I sent this to Paula at Playmates to amuse myself:

Gooooood Afternoon Paula,

You may or may not know by now that I publish a Ninja Turtle blog http://www.theturtlevan.com that focuses on TMNT toys and current events.
Recently we have noticed that the prototype shot of shredder on the back of the 25th anniversary boxes seems to be...missing his pants. A number of people in the community are curious if this error was corrected before the manufacturing of the final product (assuming said manufacturing has begun). So I was wondering if you could confirm the status of this error in the final product. Either way, people are excited. Some people are even planning on purchasing the shredder reissue BECAUSE they hope that the error is present :-)

I honestly don't know why so many people automatically assumed that Shredder would even be re-released without pants. toy companies usually use test shots and pre production samples for their packaging photography which is why theres a disclaimer that says *actual product will vary*.

That's a huge bummer, looks like I won't be buying Shredder anymore...can't Playmates even get their hilarious errors correct? Geez!

On the plus side (unless they change this too) he should still include the mini Krang that my loose Android body is missing, so its not a total bust.

Good news - I now know if I want a pantless Shredder, I have to make it myself. So, what's the best (and easiest) way to remove paint? I'm thinking nail polish remover or alcohol padss.

Bad news - I now have little to no reason to buy the reissue.

That may be true Sarah, but it's not like Playmates didn't have old pictures of Classic Shredder to use for this box back.

i dont have much of the originals so--i';m still buying reissue shredder as well as the others. hell my reissue turtles are repalcing the 2003 tmnt 0.0 heh..classic is best even if they have basic articulation.:D

I can see another Disney's Tarzan thing happening, if they pose him like his photo on the back cover inside the box... underwear AND having his hands on his crotch? Perfect storm, man....

Plus, those child advocate groups are nutzos anyway.

I wasnt aware of the Disney Tarzan incident. aside from the ones with safety issues, Ive only ever heard of action figures being recalled 3 times and none of them were for sexual reasons. well unless you count that Ken doll incident. Canadian parents arent so uptight about these things like American parents are

At this point, it would kind of make them jerks to advertise those figures on the back of the box, and then never re-release them. :)

Well I'll be honest with you guys, Playmates has been doing this sort of things for a long time but it's really never gotten this far as having characters on the back of the box only not to release them.
Before it was just figures and concepts being shown in their catalogs and toy fair tables.

Well I'll be honest with you guys, Playmates has been doing this sort of things for a long time but it's really never gotten this far as having characters on the back of the box only not to release them.
Before it was just figures and concepts being shown in their catalogs and toy fair tables.
*coughcough*MetalKlawsBuzzrocMultiflexSpiderBytes* coughcough*

Last year, they pictured four figures on the back of the box that never got released (well, 2 of them did, but only in the UK and I'm only counting domestic releases here). Anyways, they are Metal Klaws, Buzzroc, Multiflex, SpiderBytes

They also didn't release the figures advertised in the 4th movie DVD insert. This includes The Serect Sewer Playset (Just a repaint of the 2k3 set, but that doesn't matter) and the Auto Attack Turtles (Remolds of FF figures). This brings the total of unreleased toys that was advertised of 2008 to a total of 8 figures and 1 playset.

There's also the figures advertised on Playmates site, but I won't count them since there isn't a hard copy ad out there (that I know of). If I was to count those, that number would at least double.

So yeah, my point is I'm sick of them advertising and then not releasing the figures.

Playmates has a long history (http://tmnt.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_figures_(1988-1997)#Unreleased) of doing this (http://tmnt.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_figures_(2003-Present)#Unreleased).
Yes, but only a small amount of those have been shown outside of toy fairs, long before the final product is done and ready for release. While I hate that most of those weren't released, it makes me plain mad when they advertise it on the box of a figure, especially right now with so few non-Turtle characters.

Yeah... that's strange that figs you can buy on Amazon.com are on the unreleased list.....
