The series is into its seventh season now, and has branched out from comic adaptations into its own distinct universe with plenty of new characters. I thought it might be interesting to see which cast members original to the show were most, or least enjoyed by fans.

Favorite new characters:

Bishop - I think they made a fantastic villain in Bishop. He's dark, he has an interesting back story, and his fight scenes are terrific. I always like the apsect of the Turtles as urban legends or science anomalies played up, and Bishop capatilizes on this as well.

Serling - I just like the guy. Sort of a fresh take on the stuffy comic relief character. I know he may be a bit derivative, but I think he's a worthy entry to the Turtles mythos.

Least favorite new character:

The Ancient One - Irritating, derivative, and he can't decide whether he's Chinese or Japanese. He would have been tolerable, barely, as a one shot character.

If you want to make the case for a significantly different take on an old character (arguably Karai, Baxter, Ch'rell) then go for it.

I liked Hun, until his voice changed and he became the money grubbing leader of the Purple Dragons. Originally he was hard core, punishing Stockman, waylaying the Turtles, now he's a shadow of his former self. Here's hoping from what I've seen of BttS Hun, he'll be back in fighting form this season.

EDIT: And I totally agree on Bishop. Nothing beats the villain that feels that what he's doing is for the greater good, like Magneto or Demona.

Least Favorite: Garbageman. Seems like you guys are forgetting him. I'll admit his first episode was pretty decent, but the second Garbageman episode was absolutely horrible. The worst episode of Season 2. yikes.

My favorites:

Bishop He's awesome, there's no other way I can think to describe him. He's dark, has a interesting background, and despite how nasty he can get...he really thinks that what he's doing is the right thing to do in the long run. He's one heck of a fighter, and far more impressive than ALL of the Shredders who have come and gone in this show...and yes...I mean that!

Dr. Chaplin He's adorable, he's (to me) a combo of Donnie, Mikey (the orange hair and the cute geek qualities of Mike anyway...thankfully they don't have anything else in common...), and a wee bit of Leo with his new soldier actions in season 5. I love him and Karai together (as it was implied) and hope we see more of them this season.

aww, why does every one hate the Ancient One :( I kind of liked his character. He played off well with Splinter and gave him some one closer to his age to interact with. Plus he was the only one who was able to ease Leonardo's mind and make him go back to the normal. He kind of reminds me of yoda. The only thing that I don't care for with the ancient one is his association with the tribunal members. It nocked his coolness factor down a few notches acting like the tribunals trained monkey.

Everything the Ancient One has done in the series could've been accomplished through the use of a much less irritating character.

Why do people hate the Ninja Tribunal? I don't understand...?

Not only did they have cool character designs, but they were decent characters as well.

To me they had no compassion. For people who were stopping a great evil, they didn't seem the most compassionate themselves.

I kind of thought that's what made them interesting, the fact that they had almost no emotion.

Yeah, but they also had no real heroic qualities, they were just abusive and heartless IMO.

I quite liked the ninja tribunal, but when they showed up again at the end of the season after the big battle, it kinda wrecked it for me. I mean sure I liked them but when you defy death whats the point in worrying

Nano (The whole kid thing just started to get on my nerves)You know, I've always liked Nano. Nano was strange and tragic, which is what I expect from TMNT when it does its more surreal stories.

the tribunal sucked. I was hoping they would stay dead, I really hate characters like them, who don't give a flying fluck about other people except for the whole of it and to hell with the little man. I was so glad that Splinter was bitching them out every chance he got.

I've been rewatching my season five dvd and I think I've decided that I don't like the acolytes eighther. I really didn't see much use for them besides making up the numbers and being canon fodder. the only one that even seemed remotely interesting in bringing something out of the turtles was Joi and what could have been explored with Raph. But that ended up being nothing so...

Bishop: He is my all time favorite new character. He was a great replacment for the Shredder as the next big villain. he had an intresting back story that gave him a reason to do the awful things he has done. Like others has said he's kinda like Magneto.

Hun: I always like Tatsu from the movies and a new right hand man was a cool idea to me. That and he was instrumentle in making the Purple Dragons a major threat. That and I like the whole fact that he is Casey's archenemy.

Dr. Chaplin: He's a fun character his best moments is when him and Baxter interact its just comdey gold.

Battle Nexus Characters: I didn't really like Ultimate Ninja at first but once they got to the actaul tornament he grew on me. The other members all had really cool designs and I liked the Daimyo and Draco. They gave Splinter and Yoshi more of a back story and thats always good. Oh and Usagi showed up during the Battle Nexus that also helped.

The Ancient One: I like him sure there were some things that annoyed me about him like those scenes where he kept farting but all around I think he's a good character.

Underground monsters: Quarry and the gang were cool they had a great look. The Foot turning humans into mutant slaves to dig for them was a great tragic story and them look even more evil. That and Quarry had a nice chemistry with the guys.

Darius Dunn: I didn't like much in Fast Forward but he was one of the things I did like in Fast Forward. He was everything a good 2k3 villain was cold and manipultive and two steps ahead of others. hopefully they show what happened to the fat evil old bastard.

Dark Turtles: While I hated there design I loved the characters I mean there evil version of the guys and there the closes thing I'll ever get to Slash being on the show. Outside of the designs what was to hate.

Traximus : I liked the idea that there was a triceraton hero and thatey all weren't blind follows of an evil empeor.

Nano: I always found him to be pretty creepy one of those villains thats a victum as well. I am glad he found happness in the end though.

Touch and Go: I liked them they added to the list of rouges gallery I really wished we saw more of them actaully.

Mr Mortu, The Navigators, and Utrom Guardian I dont remember the original comic Utrom story having these so I'll put them as new characters. Once againt ehy gave more depth to there story and Mortu added personality to them.

Yukio Mashimi : I liked him he was a good awnser to the Oroku Nagi problem.

Torbin Zixx: He was cool and was a good rival for the Turtles kinda gave off a Casy vibe for me I guess. If there is a possible chance for a Fast Forward lost season I would like to see him return in it.

Atlentians: They were cool gave a cool explanation to some of the monsters like Raptarr's people and the fish people. I might like to see something with them again.

Ninja Tribunal: I like them and the fact that they are single minded and only really care about there threat gave them more depth. It added conflict between them and Splinter that was something I enjoyed that season.

Joi She was one of the acolytes I actaully liked she was really the only one that i remember really well. The didn't have much of a personality that and I liked Raph had a thing.

Adam I liked him he had a good chemistry with the turtles at least I always felt that way.

Indiffrent

Cody Jones: I dont hate or love him because some of the things I love have to have him in it but there are times when he just annoys the crap out of me. I guess its because he tried to replace Casey and April but just couldn't.

Serling: To me he was always a piss poor Fugitoid. I like his relationship with Cody but for the most part he seems to get in the way.

Viral: She had potential but she was to gimmicky and was way to much of a lacky to a Venom ripoff. I'm kinda glad she got taken over by Cyber Shredder I hope she stays dead.

Angel: I wont lie I'm not a fan of little kid characters in shows never have even when I was a kid. Really I dont have much of an opinion of her. Shes just here to me.

Silver Sentry and the Justice Force: There not bad but I'm not really a fan of there being so many larger then life heros in the Turtle universe. It makes the guys less uniqe to me. Nothing wrong with them its they dont really fit in to me.

August O'Neil and The Brotherhood: I wasn't big on this plot we already had the Battle Nexus for the diminsian stuff this felt like over kill and he never really added anything to April's character except Jungle Girl and that got old quicke.

Hate

Garbageman: Oh boy was this guy ever lame. I meanhe wants to take over the world using garbage thats just silly even for the OT series.

Jammer Head, Triple Threat, and Sh'Okanabo: They were one of the reasons I hate Fast Forward. They felt really over used and just plain boring. Jammerhead was just plain annoying and overused. Triple Threat was just the big guy with a spots gimmick. Sh'Okanabo everything about him felt like a Venom ripoff his plot was even like the Venom Carnage plot of that Spider-Man Unlimited series.

Starlee and her family:Starlee annoyed the crap out of me. I swear I felt like they only added her because there was no female characters. and her family less said about those Jewish stereotypes the better.

Xena the Monster Hunter or whatever her name was: Glad she didn't come back.

forgot all about Starlee's family, I couldn't stand them. And Actually I was never that big on Starlee her self.

I don't get why so many dislike Cody so much, he wasn't that bad and he hardly stole the thunder from the turtles. I actually thought he was a bit under used.

I have to admit though, if they had to add a boy sidekick, they could've done so much worse. Instead of a wide-eyed, overly enthusiastic eight year old, be glad we got a teenager who had to actual problems to overcome and was a constant target. And, as Jelly Bean said, they didn't shoehorn him into every episode.

kid side kick character always give off this weird vibe of almost romantic love toward the main characters they idolize. It's pretty creepy and that what sort of turns me off too most child side kicks.
