Purple-Armoured Super Shredder

Does anybody here actually have one? I know it's been discussed a few times as appearing in loose lots (the only evidence I have of this are images I saved when they were initially posted on the forums), but I've only seen it myself in huge, expensive carded lots. I normally ask if the lot doesn't sell, if they'd be willing to sell just that one figure to me (long shot, but never hurts to ask). I've actually gotten people that agree to do so, but say they have the lot to auto-relist x amount of times, and it always ends up relisting over and over until someone buys the lot. I believe I was once told it was released somewhere in Europe.

Seems like a strange choice for a variant. Almost seems like the purple plastic was cheaper to obtain at the time and Playmates didn't want to take as big of a chance since they didn't know how well the figures would do there.

Yes, I keep finding blasted new things all the time.
As you know I'm really big on those figures that came with the collector cards and I just recently found a shogun donatello with a second version collector card as well as a robotic bebop with a first version collector card.
And I had never seen them until this year, blows my mind because I used to buy these things by the case.

Well, like I said, a long time ago, I saw someone post pictures about it here at the Drome, asking if it was a bootleg. I can't remember for the life of me where at, though. Or maybe I'm just that much of a ninja. :lol:

As for the blacksuit Super Shredder... I don't have one myself, but it can show up on eBay for cheap... I'm still kicking myself for not bidding on that one that ended up selling for $7.95... then again, I had an unexpected expense that month and couldn't reallocate the cash >.<

I'm praying that this will be able to be resolved, and I am able to obtain the purple-armoured variant soon.

Dude that is rough - I hope you can at least get a refund, I would dog on them pretty hard about it. I recently got sent a Farmer Mike & Tractor instead of a MIB Ninja Grapplor because the seller mixed up the address labels. Needless to say, I was pretty ticked off, since I already had the damned Tractor and obviously the Grapplor is a much, much cooler toy.

Luckily, I was able to resolve this, but it was a pain since the seller then had ME ship the tractor to the right buyer, (though I was refunded) and I had to worry for like a week if I was actually going to get my Grapplor, or if this dude who got my Grapplor was going to go ahead and keep both of them and just SAY he'd shipped the Grapplor.

They did offer a refund, but it's just the fact that something that I have been questing for, for so long, that nobody at the 'Drome even owns, is now in the hands of the unknown.

I once ended up with one of those giant motorized Paleo Patrol Triceratops with the packed-in Raph (from a different vendor) instead of the standard Paleo Patrol Raptor, but I kept it because essentially, I paid $8 for something they were selling for $25. I ended up getting the Raptor later anyway.

But this is a horse of a different colour.

Dude, that sucks big time. That happened to me sometime last year when I won a pop-display splinter and got just a regular one instead. Turns out they had just copied someone elses pic and used it in thier auction thinking it was no big deal. In the end, I got my money back but it still sucked.

yeah we are pretty sure it's a europe only release. However, it is not the standard European Super Shredder. It is a (from what we can tell) very very very very very very limited release color variant. At this point I'm pretty convinced they may have been error figures as opposed to known variants, making it that much more limited in release.

That's right, I got him! and you wouldnt believe just how unique this figure really is. as you can see, he comes with blue weapons. but sadly, he only has one canister of ooze and it's probably going to take me a while to track down another one. his armour is made with a soft rubber, so it's more flexible than the standard Super Shredder release. and that's not all, the real interesting thing about this figure is that his arms are molded in one solid piece, so the forearms don't swivel like the regular Super Shredder. yeah, you read that correctly. his forearms don't rotate, but the rest of the articulation is there.

funny you should mention that... heres a pic from the auction that I got him in. the only other variants that I noticed were mainly on Rahzar, and Casey's shirt was a slightly darker shade of blue. and no, the regular Shredder doesn't have a variant cape, it's just a Batman one the original owner used.

Rahzar has a really dark grey chestplate and armour. he also comes with blue weapons. which I find to be rather common among the foreign releases. (pics below) also, the skull is missing the mandible. and Rahzar suffers from the same lack of articulation as the Super Shredder above. meaning that his forearms don't rotate either.

so far Ive only seen the purple armour Super Shredder a few times. so Id say that he's still hard to find. but Ive come across a few blue weapon variants for Slam Dunkin' Don, Shell Kickin' Raph, and Slash. Im guessing that it was cheaper for foreign countries to produce all the weapons in one colour as well as limit the articulation on the figures.

the bad news - and theres plenty of it. first, if english is the only language you speak, then your chances of getting one of these are slim. I saw quite a few things that I wanted to bid on so I emailed the sellers for permission, but most of them didn't bother to reply. and the few that did knew very little english. which Im guessing is why most of them didn't write back. so communication is tough. second, if you are allowed to bid and you actually win then prepare to wait a loooooog time before you get your package. it took 52 days to get to me. Im not joking. and the really bad news... there might actually be a variant to the purple armour Super Shredder. here is another one I saw recently, you'll notice that his armour is a darker purple than the one i got. now it might just be the lighting conditions in the pic, but I could swear that it's a different shade of purple or is it just me? too bad I wasnt allowed to bid on this one so that I could compare them.

For six months (yes, prior to creating this thread... the reason I did create it was because I thought someone else would know about it and know how to get one), I checked eBay three times a day, every day, searching with the term of "Shredder", and then in every single lot, on nine different eBay national sites (US, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, Mexico) only ceasing in March because of financial/time restraints. And when I thought that I did find one, I got the standard Super Shredder.

Regarding the soft plastic armor, I'm not sure that that's unique to the purple SS. The first SS I acquired for my current custom had some pretty soft armor -- way softer than the armor on the second SS figure that I acquired. It's weird.

I don't believe in luck. and i'll tell you one thing... you're looking in the wrong places. ;) and I didn't even know that some of the countries you listed even had ebay. and heres a tip, don't waste your time looking in Canada. I know cause I live here. :lol:

the standard Super Shredder armour was made with PVC and it could bend to a certain point without damaging it, but this armour can bend all the way back with minimal effort. id compare this material to a cheap latex. it looks like it could tear really easy.

and the price is not important. lets just say that it was less than Archon just offered me. ;)



Im trying to get a loose mint one, so this might take a few of them before I can do that. as you can see above, the one I got has some paint wear on the hands. now of course this is common with all loose Super Shredders but Im still going to try to get a mint one. after I have one, i'll be glad to sell any extras that I may have, but not until I get one that Im satisfied with. not to mention that Im obviously still looking for a carded one and the new variant, and giving myself competition is not exactly the smartest thing to do, so everyone else will have to wait.

and on a side note, Im kinda shocked that no one gives a sh*t about the Rahzar variant. after all, it was undocumented until now.

actually, Im worried that the blades might break cause the rubber is weak. so far there arent any cracks yet, but I don't want to handle it too much cause it's so fragile. it's hard to believe that it's almost 20 years old.

Paint's a bit worn on the fingertips, and the only accessory he came with was the communicator, but everything else looks ship-shape. Which is good, because most of the rest of the stuff in the box was filthy and/or broken. Box looks like it went through Hell, too.

Anyway, I will answer any questions anyone has about it. I will answer this outright: no, I will not sell it, and there is little in this world that I would trade it for.

yup, I got both variants carded! YAY! a while back I thought there was a new variant purple armour Super Shredder but I couldnt prove it existed cause I wasnt allowed to bid on it and I only had a small pic (http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u35/siths/a46a_12.jpg). but now I can confirm that there are 2 Super Shredder variants with distinctly different shades of purple armour. the lighter one has a near mint card and a clear bubble. but sadly, the darker one has a really beat up card, and as you can see the card is slightly faded. and the bubble is cracked and yellowed. at first I thought the yellow bubble was creating the illusion that the armour was darker, but once I turned it sideways you could see that it's actually the same colour on all angles of the armour. once I get another carded one in better condition Im probably going to open this one cause I need a loose one with this shade of purple armour anyway.

I admit that I paid a heavy amount to get them. there are 2 people that know what I paid for them and they think Im f*cking nuts. but in my opinion they're really rare pieces so I didn't mind paying alot for them, cause if you really want something then the price shouldnt matter. besides, there are plenty of reasons why it's worth the price.

first of all, we already know that they were a foreign release, and foreign countries usually have a much lower production run than America cause their fan base isnt as large as it is in the States. so they only make enough to meet the demand for their own country. and I think it's fair to say that these variants are actually a production error cause we know for a fact they later corrected it and made the armour silver, but theres no telling how many purple ones in both shades were produced before they realized it. and of the unknown number that were produced, most of them were probably opened and played with, so Im guessing that after almost 20 years there are not that many MOC samples left out there.

anyway, now I just need a carded Rahzar variant. :D

I just read this whole thread, and when I saw Sarah's pic of the 2 carded ones, my heart actually skipped a beat, and I almost teared up (poor Ninji,btw, I am the one that tagged on your mailbox j/k.). Very nice find! You are right about getting things you want though, you only live once. Plus you are kind of like preserving a piece of TMNT history. I don't know much about this, but can something like this be graded?

Woah, two? Nice! I really don't care which one I'd get if I had the opportunity. The only problem is, whenever I see one of these in an auction, it always ends up going for way more than I'm willing to part with for a toy. I have a pretty strict limit for myself.

true, but my husband doesn't care about TMNT so he hates it when I drop that much cash for TMNT figs. but if I spend $500 on Star Wars stuff he wouldnt complain.

as Archon has said, yes they can be graded. however, we've had items graded by AFA before and we werent too happy with the results. but if I was going to get them graded the one with the lighter armour would probably grade at a 80 cause card is unpunched and has almost no wear to it, and it has a clear bubble. but the one with darker armour would probably grade at a 40 or lower due to the condition of the package. although Im sure that the sub-grade for the figure itself would be a 90 unless of course I wanted to get it graded as a loose piece in which case I would send it to them and they would open it themselves and grade it at a U85 which is the best grade for loose figures.

No pics right now but keep in mind that even in not-pristine condition they're still gonna run a pretty penny due to the demand for them.

One has a broken leg that's been glued back on and the other is missing a shinguard. Both have minor paint wear to the fingertips and minor roughage on the armor, and these are actually both par for the course for this particular figure. I've never seen an OOP PASS with pristine armor and hands.

Silly question: Is there a way to take the 2 broken figures and make one less broken... ie. take the leg with the shin guard from the glued leg and put it on the one that doesn't have a broken and glued leg but no shin guard?
