too. But after that the show gets too repeatitive. I will always like the old cartoon, but Im truly begining to love the new one.

Prowl you may be right you have some very good points about Nostalgia. Your right sometimes it does make things that almost are godlike back then shrink down in size to what it actually was. But that's not the case with me with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Watching old episodes again I love it every bit as much as I did when i saw it as a kid. This was the first version of the TMNT i ever saw and for me it will always be the real tmnt. And so its hard for me to see and like the turtles in their original light. When i first heard of Mirage I cringed in one way it was neat to see their original story but in the other way it presented me with the Darker turtles and the darker world they inhabitated. I world that i didn't like that much. I'm not much of a fan of the darker stuff it just dosen't do it for me, so maybe thats why Mirage dosen't do it for me either. The Mirage stories are good but there so diffrent from the turtles i know its hard for me to like em.

But everybodys got their diffrent slice of the turtle pizza, some like the darker mirage turtles and some people like the old show and its thing. I don't think it has much to do with nostalgia more to do with what everybody likes.

Karpo_007
02-25-2003, 04:14 PM
Try watching whole series in 6 months. You would be suprised how repeatitive it gets. I know I was.

I for one, am happy for the fact that TMNT is not just a goofy children's thing. As a kid I watched the cartoon and read archie, Now I watch the new show and read Mirage. It's nice that TMNT can be diffrent thing for diffrent ages.

I can tell you truly do enjoy the old show, Mondo. Which is why I respect your opinion on it. It doesn't seem like you are here to trash the new show in favor of the old one just for the sake of being the odd voice.. You just genuingly love the old show, and can accept the new one as well.

I still enjoyed it, and my friends and I still quote it quite a bit "You better, or else I'm going to get...sarcastic."

And it was the old show that set the theme for some great video games.

I'm curious to see how the new games will look, though.
