View Full Version : This season to end with animated movie?!
Venom

While at the store I picked up and thumbed through this month's Toyfare with Yoda on the cover and noticed something interesting in the animation sections. Lloyd Goldfine stated there would be an animated movie at the end of the season to celebrate the 25th anniversary. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
Also, they made the glaringly obvious mistake of calling the Utrom "Krang", and the Foot Elite "Shredder in Samurai Suit". :P

Would be cool if TMNT finally got a DTV.
Batman: Animated series had several DVD movies, as did most of the DC shows.

I remeber seeing this yesterday, this is the best I can recall the article:
"the show is going to celebrate 25 years of turtles with a very special animated movie. For the old school turtles purist in you, Goldfine assures you that you'll go cowabunga over the movie"
"old school purist"? I wonder if it will be connected to the OT or the Mirage comic.

Not to my knowledge, but I find that many articles that tend to appear in Wizard/Toyfare will often use old toon buzz words, such as "Pizza" and "Cowabunga" even if the articles are talking about the Mirage comics(notice the use of "Turtle Power" in the Neca figures article).

Thought they canceled the DTV movie
They canned the Imagi movie that was going to be a strict adaptation of issue one and prequael to the 2007 movie. I think its one of either four things.
1. There going ahead with the TMNT mirage issue one adaptation but with a diffrent animation studio probraly 2D animated.
2. This one I think is the most likley a DTV based on the current animated cartoon. Would be a awesome since we are getting only 13 episodes this season.
3. An Old Toon movie which wold be a dream come true for me and I'm sure many others. I'm mostly rooting for this one.
4. There isn't one Wizard/Toyfair just doesn't know WTF there talking about sadly it wouldn't be the first time either.

I think this movie will involve dimension-traveling, which might mean a crossover with the original series cast, as well as the confirmed apperances of Usagi, Gen, and April and Casey's wedding.
And I woudlnt put it past 4Kids to split it into three parts on reruns.

Last season Leo, Don, Raph and Mike pressed the "fast forward" button and went into the future. They make it back to the present, but someone kidnaps their mentor Splinter, and it's up to our four heroes in the half shell to save him. Unfortunately, a major villain returns to stand in their way. "There are new rules, new powers, and new threats for the Turtles (to resolve,)" says Lloyd Goldfine, (who is producer) and story editor for the series. Not only will the new season end with a wedding, but the show is going to celebrate 25 years of Turtles with a special animated movie. For the old school Turtle purists in you Goldfine assures you you'll go Cowabunga over the movie!
TOON TOYS: With 2009 as the Turtles 25th anniversary a new line of toys from Playmates is jhust the tip of the iceberg.
There....finished!

I've also always secretly hoped the 2k3 Turtles would travel through an alternate dimension to the 80's cartoon universe, complete with all the old voice actors reprising the Turtles and Shredder/Krang/Bebop/Rocksteady.

I'll believe it when I hear it from an official TMNT source. if they somehow (and I completely doubt it) make a classic style movie based off the old series, and somehow get the original cast, I'll be amazed. I could see them make a 2k3 style DTV (Don't understand why they didn't do at least one yet).. or some semi-sequal to the movie.... but it seems like something that they're either keeping hush hush super secret on... or will never happen.

I'd like a sequel to the cgi TMNT, since I really want to move away from that as far as major releases go, but I was interested in the story enough to not let it die on a semi-cliff hanger.

I doubt it. They chose 13 episodes a while back, and they clearly thought it all the way through. we're only 3 epiodes in. I feel that they can get the rest of Splinter and have the massive Shredder war in 10 episodes. After that, we'll clearly have another subtitled season. This is partially a transition season, after all.

I love how some are generally trying to be picky about what the "Cowabunga" entails...It means what it obviously means people, accept it.It doesn't really give any indication. The public perception of the Turtles is that they eat pizza and say cowabunga, thus any new pertaining to them will probably include the word cowabunga regardless of what version its talking about.
The movie could be about the Image Turtles, and they'd still throw the word cowabunga into the article.

I wonder how they would handle that in the cartoon as it's not April and Casey's biological child, I don't think they would bring Gabby into the cartoon just to bring a child into the show.

After all Shredder's origin has been changed drastically from the comics, they could change Shadow's so its "kid friendly" for the show.

I've said it a million times before, but the best thing would be to either make 2 or 3 DTVs One based on the comic, one based on the OT, and maybe one based off the new series.... They've had your day in the sun for years. Quite frankly, I couldnt care less what they want considering they don't appreciate what they have anyway. Angry TMNT Nerd letters about April being a drawing, monthly pot-shots at Lawson...oh yeah, I havent forgotten. The elitists are never satisfied, nor do they ever want to be
Sorry, but the "kiddy crap", for most people, is the definitive version of the franchise, and it deserves it's respect at last. Laird has never outwardly stated he hated the original, and he's had so many love letters to it in the show, this is simply the culmination of them if this is the case

Nevermind also that this SITE is called The Technodrome.com, and it's not remotley out of nostalgic value either. If they reunite the original voice cast and incorporate both canons into the same multiverse, it's a nice valentine to those fans who can be diverse, not simply a MIRAGE snob who's too precious about something being seperate.
Sorry you're not capable of diversity Jo, but hey, it's your loss

Gobo's original intention, as he told me, was to have it be a satirical "Next" TMNT series, or even a spin-off. In much the same way the turtles were pulled to 2105, Zach would be pulled through dimensions and end up living with Cody and serling in 2105...

Of course I'm capable of diversity. I watched every episode of the OT faithfully when it was originally on. We read every issue of Archie. We have every toy, every book, almost every comic available. I'm barely a Mirage snob, just someone who's tastes changed and matured into something else entirely. (Even though I really hoped for MORE watching the OT, even back then.) And since I've been exposed to every medium the TMNT have had, I'm quite capable of forming my own opinion, and having it be an educated one. I do wish you'd ask before you accused. It would be so much more mature.
Again, I said in my second post that they should go ahead with the OT cast. It will make my brother happy, and that's all I really care about.

On Pete's blog someone asked him for more info on the movie and he said this:
Rob, my understanding is that this "movie" will be shown on TV in three parts (each one as long as a standard episode of the TMNT show), and possibly -- very likely, I'd say -- released on DVD as one long episode (or "movie", if you will). -- PL
I hope its not just the last 3 episodes of Season 7. It doesn't sound like it, but who knows.

I wish they would just release an episode description list for the season to clear up any questions (well and to get an idea about the season of course). :)
I think tacking on a movie (3 episodes) to wrap up the season would be a really cool idea. I hope it's not included in the 13 episodes but somehow I think it will be like the previous poster said.
Better yet, I hope the movie is just a segway into a really awesome 26 episode new york season with non-supernatural, non-special powers, non-cyberspace and non-time jumping episodes

I don't really mind those episode types, but just as an episode or two and not a whole season.

Wow... I hate to agree but this IS sounding worse and worse. That isn't a "Movie" it's a bunch of episodes edited together. If our big 25th anniversary project is 3 episodes smashed together, no wonder why the fans are all miserable.
Jeez... we can't get a season 8, but we get 3 episodes on a DVD. Yay! problem solved!

So it's either going to act as episodes 11, 12, and 13 (I hope not) or "episodes" 14, 15, and 16.
In order for me to swallow this, it'd better have its own plot unrelated to the season, and not be included in the original thirteen episode count. Otherwise, it wouldn't be any different than just playing, say, "Notes To The Underground" back to back.

Not quite. Apparently this is the Ultimate 25th anniversary thank you note to the fans. 3 damn episodes loosely woven into a "movie film." No wonder they turned down the CGI DTV film... they wanted something cheap and lame that wouldn't take any effort.
I'd rather something similar to the Time Bokan OVA (the only piece of that franchise the US ever got), where they acknowledge the fans and say, thank you for supporting us, even in the dark times between TNM and 2K3 when nothing happened. And we're getting a kid's DVD release. Just like what happened with Inspector Gadget....
and if this is the LAST season, and I don;t think it is until we hear a final word from 4Kids in November (clock's tickin' dudes) we should get something better than a "OOH! Look! Series Finale" release. Especially when they'll be on the BTTS complete series collection...

An Update on the TMNT DTV:
"Given some of the unfounded rumors that have popped up in various places on the Web about the upcoming "animated movie" from 4Kids that Lloyd Goldfine made mention of in a recent interview, I feel compelled to clarify this one important point -- this "movie" is NOT just three more episodes added to the end of this current "Back to the Sewer" season. It is a completely separate project, intended from its conception as part of the 25th anniversary celebration. The reason it is being produced in three episode-length pieces is that doing so gives us more flexibility in how we show it. But it is all one story -- you can think of the three pieces as the three chapters in a three-chapter story.
While I am still not going to give a lot away at this point, I can say that this project may make a lot of fans quite happy, as it finally brings together the old and the new. And without being specific, I can also say that this project will also show fans the Turtles as they have never before been seen in animation. -- PL"

WTF people? Just because the OT turtles wheren't spouting declaritions of ever lasting brotherly love for one another, doesn't mean they wheren't brothers. The OT turtles came across to me as more than friends or roommates, to me I felt they behaved like foster brothers than just friends, even Splinter refered to them as sons and described as brothers.
And siblings don't have to call each other by nick names. I have an older and a younger sister and I never call them by nick names, and they never call me by some shortened cutsey nick name eighther.
CyberCubed

There were some random episodes of the old toon where Splinter did call them "My sons" and there is one ep where he tells Mike to "find his brother Turtles."
But they were never consisted with it. Still, when you sit down and watch old toon episodes you'll occasionally notice them sometimes called brothers every so often.
I will say this...
Well I stated this in the newest episode discussion...
If 4Kids dogs TMNT on its 25th Anniversary, or cans the series next year during its 25th, I will never trust these people again.
When one thinks of celebration, it isn't a means to an end, rather celebrating what's there.
If TMNT doesn't get another season, why should we be happy with this 3 part movie? So what we get 13 final episodes of a show that has found a great balance, only for them to take a dump on it, and give us a three part movie, and say, "see ya, happy 25th no more TMNT."
There is a part of me that thinks, "hey 4Kids wouldn't dog a show that has helped them for five years and still draws good ratings." Then there is a side of me that thinks, "these jokers are followers not leaders. They want to jump in on the TCG/cartoon market and hope to have another Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh."
I hope the 25th of the TMNT is celebrated with another season, and hopefully 26 episodes, as well as this DTV movie, and talks of another theatrical release sequel.
4kids, don't let Playmates bitch out on us, only for the series to end because we didn't have a chance to support the brand. Make them dorks put those BttS toys out so I can buy them for my son and myself, and support this show for further seasons.

I feel 4Kids cares more about TMNT than either the creators or the toy company. I mean, look what happened last season... they went through multiple series revamps. They could have just said, "Well, it's either this one way, or the show is canceled." Look how long it took them to make a compromise and work everything else out.
Of course, with FF, they were able to split the 26 episodes (unevenly) into 2 broadcast seasons to fill out that time. We had a one year gap between 2 seasons of a show, mainly because there was too much call to abandon it (A lot of which came from the toy company). I say it's in 4Kids best interest to make another season of TMNT. That and Chaotic are all they really have. Everything else is either not doing so well, or reruns.

4Kids is the licensing company. Let's not forget that. It was even stamped on the movie action figures. They fill the role Surge Licensing once produced. Plus, they ARE the production company that got them animated. It would be great to see them do something for adult fans for once.

-- PL

That doesn't mean Laird wouldn't support a "new toon meets old toon" special, though. And honestly, I'll be very surprised if this ends up being anything else. Mirage Turtles on a kids block? When they can't show blood and most of the watching public won't have a clue what's up with the red bandanas? The old toon Turtles are not only more recognizable, but would make a much more interesting pair with the new toon Turtles if that's the root they take.

And I say anyone in denial over the original TMNT series cast poissibly showing up is deluding themselves. Laird's had dosens of easter eggs alluding to the original series in the current one, so you're full of it.
Even if it's just an odd cameo, I expect to see something... some nod to the old series. Personally, I would love to see them commission a Bebop, Rocksteady, and Krang cartoon short for a bonus feature or something.

Holy crap, my thread has grown to 7 pages?!
Anyway, I'm the Rob G. who finally went and asked Pete about the movie. I saw noone had asked yet so I thought "might as well ask the man."
I'm pretty excited, and hope we get a darker, more serious and adult-geared story like "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" that can also be seen by the kiddies.
How cool would it be to see Shredder get blown up by Don's thermite grenade and seeing Mike throw his arm in the trash!

Scratch my back 4kids! When Pete say's fan's will be satisfied, do you think he means mirage, or slightly older fans as well? I understand if you can't answer that, but I'd like to be excited, although I don't wanna get my hopes up if this isn't my cup of tea.
