What if the Punk Frogs were given an own cartoon? They're not my favourites, but I just wonder what you would say out there.

They did. It was called Battletoads and only lasted one episode.
Seriously, I dunno... the Frogs were really wimpy in the old show, I mean they fought even less than the turtles did.

Like noted, Coola was just fooling about the connection between them. Sure they're a group of frogs, but it's a different thing.

Sadly, the Mutanimals members didn't was a team in the 1987 cartoon (they could have been without Leatherhead, he was cool as a bad guy in the 1987 cartoon).

Well, like noted the other time this was brought up. There were apparently plans to do a Mutanimals cartoon, but it ended up cut-short and wasn't done.

Pretty much (there is a little info about it on the TMNT Wikipedia page). Basically would have the Mutanimals dealing with Maligna (like in the comic's mini-series), as well as some new villains.

Well, there are similar things throughout TMNT's various medias.
Like you note with those characters being villains in the classic cartoon. While they're heroes in the comics and toyline.
Just different presentations of a character.

I see nothing about Battletoads toys on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battletoads. But interesting is how the Battletoads tried to rival the TMNT.

Yeah. That little info also notes of DICs other shows that have similarities to TMNT (Street Sharks and Extreme Dinosaurs). Basically that's all it is (that the shows have some similarities, etc.).

Battletoads were supposed to arrive to Sweden in early 1992, and was considered to challenge the TMNT. But the video game arrived very late, in early 1993. Battletoads never became that popular on any part of the Earth, and some years later the TMNT begun to fade away before being popular again in the early 2000's.

I know I have seen toys that look like those toads in space suits I always figured thats what they were... I'm not sure.
I guess it did fit into those last copy cat attempts at tmnt success. ie. Biker Mice, street sharks and so on.

I never could tell them apart eighther. I couldn't stand the punk frogs, they should have stayed in Shredders control for a while longer before becoming good. Or been made permenent slaves by Leatherhead.

But Power Rangers finally became the thing that managed to "put down" TMNT.

Yep, I had learned of that quite some time ago.
There's a new Sentai series each year, and each Power Rangers is a variation on that.

Well... just doing something "a little different". Had also read somewhere that Power Rangers has been popular in Japan as well (kinda expected in a way, but still funny; a variant on their Sentai shows, which put together footage from those and new American footage, has also gotten popular).

You know, until I saw that Youtube video today, I always assumed the Battletoads were cooler than they really were. I had thought they were giant toads (real toads... mutated toads) who smashed stuff. Now I find out they are overweight, teenage dorks who "morph." Oh.... the horror.

Yes, especially for TV broadcast (typically editing many instances of gore/blood, any times there might be nudity, etc.). Though some have intact DVD releases (with the original Japanese audio and English subtitles).
*Edit: A good example of this would be the Lion-Force Voltron. It's a dub of a Japanese series called Beast King Golion, which is quite violent in comparison [to Voltron]. I note this, as both Voltron and Golion have DVD releases in the US now.

I've noticed how in Japanese cartoons characters can just be killed off. Compare that to a US cartoon of the 1980's, where they always managed to jump away and avoid being hit by the gunfire.
Yes, that's another aspect of it. And, as noted in my edit, here's another bit of a comparison.
Like, in Voltron the character Sven is said to just be "injured" after a battle, where-as his Japanese counterpart was killed (complete with showing a funeral for him).

Battletoads could have been cool, more like in the video game. I also recall them teaming up with the Double Dragon Lee brothers in a 1993 video game named "Battletoads & Double Dragons".

I agree. But TMNT would work with both Battletoads and Double Dragon. One of TMNT's strongest things is that it can be about everything from local New York City street punk thugs to aliens from Dimension X invading the Earth.

I always thought they were cool toads from another planet than Earth without those stupid powers (but I recall they looked like church bells when they were climbing down the ropes in the video game).

Hmm, touche! (Though I would suspect that a backstory was written down before the game was made in anticipation of cashing in on the franchise)
Is this rather an good argument on why one should be wary of building an animated cartoon show off a video game? Also in this corner: Mega Man, Power Stone, and The Legend of Zelda (not so bad, I guess).
But, on the other hand, we have the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Earthworm Jim, and the various Sonic the Hedgehog incarnations.

Hmm, sounds eerily similar to my own experience... amazed to learn of an animated series on a game I love, thrilled to pick up the pilot disc on the cheap, and then became utterly disillusioned as I watched. The first episode actually got off to a decent start. But then... it tanked... bad. The whole series is up on YouTube if you desire to torture yourself further.
