From The Turtle Van (http://theturtlevan.blogspot.com):

Last week I emailed Dan Berger in regards to the fabled Warrior Rahzar with fur prototype. I thought you guys would be interested to see the conversation:

Hi Dan,

It's Stephan Reese. I'm not sure weve talked about the topic before, but I am an avid collector of vintage tmnt prototypes and wax sculpts. Recently I was able to add the unreleased versions of both pizzaface and casey jones to my collection (heres some pics: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v247/JNCOPosterboy/The%20Collection/Vintage%20Protos/)

Anyway, the reason I'm emailing you is that I would desperately like to add the Warrior Rahzar with Fur Prototype to my collection. Providing you still have it, I'd like to offer you (Price Edited Out) for it. Let me know what you think!

Thanks!

Stephan

His Response:

We've never had one - the pic on the site is taken from a Playmates Toys catalog. Some people believe that it was never released, but I thought I saw one at a Dollar-type close-out store at one point - unfortunately I didn't buy it if I did. My memory is pretty lousy, though, so I could be mistaken and it may have never been released.

Thanks for writing!

Cheers!

Not the response I was hoping for obviously. But interesting that these may have had an extremely limited release. I however, remain skeptical. Even so, if anyone CAN produce one of these figures, please let me know!

Well, this last week showed us a figure that neither one of us knew existed, so theres no harm in putting the offer out there. No need to get hostile cowboy. Besides. Someone has to have that prototype.

Well, thats cool that you asked. I agree that at least the proto should be around somewhere. After all, the pic in the catalog had to come from somewhere. Then again, who knows if it survived. Good luck on the hunt!

Playmates themselves told me directly in the past that those 2 figures did not make it past the prototype stages, which is stupid because they're just repaints pretty much.
I'm not hostile but I have told Dan this information tuns of times now and have suggested that he instead make an unreleased and prototypes page for the figures so as not to confuse fans.
There has been a sh1t load of toys that made it to the prototype stages some I just recently found out about via catalogs, I'm sure if Prototypes exist you'll get em' Archon.

I got very confused when writing the figure list on the TMNT Wiki and I'm pretty sure I still have one or two things wrong on there.

It is likely that there was never a prototype in the way that there is for other figures since they were not making a new sculpt for this figure. And I'm guessing that they still had the mold available from the original Rahzar. The ability to cut costs by using preexisting molds is the whole reason for doing repaints/modified figures such as this. However, there obviously are some form of test shots that were done since photos exist of the mock-up.

Actually it almost looks like they used the mutation version of the figure as a base. The chest plate seems to be quite a bit larger than the standard figure.

Nah, it's the normal Rahzar figure.
