View Full Version : New TMNT Website - Good or Bad?

Ok... so I know there are a TON of TMNT fan sites out there. I have an idea that is sort of a
networking/fansite/usefull thing I thought I would do in my spare time. Basically I am asking the
community to see if they think it is worth while and a good idea or not. Also to avoid stepping
on any toes in the process.
The idea for this site is as follows:
First: This site would of course as any fan site would showcase my love for TMNT as well as
an interesting look at my collection set up (which is also in progress). The design will be custom
and interesting (not a standard cut and paste site layout)
Secondly: The site would act as a surplus TMNT store offering fare prices on loose figs
vehicles and accessories. Much like the other sites out there but not over priced. This will tie
into reason number 3 as well as offer connections though a local toy dealer who sells old toys.
Third: And more importantly, I would like to host sort of a TRADING POST. Not a message
board!! The drome works to well for that. This would be a direct link page set up for people to
email in their 'wish lists' or 'lists for sale' I would ask NO commission. It would work like this: A
person with a wish list or sell list would send me a list including pictures if they wish. The site
would be set up with categories. When their lists are posted the contact information for the
person would be included OR in a case where the individual does not want to post their email,
the sites host email can be used as well.
Why you might ask? Well I don't know... sounded like a cool idea. And this way when people are
looking for specific things or they want to post a fore sale list their post does not get lost and
forgotten on a message board it stays up till they don't want it up anymore or they find what they
want.
Let me know what you think! This would take some time to set up and if people think its stupid I
wont bother.
Thanks

Thats because I have not made the site yet, I am asking if people think its a good idea. The site is started but nothing is active yet.

So are you basically proposing a TMNT swap-meet type site? That might not be a half bad idea...

Sounds good, what would you call it? Needs something that'll catch the eye of public.
Don't want all your efforts down the tube with just a small clutch of people to ever stumble on it from here.
It all depends on the layout you may use, if it is of decency then hell yeah, tackle that stuff and bring it all on. (I'd use alternative words, but the drome is a family place, lol)

I'm glad you think its cool!
Ya I am working very hard on a VERY cool layout... or at least I believe it is cool. And I have a surplus of figs and accessories that will be up in the 'Store' section.
You are right, it will be a 'swap trading post' type of a thing.
Names!!! Good idea maybe if you have ideas that would be cool. I have been bouncing some around. Not very good ones but some. It would have to be memorable and easy to find. The layout is largely set in the sewer lair and inspired by the OT lair.
Something with trading post in it might be good
TMNT Trading Post or Subterranean Trading post... not very good but lets hear some ideas!!

Hmmm... here's some ideas...
Sewer Surfin' Shop
The Manhattan Underground Swap
The Turtle Trading Tour
The Top TMNT Swap
The Turtle Box Social
The I.S. (In Shell) Trading Post
Shell Shock Swap
Sorry... I'm kinda tired and hungry right now, would buy a pizza but there's not enough... :(

I like some of these, I want to hear more though.
Also I have to think of it as looking good as a URL address. So it also cant be to huge. There is a slight play on the words 'Trading Post' in the lay out so I do sorta like names with that in it but if there is something better thats different it doesn't matter that much.
The site also is being created in conjunction with a very elaborate setup for my collection which will have its own section of the site. This part might take a little while so we might not be totally up and running until Early Oct. But have your wish lists and sale lists ready!!

Sewer Trading Post USA?

HAHAA I like the USA part!
Thats the thing, is because the 'tradin post' part is between people buying and selling from each other it doesn't matter that I'm in Canada for shipping (I'm only mentioning it because you reminded me) So that is also a cool thing!

It's a cool thing to bring a cool thing to attention. Oh how cool is that?!
How about...
The Great Sewer Swap Site?

Good. Many TMNT fansite ceased to operate in 2004-2005 or something.

^I noticed. Due to no one going to them right? Well I noticed with many of the sites it was the same thing. Fan art, a bio and a few pics from episodes. Not that there is ANYTHING wrong with that, it had just been done a thousand times.
I hope that people can start using this site regularly as a location to consistently connect with the collectables they are looking for. Also I hope it looks cool, and people enjoy it.

We can definitely use a site like this man. Ebay and my local comic shop seem to be short on old tmnt stuff.

Turtle Trades
Terrapawnshop

I love it! There should be a prize if I chose one of the names from here hahaha! I can't wait to share the design I hope people like it/it works!
Like I said before I have some very good connections in the old toy world and this can also act as a door to that. Some stuff I can have in the store might be some carded stuff including the entire Army lines and old school army lines. Much of the Wacky Action lines as well!

You could steal the good ole "2nd Time Around" :P
You could steal the good ole "2nd Time Around" :P
That's actually a great name for a TMNT site specializing in trading merch. I say steal it!

I like the idea very much.
Can you give a sneak peek of you're design?
Canadian Turtle
09-21-2008, 12:04 PM
There should be a sneak peek splash page up in the next few days. Just need to tweak and colour the page.
If all goes well it should be very comic book/cartoon, but I don't want to hype it to much or you might be disappointed... hahaha

It is ALWAYS time I know exactly what you mean! I run another site for my video production company to basically self promote myself as a freelance shooter and I can hardly find the time to keep it up. I only recently re-built it so it should be fresh for a while.
But it looks nothing like this site will look like.
J 1982 Why are you saying a lot went down? Do you mean they lost interest or people shut them down?
Hey Canadian Turtle,
If ever you would need some help on anything, I would be glad to help. I am from Ontario as well, and it's about time we have a awesome TMNT Canadian Site! :P
Good luck!

The sites are still aviable, but I said many of them haven't been updated since 2004-2005.

^Thats cool, and I don't intend on making it a 'fan site' really. The only fan material I will be posting will be of my display but thats different, I would have done a site for that anyway. The site is intended as a networking avenue for TMNT collectors of all types to post their wanted and for sale lists in one consistent space, but in no way is it to replace services provided by the drome, because the drome rules!!
Ron - Very cool! I love the Ontario connection! I could use a little help in the web design world as there are a few specific things I am trying right now that are new to me, so if anyone is a HTML nut maybe you can PM me. Thanks!
J 1982 - Cool man thanks for that! I again realize what I am getting myself into, but as long as people find the site useful I fully intend to keep it up! Again I as a "consumer" of the web I am interested in what the site is going to provide to me as a service so I hope this acts as more than just a 'fan site'
Thanks all for your input! Keep it coming!

Get some good endorsements, if you get some people who are popular among the web to help spread the word (and they are men/women of their word of course) then you should be seeing some decent traffic from the get go. If you know anyone pretty big in the name of business, maybe get them help you out too.
Sure will. I might ask my webdesign for my website, he might give you some help.
It kinda sucks where I live, north of Ontario. I am the only TMNT fan in this city that I know of. That's why, you are the closest thing toa TMNT family! haha...

I hope people on the drome can help spread it that way as well. This is a TMNT collector specific site so people who are outside the drome should be able to find it as well!

Sorry double post but here is the first peak at the site:
www.iproductionsonline.com/tmntsplash.htm
All of the site will have backgrounds and navs much like this. But I am still drawing, colouring, and working out the technicals of it. Might be a little while. I'll have an end date posted very soon!
Wow, that's incredible work!
I am from Kapuskasing, ON. 2 hours north of Timmins ( if you know where that is ). I would be very glad to help out spread the word for TMNT fans in the area ( like I said, I havent found none ).
Also, I have this huge collection underway, which I will be able to send you photos once my display is done ( or almost there ).
Like mentionned, anything you need, let me know! :)

Very cool!! Well I have added one more page to the preview. No more will be going up until the final layout is finished. Again I would guess mid Oct.
Please feel free to send me your wanted and for sale lists, as I will compile them and add them as the site goes up. When a name is decided I will add a new email address to send to but for now you can email me at:

Thanks!!

So it comes down to it! Which name should I go with. Which of these three should I buy into online?
Sewer Swap
Turtle Swap
turtle trading post
Or suggest another but I like these three. Think as a URL whats easy to remember and pass on to other people.
