Display Collection Video:

grj6oGqTkmM

Updated: I've wrapped the pictures of the display collection in spoiler tags to make this first post more manageable. Also, below I have added links to other parts of my collection that are often asked about.

The newest Vanity Shots of the Vintage Toy and Comic Collection. The only thing on display are comics, playmates toys and prototypes from 88-98, and the portfolio of comic art. This will be the display for the interview this weekend. (Normally the Comics aren't out like that)

...then....I suppose...the house would burn down? What a strange question lol. At any rate, I haven't used that stove in years. There isn't even gas running to it at the moment.

I've been in my current apartment since February and I've never even used the stove or oven  Of course, my reason is because I can't cook worth squat.

I'm not picky about carded or loose. I've taken a number of my figs out of their package, especially when I have part of a subset partially out of the package already. I'll take them out of the package to display the whole group together.

it wouldnt hurt you to clean your collection once in a while. :D you should be particularly concerned about the dust on any of your items with cloth like the undercover turtles. I don't know, maybe it's a girl thing, but Im just picky about dust.

Most of them are clean. I clean stuff when I move it. The shelves themselves are what seldom get cleaned. So worst cast scenario, they have dusty feet. But yes...you are picky.

Besides...you try finding the motivation to keep over a thousand pieces clean. The kitchen is just a portion of the collection lol :-P

My girlfriend supports me in everything i do. As any significant other should...I frankly find it appalling how many people here are in relationships in which their ninja turtle passion (or any other passion for that matter) is a source of tension in their relationship... Honestly... if I was with someone who felt that negatively about such a big part of me...I wouldn't be with them for very long.

Something to consider gang.

This is very true dude!! My girl friend doesn't have to LOVE turtles but she is the kind of person who would NEVER suggest I not do something if she knows it is important to me. That is the most important thing, accepting each other the way we are! Mind you we do live in a VERY small place so I try to keep the displayed collection at a respectable minimum. BUT you bet it would all be out if I had a little more room. I don't think I could display it all even if I lived here alone hahaha.

Yes, It is the unreleased version of Pizza Face. And I get them from many different places. Sometimes I am lucky enough to get them from the original artists, and sometimes from ebay.

Additionally, I picked these up today...I have to say I am very impressed!

That's what I meant. Since you didn't see it, and we have no other reports of anyone else seeing it in stores yet... and with the fact that nobody's seen the allies and villains of the 25th anniversary re-releases yet... I fear Playmates is up to their old tricks still.

I think these are very nice.
The only down side was that on the side of the box was an advertisment for the 3rd re-release of the ninja action tmnt figures.
I wish they would keep releasing figures that didn't sell well the last time they brought them out.
But these mini mechs are nice for sure.

Thanks for alleviating my paranoia, Vaughn. Ninja Action? You mean like the ones that do cartwheels and backflips? Why those of all figures? And did you mean you wish they'd quit re-releasing figures instead of keep?

Sure thing, and yes those are the ones I'm talking about.
They released them in the old line in a window box first, then they re-released them in 1996 on blister cards sans mikey for the 10th anniversary.
then they changed them slightly for the 2k3 ones adding shredder, splinter, and a foot soldier.
Now they plan to bring them out again but only yhe 4 turtles.
You know I was thinking today how lucky those of us who grew up with the classic line are because we got variants of other characters like Bebop & Rocksteady. I'd really like to see atleast one more Hun figure.
Woops! Yes what I mean is I wish they would stop releasing figures that went on clearance the last time they released them which was what like 3 years ago or something lol.
They have so many things from their vast archive of toys they could bring out again but they choose things like that.

Archon, in post #8, sixth pic up from the bottom, what are the beefed up turtles beside Jim Lee Raph and Sumo Don?

Also, very nice collection. Now I know about how much space I would be looking at using should I ever want to display my collection! :P

Right now they are all in my closet in toychests and rubbermaid containers. My mom rocks dude, buying me all those toys when I was younger. I was one of those kids that was super picky about letting people play with my stuff (in other words they didn't!) so I am thankful I still have my weapons and other accessories. I even saved the pieces that would chip off, such as a tiny corner on Shoate and one of Rahzar's kneepads didn't want to stay on tight.

The one thing that bugs me is I accidentally broke Sandstorm's waist spring when I was younger amidst a heated battle between him and the foots while on a mission to help out the guys.

Where did you get the set of Undercover Turtles ?
Did you have to open up MOC figures ?
Ive only seen them sold loose a couple times with coats.

I have 3 out of 4 MOC myself. I still need Mike.

that giant Splinter is definitely the highlight of your collection. any chance you'd be putting it on ebay? (i know, a long shot, doesnt hurt to ask tho)

btw do you know anything about this:? it looks like it's made from the same company that made the giant bootleg splinter. kinda like a "mini giant splinter"

If you consider the bootleg splinter the highlight of my collection, then you havent looked hard enough :-P

But no, nothing in my collection ever goes on sale unless I have duplicates. Sorry

And yes, that splinter you posted is the regular asize version of the giant splinter from the same series. I've got one. Was there anything in particular you'd like to know about it?

Nice copy man. That should get a sweet grade if you decide to still get it graded (after your lil tirade and all). REMEMBER though, if you decide to get it signed and graded, try to coordinate with CGC so they can witness it or else it will be downgraded as "writiing" on the cover. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCE will they grade it and verify that that sig is legit unless it is witnessed. I'd hate for you to get it signed first, then get a lower grade, then throw another hissy fit. :P

$40, which I still think is a good deal...you just got an even BETTER deal. :-)

I mean, as far as print run goes i guess they are rare...3000 copies according to the book...but yeah, they dont seem terribly difficult to come by.

Spitfire

Yeah not a bad deal. I get a good deal on some things but there are others I've shelled out more cash then I desired to. Some of the Image issues I had a hell of a time getting. I paid like 15 bucks for one issue alone it was so hard to find. I also paid 500 for all of Mirage volume 1 and some extras. A few months later a better lot popped up on EBay 150 bucks for all of volume 1-3 and Archie. That was a kick in the balls but you win some.

No, it isn't original art. Proofs are photo copies, but are used in the production of the comic book, so I still find them interesting.

No offense man, but I will never not bid on something I need just because someone else wants me to. Besides, even asking me to do that is a violation of the ebay TOS agreement, let alone just kind of unethical.

What are these?
thanks in advance.

Archon_Turtle

GobbledyGook 1 and 2 are the first comics that Kevin and Peter ever did together. These pre-date the ninja turtles (there is actually an ad on the back of each of them for TMNT #1). They were self published, photocopied and stapled together by Kevin and Peter by hand. Only 50 copies of each were printed. Largely regarded as the "holy grail" of Turtles collecting (even though the turtles only appear in an ad). They contain the origin story and first appearance of the Fugitoid.

Turtlemania was a promo book made by a Comic shop that Kevin and Peter provided most of the art for. There were 3 editions:

10 copies of the Gold edition (which I have never seen): Signed and Sketched by Kevin and Peter

100 Copies of the Silver Edition: Just signed by Kevin and Peter

3000 Copies of the Standard (or White) Edition

Heres are the Pages of GobbledyGook 1 and 2:

Good call, I've had urges to buy bootlegs before(figures) but I always hesitate. I guess as far as the "fake" stuff goes I should probably think about what I'm sayin sometimes. I have the customizing hobby, and doing that could be considered bootlegging maybe? Anyway, I'm not complaining, just curious. i totally dig your collection. I never dealt with AFA so I was wondering are they sealed in those cases

Hey, sorry, didnt see this question till today.

Yes, they are sealed in the cases, that is kind of the point :-)
They grade them and seal them in the cases so the grade cannot be disputed at a later date.

Here is something super cool! I have had a couple loose My First Raph Doll for quite some time, but they've seen better days. I've had to repair both of them to varying degrees, neither of them have their sai's or water funnels. But, since I had never even seen one in the box in all my years of collecting, I jumped at the chance to own one:

So something really interesting sorta fell into my lap today. Earlier today, Danny was kind enough to point out a splinter head from movie 1 and a don head from movie 3 on ebay. I decided not to make a move for the splinter head, as he was totally furless, so even after being restored, he wouldnt be "complete". The don head on the other hand, while in pretty sad shape, upon being restored, WILL be complete. So I saw it as a potentially fun restoration project. The guy ended up being 40 minutes from the house, so heather and I went and got it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/JNCOPosterboy/The%20Collection/Heads/Movie%203%20Don%201/100_2943.jpg

Here is the really interesting part. When I was picking up the head, the gentleman happened to mention that he happened to have ANOTHER movie III Don head. This one however, as you are about to see, is in MUCH worse shape. We made a deal for it on the spot, and I took home with me. I havent decided what Im going to do with this one, i may try to restore it myself, since I can't really **** it up any more.

just a quick update on the heads. I spoke to Tom, and he agreed with me that the second head is too far gone to be economical to repair. Having said that, the first head is well within the condition to be restored. For a total restoration it will cost me about $1500. This would include restoration and resculpting of the missing sections, as well as glass eyes and a shaped fabric bandana. I've decided we are going to go forward with the project after the first of the year. I will keep everyone posted with progress.

Quick thought on those CGC comics. Buddy of mine took a 6.0 of New Mutants #98(first Deadpool) and cracked it open to get Liefeld to sign it. He got it RE-graded and it came back as an 8.0. I'm confused on the grading system there. Hopefully you'll have similar luck with yours. ;)

Here is something I have been waiting for a little over a month to share with everyone.

If you recall, the copy of Gobbledygook #1 that was gifted to me by Kevin was a misprint. 3 images in the book appear twice (to see that book, click here (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v247/JNCOPosterboy/The%20Collection/Comics/GobbledyGook%20First%20Print/Issue%201/). The pages that repeat are labeled alpha-numerically.)

While this error possibly makes it the rarest copy out there (as we have yet to find its possible sister book, which would be missing 3 pages), I've still always wanted a copy of the book that did not have the error in it.

Recently, Steve Murphy of Mirage, was able to afford me this opportunity. Steve and I were able to work out an agreement for the purchase of a copy of Gobbledygook #1 which had been signed by Peter, personalized "To Smurph" (one of Steve's nicknames) and given to him in 1989. Steve was kind enough to draft me a letter of authenticity to go with the book.

Here are a few interesting pictures from the book. All of the photos of the book can be found via a link at the bottom of this post.

Here is the letter that Steve wrote for me. I have water marked across his signature for security purposes.

So some time ago, the temperature controlled display case that housed my wax sculpts crapped out on me. Since them ive had to store them in a box in the fridge. Lame.

However! Today I went to BevMo and picked up a replacement! I like this one better than the last one because it is wider than it is tall; giving me more usable space.

Yeah that is Tyrano-Shredder.

From left to right in the case is:
Hot Spot (the the head of robotic Bebop at his feet)
The maskless head of Casey Jones (Unreleased)
Casey Jones
Tyrano-Shredder and the front end of the Sewer Sub in front of him

All of the above are the original Wax Sculpts.

On top of the case are Resin Prototypes (those that are painted are hand painted by the sculptor):
Scratch and Jail Bird
The unreleased version of Pizza Face
Wingnut and Screwloose
Walkabout and Kid Kangie

Thus you infer that Archon was drinking his entire salary?

Thus, i was joking with him. :|

That said, he has told me in private before (and pubically, on these very boards, which is why I feel comfortable saying the following) that his drinking was an expensive habit. Could he keep both habits up, on the level he was accustomed to, on his salary? I have no clue, nor is it my business. But I would imagine giving up ANY habit (drinking, smoking, fried chicken, etc. ) that drains your wallet would free up SOME cash to fund your other habit.

Now if Steph could just quit paying for porn he'd be good to go!
