Seriously what the hell is up with those songs in the beginning of "City At War Part 1" and the middle of "April's Artifact"? They only do it twice in the entire series and they songs are completely random and pointless. I had completely forgotten about them till I was watching the new DVD. The lyrics are down right bad and barely match what's happening.
I hate them both equally for different reasons but the "City At War" one annoys me more because it's a retarded way to start off such a heavy story arc. The entire city is at war and we're gonna run around on the roof tops singing a happy song? Seriously they were high during that meeting. The worst is it actually ends and then starts back up again after an important scene, almost instantly killing the mood set by it.
The April one just makes me cringe. I'd be embarrassed if someone walked in while I was watching it. It's like getting caught masturbating, or watching Ninja Turtles 3, you gotta do it all alone in the dark.
I just felt like making a topic addressing my disgust on this subject.

Well on the bright side at least that didn't stick with the series. I agree that those songs shouldn't have been in the show.

You read my mind...:P I think that every time I watch eppy 1 of city at war. I wonder why the random musical intro during Raph and Leo running across NYC rooftops. It doesnt set the right tone for those episodes at all.
I don't remember the one at the beginning of April's artifact, I hardly ever watch that one. Guess it's time to get it out

I know this is the wrong forum to mention this, but I actually like TMNT 3 better than TMNT 2, and the reason is because in TMNT 2 I absolutely LOATHE how they do not use their weapons in the fights. Why the hell even carry them if you aren't going to use them? That alone destroyed that entire movie for me (not to mention they don't even fight Shredder). Sure, the enemy in TMNT 3 was pretty lame but at least they went back to using their weapons again.

I like TMNT 3 also, I prefer the second one because of nostalgia and because Tokka/Rahzar/Super Shredder are awesome. But if you really analize TMNT2 is worse if you take out the nostalgia and recognizable/cool characters. I mean they actually tried to do something with the story, it would have been a lot easier plot wise to have Shredder return again or have another villain. Either way I think there was no way TMNT 3 could have not become the black sheep of the family. Having Shredder again would have made people tired of him and even having another "famous" villain like Krang or rat king etc would not have worked not to mention fading popularity of the turtles.

But here goes....
I liked "Running Free" and "It's a Jungle Out There". Placement for Running Free was a bit weird, but I found nothing wrong with either song in and of themselves.

I never was totally averse to the songs, but they did feel very out of place...but then again, I can't remember the last time I watched those episodes.

Since 2001 (they own Next Mutation due to the Saban purchase)...
I liked 'Midnight Run' a lot. It seemed like it was pretty much a sign of the calm before the storm. The Jungle one though, I cannot stand to this day. I disliked the episode it was used in because I thought 'the jungle girl in me' crap they were doing with April was beyond lame, and the fact that it had this annoying Yugioh reject of a song in it didn't help matters. No wonder 'Midnight Run' is the only to be released for purchase out of the two...
Like S, I think the songs are good too.
Though, I am one who tends to enjoy songs in shows and movies anyway.

You know who would have liked the Jungle girl in April? Casey. They really wasted a moment not having Case blush or snicker pervertedly....
The songs didn't bother me, though. I didn't care for them, and they really don't fit in the context of the show. I've never been way too keen on 4Kids's songs, except they had some catchy theme songs... I always thought their version of the theme to Kirby was a lot catchier than Kirby March or that other one, where he was the... Tambourine of rainbows or something like that. I thought the Ultimate Muscle music they used was good, though still not in a class as the original music on all counts.
But at least it wasn't the One Piece cheap Will Smith movie soundtrack style bit they had... after they even had the rights to do the original.

I think they basically have some crazy ass thing where they only own it on a technicality in North America. That said, I want my damn Pizza cats and Eek the Cat on DVD before I turn 40!!!

I think Disney does own NT:NM outside of the US as well. The reason its getting released in the UK is because Disney licensed it the same way Disney licensed Power Rangers for box sets in Germany and the US got nothing.
The downside of it is Disney rarely releases DVDs and when they do they have extremely high expectations and if they don't meet the sales of their A franchises they never release more volumes, even if the sales were more than decent.
The good news is Disney does randomly give a chance to a show and we would likely get a boxset release for it so even if it sold poorly we'd get the entire show. Another good thing would be since Disney owns Power Rangers we could get the cross-over episode since its technically a PR episode on the Box set. But I guess I got offtopic AGAIN on this thread.

It's like they wanted to up the ante with a movie-esque, musical montage. Unfortunately, movies can acquire rights to real songs, and this show was left with the most generic buzz rock 4Kid's composers could spew up.
At least they realized it was a mistake.

Terrible, terrible song. I dislike all the crappy songs that they had un-needed montage scenes, especially the one where Raph helps Leo make new katanas. Although in my opinion I think being caught watching these crappy music video wannabee things isn't really up there with being caught masturbating. If anything it's a lot faster to change the channel or mute it through than to stick it back in your pants... just saying.

I rather liked the song that played in season four when the turtles where showing Usagi and Gen around the city. Can't remmeber off the top of head any of the songs in season two through...
We're discussing the only two in-show songs that have lyrics here. :)

To keep this on-topic, yeah, I didn't much care for the songs either. Even if they were good (can't really remember the rooftop one, and haven't seen the jungle one yet), they don't really fit with the overall vibe (snicker) of the show. It's Ninja Turtles for crying out loud, not Barney.

Sure it is. I watch these on DVD so if I change the channel it would be quite weird if I was watching static. I could mute it but that would also raise some questions. Also I'd most certainly get made fun of more if someone walked in on me watching this then playing with myself. Course all households aren't as strange as mine and probably don't yield as many masturbation jokes a day as mine does.
It's not the end of the world it's just a mood killer. What if this crap was playing when Batman was running around the rooftops? Put it in any context it doesn't fit in a series that prides itself on being "dark" and "edgy".

This Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle series was inspired by the original - darker and edgier - comics that made its debut in 1984. With significant input from TMNT co-creator, Peter Laird, the episodes are based on those early storylines and feature a graphic visual style that comics fans love.
Then there's the part where it says the turtles are back and "mean business". If you need anymore proof the series was going in that direction watch Season 3 and 4. They really went all out and right as the series was getting good then they 360'd and went for some stupid Dragon Ball Z story arc.

Well, let's just say "Darker and edgier" in the context that they don't turn to the screen and sarcastically mutter about their surroundings... Not that there was anything wrong with that.
But it was basically an experiment they thankfully didn't follow up on. Though it makes me wonder if they wanted to add more songs to bulk up a sound track, but never followed through with it.

I get your point. When I watched these two music video things it just felt so wrong, that at first I though it was a joke. But then I just kind of felt embarassed.
Oh and Mino just try pressing a button vs putting it back into your pants, shorts, boxers or whatever. I'm pretty sure it'll take longer. Hell you could even time it if you want.
