Howdy Folks,

I was a total nerd for Playmates' initial series of Ninja Turtles figs; from the four brothers to Ace Duck and Mutagen Man, I bought every figure they produced for quite some time.

One thing I never bought, though, was duplicates of Leo, Don, Mike and Raph.

I was content with the original versions, and really, the nonstop Turtle variants didn't become prominent until after I'd quit collecting.

I was aware of some of the duplicates, though, and while most of them looked somehow cheesy and/or more toylike than the originals, others seemed pretty cool; where I have always hated any and all transforming Turtles figures (the sculpts are inevitably clunky and awkward), I thought the Turtles with storage shells were cool.

Since I no doubt missed many a highlight, I thought I'd ask you lot to share some of your favorite vintage sculpts of the four Turtles.

Photos would of course be appreciated, but simple lists can suffice, if necessary.

Thanks!

-Monte

My favorite old school sculpts would be the movie turtles and werewolf Leo. So much details, awesome! They sure don't make 'm like they used to.

I too sort of shied away from the turtles in different outfits. I always wanted the plain versions, but as mine got old and broken I would use either the opening shells or the head droppin ones because they looked "normal" I always did however like some of the different turtle types like the rock and roll ones not so much the rapin mikethought. Also the Beach Combin ones where they shot water out their mouths were so cool! When I was a kid I didn't have many different figures outside of the characters in the episodes. So ones like Metal Head I had but I mainly liked the strait up shredder bebop and rocksteady fighting the normal turtles.

I always loved those movie figures, too. They were easily the best sculpts of the vintage line, in my opinion. Hell, they're a bit squat-looking today, but otherwise they still look great.

Alas, I only ever found three of them...

The monster figures I don't remember. Looking at them now, I don't know how I'd have woven them into my collection, but they did indeed look cool:

Creature From the Black Lagoon Leo was a trip, too:

I loved the idea of the storage shells. But either Storage Shell Raph or the Raph with the pizza-shooting backpack thing had a weird sculpt; his tongue was sticking out, and he just looked too exaggerated and stylized.

I liked Pizza-Face and still do. He'd be perfect if his other accesories were in full colour.

(I'd never heard of him before.)

(Also, he's not a Turtle. ;) )
