what are every ones thoughts on there being super heros in the turtles universe in the 4KIDs series? Do you like that there are super beings like the turtles in the show or do you think it takes away from the turtles? Do you like the episodes that have turtles with super heros, like the justice force?

I hate it. It just takes away from the turtles for me. It just makes the show just that much more less realistic and more cartoony.

I'm also not a fan, yeah you're in a fictional world but for each world you have different sets of suspension of disbelief and I don't think they blend well.

It also doesn't help that they seem to be just rip-off/parodies of well known heroes...

actually I kind of find that part funny. Silver Sentry=Superman, Nobody=Batman, ect. But I do sometimes find the superhero based episodes really corny, but then I guess that is somewhat intentional too since all the superheros talk with dramatic cliched voices.:lol:

I think it was done well.

The first season was more realistic, so we only got one Super Hero episode, featuring Silver Sentry.

The second season had another Super Hero episode, but since this season was wayyy more science fictiony, getting into the origins of the Turtles and Shredder, they were free to use the Justice Force without it being a stretch of internal logic.

Then at the beginning of Season Three, with the Triceraton Invasion, any ties to realism were essentially cut, and they were free to use the Justice Force as often as they liked, and I think they did it well, too, by bringing characters into it later that you might not think of, like Raptarr and Nobody.

Seriously, people say the inclusion of Super Heroes takes away from the realism, but really, the entire second and third seasons did that. People just don't complain because Season Two and Three were farking awesome.

meh, I could take 'em or leave 'em. I don't particulary care for all super hero based episode because of the corny factor in them is so high. It does to a degree make it seem like the turtles insistence to stay in the shadows a bit bull headed and unessacary, because there are weird people who can fly and shoot lazer beams from their eyes about who are accepted and looked up too by the city; why would four martcial arts trained mutants be so beyond humanites scope that they wouldn't be accepted too?

It kind of makes Splinter's speeches of "humanity won't accept you" speals carry less weight and almost comes off like an excuse to keep the turtles doing the whole "shadow warrior" thing and living the whole life style that he wants them to live. Kind of making the whole "stay in the shadows" less nassasary because they are other weird beings out there like them and they have the societes esteem, and makes there situatuion seem less dire. Like living in the shadows is more of a life choise based on tradition rather than nessasity.

I like nobody, I think of any of the Super heroes he is a good fit because he is a little like Batman. He doesn't have "super Powers" He is just passionate and smart about what he does. I think that fits in with the Turtles.

The other heroes are okay, I mean a lot of them show up in the comics too so I just accept that they are part of the same Universe. We have aliens and mutants already why not super heroes?
I am just glad they don't show up constantly, they only seem to show up when the situation really calls for it. The turtles always come out the heroes anyway so they aren't really getting overshadowed.
I always kind of thought the Turtle Titan idea was cute and appropriate. I mean why not dream of being a super hero when you are already a Mutant?

It's not a big deal, but I don't like it at all since they run about and are public... which means the turtles could easily do the same thing. The first one was fine, but when they were all on the news fighting the invasion, that was so corny. Another thing that I hate about them is that there damn near all rip-offs (Silver Sentry= Superman, Nobody=Batman, Zippy-lad=The Flash, Raptaar=Hawk Man, Battling Bernice=Wonderwoman) except like Stainless Steve and Metalhead.

The funny thing is that they dont take away from the turtles, they make them look better. 99% of the time the heroes need the turtles help or need to be saved.
As for whether I like the episodes that feature heroes I usually do. The best one was probably Nobody's Fool.

to be honest the inclusion of the super heros in the new toon just seems like an excuse to give Mikey something to be interested in and give him a shot at having some solo episodes that focus on him and his character. Most super hero episodes are Mikey centric and how wants to be like them and looks up to them.

Episode content seems to be pretty slanted in a particular turtle. Plot driven dramatic episodes feature Leo, sci-fi techno stuff feature Don heavily, and Hard hitting all out brawling episodes ushaully feature Raph (if the others would aren't in it too)

I think I would like the super heros in the show better if it was handled more like a contrast to the turtles situation and how they have to hide because their diffrent and how the super heros who are also diffrent get to be out in the open.

I feel that the TMNT and the Foot (being ninja), the Utroms (being top secret), and the Triceratons (being far away) work so well (and make the show unique) because the public doesn't know of their existence, which makes it some sort of plausible that this could all be going on in the shadows of the real world (which, of course, it couldn't), while things such as superheroes (excluding Nobody, who appears to be unknown to the public, and possibly, if pushing it really hard, the first appearance of the Justice Force, when they seemed to be forgotten by the public) remove the show further from reality, making it just like any other superhero show, where the public is aware of all the weird things that go on.

I don't mind the super heroes as characters onto themselves, but they don't really fit into the show. As other said, if people are used to the likes of Silver Sentry and the Justice Force, how come the TMNT can't run around? It also makes you wonder were these super heroes are all the time when the guys have to save the day, especially when they could do it so much faster and easier. The only one that fits is Nobody since he has no super powers, he just does what the turtles do.

ughhh, I knew there had to be a reason why I didn't like the super hero presence in the show. It gives Mikey another thing to be annoying about. Seriously I know that Mikey is just a teenager and all, but does any one think that his infatution and actual desire to be one is a little juvinile even for him? Shouldn't he have grown out of the make believe phase by now? Why does he even want to be a superhero any way? He's practically living the life of a superhero as it is.

Thats kind of the irony of it isn't it? Mikey is almost living the life of a super hero but he still wants to be like them and join the justice force. But the I think the main reason he wants to be a super hero is because they get to do every thing out in the open instead of hiding like he does, and get credit and praise for what they do. That's pretty much why he created the turtle titan persona so he can do that.

I'm kinda iffy on the idea of the superheroes being in the same universe the guys.

On one hand, it does kinda pull away some "realism" (in a story about ninja turtles), but on the other hand: Can you Imagine the NYC Budget Meetings with allllll the superheroes that live in New York/NYC/Manhattan/Metropolis/Gotham City?

TMNT
Superman/Silver Sentry
Batman/Nobody
Fantastic Four/Justice League/Justice Force
Spiderman
Hulk
Daredevil
X-men
Captain America

My god, with all the rebuilding that city has to do in all these universes, you'd think they'd've either go bankrupt or charge the heroes with cleanup costs...!

You know, I think I'll actually disagree with y'all and take the opposite position: I think that having super-heroes in the turtles-verse add quite a bit to the show.

First of all, I don't get the argument that the existence and acceptance of super-heroes means that the turtles would be accepted if they too came out in the open. Not only does it ignore the fact that most of the Justice Force looks human while the turtles, um, don't.

I also don't see how the argument that they the 'verse less realistic holds any water. This is an universe with aliens, time travelers, demons, high technology, and mutant turtles: how are super-heroes less realistic than all of these?

Personally, I like having a bunch of guys more powerful than the turtles; it keeps the series grounded. And while the first few episodes featuring them weren't stellar, they've been around long enough that the series would be much poorer without them.

Because the superheroes are publicly known. If the general public knows about paranormal or otherwise comicbooky things, that makes said general public completely different from the real-world general public, thus making the very 'verse of which you speak less relatable. It works fine for some fictional universes, such as for example the DC and Marvel superhero universes, as most of their leads are publicly known, but when the central characters are unknown to the public, it just works better if every otherworldly aspect of the 'verse in question is equally unknown. It's not about superheroes being less realistic than ninja turtles. It's about the line between the every day normal world that people know about and the secret world of mutants and ninjas and aliens and all that. Without that line, the fantasy becomes slightly but significantly less believable. Now, in accordance with the Rule of Cool, there are obviously exceptions - ideas so amazingly awesome that they're worth sacrificing this precious line for. However, I would argue that generic superhero pastiche characters designed only to highlight Mikey's increasingly exaggerated immaturity are not it.

how does liking super heros make Mikey immature, he's a teenager and lots of teenagers like super heros. In my school there is actually a Star Wars and DC Comics club where kids get together and dress up like their favorite characters and organize functions together. Mikey's love of super heros seems pretty typicial of his age.

True, Mikey wanted to be a superhero cause he wanted to be out in the open, be publicaly appreciated for his actions, be in the limelite a little, and also do good deeds for the hell of it, and not just only if it involved them directly.

But yeah.. the superheroes do kinda take away from the show. The first time I saw Silver Sentry and the turtles acted all like 'oh, it's him' as if he was already known and was no big deal, I was like... wtf? did I miss something here...?

But at the same time... having already established the JF and Nobody, one can't help but wonder where the hell are they when the big stuff was goin on, so seeing them on the news doing their thing wasn't too unrealistic by that time.

I think Super heroes represent to Mikey his ideal of being a warrior that makes a difference with out all the dark harsh unpleasant stuff that goes along with being a ninja. I mean from Mikey's point of view he must recognize the difference between him self as a warrior that of super heroes. And the difference really is this: Super Heroes like Silver Sentry are so powerful that they can take on an enemy and get the job done with out killing the enemy since they are easily more powerful. For Super heroes it’s all very black and white. Super hero’s good, villains bad; very cut and clean with no ethical dilemmas; thats a big diffrence to Mikey's life as warrior that is filled with dangerous battles where he or his brothers might not make it out of a battle or its kill or be killed and lots of gray situations where it usually boils down to the lesser of two evils. All the while having to keep to the shadows and have no pay off for the harsh realities he has to endure.

In the Unconvincing Turtle Titan episode Mikey pretty much learns that he can do more good from the shadows as a ninja instead of a super hero. So you would think the whole wanting to be a super hero thing would be resolved. But in later episodes it’s shown that Mikey is still hanging on to his superhero alter ego even though he knows that he does more good as a ninja. I think this shows how even though in his head he understands he is a ninja but he doesn't want to altogether give into that reality and hold on to the innocence and simplicity that being a super hero represents.

Superheros in the show could be used for some good writing if done in a way where the diffrences between the the super hero and the ninja are explored and not used for corny "lets have a cliched super hero" episodes that are just flashy.

My point still stands on why I don't like superheroes but I wanted to mention I have no problem with "Turtle Titan" as he's just a vigilante basically, kind of like Casey Jones or Raph in the movie. FF Turtle Titan was also not that much of a problem since he didn't have powers. Nobody doesn't work even if he has no powers because he's a straight Batman rip-off with horrible puns and goofy costume.

Liking superheroes doesn't necessarily automatically make anybody immature. However, the way they've been doing it on the show, the superheroes seem to be there only to highlight Mikey's immaturity. Note that in the real world, there are no superheroes, so liking imaginary superheroes is a completely different thing than idolizing real superheroes and wanting to be like (or with) them. Mikey's love for superheroes on the show is more like a thirteen year old girl's obsession with Justin Timberlake than anything else. It highlights his immaturity, and that seems to me to be the point. Unfortunately.

Nobody doesn't work even if he has no powers because he's a straight Batman rip-off with horrible puns and goofy costume.

It's called a parody, which if you remember is what Turtles is at it's core. He's been around since 1987 and hasn't been in the comics since the 90's when he was killed off in a single panel with almost zero reaction from any of the turtles.

Not that I'm a fan of the super heroes in the series myself but I honestly don't see what any of you are complaining about. Most of you preach you want the series to be more like the comic book, well I hate to break it to you but there's super heroes in the comic book too. The first issue being #15 released in 1988, which they adapted into an episode in season 2, can't remember the title off the top of my head.

I also find it funny you guys complain about Mikey so much. He's supposed to be the annoying immature character. In the series that's almost his sole purpose for existing. He's either the super moral one who helps them do the right thing or he's comic relief. If you read the comics none of the turtles really have any personality. They all yell "Kick ass!" and beat crap up. That's really the depth of them. So to preach you want more character development, but also for the series to be more like the comic is like a double edged sword. If you change a comic book story too much for an episode you get a piece of crap like most of the comic adaptations, in my opinion. But then again if you don't change it then you'd have some paper thin characters.

The differences in the turtles gets greater as volume 1 goes on but I almost feel the personalities were created more by the old cartoon and re-worked to fit the Mirage setting in the comics later on.

I think this is what Mikey fans biggest gripe is. I think Mikey hangs onto to the turtle titan thing because it allows him to be an indivdual or his own person rather than a memember of the team that debately has more important or influncial members than he is. I think that is why Mikey's seemed to take it so personaly that Silver Sentry's Grandson was useing his persona that he created. How Mikey acted in that stupid Turtle titan episode in FF was disgraceful even for Mikey, he has no right at all to go off on the guy the way he did. I can't be the only one who thought Mikey's actions in this FF episode where horriable? I don't think it was even about "copy right infringment" or what ever it was that Mikey was claiming, I think it more about being jealous of the guy because he was much better at being turtle titan than he was, which makes him even more selfish.

I Agree, Mikey should have been glad someone wanted to honor his crappy alter ego.

Anyways I don't mind there being superheroes. To me it just makes the Turtles seem more bad ass. Why? To me the Supers are all very cliched and overpowered(the exception being Nobody I kinda liked him), and they still can't get the job done(Triceraton Invasion, Tengu Shredder). The turtles are runts in terms of Superheroes, but they still end up kicking ass and saving the day. Four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are able to do something that a GROUP of super powered individuals is just aewsome in my eyes. Kinda gives the message that you don't have to be born a hero to do herioc things. That's the end of my rant.

Realism? In a comic about an alien race of brain people accidentally mutating a bunch of turtles, a gator, and a rat that become instantly fluent in human languages?

I chose that I don't care for them. I would like to be interested in the group a little further, but Laird never really delved into the group in the comics or in a cartoon series. To be honest, I think it would be interesting if Laird decided to give the group a chance and give them a series of their own, further helping us connect with these characters. They're an interesting bunch, no doubt; but they just seem like lifeless dolls to me right now. Enjoying superheroes, to me, is more than just knowing their abilities, but also their personalities, backgrounds, emotions and struggles. We don't really get a lot of that from them, and that's the only reason I feel the guys are sorta misplaced (or misused, perhaps).

Realism? In a comic about an alien race of brain people accidentally mutating a bunch of turtles, a gator, and a rat that become instantly fluent in human languages?

Well I can't quote you, but everywhere you look people are going on and on about how "real" Nolan's Batman movies are, when that movie features a bunch of ninja running around bringing justice to the world. Do you know why no one thinks it's rediculous? Because within the movie 99% of the world has no idea they exist.

So if no one know's about the turtles it allows the viewer to think "hey, this could happen and we wouldn't know about it". Then when you have these sorry JLA knock off's saving the world, no one thinks that could happen.

I'm not saying the realism automatically equals a good show, or that a zany show can't be good, but that was just one of the neat things about the NT and it was seriously compromised by the Justice Force.

In the mirage comics was Mikey obsessed with superheros and the Justice Force like he is in the cartoon, does he he his turtle titan alter ego in the comics and try to be like Silver Sentry?

Silver Sentry has yet to appear in the comics. Raptarr is one of the main characters tho (he appeared in Vol 4 before appearing in the animated stuff) and the original JF members live on the farm in Massachusetts (mostly Stainless Steel Steve and Metal Head. And Possably Mr. Braunze...he's a telepath). I think it was Metal Head (who talks like a proper British Butler) who found Splinter's body.

Zippy Lad runs a series of secret hospitals for super heroes. There are several around the world with the main one of course being in NYC. Free medical care for heroes....which helps the TMNT.

The episode "Return of the Justice Force" is straight out of the comics.

There's no Turtle Titan in the Mirage books.

so, turtle titan wasn't in the comics then. Ok then, I thought that maybe the "Unconvincing Turtle Titan" episode might have been a comics adapted episode, since Mikey keeps mentioning his alter ego and brings it up in the "reality check" episode which was from what I understood adapted from the comics. :ohwell:

Nope Mikey never had a storyline like that in the comics but hey who know they could toss it in tales and then say he did.

Well in the comics the first Super Turtles issue was actually based on TMNT Vol 1 issue 1.

In the issue "Return of the Justice Force" (an issue of Tales of The TMNT) at the beginning one of the turtles is in costume (doesn't say which of the turtles it is tho) but that's the closest thing.

really? I thought there was an issue where Mikey has a dream that he's in a place where every one is a superhero. :-?

There are the Super Turtles in the recent vol. 4 issue and tales of tmnt vol. 2 but not in the old comics.
The Super Turtles are from a parallel dimension btw not in the same one as the turtles we know.

I don't think "reality check" was really adapted from the comics... plus none of the adaptions are straight adaptions so even if it were an adapted ep that wouldn't mean anything.

I just rewatched Membership Drive and Nobody seems to have become a member of the "force". Does any one think that Nobody being a member is pretty lame? It makes him more generic to me. Nobody got his life ruined by that Ruffington character and became nobody as a symbol of his life being torn apart. He has that whole tragic angst angle working for him. Him becoming a memeber of "the force" kinda of wrecks that.

Maybe he's a part timer like Batman?? Nobody's supposed to be the Batman of the series and the comics shown in 2105 showed him even with a sidekick.

He's also in "The Journal" as a member of the JF.
