View Full Version : Back to the Sewer toys? When?

Probably nobody knows the answer, but I'm surprised Playmates hasn't released the Back to the Sewer figures yet. I mean, they released the Fast Forward figures a few months before the show came out. So what gives?
I want a Cyber Shredder action figure, lol.:D

We already do, apparently. The Sub-Sewer outfits have been seen in a screenshot for Back to the Sewer.

Hmmm.... interesting. Thanks for the info.
I wonder if they are going to make a Cyber Shredder. If so, he/she should be very tall, but probably won't be.

I'm hoping they do make Cyber Shredder and a few other villains like Cyber Foot, Stockman and Hun. The only BttS villain I know for sure is in production, is Metal Klawz, and I'm not even sure when he's coming out.

Yeah, I would also like to see a new Hun, Stockman, and members of the Foot. They would be in scale with the 2007 movie figures too, at least I would think so.
Is Metal Klawz the mutant mole?

Indeed it is. It was seen for a brief second in the opening titles of the Back to the Sewer preview.

Back to the Sewer toys? When?
NEVER!!!! WAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
Seriously, though. They dropped the ball not making Lost Season toys (the "Mystic Turtles" don't count, since they were made for the video game, TMNT3), and they're apparently screwing up again now just giving us the same moronic movie variants. Now they've worked them into the show.
There WERE sketches of Cyber Turtle figures going around, with designs close to their BTTS look (more like FF, though), as well as a design for a Ch'rell (SP?) figure. But those look like they're tossed aside for Music variants and Fire Fighters....

I remember coming up with a list of 40+ toys Playmates could have made that were based on Lost Season, including the variants, Mutations and vehicles that Playmates likes so much. Why didn't we get any of those toys at all?

Because they're the reason the season was "Lost." They wanted to sell the FF toys instead, since the stupid plastic dinosaurs were sitting on the shelves...
I mean, at LEAST give us the Taxi! At least give us that!

And look how many Fast Forward figures they made. Well over half of the ones we say in photos from trade shows never got made, including the Inuwashi Gunjin that was pictured on card backs.

Apparently the FF didn't do well (though they could of fooled the hell out of me, they sold pretty well in my area), and something tells me they didn't think the retailers would want the TMNT movie line and the TMNT cartoon line co-existing with each other... unlike Spider-man, The Justice League (as far as Batman and Superman were concerned)... and basically everything else...

All I know is Playmates better not ruin the Cyber Shredder figure.
Everytime I look at Cyber Shredder's design, I like it more and more. Playmates better give us a kick ass toy of him.

I guess I can see with what they're doing with the Back to the Sewers toyline now. Since all the regular cast is drawn in the movie style, Casey's look, April in yellow tights, the Turtles with the pupils.. making BTTS toys of them wouldn't look different enough from the regular movie toyline. But still... Playmates still shoulda made toys of the new Foot, the landlord, the Cyber Shredder and any other of the newer characters. Maybe add those 3 to the next line of variants.
Ninjinister

Hopefully we'll also get Demon Shredder finally....
Feels like Transformers: Animated again.
The toys should have been out by now but instead we are given the ever lovable movie variants, much in the same way the TF Animated toys should have been out at Christmas but instead fans get movie 'variants'. It may be a situation where we might have to wait another 6 months before we seen even a colourless prototype.
It's daft though. A cartoon doubles up as a toy advert and there's no toys right now to sell (even though the Extreme Sports TMNT seen in the BTTS intro are available as Mini Mutants). We are pretty much wanting toys that are not confirmed to exist right now and if 2K3 is anything to go by we should be used to it by now.
Ninjinister

Should we be used to it? Yes. Should we have to get used to it? Definitely not.
Agreed. We should'nt have to put up with poor performance at all.

I asked Peter tonight about Back the the Sewer toys tonight:
"Do you know if by any chance we will be seeing toys based on the Back To The Sewer series? Or are we only going to keep seeing figures based on the movie look?"
Peter then said:
I asked Gary Richardson (Mirage's CEO) this question last week, and this is what he told me:
"Playmates will indeed be selling some BTS connected figures, at least a Cyber line."

I'll buy them I hope to at least get a decent cyber Shredder figure.

Ya know, if it wasn't so far off the new scale, I'd say a remolded Supermutant Shredder when be a good Cyber Shredder. At least it's a nice base for customs (if you can get one).

Oh because that's all there's been for over the past year and they just sit on the shelves and don't sell at all.:ohwell:
Toonami Tom
09-15-2008, 02:20 PM
That's probably what they will be, old figures with cyber gear glued on.:ohwell:
However, we probably will get Cyber Foot Ninja and Cyber Shredder, and they will probably both be totally new figures.
That's just a guess.
I hope they make the 'landlord ninja master' or whatever his name is. That would be cool, but I doubt it will happen.

Yeah, Playmates sucks. We've established that.
They were ok at the beginning of the 2k3 line, even if the crappy varients started popping up toward the end of it, but now they have hit rock bottom.
Why do I have this cold chill down my spine that they mean, Movie line turtles with cyber gear glued on?
I know what you mean.
Certainly new figures based on the new toon designs would be more logical.
I also wonder if a proper BTTS line would be out that Serling will just be the FF toy repackaged or just a newer scale version would be made.

I want new sculpts. That's all I want. Sculpts that look like their cartoon counterparts... or at least the style guides. That's why I really liked the FF versions of the Turtles. They were the right look, and close to the right scale... and the best Splinter figure we got so far. I was hoping for a BTTS line sort of like that...
And without an 8 bucks a pop price tag. That's what stopped me from really collecting the movie guys.

To me the new Back To the Sewer Toys should look like the style of the show which is pretty close to that of the new Spider-Man animated series, which the toys for that look exactly like it.
When I see those new Spider-Man toys I think that's exactly how the Back To The Sewer toys should look.

I'd love to get this April and Casey since the TMNT versions they're in battle gear.

It's kind of annoying that the Turtles can get so many pointless variants but characters that could have been made multiple times based on different looks they had in the film were ignored. I'd have killed for them to have made a bulkier Foot Ninja like the dude on the right.
http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb228/babyneturino/IV00580.jpg
I'd buy 5 easy.
With toylines looking near accurate to the way they look on TV these days, playmates would be mentally ill not to produce BTTS toys.
A simple confirmation from Murph as to whether these figures are actually happening would suffice.
I would be even greatful just to see a colourless prototype of a cyber foot soldier or something.

The time to REALLY release these was a month or so before BTTS premiered./ it would have been the mother of all Spoilers... but look at how well the movie line initially did... BEFORE the movie even came out. I think ban Dai used to do it all the time with the Power Rangers, premiring the next show as a toyline first. That's why PR was always a high selling toy line.

Hate to burst your bubble, but that ain't why PR does so well, though I'm sure that's part of it.
Now then, it is standard practice by most companies to release a toyline that has a movie/show media alongside it a month or more before the media comes out. It advertises for the media and in turn, the media advertises for the toys.
Playmates though...well, simply put, I don't know what the hell is wrong with them. No one cares about the movie line anymore. It came out on DVD over a YEAR ago. It's time for BttS toys, not movie toys. At the very least, they need to change the bloody box. Then maybe some kids won't igrone it next time their in the toy ilde.
Oh, and where's Metalz Klaws? He's in the media and on the box and is the only figure this year I've actually want. Man, their getting on my late nerve:mad:

I remember that during like Episode 2 or 3 of "Green With Evil" they advertised the Green Ranger and Dragonzord figures, and indicated that they were the newest heroes of the Power Ranger team. I was like "<.< Well, at least my theory of Tommy's spell being broken was correct."

They would still do well if the toys came out 6 months after everything happened... but new toys before a season starts is a nice push for both the toy line and the TV program it's based off of. But With TMNT... if they don't strike when the iron is hot, we'll wind up looking at prototypes moaning about not having them. After all, BTTS is only 13 episodes. And unless they stretch them out to hell, there will be no time for the toys to surface. That is, unless they make them rediculous varients of the movie line.

What Mirage or Peter Laird or whoever needs to do is fire Playmates toys.:x I say they should let Hasbro make the figures. I think it would be cool to see a Star Wars sized line of TMNT figures made by Hasbro. These days, Star Wars figures have awesome articulation too.

Why would they? Playmates was the one that got the show to BE a show. They made the toys, and they pushed to have it animated so the toys would sell. And Peter pretty much lets them do whatever they want... except when it comes to a good idea. once again, Vaughn has a better angle on this than me...

No, if they do that it should be a sub-line.
It would be moronic after all the time to up and change the line to that size, but hey maybe Playmates will go down that road since they are complete morons when it comes to business.
If Hasbro was making toys they should be like the Marvel Legends figures, even Matel is making great figures based on DC comics characters and I think half of those characters suck and I've been tempted to buy allot of the toys on the fact that they're amazing sculpts alone.

I say, the DC stuff looks nice and all, and it looks like MAttel is off its duff, and actually making GOOD products for a change. Their One Piece Line was a joke, and a Kakashi from Naruto I bought literally snapped in half when I got it out of the package... and everything else they've been doing was piss poor, both in terms of the toys themselves to the marketing and distribution.
Hasbro seemed to be struggling miserably until Star Wars episode 3 was released, and the flurry of exciting new merchandise hit the scene. That was their breakthrough. With that new capital, they were able to secure new licenses, like Marvel.... and everything just kept falling into place for them. They went from worst to first in a matter of years. Now, if only Mattel and Playmates can hit that as well, we'll be in good shape. Mattel of course is less doubtful than Playmates, though.
