Scooped this from Lying in the Gutters 12 -15 - 2008 (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=19176):
Next year is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the first “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" series. The original first eleven issues and individual character solo one shots, long out of print, are being collected in hardcover for May publication from Mirage.
This will be accompanied by an Official Handbook To The Mirage Universe style book, profiling Turtle and spinoff characters in all their various forms.
The “Forever War" story from the Archie "TMNT Adventures" comics will be published and completed, written by Steve Murphy who wrote the originals under the pseudonym of Dean Clarrain, with art by Chris Allan.
A Donatello mini-series to close out the yearly individual Tales series is entitled "Brain Thief."
Archie Comics will also reprint the original three-issue mini-series from Michael Dooney in their manga trade size with all new colouring.
Happy Holidays, y'all :).

Great, I have to correct HIm again, point out that they aren't reprinting 8.
Is this the Peter Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Special Edition TPB?
The other stuff sounds pretty awesome though (aside from the Archie miniseries).

Yea, it is the "special edition".

Hardcover repriting and manga-size Archie trades sound nice (presuming they continue with the Archie series).
Now get to work on reprinting City at War, Volume 2, and Volume 4 in trades. They need to be collected ASAP.

They also need a "Prelude to City at war" trade with the stories preceding it like shades of gray that are still in continuity but less of a priority. Still, CAW comes first.

Not necessarily. I heard a whisper that Peter has *gasp* actually made communication attempts with Dave Sim.

From what I've heard, neither of these are in the works.

Last I heard, this re-print of the first TPB has to sell well before even considering a CAW TPB.

It'd be guaranteed to sell well if it were in bookstores, but that would just be too hard. But from what I know CAW isn't even on Mirage's radar at this point, no matter the sales for the hardcover.
I'd love to be wrong, though!

I don't think it's a hardcover either, at least I haven't heard it called a hardcover at any point. I'm pretty sure it's a straight tpb, but still, it's coming. Cool to see it making headlines at least.
I'd been told the same thing as Rose mentioned (re: Dave Sim) a few times. So it is a very strong possibility.
It's not the Special Edition either gobo, this is a straight classic reprint. At least according to Dan.
As Rose said, CAW isn't on the radar yet. If things go well next year, then there's a possibility.

Every year is expensive for me, but I'll have to agree with you here. 2009 is going to break my bank. Maybe I should finally respond to one of those credit card offers I'm always getting and REALLY go for it.
I'm talking debt of EPIC proportions here.

Yeah. I was in Books-A-Million today in the comic section saying to myself, "The TUrtles would sell so well if their TPBs were here. The comic would really get the respect it deserves."
Hopefully someday someone'll finally get around to making that happen.
In the meantime, I'm hoping that the new Wii game will give the Turtles at least a good console reputation again.

Man Im gonna be poor. Between the 25th annaversary stuff and Star Trek....*watches her money fly away*....
I was really hoping that the Handbook would be out in time for Christmas but ah well... Nice to know that the Handbook will be for ALL the various TMNT Universes tho! :D I mean yeah I have the TMNT Adventures Handbook already but it's nice to get all that info in one book.
As for that Don mini. Nice to finally get the name of it.

Although, on another note...crap... I just bought another copy to add to my pile of "TO BE LIBRARY BOUND" materials

Strait classic? I could kiss you guys! YAY!.
but on another note crap... after I JUST bought another copy.
Great news.
Liking the Handbook. Forever War, and Archie Trade. See how the Don mini-series goes.
As for continuing Archie, Cipher. I also hope so. The Sonic Trades started out the same way (doing the beginning mini-series, and then a little later the series), so could be that the series will follow for TMNT too.

Keep in mind though, Archie no longer has the proofs of alot of stuff.

They don't?! That seems rather strange (they wouldn't have it). With apparently having the mini-series (at the least in a manner to do a new styling of it).

No, they no longer have them because Mirage told them to throw them away. Whatever proofs you have are different from what Archie threw away.

The reason it's going to have new coloring is because the old coloring was thrown away.

:) Ah, that feels good. I've been waiting for a real announcement on the tpb of the first issues forever. Can't wait to have these classics in such a way.
The Forever war news is also very pleasing to my ears.
As for the Don Mini-series...I think thats cool, but I just don't go through the trouble to pick up all these "tales" issues. I'm just hoping one day they will get all of them out in tpb form, where I would feel more comfortable buying them.
City at War tpb? gah.....I can hope.

Why would Mirage have them thrown away?
Archie didn't want to store them anymore, so they told Mirage they'd need to pay to have them shipped out or they'd be destroyed. Mirage was too cheap to pay the shipping, so they got destroyed.

Forever War!
Collected TPB with the first 11 issues (I already have all those issues, but I want to support the team so I'll be getting this trade regardless)!

It was last Tuesday that it happened.
Did you not get the memo? Because we had a server crash here, and half our memo-mailing list mysteriously ninja-like vanished.
I'm sorry about that. We'll make sure to work hard to get you the memos in the future.

Those are great news. I have spent a small fortune for collecting all the volume 1,2 and 3 stuff in issue format. ( ans also 4 but i am not counting it since it is not very old )
But i will surely buy all those stuff again.
I am a bit disappointed about the situation of City at War trade tho.

I'm gone for a little while and suddenly there's news of Vol 1 reprints and classic action figure re-releases? :D
It's going to be a good (and expensive) year to be a TMNT fan.
Now I just need to hear of a release of a TMNT video game collection (all the old games on one disc) and I'd be all set! :)

Cool stuff, but its a little late for me to pick up I wish they had this out when I was getting back into the comics. I have all the issues, collected books plus the First published books... Unless accompanied by means the TMNT universe book comes with it or if there is some type of really cool extra stuff I'm gonna sit out on that one. I do want the TMNT/Mirage canon book tho.
Good news for fellow TMNT fans trying to locate those books tho :) I wouldn't mind seeing Lairds "digital remaster" or what not of the original books just for kicks tho...
Hoping this new massive vol. 1 15 issues trade is the complete original books not the Peter Laird "special editions". I hope the Dave Sim talks are true too. Don't really know what to make of it if we do end up with a Jim Lawson redone issue 8. I mean something like this why can't Peter redraw the Cerebus character at the least? With todays technology Pete could at least draw over Cerebus in the least, which wouldn't take so long to do in the whole issue. I still don't get why from whats been said in the past, the entire issue could be redrawn. When in hind sight u could just replace Cerebus. And I hope Pete supplies a new cover not Jim Lawson. Its just wrong how he relies so much on Lawson. Yet anything to do with this Vol.1 book shouldn't even have Lawsons art on it. Its just wrong.
Perhaps City at War ain't getting a trade 'cause Mirage may want to reprint material in chronological order? Would the next book be the solo Laird and Eastman issues, like #12,14,15,17,18? Then TMNT 24-29? Or maybe in terms of events from Vol. 1? Maybe the next book could be Return of NY? Then City at War? But I disagree with this collection being just #50-62. It really should include #48-49. The Grey arc really sets up Casey's story into CAW. The book would be as big as the Vol. 1-11 & TMNT solo books at 15 comics. My two cents and I hope Mirage gets going on these new trades. What else should be in trade or counts as the Mirage canon to be reprinted?
I wonder if that was planned or just a happy accident that Volume 1 both started and ended with such an easily singled-out, 15-issue grouping... They're convenient little book-ends for the collection (of Volume 1).

The thing about the Jim Lawson-drawn version of #8, that I think is beyond the comprehension of Peter Laird, is that it is completely unnecessary, especially in a TPB of those first 15 issues. Those are the Eastman & Laird issues; you take #8 out of that and you don't miss anything in the other issues. But if you put in a non-Eastman & Laird story (that does nothing to even look similar in style to E&L) and it just ruins the look and feel of the whole book. Of course, having an incomplete collection of the E&L stories without #8 would be just as bad.
That replacement story, if ever used, should only go in the front of a TPB that features other stories with Renet and/or Savanti Romero.

I keep hearing about this mythical redrawn #8, and I may have gotten an answer before and I'm just retarded, but I don't recall hearing where it was published. I think I heard it was in Spanish or something. And what are the differences? Does the issue really lose anything for 86ing Cerebus? Is his absence the only major difference?

Yeah, it was in a Spanish TPB. It's a completely different story with no similarities to the original. I don't know Spanish and I haven't gone through the trouble of translating it, so it's hard to be specific about it beyond that. Mebbe I'll break it out after work and take some crude pictures of it to share.

It has been a long time since I read this, and roughly translated it, but it does go into Savanti Romero's origins if I remember right, explaining that he was once a man that became what he currently is.
