Yeah, it's pretty sweet. I'm one of those (possibly insane) collectors who likes to buy comics in the best condition possible, even graded and (oh my!) encased in plastic, so either I have to buy a second reading copy or I feel like I need to be so careful reading it that I can barely follow the story because I'm afraid I'm gonna make a spine crease or blunt a corner.

So am I insane? I'm almost sure of it, but I am glad that I have digital resources like ninjaturtles.com so that I can read these issues without having to crack open my "hard copies".:D

Does anyone else think the text is a little hard to read in some of the scanned pics?

Yeah, just a bit. That's why I got myself a microscope cuz I'm practiaclly blind. DAMN YOU COMPUTER!:x. But yeah I love the fact they post these comics on their site. It's pretty difficult to actually find them and or the collected books. Although my awesome girlfriend bought me the second collected book where they go to the Triceraton homeworld, so maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Yeah, it's kind of disappointing that they overlook the fact that their scans are hard to read. But April's writing is hard to read anyway, in the comic.

I love the fact that they scan the comics, though. What a kind thing to do for the fans! I'm just sad because I wonder if they'll ever get to City At War ... I don't really want to do a big online order in U.S. money but I want to read that series ...

yeah, all those city at war comics would cost a lot. but i hope they make it that far, because they look really good. and because the 2k3 3-part episodes of city at war were good.

I have a few of my TMNT books graded as well. Wanted the mintiest books for the first few issues but for the rest, I don't really care. That said, I have duplicates of all of my graded books for reading as well.

I think its great they put the scans up. For me, I don't read the books on there, but occasionally I need to reference an image or dialouge and its often easier to just go on there and find it then to go dig out my own copy.

I wish they had all Archie stories on the site too.

All the issues of TMNT vol 1, 2, 3, and 4 as well as the Archie comics should be online by the end of next year, and yes, that probably means Mirage needs to hire more people to help run the site, one issue every two months is unacceptable.

It'd be cooler if they A: Put the books back into print and B: didn't lie about the reason they wouldn't put issue 8 up.

I don't see why they would rush it. I don't think putting those books is honeftly of great importance. I'm actually just thankful that they are putting them up in the first place as I don't know of many (any?) other major comic properties that have all of their issues available to be read for free.

If they are going to hire more people, there a number of other more pressing places I could think of where they would be put to better use,

Don't get me wrong it is a good thing that Mirage is making these older titles available for free, but the problem is that these titles should have been made availabe a long time ago, TMNT vol 1 and 2, Tales vol 1, and the Archie comics have been out of circulation for over a decade. At least companies like Marvel and DC have made their older comics available to the public in some fashion, on the Web, CDs, and TPBs.

It would only take one full time Webmaster to run things, as oppose to having Dan Berger split his time between running the site and acting as Managing Editor for the comics.

Well a scan every month is fine, I mean they don't want to burn through all their comics in one year..Its nice enough they're releasing them this way.

And I don't think we'll ever see Adventures or Vol. 3 since Archie/Image likely hold some rights for them.

If that is true, then Mirage can work out some sort of deal with them (images from Adventures and Vol. 3 are currently featured on the site), Archie and Image certainly have no use for them.

MIrage turned down a deal to get V 3 republished (at no cost to them and by a 3rd party) at one point because they'd have to share profits with Image and/or the creators.

Yeah, who would ever want to share monies with the people who did the actual work in the first place? Creator's Bill of Rights? Naaah, we don't need no stinkin' Creator's Bill of Rights!

Oh, the irony.

What makes it even worse is the fact a 3rd party was going to publish it. It would have cost them NOTHING, and yet they said no.

And we really shouldn't think of the page proofs that Mirage let Archie just throw away, all because Mirage was too cheap to pay for the shipping. That one just hurts too much. :tcry:

Now, quoth Wikipedia:

The artists and writers participating in the Bill’s creation were Steve Bissette, Craig Farley, Gerhard, Mark Martin, Larry Marder, Michael Zulli, Ken Mitchroney, Scott McCloud, Dave Sim, Rick Veitch, Peter Laird, Kevin Eastman, and the artists of Mirage Studios.

I think I just died a little. The phrase "Let's not republish this" should never come out of anyone's mouth at Mirage, especially in a situation like that.

Murph mentioned it in the comments for his blog before turning them off. They were negociating with I think papercutz about reprinting Archie, but it turned out Papercutz wanted V3, and so Mirage said no cause they'd have to share with image and the creators. This was a couple years ago.

That is indeed sad news. I have all of the Archie and V3 comics but if they where republished again I would have certainly bought them.
