View Full Version : April O'Neil, Ushering Us Into Manhood
Weapon X

The Show: TMNT introduced us to a giant ninja rat, a man-sized alligator, a clan of feet, a guy who was a brain inside a jar inside another guy, and all other manner of mutated horror we had no way of understanding. But God bless us, we begged our parents to buy it all anyway.
The Object Of Our Misguided Affection: April O’Neil, fiery reporter for Channel 6 news and one of the turtles’ only human friends. She was also one of the only female characters who wasn’t some kind of hideous monster, so that helped.
Perks:
April’s best guy friends are sewer-dwelling animal men who talk, act, and think like preteen boys. If they challenge you to a fight, you’re ****ed, but as long as you can keep things based on physical appearance or general odor, it’s a lock.
She’s the only reporter in the world who insists on wearing a low cut yellow jumpsuit at all times. Kinky.
According to her official bio, her main weakness is “extremely ticklish feet.” Double kinky!
Bummers:
As a career woman, April is more concerned with getting the story than finding love. You’re in very real danger of becoming a one night stand. Are you ready for that kind of heartbreak?
She associates closely with mutants, has traveled through the dimensions, and been covered in numerous kinds of ooze. I guess what I’m saying is–use protection.
The Crude, Misinformed Euphemism We Used To Express Our Lust:
“I’d like to bebop her rocksteady!!”
The Internet Fallout:

Scary isn't it?
Thanks to April's scene in "Case Of The Hot Kimono" I developed a foot fetish.
What about everyone else?
And hey this is just supposed to be fun. So as usual, don't take it too seriously.

If April ushered me into manhood, I'd be regularly taking testosterone shots now and gone through some serious cosmetic surgery.
Either way, I personally find April pretty hot. Especially oldschool April. She had one hell of a body and a spicey attitude. Easily the sexiest of all the Aprils.
And although I already posted this image in another thread, I'm posting it again here because it's just that awesome. lol

Still, I'd take April any day over Fifi LaFume. :tcouch: You won't believe the dudes that like her.....

Am I the only one who viewed April as a mother figure?
I was really young when the old toon was airing, so as a kid I never noticed April's "features" and saw her as a mother figure almost. I almost viewed her as an older sister/parent to the Turtles, somehow.
lol.

Let's hope he just forgot to credit it.
And Ryona's picture is disturbing on numerous levels.
I was also too young to notice April at all. I didn't even notice it when getting back into the turtles again around 2004. It wasn't until around 05 or so when the internet made me realize I was supposed to have the hots for april.
I still don't have it but i guess I do notice now that she was as fanservice as you could get I guess.
Bad thing about that is I now notice all the time when her cleavage line is not drawn and her jumpsuit is way too unzipped. It looks extremely odd and bothers me and before I never noticed.
I wonder why they sometimes drew a cleavage line and sometimes they didn't. Also it seems when they didn't draw it that they actually made the whole opening a lot bigger making it seem more obvious/strange looking.

Do you have a higher res of this?

When I was a kid, I was never all like, "April's the smecks, yo." Maybe I was just a little too young in those early seasons where she occasionally got away with having a bit of cleavage. Though, there's this one image I found somewhere awhile back that I found really funny that kind of pertains to this conversation, but it's 2k3 related.
It's attached.
When I was a kid, I was never all like, "April's the smecks, yo."
For some reason, I read that as, "April's the snacks, yo."
And thus I added a new term to my lexicon! April is totally the snacks.

April gets too much crap for being a high flying reporter. I think her independent attitude is what made her attractive. I'm not a guy but even I can say that OT April is very pretty. Prettier and sexier than all the other animated versions of April, I don't care what any one says. Ot April certainly had the motherly/sisterly caring way about her that gave her that softer edge to her personlity but she was still obviously more of the "interest of attraction" to the turtles in the old series. If they really saw her as more of a sister or mother figure they wouldn't have occassinally been drawn to her her appreance like they did the show. It was probably never officially adressed in the classic series but I'm sure the turtles saw April as the definitive version of what an attractive female should like and probably used her as a refrence to compare other human females to her.
Personaly OT April had a big inpact on how I draw human females, particualrly their figures.

I'm totally shocked that Cleo from Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats is no where on that list. And the inclusion of Smurfette really disturbs me.

um...wow. How is it cartoons back then got away with realistic porptioned characters? You would never see a female character now adays with rounded breasts that actually shift with movement...normally they are all sharp and pointy looking now. o.O

I never saw April as a mother figure. Though I was too young to notice that she was one beautiful babe in a yellow jumpsuit. When I first saw an OT ep as an adult, I explained saying, "Woah! I didn't realized that April is this curvy."

I was pretty much born in puberty, but yeah, I'd have to say 80s toon April was one of the best things to come out of any 80s toon. That's my definitive April. Mary and I crack up a lot watching the old show (for lotsa reasons, duh), but yeah, cartoons can't get away with drawing chicks that hot anymore it seems. Major bummer, dude.
Oh, and thx all for those posted pics.
And Cleo was indeed hardcore. There was a lot more innuendo between Cleo and RiffRaff than I remembered there being. When I got the Heathcliff toons on DVD I was like, "since when was Cleo such a slut?"

To each their own. ;) Dr. Ruth used to say "no fantasy is bad unless someone gets hurt" after all...
Me? I fantasize about a world when Kevin Nash actually has working knees, dyes his hair, and doesn't have to job.
So I guess what I'm saying is that everybody's a little "off" to a point... 8)

Damn straight man, she was one of my animated crushes back in the 80's along with Adora from She-Ra, Cheetara from Thundercats, Glimmer from She-Ra, Scarlett from G.I. Joe, Catra from She-Ra, Teela from He-Man, Frosta from She-Ra, Mermista from She-Ra, Calla from Gummi Bears, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty (I saw the 1987 re-issue of this movie), Nightshade from COPS, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Sorceress from He-Man, and Cleo from "Heathcliff".

I don't know if that's even it. I mean I agree with you that the animation is more detailed and all than the rest of the series, But April (and the turtles really) just look really diffrent in season one. I guess I could say that April looks...younger I suppose, in the season one screen caps, but that does seem to really fit eighther. :(
But hey off topic question. Why do so many people say that 80's April hair isn't red when it clearly it is. :ohwell:

Depends on the animation, sometimes it does look brown, others auburn, and yes red.

the first 2 eps of the ninja turtles i always loved how they look--and how it was slightly more serious then the other episodes. you HAVE to wonder what if they kept that slightly serious tone and same style from the first episode of the show. i guess thats why the first 2 eps are my fave just cus they seriously kicked some ass on foot soldiers and....in the later series they...just didnt have that same fighting spirit like they used too. not that i dont like it i love the show but the 2 episodes just made them great.
