Did they make "Turtles in time" an offcial sub title for the third movie? I might be mistaken but I thought it was just Turtles III. If so, thats a sweet deal
Without any new bonus content, it's pointless. Can anyone confirm that these are just repackaged? And with these new re-releases, what are the chances of getting them on Blu-Ray? I just don't understand how they miss such a big opportunity to update them. Hell, don't even do all of them. As a fan, I'd at least appreciate some sort of an attempt.
In the past year or so, I've found that only Wal-Mart and Buy.com list DVD content consistently anymore. So, we just have to wait on them to tell us if these are just lame repackagings of the already available movie DVDs perhaps?
I checked Amazon's page for each one. It seems like a simple repackaging as they seem to be in stock already. Not to mention these "new" images have replaced the older ones. But then again, there hasn't been any official word on it so I guess you're right gobo, we'll just have to wait.
If not for the fact of the Turtles arms and the sceptre overlapping the circle on TMNT III's cover image, would swear the new covers were simply a slip-cover over the old DVDs.

In this case, it's not 100% Mirage's fault. The WB has far too many BIGGER properties to cash out of.
But if they had a CEO that actually cared about new GOOD content..
Where's the tombstone generator for Gary's career? He belongs more at a lawyer company or as a Banking CEO than head of Mirage.

i like the cover art, but i dont like that it doesnt have new bonus features.
I just realized that each background is a bandana color. So, shouldn't they re-release last year's TMNT but with a red background. Poor Raph got left out. Either way, extras or not, I'm assuming WB would want to cash in with a four film boxset. I woudn't mind seeing the older releases in HD though.

i saw the first films in hd when they were on abc family *yay!*. and the movies do look better in hd, of course. they should release them in hd. also, they should realease a box set of a four turtle movies. although, they should make another turtles movie. that would be awesome to have 5 turtle movies instead of only 4.:D

I don't really like the new packaging, the old packaging was far better. If they were going to color coordinate the movies with a turtle's bandana, I think the first movie should have been Blue (or Red), the second movie should have been Purple, and the third Orange. The first movie was definitely Raph's movie shared with Leo. Second was definitely Don's movie with all the science stuff and his whole disappointment in how he was created. And the third was definitely Mikeys movie with Mitsu.

It is dissapointing that so far everything we have seen for the 25th Ann. is all re-releases. I hope this is only part of what is to come but I have no way of knowing. I guess only time will tell. No matter what I will still enjoy what TMNT I already have.
I think you guys are being a little too melodramatic about the 25th anniversary thing. I mean most other "franchises" get a horrible treatment during anniversaries and that usually means just a compilation or re-release during the anniversary year. In fact I think this is one of the most ambitious anniversary shellebrations (sorry couldn't resist ) I've seen besides maybe Pokemon's 10th.
These are not all bad either, sure there might be no new features however re-releases like these usually don't mention some new things like maybe its no longer a double sided disc and its single sided, that makes a huge difference for me. I also remember movie 1 having what was like a pause between chapters, I remember returning the movie and buying it at another store and then years later with the same problem so it was a thing from the factory maybe thats fixed..
Also the cover art is a lot better, only downside is they no longer have the original logos.

Though it won't have this awesome box if you buy all three of them:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51LlvowlkWL._SL500_AA240_.jpg
And if anyone wants to buy them for the art, you might want to wait since they usually first send the old release with a slipcover with the new artwork and then the new box with the newer prints.
Did they make "Turtles in time" an offcial sub title for the third movie? I might be mistaken but I thought it was just Turtles III. If so, thats a sweet deal
To me this is the most important thing in these re-releases
Anyone have the link to that thread were we debated whether Turtles in Time was an official title? I tried searching for it but couldn't find it.
I always said it wasn't I guess I was wrong :D
Edit: plus didn't they mention they had no control over the releases which is why we didn't get any re-releases when TMNT came out?

Yeah! If they should make a new three pack they should put new features in all 3 off'em. But since they now came out with one new box set i suppose it's reduce the possibility off a new one with new features to be released. I think that's sucks, it would be great having two three pacs where one off'em where a renewed better version off the other.

I'm gonna say that this isn't totally Mirage's fault on this one. More like mostly WB. I swear, had they not made a fortune off of Batman... that company is a friggin joke now.
I know that a lot of the footage could have been "Lost" and they can't do anything about it... I can take that. A lot of great movies don't have any bonus footage because of it. And current throw away crapflicks have 20 special editions a year. It's like there's no reason to buy the DVD when it first comes out anymore. But the Director said he had something lying around. So, apparently, WB is the latest in a long line to treat the 25th as a contractual obligation...

This is so ****ing stupid. I think the design is okay ... now the boxes are consistent with each other, at least. But I can't tell if it looks more or less childish.
Damn it all to hell. Why can't they release a special features DVD, at least of the first movie? I want to see those effing deleted scenes!!!!

Well, not quite what I was talking about. I meant DVD's of older movies in general have a lot of sequences that are gone for good, and just tossed away. In the UHF DVD, the outtakes from the film were on an old tape Weird Al had tucked away.
I did mean to say that if the material were lost for good, it wouldn't have been a problem. But then again, I was able to walk into video stores that had "Behind the Shells" for rent right next to the movies. Warners COULDN'T have walked into a Video Rental place that was going out of business?
And no digital copy or anything like that.... yeah.... Who wants to bet they're going to sell these for 15 bucks and slap a slip cover on them to justify it? Especially when you can pretty much pull these things out of various stores for less than 8 bucks each.

If the TMNT '90 disc (as in the actual disc itself) is better than the one we have now with its double sides and crap, then cool. Otherwise, I'll skip it.

If WB cared for the property enough to be that specific about a minor thing such as DVD artwork, trust me, we'd be getting a better product. And not just WB--if anyone cared for the property at all, we'd be getting better products.

The sad thing is, its not unheard of getting re-released DVDs of the same movie with no features added. For instance the first Terminator... I had a HUGE problem with this DVD. The released it with all the behind the scenes but then stopped printing them with the features but still left "special addition" on the top. I searched FOR EVER to find the damn disc with the features on it, and then they come out with some STUPID slip cover and expect people to buy "the collector cover" not even collectors will buy crap like that... I think its a stupid move on the part of the company but I am not convinced that these are just re-prints I mean how reliable is Amazon?
Dan Berger is of the impression that they're merely repackaged. :ohwell: He's not always right, but there's an official's opinion for ya.

Indeed:
Folks are writing in about the 25th anniversary DVD releases of the first three TMNT movies (see pix below - text links will take you to Amazon.com's listings) and asking if they are special editions with bonus features - they are not. They are repackaged versions of the old releases.
:D Do I get a cookie for posting the actual bit from Dan?

Some of your questions are answered here (http://ninja-pizza.blogspot.com/2008/11/dvd-update-or-not.html).
And keep in mind that Warner Brothers is really the only company that has a say in what does or does not happen. If they eventually green-light anything, they will hopefully work closely with Mirage to create a quality product, but Mirage has little influence in what becomes of any of the movies.
i will probably get them because i have wanted them on dvd for so long.

Your right. This is what I got back from Mirage: "I'm afraid not. Mirage isn't involved with the production of the DVDs
for the original films because we don't own the rights to the movies,
so we're not involved with any decision-making that goes into any of
the releases."
And then they also said:
"That decision lies in the hands of New Line Cinema, the company that
owns the rights to the films."
So lets attack them!!

I'm so sorry to say, and since no one has addressed this yet - New Line is now a subsidiary of Warner. They bought out New Line after they failed to turn a profit and they had New Line CEO and Co-Founder Bob Shaye step down.
So - It no longer soley lies with New Line Cinema. Warner Bros now owns the rights and should also be addressed accordingly. If ANYONE wants a special edition of TMNT 1, we have to keep the ball rolling or we won't ever see the light of day anymore with the project.
