Yeah Planning to do the same if they ever make it to store shelves.

I'm gonna point my finger once again at Gary, omgz 2009 is our shellibration let's wait to release everything then and let the market go dry with nothing new out for months, no dvds, no new shirts, no toys! Man it's gonna be great when everything floods in all at once in 2009.:dead:

Yeah, it's a real mistake to literally wait until 2009 for everything to even start (and I'm not convinced there's even going to be a flood of stuff then). And it sounds like they're waiting until May, the technical actual anniversary date, to even start doing anything worthwhile. Everything should be getting into swing right now, but instead they're just letting everything die and no one's gonna care about Ninja Turtles by the time they finally want people to. But they can't write enough press releases already patting themselves on their backs.

I just want The Forever War and Mirage at Comic-Con and I'll be happy.

They wait this long and can't even get the colors right? The hell Playmates?! I mean, their not even remotly right. The colors make them look like more damn extreme sport variants. That said, I do like the remolds done. I'd like to see better pics before I judge the Shedder and Foot. Why does that build-a-figure-you-already-own-in-better-colors take up half the page? I may get Leo for a custom, but I don't think I'm getting any others. If their not going to make the effort to make them look right, I'm not going to make the effort to buy them.

No wonder Wal-Mart's dropping <_<

EDIT: Btw, it doesn't help that TMNT shares it's anniversary with Transformers (also their 25th), who have already done more than TMNT's companies have shown or even hinted at.

Well looks like Im gonna be getting me the Cyber Shredder for sure.

Cyber Mikey looks majorly demented and kinda evil. :o
Leo looks like he belongs in the Star Wars Universe in an X-Wing Fighter.
Don and Raph looks like they're just coming out of the X Games or something.

So all in all...I'll probably just end up getting Cyber Shredder. Im just pissed that Splinter is a fraking build-a-figure. :/

The Cyber Turtles are complete trash... but Cyber Shredder actually looking approximately like the one on the show? That really impresses me. They set the bar that low.

But, seriously... what the shell is cyber about those turtles? They don't look a damn thing even close to the series. They look like they're about to play football for the Palo Alto Metallics or something....

they went stupid on the cyber turtles and splinter... but i would probably get the cyber foot and the cyber shredder. or maybe ill get all of them just for the splinter. :dead:

They arn't exact by any means, but I'm excited! I'll pick them all up. I love going to the store and having new figures on the shelves. The build a splinter is actually a cool idea, in my opinion.

You know,

After getting this new show, I think I'm all Turtle-d Out of Turtle Merchandise anyway. My last Turtle Figure was Hamato Yoshi...I wanted to get all the Mystic Foot, but didn't even see them on the shelves...so I just stopped trying to 'collect them all'..

I'll support any new movies and future TV shows...not to mention video games if they are good. But as of now, I'm done buying the more basic turtle merchandise such as toys unless it's something REALLY cool that NECA puts out.

Once you realize that the person running things is an idiot (Re:Gary), why bother supporting that? From all I gathered, he's one of the laziest executives going when it comes to creating new ideas and actually promoting the brand..A Slightly more dedicated Swamp Gas salesman :). Does anyone actually KNOW how he became Mirage CEO anyway? Was he a relative of someone in Peter Lairds family, and Peter just went 'OK, no one else is applying for the job, you've got it!' Anyone can travel the country/world and go to meetings. It takes REAL HARD WORK and Brains to get creative...and until Gary does that, Mirage is better off with someone else.

Wow...Those are the S!!!!!tiest pieces of crap that have ever been pooped out of Playmates yet. Sorry for the language, but did Playmates even TRY to get creative with these things?

Peter Laird, if THIS doesn't convince you that Playmates is a BAD thing for the Turtles, nothing will. Forget about Past History and loyalty,......Think about the future of the brand.

OMG! why are they still using those movie figures?! The turtles look awful! I might just get Cyber Shredder and Cyber Foot and repaint them because they are the only ones that look cool enough to buy. God! what is up with you playmates. when are you gona wake up and smell the coffee?

I'm not a toy collector, so I won't be getting these either way, but I just thought I'd ask: Is it possible these aren't the final colors? If the chest plates and helmets on the Turtles were just colored in, you'd have something reasonably accurate. The patterns are all there.

They also appear to have weird grooves on their feet. (Is that normal? I've never seen a movie figure up close.) Could that be a sign that there will be further painting/attachements to the legs?

They say a picture is worth a 1000 words...so...
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Jesterangelo/CyberTurtles.jpg

They almost got the helmets sort of right... but they really SHOULD have been attatched completely to the heads. I mean, there's that mask part that looks like you can pull the top of the head off... just affix the helmets there, and paint the eyes on that...

Everything else screams "We slapped metallic plastic on everything! OOOH Cyber-ness!"

They could have acutally reused the FF toys for something more accurate... but accurate isn't what they want. They want whatever they can pretend to care to sell to kids.

And if they reuse the hell out of the movie sculpts, they could at LEAST lower the price to 6 bucks a figure, instead of raising them back up around 10.

But the fact they pulled the CyberShredder and Foot Soldier (which was, what? in one episode for 5 seconds?) out of their asses and made them look like new figures amazes me... they've set the bar THAT LOW....

Even if they still feel they need to go with Playmates, they should fire the guy in charge. Is there some new job requirement that forces everyone to be completely apathetic towards their work? Cuz I'm sick of seeing it. And not just here... it seems everyone is dangerously unqualified or dangerously apathetic.....

No, they more than likely will skimp on the paint even more than this when they come out.

Sweet, my dream of Special Olympics Turtles has finally come true!

I'm not the only one to see that, am I? The movie turtle toys have always looked a little special with their eyes so far apart, but the helmets put them over the top.

11-13-2008, 08:01 PM
Well damn if I buy those cyber turtles there's some more customizing jobs that I have to do. I'm making the Turtle's in their foot gear from Btts using Ff toys then I'm going to buy cyber Shredder and Cyber foot and I will have to customize those so.... Why does Playmates have to be so damn lazy?!!

odupianist
11-13-2008, 08:12 PM
Everyone who wants to customize these to look right, I say this... just buy the regular movie figure and use other equipment. I mean I'm sure you can find better armor than Playmates has

I have not bought a figure since the Jungle Leo and I only bought that because I thought it was well done.

This? What is this? This looks like a four-year-old took some paint and plastered it randomly all over. Hell, the four-year-old could be probably more creative than this. It's a disaster.

And I was so looking forward to getting a new Leo figure.

It would be impossible for them to look worse.

I mean, even reusing the movie sculpts, something we all should have guessed (and something I guessed) stuck metal bits on their chests and called it "Armor." This is just absolutely lazy. Though, once again, I'm impressed Cyber Shredder isn't just that translucent blue crap slapped onto it.

Yeah I'll probably pick up Cyber Shredder, but not because I think it's an awesome figure. Because I have a weakness for Shredder toys and I don't like not having one I can easily get my hands on.

I think they missed a golden opportunity here with the Build-A-Figure. I see where they were going with Splinter, and data-bits and whatnot, and collecting his pieces to make the figure. But wouldn't it have been so much cooler to make Shredder the BAF, and then he could have been much bigger than all the other figures and maybe just a wee bit more accurate to the toon.

I posted the protos of this back in early October (lifted from the daily news on the official site), and it looks like they did the intelligent thing by at least recoloring Cyber Shredder red. I'm not a toy-collector, so I'm not gonna sift through all these comments to see if it's been said already. For those who aren't aware, these are supposed to be mini-figures. Buy all six to build Splinter. It says so here (http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=20&itemid=13528).

gobo, did you read the update that came to that same page about a day later?

Update: The folks at Playmates have let us know that due to some pricing issues the "Build-A-Figure" Cyber Splinter pieces will come packaged with their full-size Cyber Turtle figures, and not the mini-figures shown below as we originally reported.

What Vaughn posted are the full-size deals.

Ninjinister

I actually think it's better that the Cyber Splinter pieces come with the full-sized figures, though. The way it was before, the Splinter pieces would replace the second figure in the Mini-Mutant two-packs. This means that even if they're crappy, we'll still end up with eight new Mini-Mutant figures instead of six.

Jester
11-14-2008, 05:48 PM
I agree too...if only because it seemsa weird for a typical sized Splinter to be built by buying mini figures...then you'd have a huge Splinter towering over the turtles. :P

Hasbro would do something good. Mattel, i couldn't help think would be actually WORSE than playmates. I mean, Lead painted versions of the same characters at 15 bucks each, and a sexist biased against female, even major female, characters? And they wouldn't get into any stores.... I mean, they've been doing such a great job with the DC line that no one can remember what they did to Shonen Jump's toy lines.

Of course, I can understand why no one remembers them..... I couldn't find them until the One Piece line hit the dollar store...

Playmates may suck, but not as bad as Mattel's non DC lines.

I think we discussed before that both Mattel and Hasbro have faults of thier own and why they would'nt do much of a better job than Playmates. However, maybe a new company would be better and fresher.

Mattel are taking over the WWE toyline in 2010 and judging from thier press release months ago they have good aspirations for the new figures. Perhaps if they go by thier word, I would have more faith in them doing a TMNT line. As it stands Mattel have still left He-Man fans with a bad taste in thier mouths over the bad marketing of the excellent 2002 toys.

I wonder whose job it is to kick Playmates up the rear. Surely they must hold stock holders meetings and the like to notice the problems.

Business Apathy.... I'm coining that phrase. It's basically in situations like this where the heads of the business don't care, and don't even care about Making money. Unless the money drops out of the sky without any hard work, they could care less.

Playmates was desperately trying to convince itself their was a second movie coming out in the next 2 years... the ONLY reason why they're still desperately clinging to the molds.

It seems the BTTS toys were made only to fulfill a contractual obligation. Almost as if they didn't care about even making them. I predict after Christmas, no one will even want to sell the TMNT lines anymore. Not just WalMart.... I could see them being pulled from Target and K Mart as well.

Vegita-San

Sad but true, Dr.Tooth. And in this case, even the fans side with the retailers about this new line being crap. If the fans don't want to buy it, why should the stores stock it?

There's no real drive or motivation at Mirage, Playmates, 4Kids, etc....

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The line that somehow survives as everyone else is doing it's best to kill it ;)..

Drtooth
11-18-2008, 01:00 PM
4Kids, yes. Everyone else I agree with. mainly since that's all 4Kids seems to make money off of nowadays. I don't see any Chaotic merchandise outside of the TCG, Dino King merchandise outside of localizing one game... and that seems about it. There's a Viva Pinata game coming out, but the show had been removed from the schedule (on both channels) for a month or so now. And even then, there wasn't all that much outside of a Kid's Meal promo.

Somehow I just feel Playmates is being p**sy because they didn't get another movie yet. They're the ones that kept spreading that rumor.

That's not true at all Tooth, the only reason they are using the same molds is because of cost cutting and being cheap @ss bastards.

But what Vaughn said is true: Murph was pretty much the last person at Mirage who gave a damn, but he got tired of talking to people who refused to listen and it was causing him too much stress, so he just gave up.

And when no one at a company gives a damn about the product trying to be sold, all you're gonna get is this half-assed stuff that we've seen. And that is why the TMNT are toast by the end of next year.

I am glad everyone else seems to know exactly what all the companies involved in this are thinking and how it works exactly.

Sorry but everything seems to turn into a nothing is good enough for the fanboy post. Why not look at the positive side of things?

TMNT has been a part of most of my life and I am not gonna get upset because I can't control what other people do. I have enjoyed TMNT this long and will continue to in the future.
Um, many of us do know exactly what's going on because we talk to insiders at these companies.
I know that's hard to wrap your brain around but it's the truth.
and honestly it's really not that hard to figure out what's going on if you've been along for the ride since the turtles first came onto the scene in the 80's.
These people don't even respect their own property that's the most sickening thing about all of this.
But I'll look on the bright side, hmm let's see I'm happy I can save my money to spend on other things now even though I'd be very happy to give it to a company who made quality TMNT merch.

That's not true at all Tooth, the only reason they are using the same molds is because of cost cutting and being cheap @ss bastards..

Yeah yeah... I know. I don't even know why I wrote that. Though there has to be a nugget of truth there... I mean, they're the ones that kept clinging to rumors they started about the next movie.

So yeah, Reusing molds cheaply (though, for the trillionth time, The FF molds would work leaps and bounds better, there's less plastic in them as well...) that's the main objective. And the fact that the movie line did well a month before the movie and a couple months after it. But mostly the cheapness.
