View Full Version : Now that FF is over...

How do you feel about it in hindsight? I don't think it sucks as much as I thought when it first began. It was just new...and different. Some parts of it (characterization, Raphael sounding like a whiny child, etc) WERE and still ARE pretty lame, but overall, it was an admirable idea.

What do you guys think??

I liked it. It was entertaining and that's what I look for in a show. There were parts I didn't like, but no show is perfect. No one was as annoying as other people would believe.

yea when it first aired i liked it because i was already so excited about it i didnt care to review it because it was ninja turtles. but now i cant stand to watch it because mikey is too immature, raph is a little whining baby who crashes a wrestling match, leonardo says weird and stupid kiddy phrases like "its ninja time!", and donny is just too alone and hardly comes out and is emotionless. the animation was straight out whack, the villains were stupid and it was just too stupid. they also walked right out in the opened and still thought they were "shadow ninjas". i mean, where's the fun in that? no shadowy figures leaping over rooftops and sneaking around and stuff. they worry too much for 4 and 5 year olds when there are older people watching tmnt. heck, im twelve and i watch the tmnt. they should just stick to comic book adaptions. 4kids is also stupid because as much a they though ff was going to bring in better rating and crap they shut out the ninja tribunal when that was a really good season. ninja tribunal wouldve got way more viewers if it wasnt for 4kids. i watched all the episodes of it only because i didnt want to miss any episodes and be confused in future seasons so i just had to watch all the episodes. the only decent episode it had was timing is everything. overall i think ff is really stupid and had no point, only to disapoint tmnt viewers. the theme song was good though.

Aw another person who wants comic adaptations even though they never read the comic. It doesn't make you a "cool" adult to like bad comic book adaptations. You want to see stuff from the comic read the comic the TV series needs to have nothing in common with it except characters.

Some parts of it were very bad (the horrible Raph wrestling episode against Triple Threat comes to mind), and others ranged from average to actually pretty good.

I think FF would have been better if the writers had more time to flesh it out instead of rushing it out the gate 1 year before it was suppose to air.

Overall though what's done is done, its now a part of TMNT history and its still firmly established in the show's canon, no matter how many future seasons there are.

Three things took place that made me break down and decide to watch all of these episodes.

1. The Ninja Tribunal season was released. When they played "Ninja Tribunal" the first time and then abandoned the rest of that story in favor of FF, it made me angry and I had no desire to watch what I felt was an unfair trade and what made another series I was deeply enjoying get sacrificed.

2. I read that the FF thing was not a permanent change and they would be coming back to the present and I'd need to know what happened in between season 5 and season 7.

3. I am a completist and felt it would annoy the crap out of me to have seasons 1 - 5 on dvd (once they release them all anyways) and then skip 6 and go straight to 7.

Overall, FF is not as bad now that those three things have occured. Now if they was still making FF, it would have still bothered me. I wouldn't have wanted to see FF continue on for another 26 episodes because it was still a big downgrade (in my opinion) from the previous seasons. But knowing that it will not be a ongoing thing, I can handle 26 episodes of this series. Now if BTTS proves to be like FF (or worse) then I will dislike that season and blame FF for messing up the original flow of things in the first place. However as long as BTTS brings back some of the feeling from the original 5 seasons, I will no longer blame FF like I once did. In fact, if the first couple episodes of BTTS were in the FF timeline in order to tie up some lose ends, I would actually find that to be a rather desirable outcome.

To me, the only good thing that came out of FF was Dark Leo and to some extent the other Dark Turtles (they didn't get as much character development so I can't really say how well they would have turned out). The rest was medicore, forgettable or horrible. None of the other new characters left a favorable impression on me and some I flat out hate (Tripple Treat, Starlee and her family, Constable Biggles, Torbin Zixx). Some episodes were good (DNA is Thicker Than Water, Timing is Everything), but the rest was often boring or bad. I hated every episode with Zixx, because the only way his character worked was by making the Turtles act like morons, just so he can trick them.

As for the guys themselves, Donny and Leo got totally shoved to the site, Raph got some of the spotlight, but it was mostly about Mikey. And a really annoying Mikey at that. Seriously, FF made me dislike Mikey since he was such an immature, unfunny dick in it (Clash of the Turle Titans, anyone?). And even when it looked like he was going to improve (Graduation Day), he just went back to acting like he did before and getting away with it (Race for Glory).

C'mon guys, how many "do you like FF or not" threads are we gonna have? S**t.

Exactly. s**t indeed!

But I may as well say what I always say. It really wasn't a bad show, so much a missed oppertunity. The 2 faults of the show where the over simplification of the characters (Mikey, Raph, and Splinter specifically) and the fact that the writers felt it would have gone past 26 episodes. (or it was nixed too early- whichever you believe).

They spent so many episodes establishing how different the future is, and the first 13 episode was mostly one shot episodes with major arcs only hinted at. Had the show gone on, even 13 episodes more, it would have been a fuller series.

And somehow, I feel that the entire subject would have worked better with the OT Turtles.

Gee, hasn't Mikey always been an immature, unfunny, dick? I like how people are splitting hairs about Mikey's behavior in FF like he never acted like that in seasons 1-5. Mikey's has always been an inconsiderate attention whore in the show and gotten away with his sh*t. Jeez there are times I'm watching Mikey and I'm just waiting for Splinter to break out the belt.

Last I checked, labeling people who prefer a darker season over a lighter one is a common example of bull-headedness.:P

It's not the fact FF sucked The Queen's marmalade testicles off of a cow's tage mahal of pat that I was bothered with, it was so many of it's fans generally parading it in our faces that it was some sublime peice of "fun" television in the midst of a deeply rooted and serialized show.

It's this kind of stupidity being rewarded that has slowly been a cancer to the comic industry...they know there getting something less, and they settle for it. Thank god 4Kids and Laird decided to do what few in that industry are doing and REALIZE that we knew something less had come along...and fixed things accordingly.

Same here. However, I'm chilled with the thought that we might be just receiving another version of Fast Forward with a different name. I don't think that will happen though, since from what I've seen it's looking pretty good and very promising. But you can't really say anything 'til you've seen an episode to see how it's storytelling and characters play out. I'll just sit patiently and wait though. I'm not giving up yet.

I like the NT....but the original 'toon has some elements that it can't touch. It feels more fun to watch, I think...less continuity and heaviness to storyline and so forth...

But honestly, i try tho think of TMNT in its purest sense, otherwise I risk not liking it as much at all, especially after seeing some of what I read here.

You know it is funny though this is the same thing that happened in the Mirage comics and yet no one complained about that, Splinter just sat around at that farm house forever sipping on tea and watching tv.
The point is they accomplished the mission Splinter had set out to do so there was nothing else for them to do.

Fast Forward was a really a great season. Yes the animation and presentation took a nose dive and yes most of the villains were generic and uninteresting but it still managed to be a fun show despite all that. You can clearly see by watching it that they were appealing even more toward the kid audience than the previous seasons but I felt that didn’t affect the quality of the series to an extent where FF was totally unwatchable.

One aspect of the show that was improved on was the comedy. I laughed a lot more during FF than any other season. Even the 4kids commercials for the show made me laugh. The fight scenes were also fun because the turtles seemed to show off more and you could see that they were somewhat more confident fighters. The highlights of the series were definitely the episodes that had Shoko, Bishop, and Darius in them. I also thought the last Dark Turtle episode was one of the top tmnt episodes. If given the chance I would really like to see the Dark tmnt and Darius in future episodes.

In hindsight I think it wasn’t the best the series had to offer but it was still a solid attempt at trying something different. It was basically what the press release said it would be. A lighter and funnier season. I would have defiantly liked to see another season or two. FF even managed to make me a fan of Mikey and I never thought that was possible since he was always my least favorite turtle.

Btw I'm trying to explain why people with apparent thick skulls can't seem to get or remember the fact of what just happened in the lost season prior to fast forward which makes their actions very reasonable.
People also seem to look past the fact that most of the characters actions are nothing brand new and have been acting this way through most of the new series, especially Mikey.
If you guys want me to start listing every single action Mikey and others have made to compair your complaints with their action on how you think they act differntly in on single flipping season of the show I will.
It's like allot of you are for what ever reason turning a blind eye to character past actions and flaws but can't get past them in this season, it seems like there's a more deeply rooted problem with people here than just character actions.
Because if that's the major gripe that's pretty pathetic as I said because it's nothing new and I will go to that length if that's what it takes to make peope shut up about it already.
As I've said a number of times you stop saying the same things over and over again I'll stop replying with a rebuttal.
Both sides have said what they've said about it how about we all just drop it.
If you folks want to keep bashing Fast Forward how about you start a thread for just FF haters and I'll make sure to stay out of it.

I'm just going to say this.

FF was a good concept that was burried under a bunch of ones that just didn't work. We can all agree on one thing. Playmates rushed the show into production, and the script structure shows it. They spent so much time establishing concepts and ideas, they lost the potential to develope any of the characters, concepts, possible story arcs. There wasn't any time, it seems. Had they taken the show piece by peice, and devided the series into 13 episode parts, they would have wittled down unneccisary episodes, and punched up conceptsk, and had a fuller experiance.

Most of the episodes, I felt, just seemed to be redundant. The ones centered on Mikey all said the same thing. he likes videogames and he's immature. I liked the Turtle Titan episode, myself, but it really seemed like Mikey was channelling Darkwing Duck. Of course, it was basically the "Tiff of the Titans" episode (of Darkeing Duck, where he's first pared with Gizmoduck) with a slightly dramatic twist at the end (which was more interresting than the rest of the episode).

Now, we can go around blaming ourselves, the creators, or the toy company for why it was prematurely cancelled, but the fact of the matter is, if they wanted things to have a more interresting turn, they should have done it sooner. Instead, we got a bunch of disconnected one shots. I have no problem with one shots. But with TMNT2k3, we had a recurring theme. Consequence. And all the episodes seemed to tie in together, even with just a recurring theme or image. While that happened to some extent, they could have stressed it, even in episodes like "Triple Threat" (I forgot the name).

What it boils down to is this... we didn't need an entire episode where we showed Starlee's Jewish stereotype parents. We didn't need entire episodes showing that Mikey's immaturity is mirrored by the villain. These concepts could have easily fit into a structured chain of events that had a huge pay off. And it all could have been open ended.

So to tell you the truth, I didn't hate FF at all. I just hate that it could have been more if more time was spent on it. Heck, I even kinda liked Biggles and Serling.

VaughnMichael
07-02-2008, 04:58 PM
Yeah but 2k3 was like that mostly for the simple fact that it was loosely going on Kevin and peter's work from the comic books, FF didn't have that and that seems to be another thing people forget.
Allot of these new fans like Jelly Bean don't know this because they haven't been long time fans like this and no Jelly I'm not picking on you, I'm jut using new fan who don't know all the tmnt universes as a good example.

I meant the fact that you named them after 'Dromers was hilarious. Sucks that you had 'em. Just like it sucks that I can't use a standard toothbrush without stabbing myself in the eye. But, funny is funny.

Enough with the personal attacks (such as the one I just deleted). Let's get this thread back on topic, or it will need to be locked.

Personally, I'd lock it. I think everything that had to be said was said. Plus we have a hundred more FF threads.

I'm going to agree with everyone here. In the process of speaking opinions on frankly a dead issue, we're still throwing the same rocks at each other.

FF is gone. Some people liked it, some people didn't. It's time to focus on BTTS, and look to the future. Not wallow around in the past with Coulda Shoulda Woulda.

I agree with this being locked, every FF thread that pops up turns into mud slinging. And I think a bit more respect between drome members needs to be established as well. I've lost count how many times I've seen "noob" thrown around as a general put down to new members in this thread and others.
