View Full Version : If you could make Knockoffs

If you had the means to knockoff any TMNT toy you want, give them a new coat of paint and maybe a size/down on the scale side - Which toys would you bootleg?

Especially as a fan, you'd have more the culutural capital to know what would rake in the money at the poundshops/dollar stores etc rather than any noob who bootlegs a toy for the sake of it. :) Hence this thread ;)

I would make giant versions of more of the old Playmates figs. I've been wanting one of those knock-off Giant Splinters for a while.

Why not Giant Leatherhead? Giant Shredder? Giant Baxter the Fly? Giant Usagi? I could go on and on.

I second the motion for more giant figs.
I'd also settle for bootleg versions of some rare and unreleased stuff. The thing I've always wanted was the Muta Party Wagon.

I'd paint them all orange and call them Schmeenage Schmutant Schimnja Schmurtles.

Come on... it's a lot more creative than most of the other things I've seen.

Maybe give them some sort of inferior plastic or something.

I'd make Saint Turtle figures. I know Archon has bootlegs of ST, and I'd kill to get my hands on them, as well as the real deal. So the next best thing would be to mass produce knockoffs of my own. I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.

If you limit it to the normal means of bootlegging (that is modifying existing toys), I would produce two items: scaled down versions of the body that they used for Crashin' Thrashin' Mikey to make super articulated Turtles and multi-packs of some of the army builder figures such as Foot Soldiers, Triceratons, and Mousers.

Oh God, yes. It always made me sad that Playmates never did army builder sets. Hell, even if they had four packs with four different army members (like Foot Ninja/Foot Tech/Utrom/Triceraton), that would be great!

Mini Mutants should at least be doing that.

I'd do a Foot Mystics set and call it something cheesy like Weather Warriors. Let's not forget some of the amusing names bootlegged toys have :)

Ha ha ha exactly.

Which brings me to ponder why, if they already had prototypes/mockups of all of the Mystics, they never released any past the Fire one... I know a lot of figures have slipped through the cracks, but those are just damn repaints! Once I have enough Fire Mystics to work with, I'm confident I could bang out one Mystic custom an afternoon!

Make a 6 inch Super Shredder to tower over the turtles. Plus I would call it Ninja Shredder Samurai.

If I was to make a line of inferior plastic action figures than the norm that had shotty paint jobs, a lack of detail, and over use of molds but having minor difference between mold castings to claim it was a different figure... I'd my toy line...

POS Plastic Psamaurai Pals from Playmates.

Except only half the announced figures would be made.

Half? That's pretty generous.

Playmates original Foot Soldier Army Builder Boxed Sets (5-10 figures in a box, with tons of weapons, and all kinds of crazy colors as seen in the video games).

I'd call my rip offs "Super Shinobi Adventure Team".

Personally, I'd love to see bootlegged TMNT toys on that plain card that says "Space" on it. Anyone ever see that? I remember seeing bootlegged Battle Toads labeled "Space"

I would bootleg many of them to look more like the cartoons, comics and movies.

Know what would be fun? Anyone have a Chinatown or Chinese district, and ever walk into one of those stores that has questionable clones of licensed products? I'd love to see some knockoff SD Turtles, like the SD Garfields, Snoopy's, and Star Wars episode 1 Characters I've seen.

That stuff isn't half as cool as the Caucasian Chef from South Park sticker. Wish I got that one.

I would probably re-release characters like Triceratons, Drako etc. but retooled so they're much bigger!

Klunk would be easy by just repainting of one of the Kitty in my Pocket toys.

I'll make some FF remakes and call them Avenger Terrapins.
