Perhaps they're tired of loosing money on their tired ideas, but that's just my guess.

I swear, I was half-expecting the Turtles to face THE ASTLEY SHREDDER.
But alas, no.
..Still, that was a really cruel pun nevertheless
At least there going out on their terms, with a major tying up of everything past, present, and something more.

VaughnMichael, I love the fact that you started this thread out with a cavalier joke, knowing how seriously some people will take this news.
It's a children's action cartoon that's run for seven seasons and will get a conclusive ending. That's unheard of. And it's not like we'll never see another Turtles show.

Maybe I'm just not high up enough on the totem poll - but this is news to me (and the shows production coordinator and producer...)
But who knows how things will pan out, eh?
We still have plenty of episodes to go this season - and of course that other thing. So there is still plenty to look forward to.

Ditto.
Plenty of people have been on this production for years, and every time a season ends it's "Ok this is it... well... MAYBE 1 more." and here we are 7 seasons in.
Regardless of if the show ends I am absolutely sure the TMNT will continue on in one form or another (besides the comics).

honestly, i wont miss it. it hasn't been good since the tribunal, after that...feh!
I *do* hope they're wrong but ..whatever happens, happens.
TMNT's renaissance may just be coming to another end.
(but not with me!!!!)
If this show ends, like I said, I am done with 4Kids.
What else do they have that matters? Reruns of Sonic X? Sorry got all the DVD's. Chaotic? Just another TCG turned cartoon. Winx? Yea... Viva Pinata? My care for anything VP starts and ends with the games only.
This show has the legs to stick around for a very long time, and there are plenty of ideas thrown around here, I'm sure people wouldn't mind being borrowed.
HOWEVER! What if next season is called, "The End," and it simply refers to something that has to do with an end, but not the show itself?
I guess I am just hoping, but with the great balance season 8 has had so far, I would find it really crappy for it to end after 26 episodes (assuming season 9 is only 13.)
I really wanted this show to pass the old toon.
EDIT: Well it is a given TMNT4kids, that the show will go on, but sort of like Transformers does, it gets redundant. In every TF cartoon we're always reintroduced to another Optimus Prime and Megatron. Megatron always becomes Galvatron, and so on. The reason I don't want this show to end, is because if it ever comes back, we have to go through origins again, and the process repeats. Since you are on the staff, I hope you guys can keep saying, "well just 1 more," time and time again until there are no more stories to tell. If anything, bring on fresh writers.

Suspicion confirmed. It's something going down at Mirage. Otherwise, someone at 4K would be hip to it.
I'm sure you're higher ups will convince them otherwise, and we'll see something else eventually. I just hope that's the case.
That said, 7 seasons of 100+ episodes is totally unheard of. You're lucky to make it beyond 52 production cap episodes nowadays.

Whatever. We've had an amazing run. And we have the DVD releases. This show has given us tons of great moments, and 1 billion percent better character development than the old toon. I'm just happy we got what we do have.

While I'd be naive to think the 4Kids series would run forever (although I wish it could at least reach a heavyweight status of a few more seasons under its belt), I'd like to see it at least run through their anniversary. It seems ludicrous to promote the Hell out of the Turtles, only to cancel the TV series. It's doing all right in ratings (though it could be better), and heck, even Fast Forward is doing reasonably well.

All Lion King references aside. The turtles will go away for like 5 years, and then have a relaunch. As is the way with all things. Entertainment companies don't need to dream up new concepts when they can just release the same thing a few years later to a new wave of kids.

Noted Vaugn.
Anyhow Rooish, the thing about cartoons is, it doesn't cost me 4 bucks a month to keep in touch with my favorite brand.
Another thing that is crazy about getting into comics, is that someone like me who has never read any of the Mirage/Image comics, and only Archie, I wouldn't know what is going on since the continuity has been there for years and years.
That is why I don't read comics, and want this show to continue in cartoon form, as those comics have for many years.
TMNT4Kids, if you guys have no control over what is happening, try and convince Mirage otherwise. This show has been on the best cartoons ever, and one that many could easily get into for the subject matter at times. If someone can look at this show in the spirit of shows like Lost, Heroes, and others, in terms of storytelling and continuity, you've done something right.
I am proud the show has lasted this long, but it could still be so much more. Here's hoping the next season really isn't the last.

http://www.hisstank.com/gi-joe-news/conventions-9/gi-joe-resolute-images-comic-con-2008-hasbro-panel-sdcc-7512/
I think that the 25th Ann. of GI joe has been great. It didn't have a cartoon to support it but the new toy line is doing very well and continued on.
But for the TMNT 25th Ann. to have a great toyline Playmates would have to not be controlled by morons.

Show me something with hard facts and evidence, preferably from the main man himself, and not just whispers of "I know something from so and so that said this, but I can't really tell you who because the informant is supposed to be kept secret." That gives me no reason whatsoever to believe you.
In fact, it rings of those oh so retarded chain mails clogging the spam box of your e-mail "Pass this to all these people and you'll win one million dollars by week's end!" Please. I have enough sense to know that that's a load of bunk.
So there are no plans on the table yet for an eighth season of the cartoon. That doesn't mean it's the end of the world or TMNT. Just means they don't have a plan at the moment for it, but it's certainly not dead. The current volume of the comics is ending in a few issues? Well, a new volume may be started at some point later. We don't know. A lot of us seem to think we can read the minds of these people when we really have no proof of what is going to happen. Speculation does nothing but make people anxious, stress over it and cause widespread panic. Now exactly how does that help the situation?
You know, a lot can change over the course of time. Nothing is ever written in stone. And until I see something from the people in charge, I refuse to believe otherwise.

True. It's really frustrating that we can't know the details of this reliable source. Rose, can you PM me who this is, so I can at least ask this person my own questions?
When Laird pulls an Eastman and says he doesn't want to create anything TMNT-related ever again, then I'll believe the TMNT are dead.
From what I've heard now, this might not be their death. It's a break, like the one we had before the new comics and 2k3 cartoon came out. Weird that it comes at the 25th anniversary, but I seriously doubt that Laird is going to kill off everything. Maybe most things, but I think he still loves the TMNT and doesn't want them to go away and disappear, like many people seem to suggest.
Rose, I know you've heard from a reliable source, but I'm guessing it wasn't Laird. ;) But I do want to know, has anyone spoken with Murphy? Ever since he stopped producing Tales and he started writing about nothing but the environment on his blog, I don't know what he's got to do with the TMNT. I miss him.
I know that it's really frustrating that Mirage seems to be cancelling the new show, but maybe they just want to quit it before it becomes a bad show. I can get behind that.
And Laird is dropping Vol. 4, but there is no news on Tales ending. There seem to be some writers and artists with good ideas for Tales coming up. Yes, Wal-Mart is dropping the toys, but with the show ending it's no big deal. Yes, NECA are being douches, but at least, as Vaughn suggests, Mirage didn't ask NECA to drop the TMNT--it's not Mirage wanting this aspect of the TMNT to die. It's the toy company's problem. Mirage can find something else.
Mirage can evolve. Vaughn and Rose, I really respect both of you and am glad we have such investigative and dedicated TMNT fans, but please explain to me how the TMNT are dying and this isn't just a break like before.

Still... a cancelled comic book
Wait... what?
Anyhow Rooish, the thing about cartoons is, it doesn't cost me 4 bucks a month to keep in touch with my favorite brand.
Dude, $4 a month? Seriously?
Another thing that is crazy about getting into comics, is that someone like me who has never read any of the Mirage/Image comics, and only Archie, I wouldn't know what is going on since the continuity has been there for years and years.
There's nothing crazy about getting into the comics. The continuity has been there for years and years, but that doesn't mean that everything published is in continuity. Next year, there are definitely going to be collected books of the key stories from the original run.
The image stuff, which ran from 96-99, is not canon. It is fun to read, but it's not essential to what's going on.
Back issues of Tales and collected books of Tales Vol.2 aren't hard to find, and you can still get the Treasury collected book of Tales Vol.1 which doesn't hinge on anything from the Mirage Vol.1 books. You CAN read pretty much EVERY issue of Tales without having read Vol.1, or 2. There are plenty here who do.
Tales especially is generally treated in such a way that the story will stand on its own, without you having to dig through back issues to find out what is going on or what has gone on before. It usually gets referenced in the story itself, and what needs to be explained gets explained. Yes, there are occasional exceptions, but there are always going to be.
Heck, you could probably just watch the first two seasons of the show and you'd be completely up to speed with the comics, because all the major story arcs are reproduced ALMOST perfectly there (Utrom Shredder aside)!
That is why I don't read comics, and want this show to continue in cartoon form, as those comics have for many years.
Out of curiosity, do you buy the dvd's or the toys?
TMNT4Kids, if you guys have no control over what is happening, try and convince Mirage otherwise. This show has been on the best cartoons ever, and one that many could easily get into for the subject matter at times. If someone can look at this show in the spirit of shows like Lost, Heroes, and others, in terms of storytelling and continuity, you've done something right.
In all honesty X, the only people who will compare TMNT to shows like Lost and Heroes are the fans of TMNT. The target audience, which is kids, will not look that far into it. Not until they're the age we are now, looking back on it the same way we do with the original cartoons.
X - 4kids have just as much control as Mirage. Go back and have a look at the Fast Forward hooplah.
Indeed we will, but don't forget Peter Laird said he's ending volume 4 and that Tales of the TMNt volume 2 is up in the air but will continue through 2009.
That said though, Tales, like any comic title is always up in the air in terms of the following year. Very few comics a definitely planned two years in advance, unless it's a big, reaching event like Secret Invasion or Final Crisis. The only books IDW banks on are Templesmith titles and Transformers, Marvel only banks completely on Bendis books and Spiderman, just as DC does with Supes and Bats.
I'd been told that talks for 2010 will be happening soon. Peter gave me the thumbs up for a story that can't be scheduled into 09 (not scripted yet, still needs to be fleshed out), so discussions will be happening soon from the looks of things.
This is exactly what I've been trying to say, but people seem to have made up their minds and don't seem to be willing to look beyond what they're seeing in front of them. Like I said: plans take time, and getting those plans into action TAKES TIME, which is why the comics are planned a year ahead, and the cartoon goes through PLANNING and PREPRODUCTION!
Speculation does nothing but make people anxious, stress over it and cause widespread panic. Now exactly how does that help the situation?
Quoted for the truth.
You know, a lot can change over the course of time. Nothing is ever written in stone. And until I see something from the people in charge, I refuse to believe otherwise.
I like you. Lots.

True. It's really frustrating that we can't know the details of this reliable source. Rose, can you PM me who this is, so I can at least ask this person my own questions?
Sorry, I can't do that. But if you would like to PM me questions I can see if I can get them answered (no promises that he/she can actually answer any of them though).
Rose, I know you've heard from a reliable source, but I'm guessing it wasn't Laird. ;) But I do want to know, has anyone spoken with Murphy?
I have talked with Murph a little, though not specifically about the cartoon.
Ever since he stopped producing Tales and he started writing about nothing but the environment on his blog, I don't know what he's got to do with the TMNT. I miss him.
He still does all the same licensing stuff he had been doing, just sans blog.
Vaughn and Rose, I really respect both of you and am glad we have such investigative and dedicated TMNT fans, but please explain to me how the TMNT are dying and this isn't just a break like before.
It can only be a break if management changes at Mirage. So long as Gary Richardson and Peter Laird are in charge nothing more can come of the TMNT than you see right now. If you guys care so much about the TMNT thriving for years to come, you HAVE to target the root of the problem. If you're not willing to do that, or if you're in denial of that... well, there's nothing more I can say to you.

True. It's really frustrating that we can't know the details of this reliable source. Rose, can you PM me who this is, so I can at least ask this person my own questions?
First off why would you ask Rose to tell you who this person is when I'm the person who is sharing this info?
I highly doubt that Rose would want to jeopardize anyone else's job and friendship as those things mean allot, more so than some cartoon.
I quite frankly find it very rude of all of you to keep asking who this person is as if you have no respect for the lives of other humans, that you would rather us rat that person out and not respect their wishes, just so you all can have comfort in a show that is bound to end at some point anyway.
I'm sorry but if you think he does you're fooling yourself, from what I've heard he is hardly ever around, and when he is he's in la la land.
Many people think the man want's the turtles to just go away so he can move on with his life, but it's the fans that keep pulling them back.
I miss him.
I speak with him every day, he also says things are not looking to bright.
And I will be conducting an interview with him very soon for my blog.
And as much as I love Dan and think he's a great guy, I think Tales was in much better hands under Murph.
I know that it's really frustrating that Mirage seems to be cancelling the new show, but maybe they just want to quit it before it becomes a bad show. I can get behind that.
And that's more than likely what's going on here.
And Laird is dropping Vol. 4, but there is no news on Tales ending. There seem to be some writers and artists with good ideas for Tales coming up.
Um, Rooish have you been living under a rock or what? Even Peter Laird and Trist who writes for tales has said the series is up in the air past 2009.
I wasn't saying it's canceled, I'm saying past that point they have no idea if it will or will not be around still.
Mirage will find something else, And Neca has allot going on not just with the Turtles, I just don't want them to end up like another great indy toy Company Palisades.
and good lord stop typing so much :P

Chances are we're talking to the same people, because I've heard all these things before, and well before they were posted on any of the blogs they were posted on.
NO comic has, or is being canceled. Even if the shows and toys came to an end, ultimately Peter makes the calls as to what happens in publishing, and until Peter tells you the book is canceled, or until you hear that Peter has said it explicitly, the comics will continue. I'm not basing this on my own perceptions either, this is straight out of Mirage. As I said, just because something hasn't been planned for beyond next year doesn't mean it isn't happening. What happens if you plan for 2010 and something unexpected happens in 09? You have to replan 2010, which could make things worse for people involved in those plans. Alternately, it could make things better, but you get my point.
I'm not mocking anyone, and I wouldn't even think of mocking you to be honest. Again, this is the biggest problem with the internet and forum talks: tone. Everything is too open to interpretation, and people are interpreting things the wrong way. It also strikes me as very odd that I've just handed in the script for next November's comics, and heard from Gary not two days ago about what is going on next year involving publishing, and people are telling me the comics are canceled.

I get your point here, but I don't get what we're supposed to do! I did defend Laird in my last post a bit, but I do agree that he's stubborn as hell and doesn't like to address fans' criticisms. I just don't see how management could possibly ever change at Mirage. Laird has participated in implementing a lot of things for fans recently, too--like the new comics, new toon, new movie, etc. so I must give him credit there. But it seems that whenever Laird gets criticized he just puts up walls and avoids the issue.
First off why would you ask Rose to tell you who this person is when I'm the person who is sharing this info?

All I said was there was no news on Tales ending, I wasn't saying it was definitely not cancelled, I just meant, there's no word that it's cancelled yet so there's no point assuming that aspect of TMNT is dead. And Tristan was who I was referring to when I spoke of the good ideas for Tales coming up. Of course we just learned that added info from him that he has a Tales issue planned for 2010, but he sure didn't seem to think, in previous posts, that either the Tales or the TMNT are dying.

Well Rooish, you've discovered the catch 22, which is a good first step. The only thing I can suggest for now is don't fall into the trap of blaming anyone else.
Laird has participated in implementing a lot of things for fans recently, too--like the new comics, new toon, new movie, etc. so I must give him credit there.
This is the credit people need to STOP giving him. Get over these things; they are all in the past and fan service was not a motivation for really any of it. The idea of fan service got the balls rolling again, but that's really where it stops.
But it seems that whenever Laird gets criticized he just puts up walls and avoids the issue.

Hardly, it's been going on for years, even when the show had a comfortable future. I'd say it's the culmination of years of tension combined with the last three years of indecision.
The days I had to spend months tearing fans against Laird apart in the comics over minor things like April' true origin and Laird's politics? I won't defend the company now for how they've handled things....this is stuff we SHOULD have complained about, but were too busy nit-picking at the little things

Well listen kiddies, we've had a good run. I'm not at all opposed to letting this new series die with dignity (though that's arguable, considering Fast Forward and all that sh*t.)
It's been a blast, but it's over.
Deal with it.
Tristan, yes I have not only bought and doubledipped the DVD's, but I have also bought numerous other things from this line and other TMNT lines over the years.
I own every OT toy, and DVD that is currently available.
However, we are talking about now. So let's go from 2003 and on.
- All single disc 2k3 episodes released.
- Every TMNT toy that has come out so far, 2k3 series, FF, movie.
- TMNT 1,2,3 on Gamecube all on day 1. 50 bucks each.
- TMNT 1,2 on Gameboy Advance all on day 1. 30 bucks each.
- TMNT 3 on Nintendo DS on day 1. 30 bucks.
- TMNT 2007 movie on DVD x2 (one for me, one for son,) and the Bluray version, all bought on day 1. 3 TMNT movie purchases for one household?
- Double dipping currently on the release of the 2k3 series in season form.
- Bought TMNT 1989 classic arcade.
- Bought TMNT on Xbox 360 on day 1. 65 bucks.
- Bought TMNT 2007 movie on Gameboy Advance on day 1. 30 bucks.
So yea, I would say that I have supported the brand. For what? To be pissed on, like other fans, on the only cartoon I ever cared about, for its 25th annivesary.
All I would like to know is, who ends up being responsible for this. 4kids? Mirage? Playmates? The best thing someone can do in the world, is tell me who ends up being responsible for this, and I swear on my 2 kids life, I will never support that company again, no matter what they bring to the table. Swears are something I never break.
For the record, growing up, my life was nothing but TMNT. Transformers? Passed. Thundercats? Passed. You name the cartoon, and I barely watched any of them, if any at all. TMNT was the cartoon I was just fine with, and to think Saturday mornings are going to be filled with crap, just doesn't make things good.
I just want to know who's throwing in the towel on this awesome brand, on its 25th birthday, so I can pay them in kind when they need it. Capitalists for the lose.
EDIT: Just to clarify... I wouldn't mind the show ending, and going out with dignity as someone else put it on this thread, but killing a show on its anniversary is dirty pool. LET THE SHOW have at least one more season during its 25th year, and then call. Let the show have a ninth season for September to December of 2009, then call it a good run. Don't kill the show midway.

Hey dude, there still seems to be some wiggle room. And some of us are fighting not only because the series is going to be canceled during its anniversary, but it seems like, as Jester said, it's all going down the crapper.
And nobody here knows me well enough, but I never give up without a fight. And I'm notoriously good at getting what I want if I actually put up a fight -even turning corporate heads.

As for the things that have been said about Laird and Richardson, yeah, I agree. I deeply respect Laird, and I've actually enjoyed (not ass-kissing, but actual enjoyment and appreciation for) every creative desicion he's made since the revival, with the sole exceptions of April's origin and removing tones. I like his work, I love that he funded Volume 4 out of pocket, I am no hater.
But even I have to admit that under the leadership of he and Richardson, promotion of the franchise has been piss poor. No trade paperbacks, no quality control with toys (so say the collectors who actually care), no movie promotion, no promotion of the comics at all. Is it their fault that the franchise seems due for a hiatus? I have no idea, but c'mon guys, you can do better.

Wow.. very interesting to see so much doom and gloom over the future of the TMNT franchise, even if the cartoon and vol. 4 end next year, I hardly see that as a death rattle for all of TMNT.
The cartoon has done remarkably well for action cartoon in this day and age, over 150 episodes, and a direct to tv special, Warner Bros doesn't give that type of treatment to their own DC properties.
As to the whos and whys, I did recieved this e-mail from Dan Berger a few weeks ago:
"The decision to do another season of TMNT lies in 4Kids' hands, so I'm afraid that we don't have any light to shed on the matter right now."
Despite TMNT being one of their highest rated shows, one look at all the Toy/Card based shows coming out this spring and the recent success of Chaotic, it's not hard to see why 4Kids is shelving the turtles, at least to see if they can get any of these other properties they are producing to take off.
As for the comics, Tristan did post this to his blog a week ago:
"I know there's a lot of doom and gloom circulating around the TMNT brand in spite of the upcoming TMNT 25th Anniversary, but what I've been hearing from Publishing and what I've seen has me excited.......there are a couple of things in line to happen next year that I think people have been worried about to a certain extent, that should please a number of them AND give a huge number of casual Turtle fans who also happen to be hardcore comic fans something they've been asking for for a while now."

"Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead, cultural anthropologist and outspoken academic.I'm sure Mrs. Mead would be proud to know that her quotes about civil disobedience are being used to melodramatically protest the cancellation of a children's cartoon.
Is it their fault that the franchise seems due for a hiatus (possibly, maybe, in the near future)? I have no idea, theses things happen, but c'mon guys, you can do better.

Wow. You certainly have. But with all that, I don't understand why you don't see fit to shell (no pun intended...serious!) out $4 on a comic book. At least that $4 is going straight to Publishing, whereas with the toys, games and DVD's, while there is a portion going to Mirage (TMNT is their property), you're still funding every other company that has a stake in each of those products.
I think if you like the cartoons, particularly the 2k3 series onwards, you'll really get a kick out of the comics. They're mixed, they tell the stories and there's no pandering to a specific target audience. Honestly, I think you'll find that the continuity isn't as big a deal as you seem worried about.
It's a bit of a mixed bag. Playmates and 4kids were both the driving forces behind the Fast Forward change. Lost Season WAS ready to go, but toy sales and ratings made Fast Forward a sudden priority. One could argue that Mirage made the call as well, but that said, had Fast Forward not happened and been as successful as it was, Lost Season probably wouldn't have gone to air, and neither would the BTTS season. Unfortunately it just seems like certain marketing aspects were poorly mishandled. By who, I can't say, because my main dealings are with Mirage Publishing, but I know that 4kids and Playmates both have huge says in what happens with the shows and toys (because, as everyone knows, the two go hand in hand), which was evident with Fast Forward.
I just want to know who's throwing in the towel on this awesome brand, on its 25th birthday, so I can pay them in kind when they need it. Capitalists for the lose.
Why would Mirage want to screw the pooch on their only property?
Wal-mart stopped carrying the toys.
4kids are not renewing the TV show.
To point the finger at one person or company in this situation is ridiculous, and ultimately, as Peter said, there are cycles to everything, and as I've been saying the whole time, plans take time to be put into action, and the results are never immediate. Patience is key until something OFFICIAL is said.

I think that error has been noted, and is definitely being rectified. Steps are being taken to really throw the comics back out in the larger comic book fanbase for the 25th anniversary, and yes, some will argue fairly that it's too late. Point is, it's happening, and people can either help or bail. So far I've heard that Newsarama, CBR, IGN, Shotgun Reviews, Wizard, Comics Continuum, and a number of other sites are lined up to help out.
What a lot of people don't seem to realise is that Publishing is a separate part of Mirage. There's Licensing and Publishing and I think another. Publishing exists almost entirely on Peter Laird's love for comics and his creations. He funds Tales and TMNT ongoing out of his pocket, usually at a loss. Publishing ends when Peter pulls the plug. But that said, Mirage Publishing needs Mirage, Inc. to continue funding books working at a loss. They can't afford lavish marketing unless the books warrant it and unless they can squeeze it into the budget.
This is a celebration of the Turtles in general, sure, but it all started with the comics, and chances are, they'll keep going even when the show is gone. I just hope people will find it in themselves to support Mirage directly by going straight to the source. If Gary and Peter and everyone else sees that there's growing support for the comics, where do you think the attention is going to turn? Word is that Playmates have already started turning their attention to the comics. If the comics take off again, people will take notice and sooner or later you'll have another boom. It's happened with X-men, Spiderman, Batman and it can happen with Turtles. It's just a matter of shifting focus.

There were so many unhappy comments about TMNT (mostly about FF and the Tribunal Saga), that I'm not surprised the big guys upstairs felt it was time to pull the plug. Complaining that a kids show is to kiddy?! Come on. I don't think we gave FF a chance.
Ah well. Like Kirby said to Don: "Life at best is bitter sweet."

This actually works in the favor of anyone who wants a PG-13 turtles movie.
Think about it, the series is canned then turtles is allowed to fade away for awhile. After a bit they can reestablish the turtles in a PG-13 movie and from there a new TV series could follow.
This is what they did with Spider-man and Iron Man so far. There's a new Batman show now too isn't there? And a new Transformers show right?
Sure turtles isn't as big as those, or maybe it is. You know I wore a turtles shirt today and I kid you not I had over 10 people say something to me about it and that's not counting the ones that starred or gave me a thumbs up when passing by. The public loves turtles and the series wouldn't still be on if the ratings were poor.
This was obviously choice by the creators of the show I can't see any way around it. I seem to remember it being the highest rated show on 4Kids last time around and still must be since FF is being re-run non-stop.
This could also be misinformation that someone heard wrong or a rash decision that was made quickly and might later be revoked. Maybe someone isn't happy with how the new series is turning out so far and jumping the gun a bit. There's a lot of possibilities and I'm sure many have been discussed in here already.
Kick back, relax, enjoy what we got, and hope for the best in the future.

The show has had a good run. I really don't mind that it may be ending. As long as it goes out on a strong note I'll be happy. I don't think that will be hard considering the quality of this season so far.
Just be glad we're not having the series end with a season where the guys team up with toddler versions of themselves.

The only thing we've heard is that Wal-Mart is dropping the toys and that the show hasn't been renewed. Playmates are supposedly making new figures based on the comic books, so the toys are still being produced, Ubisoft are still making games (I believe it's a Wii game), the comics are still going, DVD's will still be coming out, we just don't know either way what is going on with the cartoon show or how far into the future the figures will keep going. I had heard that Playmates were at a Toyfair this week, so I guess the future of the Turtles will be discussed afterwards.

For the record, growing up, my life was nothing but TMNT. Transformers? Passed. Thundercats? Passed. You name the cartoon, and I barely watched any of them, if any at all.

Well if it is up to them, and the decent ratings isn't enough to keep the show going for fans, then there is no reason for me to support capitalists who are all about their money. So when the money runs dry you just shun everyone? Can't rest on the laurels of your other properties to keep one that you have needed in the past, afloat? If this is truly the case, 4kids will never be tuned into again on my TV sets, and I'm always reporting to Nielsen one way or another.

I never doubted that we'd see another Turtles revival at some point, but I can totally see where you and Spitfire are coming from, saying that maybe the best thing for the Turtles now would be to only exist in comics (and movies?).

The big thing about the news sites is that the retailers frequent them as much as the readers. The more exposure for the Turtles, the more likely both readers and retailers are going to pay attention. Which means gradually the number of "My local comic shop guy won't stock them" or "my comic shop guy told me they don't make them anymore" (love that one).

You look at what Hollywood is doing: going straight to the source. If Mirage get the comics out in front of the right people, they're going to take notice. Right now though, the primary concern should be getting them out in front of people full-stop.
With Mirage trades too? In major bookstores? Please?
If the first wave of Mirage trades gets enough support, then the much deserving City At War story will likely be collected as well. I can't say anything about bookstores though, as I don't know any details beyond what is getting published. News will appear soon...

This thread is a little melodramatic..end of TMNT? it'll get revived soon enough the franchise is bigger than Laird and anyone else involved.
All cartoons get canceled eventually, most shows last 52/65 episodes max and those are popular shows. In fact since its revival it seems the new show has stayed mostly under the radar. Of course I would love the show to continue.
Toy line fading? how many years has it been out, playmates has blame of course but its kept strong for how many years now.
The comics were never selling and if DC/Marvel has troubles selling comics what do you expect of a lesser known title that not many people know of.
I admit that I don't know almost anything about Mirage but they're a company and I feel they've treated TMNT better than most other companies treat their franchises.

Hey, I don't doubt we'd ever see a TMNT series again... but that's years away. I still think canning the show just before the big blowout they have planned is a pretty disappointing idea.
Now, here's what I'm getting... it's either Mirage or Playmates decision (as far as speculation). I mean, the toys aren't selling well... double damned by a slow economy, and the fact they just don't care what they do anymore... and I could see someone at Mirage saying that it's a good way to end the series, and it's had enough of a run (i.e. the Jerry Seinfeld thing, where he didn't want to have the show go on further)
I wonder if our 4Kids rep has discussed it with any of the higher ups yet. The only thing that confuses me is it seems he didn't know. Either 4Kids didn't plan on saying anything about it yet, or they actually don't know about plans to end the series here.

If there is another season we wouldn't even start working on it until next year.
Considering that this season isn't even finished yet - it is still being animated as I write this - and the special thing (whatever that is) is coming up... there is plenty of stuff to look forward to and plenty of work for us to do before we even begin thinking about the next season and beyond.

I'm glad that you're on board to give us the news. And yes, we shouldn't start panicking, even though this is coming from someone who panics like Wade Duck. The season isn't even over yet. Even if this is the end, I'll bet it will be something fitting.
Plus, that special thing sounds good.

Y'know, I'm going to follow in your suit and match your mood, but I'm still going to champion for the Turtles everywhere I can. Not only would it build up for the 25th anniversary, but if things do go sour, there will be a legion of fans to try to set things right.

I say one more season of BTTS then call it quits. Just so long as the let us the audiance know it's the last season so we can get geared up for and cherish what we got. And if they do decide to do another season that's the series finale, I hope they span it out more than just 13 episdes and go out with a bang, with some fan service.
Kick back, relax, enjoy what we got, and hope for the best in the future.
that's the best thing right now.
and to Maryshines comment about Raphael getting his own season. I say, enough single turtle focus seasons. Lets just show them all growing and maturing and maybe a few indivual character arcs focusing on each character. Also-this is coming from Raphael fan-I a little tired of Raph suffering through his issues and being an angst machine. I want him to be happy now and see him comfertable as the mature level headed grown up turtle that he's become instead instead of the forever angry, always storming out, petulant teenage turtle.

Last night on Peter Laird's blog:
IS this the last toon series we're going to see?
I don't know for sure, but I doubt it.
Now, I don't know what context this was taken in... by toon series is it meant as in 2K3, Fast Forward, Back to the Sewer, et cetera, or is it as in 1987, 2K3, et cetera?

I think he meant a TMNT cartoon in general.
Meaning theoretically there could be a third TMNT cartoon years down the road with a different company.
But we all probably figure that'll happen, I'm concerned if this is the end of the 2k3 series. I have this nagging feeling that if there ever is a third cartoon someday, it won't be as good as this one was, and it'll only last 52 eps before it gets cancelled. We were really lucky to get the 155 episodes that we did.

Well, if it's true, I can't say I'm surprised. If the cartoon had stayed on track with the 2K3 stuff? Yeah, I woulda been surprised. But the quality has gone down exponentially. E
nding on a high note would have a been a few years back.
But still, sort of sad to see it go. Shame it had to happen on an anniversary year; I think that's the biggest regret.
I love the TMNT, and hope they can continue and up their standards and writing back to the 2K3 level, if not higher, and save the cartoon.
and the special thing (whatever that is) is coming up...
I really hope that isn't the Casey/April abomination wedding. ;)

You even saying this, is better then the negativity we've been hearing.
Just you mentioning IF we do another season, means you have it on your mind.
I would hope the show could stay on the air for as long as it's pulling decent ratings, but if the show must end, don't do it until after the anniversary. Then we would have had an excellent 25th.

I'm sorry, but Vaughn? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you've never exactly been the Bob Woodward for the board, or even its April O'Neil (old toon, of course); where was this source of yours when we had all the uncertainty about what season 7 actually entailed? What makes you privileged enough to get information that nobody else, not even people with proven connections, know about, and to disseminate it? Either produce some information about his source--a specific company and position would be sufficient--or there is absolutely no reason to classify anything you say on the matter as anything other than rumors. Only the fact that you're a long-time and well-respected member of the community, and the belief that you're not acting maliciously, prevents me from automatically believing you're trolling.
If you do reveal this source of yours in your blog, I'll shut my mouth off and apologize. However, as things currently stand, I see no reason to give credence to your reporting.
Yes, there is no Season 8 currently in the wings, as Peter Laird has confirmed. This isn't exactly rare--the current Spider-Man cartoon is currently in the same position. What's more, there is no sign that 4Kids' support for the series has waned since the big advertising push for Back to the Sewer. Given that and the strong possibility of a second movie, there's little reason reason to believe that 4Kids would not eventually green-light another season down the line. Would we have to wait for it? Sure. May other factors intervene to make another season not viable (which is 4Kids' main concern) sure. However, at this moment, we simply do not know.
Even if a season 8 doesn't occur--and I do honestly want it to, since I believe that there are more stories yet to tell--it seems that this season is being designed so that it can work as an ending of sorts. Given how good the series has generally been, and how long its lasted, I'd be satisfied if it ended now. The gloom and doom atmosphere here, I feel, is unwarranted, and whats more, is counter-productive. Chin up! Back straight! Things are not nearly as bad as you think they are.

Why am I not surprised? I had a feeling they would end pretty soon. I guess the TMNT universe will go back into those "lost years" again, or something of the sort. A little wierd that vol. 4 is going to be wrapped up in the same year as well when it comes to the 25th anniversary. Let's hope this shell-ebration is worth the wait.

Considering Laird gets out about two Vol. 4 issues a year, it probably won't end till 2010.

This isn't exactly rare--the current Spider-Man cartoon is currently in the same position.
And it's MUCH liklier it's going to get the axe. Greg himself confirmed almost everyone has either moved on to new projects or been laid off. If it comes back, it'll be with a heap of changes. Marvel don't seem to be interested in promoting any intent on saving it either
And Vaugh isnt going to give into your intimdating demands, NO source can be named in these circumstances because thier job would be on the line if his/her name slipped. Don't be a damn idiot. You can refuse to beleive Vaugh all you want, but he's going to keep his integrity before satisfying people with no integrity at all.

You know that's a good mood to have, but I'm going to say this right now that anyone who thinks just because I've been posting bad news that mean I'm being negative or wanting the destruction or death of TMNT is fooling themselves.
I also hope we do get more seasons of the show and I hope they give in and let amazing characters like Armaggon into the show.

I'm not going to do that & I'm not sorry, it is not up to me and I do not plan to jeopardize any of my contacts or friendships.
If my friend wants to come out about whom they are, if they want to that is up to them.
They have a great deal of respect for me and what I do and my amount of respect knows no bounds when it comes to this person.
I trust them and over time our friendship and trust has grown immensely thus this is why I did not report on any information in the past on insider information as I did not have as close a contact with them as I did before.
They want you all to know goings on and not left in the dark on things be they good or bad.
Would you rather me not share this information with you folks? Because I can if you like?
Perhaps we should do a poll and vote on if you folks think I should continue sharing this information with you guys or if I should keep to the pages of my blog.

I don't think we need to worry about Volume 4 ending very soon as it takes Peter some time to get them done.

Maybe I'm just not high up enough on the totem poll - but this is news to me (and the shows production coordinator and producer...)
But who knows how things will pan out, eh?
We still have plenty of episodes to go this season - and of course that other thing. So there is still plenty to look forward to.
That's all I need to hear. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Thanks 4kids!

This is all still too random for my liking. I'm waiting for the official press release of exactly why this decision was made. As I said before it's possible it's a misunderstanding such as the new movie mishap but something about this reeks.
I still stand by what I said, the creators want to re-vamp the series and realize they can't do it in it's present state. Honestly they need to do something this instability is annoying.
