View Full Version : OT Shredder VS Live-Action Film Shredder
Darth Shredder

Damn. They both have so much in the area of awesome that there's no clear winner objectively. The OT Shredder has the voice of Uncle Phil, a sense of humor, is a technological genius, and a superb combatant. He's sorta ineffective when it comes to defeating the turtles... :ohwell: ... BUT he does understand how to annoy and hinder them! That's worth some points.
The live-action Shredder is a badass through-and-through. He takes himself and life in general very seriously, is about as masculine as a man can get, and beats the hell out of the four turtles with a notably fluid ease. This Shredder answers to NOBODY! There's no way this version would even take orders from a pink brain warlord from another dimension. That razor-studded ensemble attests to his fine taste in fashion, and it is as menacing as his gruff voice.
My vote goes to the live-action Shredder, though they are both great.

Those were pretty good analyses, Darth. Honestly, after reading them and thinking about it, I really can't choose. But, in the end, for me, it comes down to longevity. Movie Shredder died, while toon Shredder didn't. Plus, toon Shredder had more battles and had cooler thugs, though movie Shredder had Tokka and Rahzar... and even mutated himself!
But, toon Shredder wore a raincoat. He wins.

I prefer the movie Shredder, esp from TMNT I. His entrance, with the booming percussion, is even more bad ass than Darth Vader's. That says a lot.

I prefer the live-action Shredder. Before discovering the comics that it was based off of, I always preferred the way things were portrayed in the first movie over anything else. So, like everything else in the first movie, that Shredder was "my" Shredder. The only thing the OT had to offer that was never in the first movie was the Technodrome. Still, the east warehouse on Lairdman Island was good enough for me.

Movie Shredder definitely.
Cartoon Shredder had his moments, but he was pretty much a whiny second in command to Krang.
Movie Shredder was both badass and kind of scary. He was a lot more intimidating, and seemed like more of a threat to the Ninja Turtles since he was able to take on all four at once. He was also just plain evil, with the way he treated Splinter and lied to the turtles about killing him.

OT Shredder is THE Shredder.
Movie one was fine, but he was not as shredderly as the cartoon one.

I couldn't be afraid of the OT Shredder but the movie Shredder is not someone I would want to cross. I mean he captures poor Splinter and I know its a movie and puppets and yadda yadda but movie Shredder is cruel.
The OT Shredder tries his best but never quite gets anywhere with his evil schemes. I also just have to laugh how he gets pushed around by Krang. I don't think movie Shredder would be quite so easy to control. If I had to pick a Shredder who was more Shredder-like I would have to say the movies.
Don't get me wrong though, I love the OT Shredder for what he is, he is kinda my comic relief version of Shredder with a bit of villany mixed in

While I still love both, it's film Shredder for me. Although he's presumed dead, I seriously doubt a pier falling on him would be fatal.
Especially when he's, you know, Super.
I've been finding it hard to take OT Shredder seriously since the day I found out he was Uncle Phil. I've been expecting him to toss Bebop or Rocksteady out a door...

The first live action Shredder hands down is the best. There can't be, and never will be a better incarnation of the Shredder from the original comics than this one. Everything about this live action Shredder has a very sinister aspect to it. The suit, voice, etc. is so badass. This picture shows that this is personally my favorite scene of the movie. John Du Prez's "Shredder's Suite" score definitely set the tone of the scene as well.

Hehehe...I've kind of felt the same way b/c I can't help laughing at the thought of Uncle Phil chasing Will around the house wearing the Shredder's helmet and a fork in his hand. :P

I had to go with OT Shredder. He's just awesome...slightly inept, but he's my favorite :) Though, movie Shredder is very badass! It was a hard choice. I like them both!
as badass as Live Action Shredder is he doesn't really do all that much so OT shredder wins by default.

Two points I'd like to make:
1) He's the leader, and as such delegates to his minions. That's what they're there for, to do stuff.
2) He was seriously kicking the Turtles' shells and was about to off Leo before Splinter showed up. Was there more he was supposed to do?
Or were you referring to their respective action figures?* :trazz:
* Disclaimer: I have no idea what the Shredder action figures are like for the cartoons, movies, concert, et cetera. I was just trying to be a smart ass.

I was going to look for a really badass image of the movie Shredder and make a witty comment, but I got Rule 34'd and then I found this. It really doesn't need a comment to be funny.

He doesn't really talk much or seem to have much personality or purpose. The fight scene while kinda cool is also lackluster, the turtle suits probably being the problem but yeah, if you did not know who Shredder was before watching the movie you'd think he's kind of lame.

Hi-diddly-ho, turtle-eenos! I hope you said a prayer to those that care, because it's time to play, "Destroy the Infernal Abomination!" Now stand still while I send you down to the devil's workshop with my handy-dandy anti-mutagen gun!

I would totally say the opposite. True, he doesn't talk much, but that doesn't mean he doesn't "do" anything. As for purpose, I think he has a purpose. He's operating a secret group of ninja fighters and teenage hoodlums, who are behind a massive crime wave. Some mutant freaks are interfering, and he comes to find out they are linked to his rival from back in Japan, thus making it personal. Seems like those're some good motivators & purposes.

The turtle suits may have impeded movement for the fight scenes, but considering it's a kids movie they couldn't go too graphic or violent anyway. Combine that with human physical limitations and they probably pretty much did the best they could do.
That's just your opinion. You're coming to it with a knowledge of Shredder beforehand, so that influences your viewpoint. We could post a poll, however...

Actually, if I saw the movie before the cartoon, I'd think the cartoon Shredder was kinda lame because all he does is whine and insult the mutants.
However, the other way around, I just think OT Shredder is funny (most of the time).

Movie Shredder. First movie anyways. Just something about how he made his grand entrance. His walk, the way the music was carefully selected to represent him. The way his followers nelt beside him and uncloaked his armor. The way the armor glinted in the headlamps. The way he talked to his people.
I dont even remember much of anything at all about the OT Shredder. I just remember him complaining to Bebop and Rocksteady all the time.

As much as I love 'toon Shredder, I have to choose movie Shredder. His armor looks like something a human could wear (how does toon Shredder breathe and where is his nose?) and he was less of abumbling moron and more like the ninja master he is supposed to be. I mean he whipped the Turtles' asses after all single handedly. Toon Shredder was more cowardly, mainly having Rocksteady and Bebop fight while he slips away.
