View Full Version : What would happen if the ooze touches a human.

Not talking about the OT, but in any other version when the ooze touches an animal they turn into a humanoid creature with an increase in intelligence and physical enhancements. My question is what would a human look like when coming in contact with the mutagen?

they would turn into turtles, or theyd be very ugly.

They should keep the old toon origin, where a human who touches it turns into whatever animal he was recently in contact with.
But in the Mirage universe...I have no clue.

In the Archie-verse and OT-verse when a human is infected by the ooze they become whatever animal they had last touched (IE Hamato Yoshi becoming his pet rat, Mondo becoming his pet Gecko, That guy who became the Chameleon)
I don't think they've had human to ooze contact in Mirage. It's mostly been animals and plants.

Either what has been said- probably closest to Archie.
Or just plain get superpowers, perhaps related to those of the animal they came in contact with the latest. A la Spiderman or the sort.

Well, I know from a TMNT role-playing book called "After the Bomb" as well as another one that covers time-travel called "Transmutations" (I think), there's a section that covers what happens to humans when they mutate, either by TCRI mutagen, or other similar stuff.
Basicly humans mutate in one of two possible directions...
They either super-evolve physicaly... becoming stronger, faster, more durable, etc..
Or they super-evolve mentaly... becoming super intelligent and developing ESP and psychic abilities as well as telekinesis.
Depending on how far they go on either end, they will either develope to have visibly very powerful bodies, or on the other end of the scale, their bodies will become frail and thin, taking on the appearance of classic "grey" aliens... or even much further down the road, their limbs and torso will shrink, making them appear more like floating large fetuses.
And since those TMNT role-playing books are loosely based on the Mirage comics, I think that's basicly an indication of how humans would mutate in the Mirage universe.

So who's all been mutated with the TCRI mutagen in the Mirage canon?
I can only think of a short list:
Donatello
Leonardo
Michelangelo
Raphael
Splinter
Leatherhead
Bloodsucker (via Raphael's blood)

Yeah, I figured the second movie, despite its liberties, still went the comic route with the Ooze. Shredder turning into 'Big Sexy The Turtle Killer' made sense with Mirage canon.
As for Bloodsucker, I always thought the story was kinda weird. First off, how the hell can normal-turtle Raph know to bite and suck his mutated blood back from Bloodsucker? And also, if that's canon... then what about any time the turtles get bitten by mosquitoes or whatnot? We'd have an army of mutant skeeters flyin around. And what happened to the vampires that bit Raph?

In OT rules - You'd go freaky if you'd not been in contact with anything in particular (For example: Carter turning into a yellow hulk-esk guy with silly hair who's clothes can disappear and reappear apparently)
In Mirage rules - ... I have no clue... :-?

If a human touched TCRI Mutagen it would be... interesting. Since it's debatable what the TCRI Mutagen actually does... does it truly just hyper-evolve whatever it touches, bypassing millions/billions of years of evolution? Or is it simply the byproduct/waste of the Utrom's humanoid skin, mixed with transmat waste... so it basically just makes whatever it touches humanoid, like the skin of the utroms did that they generated?
It's debateable.
The original cartoon's mutagen was retarded. You touch an ant (or any life form), then some mutagen, then morph into Ant-Man. Which just opens a ridiculous can of worms. Technically, wouldn't you automatically just morph into some kind of hybrid amoeba, or bacteria, or virus? It's just asinine.
Jester
02-11-2009, 11:04 PM
And that's just it, the OT ooze wasn't consistent either.
Remember Mutagen Monster? The mutant cow didn't come into contact with another animal it just merged together.
Heck, what did Shredder do with the rhino and wart hog after he used them to create Bebop and Rocksteady?
And what mutagen exactly did Carter come in contact with? And how did the Turtles mutations into human having originally been with Yoshi deteriorate? Were they becoming less human and more Turtle?

The original canister still had some ooze in it. Carter touched it and mutated.
Humans mutating. Well there's various forms of Mutagenic compounds. You could just end up being all furry like what happened to Beast. His fur was a result of him falling in a vat of mutagenic compound.
You know what's really weird? There was an ep of the OT where Shredder had an anti-mutagen that allowed anybody who was mutated turn into what they were before (actually 2 eps as Splinter became human again for a time). The anti-mutagen was in cookies. Mikey ate one and...became human! WTF? And when his brothers discovered what had been done they went looking for him...To this day I wonder how they KNEW what Mikey would look like as a human. They never saw him turn and they looked thru the city and saw somebody who might be him. It was weird.

It didn't matter. I was what...like 6 years old when the old toon was airing and I didn't care that humans transformed into animals or vice versa.
I guess that like the Turtles/Splinter and Leatherhead, it just made more sense to continue in that direction with more animal mutants than anything else.

There was the retro-mutation gun featured in Shredder Gets Splintered, which Shredder demonstrated on video showing his shooting a mutant punk with it, with the punk reverting to his original human state. But it shot some sort of electric ray, rather than dispensing a chemical. But the episode you refer to I wouldn't call an anti-mutagen, for eating the cookies would then have turned Michelangelo into a pet shop turtle!
Also in that episode, the Turtles sprayed chermical on a random teenager they thought was Michelangelo (and wasn't), and I think the Human Michelangelo was the one who located his fellow Turtles.

And I am reminded of the episode The Gang's All Here, where Rcoksteady and Bebop have to meet with the members of their old gang, and since they are mutants their old gang of course fails to recognize them. So Rocksteady says that he will prove who he is, and runs through a brick wall, smashing it. Then one member says that he is convinced Rocksteady is who he was, because only he would do something so stupid. :)

Pizza Face baked himself in a Retromutagen Oven.... whatever the damn hell that means.. o.O I mean was he trying to commit suicide???
Mutagen Man fell in some sort of mutagen acid or whatever. I still don't know how the OT got away with the scene of the poor geek's body parts randomly floating around in the vat of Mutagen. And considering he's like... a brain and spinal cord floating around in a jar filled with Mutagen that somehow has arms and legs.... he was like OT Baxter, wasn't he?
Then we have Muckman that somehow mutated into some sort of.... living pile of garbage and his lil buddy turned into some lil yellow thing...... the hell???

It was another chemical Rocksteady and Bebop dumped out of a lab.

Yeah, I always wondered that, too. Wouldn't he've become a rat/turtle hybrid? same with Dirtbag & Groundchuck, I say this, cause the last people to touch them were Rocksteady & Bebop, whom were already mutated, so technically shouldn't they've turn into humanoid versions of the animals that they were, plus a little mix of warthog & rhino?

In the pilot it's revealed that the ooze makes it's target changing into what ever animal he/she have most recently been in contact with, and also that hamato yoshi where mostly with his rat friends, so it does make sence.

Cept of course.... the fact that the last animals Yoshi touched were the turtles themselves that were touching the Mutagen. There shoulda been 5 mutant turtles, following the OT logic, just that one of them was already human.
Weird. Would a once-human Splinter-Turtle look any different than a fishbowl mutant turtle?

Splinter actually steps on the mutagen before he even touches the turtles. I see it as him coming out of a room where he was just with the rats although we never see this. If that's true then it wouldn't matter he touched the turtles as the mutagen would already be affecting his cell structure.
Here's a screen cap.

Killing off a main character, among the "good guys" too, would probably have been considered to be "too violent" for a kids carton back in the 1980's, probably a major reason to the change.

I can assure you that I very well know how it went in the original series.
You're talking to someone who's been a TMNT fan for just over 20 years. I ain't a newbie.
But no. Realisticly, a human wouldn't mutate into a rat-person just because they handled some rats recently before then (assuming mutagen was real).
It doesn't scientificly make sence. And I beleive someone in this thread pointed out that if that is actually how mutagen works, then in that case a human would mutate into some kind of bacteria-creature (since that's what's likely on the person's hands).
