I would like to know what peoples opinions are of the ninja turtle's long time and most prominent foes, the Foot Clan. How have they been treated and developed throughout their various incarnations, and what future directions would they like to see taken with them.

As much as I love the OT the foot clan was pretty lame in that version. I mean they where just mindless robots and they wheren't even all that powerful.

I think the medium that gave the foot clan the best portrayal was the first live action movie. they where human they where threatening and they acted like ninjas. Plus they even had a really cool ninja general Tatsu.

I have to agree...they were very lame as robots. When I saw the first movie, I was so happy they were real guys! I understand having them as robots was easier so no one was really hurt or killed, but still...they were so lame!

I liked the OT Foot. They were kind of symbolic in the essence of what foot soldiers virtually are: mindless henchmen that carry out orders without question or a second thought. However, I do prefer the human version from the comics and films. Speaking of the comic, I've been out of touch with it lately and the last I saw, the Foot were being led by Karai and helping the Utroms, much to the chagrin of Leonardo. I don't know what happened since then.

The only thing I can think of that I would like to see happen in the future would be an uppity Foot climb the ranks and try to take over. You know, create some dissension in the order and put some pressure on Karai (maybe with some derision to boot).

I like the Foot better as people, however it made sense for them to be robots in the OT.

Robot Foot soldier create wonderful opportunities for massive destruction and explosions. A great shortcoming of the OT was the limited use of foot soldier in battle. We needed more swordslicing and explosions!

One thing I always have wondered is if the Foot robots in the 1987 are remote-controlled or some kind of mindless artificial intelligence. They always followed Shredders and Krangs order and no remote control was seen.

Most likely had mild computer-intelligence. Since one episode had Krang try to improve a Foot Soldier's computer-mind, ending up with the rogue super-intelligent Foot Soldier Alpha-1.

That was "The Foot Soldiers are Revolting" from season 4.

Right. Which basically shows the likelyhood of the Foot Soldiers having 'minds' (such as they are -- simple programming, etc.).

"The Foot Soldiers are Revolting"

"You're telling me!" :kgrin:

If the Foot Soldiers were remote controlled or had a central intelligence, wouldn't they be more like Mousers? I wouldn't have minded them presenting more of a threat to the Turtles, but not if they essentially became Mousers.

I like the Foot Ninja better as humans. They were way better in the first movie than in the second. A lot of them were arrested at the end of the first movie, right? Which would explain why they seemed totally inept in II. What especially irked me was the TGRI "fight scene", and the attitudes of Freddy and the Foot who regrouped before the Shredder returned. They don't seem...devoted enough to be Foot. Does that make sense? The Foot in TMNT I had a better presence, were more "professional". Also in II, the one Foot who suggests that maybe the others hadn't been picked up was like, 12. What?

Do you think robotic Foot would have worked at all in the live action movies?

In general, I love the foot soldiers. Always happy to see them in any tmnt story. I guess I just love ninja's.

What I really love about the how they were treated in the first movie, was yes, they were shown to be real people, professional, and acted serious...like the above posters said. My favorite thing about it though, was that it was a erally cool idea to have The Shredder kinda become this virus in the middle of the city, calling all the misled youth to him, and using him for his own purposes. I loved that the youthful turtles were forced to fight the youth of their city. Two Ninja masters manipulating youth to fight their battles....Maybe I looked too far into it, but it works for me:D

No. It worked for the 1987 cartoon, Archie comics and the classic video games. In the Archie comics Shredder built a giant Foot robot that fought the Warrior Dragon in New York City.

There can't be any greater type of evil henchmen than the Foot clan. I mean, the name is so badass, even greater to that of the Hand from Daredevil from which is was meant to be a parody. My favorite incarnation of these clan of ninjas are the Mirage b&w vol. 1 and TMNT 1990 movie. I still love the purple mangly robot soldiers from the OT days, but they were a little too robotic than ninja b/c they just used their laser guns all the time.

I agree. Except for the early seasons, when even the Foot soldiers used ninja weapons and the entire action was so much better and cooler and the TMNT weren't so afraid of hurting even living organisms (remember when Raphael in "Turtle Tracks" uses his sai against a Foot soldier before knowing it was just a robot).

I wish their were more in depth stories about the foot. Even the human Foot soldiers seemed mindless like the OT Foot soldiers. I want to read a TMNT story told from the viewpoint of a rank and file foot soldier.

There's a couple tales like that I think

The only one I've seen like that was the Tales I bought this summer that featured a young Japanese man who worked at a coffee shop and was friends with April, decides to take his father's place in the Foot, and ends up getting slain by the turtles in the end.

The first Foot soldiers, who rob a person in Japan in the flashback in "Turtle Tracks", are probably humans. Which red sky episode are you talking about?

Yeah I think so. I remember them wearing hoods and only covering their mouths. They looked pretty cool for real humans.

In the original toyline and the UK Hero Turtles comics, the Foot soldiers always wore grey and purple clothes, not black and purple clothes. In the video games, they had different colors.
