View Full Version : Which Turtle does April have the most/least chemistry with?

Realize that I'm talking about chemistry overall, and not exclusively romantic. Romance can play a part, if you believe you're mature enough to handle that. Most posters on this forum are down-to-earth adults so I see that as being not too big of an issue.
There's different Aprils, so there is bound to be more than one answer. This will be interesting.
Mirage Comics:
Classic Toon:
Original Live-Action Film:
2k3:
TMNT (2007):
I shall go meditate like Master Splinter for my personal answers. :P

I think that April shows the most chemistry with Donatello in all of the TMNT incarnations.

Well, they aren't always the easiest comics to find. Although now they are available on the official site.
Anyway:
Mirage: Hard to tell, it seems about even among all of the Turtles. From what I've read, she seems to get along with all of them just the same.
Old toon: Once again, it seems like she gets along with all of them equally.
Movie: Definitely Raphael. He seemed to get the most focus out of all of the turtles in that movie, and he's the one that came to her rescue.
As for another version of April, how about Archie? Once again, I'm bad at being able to tell which one she had the most chemistry with.

In the 4KIDS cartoon I would say Donatello because he crushes on her and she really likes him.
In the new movie I would Leo because she knew what to say to get him to consider coming home.

Most: Don
Least: Raph even in TMNT1, cos he never really talks to her even tho is obvious he has a crush on her. He might've come to help her but there was a very small amount of chemistry...they decided not to explore their friendship. can't have the freak x human crap i guess...

of course I have, it's just that April seems to have a pretty equal relationship with all of them in Mirage.
least chemistry:
Classic Toon: Raphael
Original Live-Action Film: maybe Michaelangelo
2k3: Raphael (only because he is closest to Casey)
TMNT (2007): Michelangelo and Raphael

I think April was pretty taken by Mikey in the first live-action movie. She thought his movie impersonations were hilarious. (As did I! "Maybe I'll fight Apollo and maybe I won't)
Mikey: "You dirty rat, you killed my brother...
Raph: "Not Cagney!"
April: "That must be Splinter's favorite!"
(All star awkwardly at April with puzzeled looks)
April: "It was a joke!"
(All laugh)

Can you imagine Splinter finding that charming? I can. He's always obsessed with "making funnies" himself, so I'm sure he's proud to pass his humor onto his sons.

Only time I really noticed her coming off as one was in the OT, at least when it comes to a news story. She was RE-He-He-he HEALLY cutthroat a lot of the times. not as bad as Vernon, but still pretty bad.
Anyway, I'd say she was closer to Donatello when she was a scientist, since they seem to be like peers. So she definately has the most chemestry with him in 2k3.
In the 2007 movie, she was closest to Leo, at least in that Jungle sequence. Most of the movie, she was with Casey. But I need to see it again.
In the OT, it seems even. Mostly with Leo, a couple times with Don... but she seemed to be like the big sister/ surrogate mother for the turtles.
As for least, I'd say in almost everything it was Raph. Not on the part of April mind you. Raph (in the movies, comic, and 2k3) was pretty distant and cold.

I have too much respect for April's character in any universe to believe she would intentionally try to come across as hurtful or disrespectful to Splinter and the Turtles (except for the OT "Turtle Tracks" ep, yikes!). I think Hoag's April was just trying to be funny like the Turtles and those hams just didn't get it.

2K3- Oh yeah Donatello is her favorite of the guys. I think of them as best friends or maybe as romactic intrests.
Archie- Its been years since I read these books but if I remember correctly I'm going to say Michelangelo. Although I remember Splinter and her haveing more chemistry though.
Mirage- I dont get to read as much Mirage I like to and the stuff I do read April oddly enough doesn't seem to have much of an impact. From what I have seen I'm going with Donatello and Michaelangelo.
Movies- I'm going with Mike. they always seemsed to to have fun. Mike's crush was funny and he was always trying to get her attention.
Original Toon- to tell the truth I cant really remember. I never really thought she had one that she worked best with.
TMNT 07- Leo that talk with him in the jungle pretty much does that really its hard to judge since we only got one movie and she didn't interact with the guys all that much. That and Mike and Don not getting really much focase at all makes it really hard.

I always felt that April and Leonardo in the orginal toon had the most chemestry since Leonardo seemed just as determined and mature as April was. Plus they seemed to have alot of solo adventures together. Second would be Donatello and April.
New toon, Don and April is a no brainer, with leo running up.

in the 4KIDS cartoons I'd say Don and April are closest, and I actually don't see any jealousy from Don over April and Casey. If Don has a thing for April he is not very dedicated to her, because he gets close to every throw away guest star female character that shows up.

I think Don accepts that Casey and April are an item and that because he's not human he couldn't be with her any way, so he puts it from his mind. Actually if I where to really look at this I would say that Casey would most likely be jealous of Don and April's relationship than the other way around.

Original TMNT: Mikey. The two had a real rapport with one another that was relatable. Watch some episodes again and he comes off as the sanest Turtle of the bunch around her, he's a mirror for her real-world life when she's part of a more fantastic world with more extravengent characters. There's a case Raph is as down to earth as Mikey, but he barely mingled with April enough to make it noticable.
New Series: W Donatello. They both love each other, but the whole species thing kind of obstructs it. Whilst Don could be frustrated, he's managed to have a relationship with her that refreshingly isnt complicated by intimacy. Those two can legimiatley have a spiritual love story between them which doesnt get in the way of April's needs. She loves Don and Casey and has the best of both worlds.
Raph falls through the cracks in every canon...I think he ought to have been paired with Shadow in the MIRAGE comics, but banging your surrogate neice is a little below-the-cuff...it's a shame Laird waited until 2007 to finally pair Turtles up with humans.

wow, I never thought I'd see it said that Mikey comparatively saner than the other turtles. I'm suprised some one said that, maybe it's because I'm fairly new to the 80's toon, but I haven't noticed any significant interaction with April and Mikey. I always thought in all mediums that Mikey has the least rapport with April because of his maturtity level. Can you point out some instances with April and Mikey where there is good rapport?
Also I oticed that 80's Raph has the least amount of rapport with any body. :-?

"Pizza By the Shred"- Mike comes over to April's apartment alone and she does him a favor by delivering his pizza, which is then stolen by the Rat King.

"Return of the Technodrome" has Mikey sort of answering April's reaction to being the only 100% human amongst the others, he had his hand on her shoulder when they were laughing. I didnt notice it years ago, but now that I do, it's sort of cute
"Turtles, Turtles, Everywhere", the one with the mother Turtle being liberated at the conclusion and April noticing Mikey was crying.
And "Adventures in Turtlesitting" had Mikey and April looking after infant, regressed versions of the Turtles, bonding sort-of like parents. This episode was probably the biggest indication Mikey could have been the leader if he was motivated enough like he was here, because he's quite serious about the responsibility.

Who said anything about banging anybody, ZariusTwo?
Anyway, Mirage, especially older Mirage: Leonardo. In newer Mirage, possibly Don.
Movie 1: She has good interactions with all of them ... I guess Raph, but they don't talk much for some reason. Maybe Raphie was shy.
Movie 2: Mikey?
Movie 3: ?
Movie 4: Leo.
Old toon: I'd say Mike, or all of them.
New toon: Obviously Don, although Don, for all his crushing on her, never seems to be very jealous of Casey. But i like the double entendre of Casey's "That's my girlfriend, and YOU CAN'T HAVE HER!" in Adventures in Turtle-Sitting.

mm, I just don't see what you are saying about OT Mike and April. All those instances you mentioned just seemed like the luck of the draw that Mikey and April had any interaction. April seemed like she had more interaction with Don and Leo than Mike like episodes with April and Leo together in Unidentified fly Leonardo, Leonardo vs. Tempestra, and Leonardo, Renisance Turtle, where they has alot of interaction. Or episode with Don, like the Maltese Hamster.

you know I think I see what you are saying about this, their rapport was more subtle in that they kind of share a crazy existanse but are both grounded people surounded by zany characters; with the diffrence that April kind of stumbled upon it and Mike was just born into it. I think for Michaelangelo, April served as sort of a stable humanised influence in his other wise "far removed from normality" life. And for April Mike sort of served as a counter balance to the craziness that was him and the turtles and actually act as voice of reason on occassion to her. A good indication of this is in the Gang's All Here, and then later his reaction to April villifying him and the turtles on television, I think he had the most WTF reaction to her broadcasts.

I can see what you mean by April being a grounded person in a zany setting, but how exactly is Mike grounded or even a voice of reason to April? Michelangelo was part of the zaniness that April was thrust in and kind of responciable with the other turtles for the dangerous situations she found her self in.
On a unrealated not, which turtle do you think has the most rapport with Irma or Vernon?
The turtles barely tolerated Vernon and had a generally low opinion of him, especially in Red Sky when he started spreading propaganda on them. Irma, I agree with ZariusTwo that Don had the most rapport with her.

Mikey was the catalyst a lot of the time. Which is a reason she might like him over the others. If April didn't enjoy those dangerous adventures, she would've stopped hanging with them; but she liked excitement, and liked being saved.

True, but by the later seasons she had matured considerably and wanted to avoid The Turtles and be more independent of them, either for her own sake or she was reaching her mid-thirties (assuming she was in her mid twenties when the series began) and that's usually the age where you really ought to start taking the Mommy thing seriously.
Mikey was also maturing right around then also.

Well like in The Gangs all Here Michaelangelo patiently tried to talk April out of her scheme of going under cover as a gang memeber because she wanted to get the scoop on inner city crime, and warned her that they where bad news. That's what I mean that he acted as a voice of reason to April.
Also I noticed that of the turtles he seemed to mind the least about having to rescue April and didn't show as much irritation. The other always seemed to express some kind of reservation about doing it or had some kind of comment eighther too or behind April's back when having to save her.

why did she start distancing her self from them? I know we could say that she was maturing but didn't she have a falling out with the turtles that caused her to want to be independent of them?

There was no real "falling out" displayed, but her whole world had changed by then. Channel Six had been destroyed, her former co-workers were barely operational, all of them vanished, including her closest friend Irma. The Turtles were her only family, but at the same time, they had sort of robbed her of her extended family due to their wars with Shredder. I don't think April was bitter, she still loved The Turtles, and only went after them once...and that alone was probably due to her wanting to be non-biased as a reporter for once...which you have to be if you want to be succesful.
April obviously made a career decision as a reporter , and her later distancing from the Turtles was because she was simply getting older.

I think her character being distanced from the turtles was because of Carter's presence too. Maybe she felt she had been replaced and dicided to do her own thng to fill the gap in her life the turtles filled.

add to the fact the turtles were mutated out of control and consider april bad history with other out of control mutants she wanted to distance herself from them fearing they were two dangerous to hang around with.
