Superhero Productions is working with Lionsgate to produce more bonus features for the original animated series DVD sets. Lionsgate had never done bonus features before they contacted us and we put together the bonus features on Season 4 (new interviews with Pat Fraley and James Avery) and Season 5 (all four original turtles!). We're working on some great stuff for the next set of DVDs and we'd like your help. That's right, one thing we're going to do this time is interview a handful of the BIGGEST fans we can find with the coolest collections. Living in Southern California (where we are based) is a plus although not a necessity. Let us know if you or anyone you know my be interested. Please tell us where you live, about your Turtles obsession and your personal collection. Don't message here, email [email protected]

Thanks!

I have a pretty huge collection. I own all the comics for starters. My collection resides in Sunnyvale, CA. It's not as big as others here on the forum but this is 20+ years of all the stuff I've acquired. I have pictures if needed.

I have (to my knowledge) the most content complete Playmates Ninja Turtles collection in the world. Along with the largest collection of vintage TMNT Wax Sculpts and Prototypes. This includes several prototypes of figures that were never released.

I know I am not really known on this forum or really any others, but I can guarantee I have a collection that would rival almost anyone's. But its not what you have that really matters. All that matters is how you feel about the Turtles. I think its cool that someone is finally looking to the fans for at least some input.

Hey Vaughn it sucks that you had to sell your stuff. I have gotten in a few financial jams myself and told my wife that I would sell my TMNT stuff to help make ends meet, but she wouldn't let me do it. She knows how much the Turtles mean to me.

Well, I've been told I live too far from them for their budget. I'm in Central California, so if they're not willing to go that far, it sounds like like the only people with any chance of being considered for this are gonna have to be between LA and San Diego.

I actually asked for clarification about the subject of their project in my email to them, because having a huge collection does NOT equal being the biggest fan. My preference for appearing in this would actually be as a group with all my fellow CA fans and friends and sharing some of the fun we've had together instead of doing a showcase of my collection.

They didn't address this subject in their reply; they just told me I live too far.

I would assume they are looking for collections because this is going to be a short featurette, and the collections have the most VISUAL appeal. As opposed to Canadian_Turtle's production that is going to be full feature length...hence he doesn't care so much about collection size. I would imagine LionsGate is just looking for the wow factor...if that makes sense...

It's easy to assume that's what they want, but Andrew's point is completely valid. If they want to showcase collections, that's awesome and fine, but it shouldn't be presented as being equivalent to the biggest fans.

While I agree that it was a poorly worded statement on their part...I don't think there were ill intentions behind it, nor do I think they should be crucified for such.

Seriously...it can get a little disheartening when I hear people asking for more fan involvement in things, and when it happens, people get sand in their nether regions about it.

I don't think asking for clarity about the angle they're looking to take equates to having "sand in the nether regions."

If I'm going to volunteer to commit myself to video for something, I think it's within my right to know how and to what purpose my image is going to be used. I'm not that desperate to be on TV/DVD.

Hey, here's an idea, instead of a silly documentary you guys should get Lionsgate to do something important like get the skipped eps on the DVDs instead.

Seriously, why are those eps still not on DVD?

They didn't address this subject in their reply; they just told me I live too far.

They addressed it in-between the lines.

"You ask too many questions." Or, "Damn, she's onto us."

Collections should be nice, but shouldn't be a pre-requisite as part of any kind of a truly genuine "We want to hear from the big, longtime TMNT fans out there and do an objective piece on each of them" thing. I mean, you find a lifelong TMNT fan that's well-spoken, this isn't the 50s... you stand them in front of a blue screen and have TMNT imagery going on behind them or something.

I wasn't singling you out Rose. It was more of a statement toward the community at large. I'm guilty of it too, especially when Playmates is involved. I think A LOT of people (including myself) should really be a little more open minded to things when it comes to us actually getting results from our incessant bitching :-P

Actually, no, we never said we were only interviewing people in LA and San Diego. We already have a few interviews scheduled on the other side of the country. As we just replied to your email, we've extended ourselves pretty far money-wise and time-wise and can't reasonably get everywhere we'd like to.

Also, in the initial reply to you, we never said we absolutely would not come to you, we said "might be out of our budget range at the moment" and "we will keep you in mind and on the short list."

Not sure how that can be interpreted as "these guys are only interviewing fans who live in Southern California."

Apologies for any confusion.

No sir, not at all. You're reading a lot into a pretty simple statement. We want to find fans, period. This is no freak show. We are fans, too. Of TMNT and lots of stuff. We are a relatively small production company... As you may have inferred from the name, we are INTO the genre, not making fun of it.

There's enough of that out there.

Before Lionsgate hired us, there were no special features. We found Pat, James and all four original Turtles and put them on Season 4 and 5.

We want to do MORE for the fans, not make fun of them.

Collections are not a prerequisite. Didn't mean for it to come off that way. Also, not involved with Playmates in anyway. Only things we've done for TMNT prior to this are the bonus features on Season 4 and 5. That's it.

That would rule but honestly would be next to impossible for us to pull-off. It's simply not that big of a project. This is more of a profile of a handful of fans. It would be great to be able to do what you just said and it sounds like some other folks are working on something maybe more like that. Would rule.

Super frustrating to us, as well. And to Lionsgate, believe it or not. This is being figured out. The problem is all of the conflicting information on various sites about the order episodes were aired in and in which seasons. There are different sites that say different things. Some sites list the episodes in the order aired, or story order, and others list them by production order.

Actually in touch with a great and open-minded fan (ahem) who has been explaining how it should / could be to us and we're going to pass it all on to Lionsgate.

Another great idea would be to not jump all over a fellow fan who comes into the Technodrome looking to get fans involved in these DVD sets which prior to our involvement had NO BONUS FEATURES WHATSOEVER.

Um... Sorry. Just saying.

Peace and love ya'll.

Over the course of the single day since this thread was created, you've already made commitments all over the country prior to Rose's query? And even if that's true -- despite being extremely suspect -- you agree, then, that whoever told her "you're too far away" wasn't being truthful as we're to believe now that distance isn't a motivating factor in the candidates selected?

You'd be scarce to find a more hardcore fan of TMNT of all kinds than Rose (and unlike a lot of TMNT fans, she's only a little bit looney, heh), which is why -- if that's truly your intent, to root out the "biggest" TMNT fans -- it's a little puzzling that before even finding out the level of her fandom, she's summarily dismissed with the comment given to her.

Really sorry you guys are getting all this flack, superherohq. We have a bit of pessimism going around lately. You did excellent work on the previous featurettes/interviews, and all the hostility towards you is really confusing and uncalled for. Your track-record should speak for itself. I'm guessing people are just disappointed that we're getting a brief fan-documentary instead of something more practical, like more interviews (Renae Jacobs, Jennifer Darling, production crew, etc.) or the two episodes that have been continuously skipped over.

While this is a cool idea and I'm glad you guys have managed to get extras onto the sets, as long as you're here I thought this would be a decent time to say that I (and other fans, if I may) would like more staff interviews as well.

What about writers? The prolific David Wise was captured in a fan interview not too long ago and still had an impressive memory of the show. Would it be too difficult to get an interview with Peter Laird or Kevin Eastman? (That's an honest question. I have no idea.) What other long time members Mirage creative team? I'd be interested in having some concrete opinions from them on the old cartoon.

Just some suggestions for the remaining releases.

The FIRST reply she received said, "It looks like you're about 6.5 hours from us which might be out of our budget range at the moment. We will keep you in mind and on the short list for now, absolutely, as we are collecting potential interview subjects going forward." It ended with "We'll be in touch." We've been working on various aspects of this for a while, didn't start today. And most of what involves travel costs is NOT the fan interviews. Rose wasn't dismissed. And she gave us two email addresses and we're already in contact with one of the people she suggested. Also figuring in is that we have remote crews in other cities, not all our associate producers and camera folk are based in So Cal, so if someone lives close to a place where we have folks we work with, that helps, etc. Really don't see why every detail of everything involved with how we're doing this needs explained but as you can see we are ANSWERING EVERY QUESTION WITHIN REASON ANYWAY. Why would we even come back here if you "found us out" or were "onto us" or whatever the crap. We're also on here RESPONDING to these posts... Does it really seem like we're out to get you, let alone mislead or lie about anything or dismiss anyone? We won't be able to go everywhere and interview everyone. That's common sense. There is no conspiracy... There is nothing "suspect." Thus far, we've turned out the ONLY bonus features on these DVD sets... Help us to help you! Why the antagonism? Seriously? If we ONLY wanted to find the Turtle Bus and the girl from VH1, we would have (and did find them already). THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO NEED TO COME HERE OTHERWISE IF THAT WAS THE MASTERPLAN. We're doing some more bonus features for the Lionsgate DVD sets. Not sure what Lionsgate has announced, or what we can say as we are not part of them and only hired by them as a separate entity to provide bonus material. But PART of what we are doing is a relatively short but hopefully as ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE piece that profiles a handful of TMNT super-fans. Not to embarrass them, not to have a bunch of obnoxious voiceovers telling you about them, but to have them speak in their own words and show off any cool stuff they may have -- IF THEY HAVE IT (looks great on video), tattoos, whatever. We don't have the funds, time, whatever else to locate and interview everyone who is worthy but we'd love your help with finding some great, enthusiastic, intelligent, articulate people and we also would love to hear your suggestions / comments. And whoop there it is.

I don't have anything to contribute really, but sounds pretty awesome to me. I'm just glad we're getting something. Any extras is better than no extras and the interviews on the 4th & 5th seasons were....Bodacious~!11.:P SINCERELY THANK YOU... It was a labor of love for us. Not every project we do is as awesome as Turtles. Plus Townsend is also the freaking voice of NBC. And James is UNCLE PHIL! C'mon, that's cool. All six of those cats were SO awesome, gracious... Just excellent.

You guys do good work. I'd offer to be interviewed, but I'm afraid my collection is very modest and without knowing what you'd want in an interview I'm not sure if you'd want me.

*raises hand* I'm the one with the turtle bus. Hi.

I don't have a huge monstrous collection but I am a BIG BIG Raph fan.....although it started with the classic show, I'm more of a movie 1 fan. I love animatronics.
My computer room is different now, I FINALLY...well it's still in the works...redecorating that room! No more white walls!! It's still mostly TMNT but I've added my other fandoms like Hellboy, DrWHO and little bits here & there of others junk.
I've done my 15 min of fame though, I'm happy.
It would take ALOT to twist my arm...and I'm in SoCal.....my hubby wasn't overly thrilled with having a film crew here for Fanatical, I LOVED the experience, it was neat.
But I'm not sure I can do another one.

I'd like to apologize for some of the community that is just over-negative over anything TMNT related lately. It always says a lot when people in charge actually come to the community/fandom to hear their opinions.

To me personally "fans' collection would be an ok extra but I'd much prefer to have the Turtle Tips (public service announcements) as extras.

Not to mention getting the three missed episodes (Planet of the Turtleoids , once upon a time machine). And hope they meant to skip the "European Tour" episodes.
I'd also prefer some kind of making ofs or old tapes of the show that you could dig up from the vault instead.

The interviews in Season 4 were good btw.

omg hahahahaha. Pure win. Chris Latta would be proud.

Also, I would really like to say I'm very disappointed in the amount of negativity going on here. This is a guy looking for help on an official TMNT project, and he's gotten more grief than help. This is a TMNT community, we should be coming together and trying to assist, not making things more stressful.

official mod hat on at this point, let's please try and keep this negativity out of the thread.

Well I am in Pittsburgh, PA at the moment I have half my collection here and the other hald in Cali (which sucks believe me!)
But I'd seriously be up for this if you'd like to come to my current home here.
I'm sure it's to far though, but perhaps not *shruggs*

There are a few things I'd like to see on the dvds though and that would be:

The Planet of the Turtleoids 2 Parter.

Once Upon A Time Machine.

The Turtle Tips shorts.

More interviews with the stars of the show.

Old Playmates Toys TV Advertisments.

I'd also like to see something like maybe some behind the scenes footage of the show being made if anything like that exists.

Character design art would be a killer bonus.

Commentary by the voice actors or writers would be amazing! (something that should have been done since the first season onward, I can't lie I'd buy them all again if Lionsgate released them all with new features.)

Perhaps a where are they now? Spoof feature about what have the characters been up to since the shows end. (Sort of like behind the music)

I also would really like to see Box Art that reflects the old show and doesn't mimic the modern day turtles cartoon.
With the Red Sky episodes being released on dvd soonish I hope the box art will reflect those seasons.

Well that's all I can think of for now.
I think it's simply great that you are doing this and involving the fans!

All I can say is thanks. I'm glad you guys are looking into it, and I hope it gets solved in due time.

-->>Thanks, G for the vote of confidence. I do appreciate that.

It's not so much me having ' questionable moments' .. i can handle myself professionally & "normally" in real life .

The issue is i'm often very honest.. maybe sometimes even too much for my own good. How many jobs or things i wonder i may have lost because of this.

I did my best to explain myself in my message to the guy, but i was unsure the whole time i should have contacted him. But like most of the time, like everything i do i took the chance and did it.

( I excel at spitting in the wind. )

The truth and facts of the matter i think may be more than what they'll be wanting to show in this feature.

Again it seems like they are looking for people who have invested allot of money into their fandom. That's what i'm getting from this.

I don't come from that cloth.

If my perception of this is wrong, please someone tell me.

I am a little confused still, and a bit humiliated.

That would be me. It's amazing that LionsGate is confusing Planet of the Turtleoids with the European Episodes. you'd think the two titles alone would be a clue that they are not the same.

I hope that Visual Commentary helped explain this a bit better. It'd be a whole lot easier at the start of things if LG had actually gotten a fan to organize the DVD production in the first place.

As it was, David Wise told me that originally they where going to release the EDITED version of the pilot until he explained the error of their thinking...

Yo, guys!

I was one of guys who was chosen to be interviewed. The journalist, an independent contractor working for Superhero, just left my apartment about three minutes before this post. He's a real nice guy. He took pictures and video shots of my collection, took some shots of the apartment (it's a basement apartment with pipes), then we sat down and he asked me some questions. After that I swung my 'chucks around a little for the camera and he was back off to, what I assume to be, his office in Indianapolis.

If you guys have any specific questions about the process, I'll be happy to answer questions.

Well, the other weapons I'm most familiar with are Escrima sticks and knives, which aren't familiar Turtles weapons. So the 'chucks seemed only natural to use.

The guy came over around 11:45AM and left around 1:20PM-ish. So, around an hour and a half. Setting up the right lighting and andgles and stuff for the different shots he take to take is probably what ate up most of his time.
