Ninja Turtles 1 in Theaters Today!!

As I was not blessed with the privillege of seeing the first movie when I was 6 in theaters I am now pumped for this new op to see an original 35mm print shown on the big screen. Here in Toronto they are running all three over the next three weeks at the bloor cinemas (plays old movie prints) The first one today at 2. I'll post with an update on how it was later today!!

It was SOOOO Amazing!! I loved every frame!!

It was a dirty print but I have to say the colour held up amazingly, I have seen some pretty washed out prints in that place.

It was a little rough in a few spots where in days past, machines pumping out amazing images for hungry turtle loving kids had probably ate a frame or two resulting in a rough past back together. So only a few lines were missing. One of which was just before splinter shows up in the fire on the farm. So the cut went from don saying "of course he's alive" to BAM splinter is in the blue flames. But other than that it was worth the $8 (which included a renewed membership to the theater) and the $4 for pop and popcorn (probably the cheapest place to get it, and it tastes the best). Felt great, could see SO much more in each frame, it reminded me how gritty and well shot this movie was, the lighting kicks ass, the sets kick ass, and the turtles kick ass!!

I even tried to ask the owner where the print was going after the screening, I said I would buy it but it goes back to the distributor.... damn....

So fly up to Toronto and grab the next movie next week! It should be a blast!! Though not as good as the first.

Wow. It means I was only 5 years old during Movie 1. I can still remember where my family sat inside the movie house. Yup. Those were the days.

Is this the original print that was played in Theaters? Were there any extra scenes? I heard that some stuff was cut because it was too violent.

Are they going to play the first movie again?

This theater specializes in showing old prints. It is sort of an art culture house. Unless you are in an area that has houses like this it would be HIGHLY unlikely that any major chain would try something like this and the chances of them screening the turtles would be even more rare.

Will they play it again? No I doubt it, the fact that I heard of this at the last minute was crazy. They played it yesterday and today, I thought I missed out when I heard it played yesterday. So next week-end they play #2 and then I believe #3 the week after.

Was it different? Hard to tell... I have watched it on DVD so many times it's not funny but the fact is it looked so different on the big screen. It felt more violent, it is possible that certain shots and cuts are there in the print that didn't make it to DVD. But ya there were moments where I was like "wow this seems like a better fight sequence than before" But that could have also been because it was on the big screen. But yes it was a print from the original theatrical release. 18years of use and wear will break down a print so you can tell when it is that old.

Congrats man, you are so damn lucky it's not even funny. If I had known I would have paid the plane ticket to fly myself there just to see the movie (Toronto is a cool town anyway so I'd make a trip out of it). I looked up online and they're playing spaceballs as well. Man...

So I looked up theaters in my area, and while I didn't find any that specialize in old movies, I did find an AMC (pretty sure it's a national chain) that's playing Terminator 2 all week. I think I'll have to get some people together and go, T2 has to be one of the better movies to see in theaters.

my old threater showed the universal monster films each sunday for ee at 12 pm! its unrelated yeah but the pure magic of seeing the orginal mummy, frankenstein, and dracula on the big screen....just like in the 30's wow.

I do live in a city so if there ever was a chance we have lots of art house theaters. I am not saying it would ever happen but a girl can dream :D

I know what you mean about seeing an older print of a film. Sometimes it just makes it cooler despite all the little lines and crackles and the fading.

It is so cool though, I just hope we get that directors cut

You were at the Sunday screening? I was there too, actually. I happened to notice that they were playing it the day before when I was walking down that street, so I had to make a point to go to the Sunday screening, get some popcorn and just pretend I was 6 years old and seeing the movie on the big screen for the first time again.

There were a few issues with the print here and there, but it was still amazing to see the movie in a proper theatre - I may never get that chance again, so I'm really glad I went.

That is so crazy ! hahahah. I was the guy right near the front on my own. I told the owner of the theater to shut off the damn lights back stage. You weren't one of those people who were laughing at all the best parts were you??? I was a little pissed about that!

A big group of people from my old film school went the day before and told me at the bar the night after. I was surprised I remembered, but it was a must for the day!!


Toronto has a few theaters like this, for those in big cities that have these types, I am sure if you ask they might be able to get their hands on it for sure!!!

I am pissed though, I am cam oping on a show south of the border (US) on the week-end so I don't think I can make #2.
