View Full Version : Lair Layout
Does anyone have a good idea of the layout of the lair?
Also, out of curiosity, which lair was your favorite? I liked the one from the original movie. From the 2K3 eps, probably the one they spent a majority of their eps in (a'lintiyan).

Does anyone have a good idea of the layout of the lair?
That's a good question. I've wondered that myself.
as for my fave lair, it would definetly be the lair of the original tv series. I really liked that it was made up of various rooms. And it had a very nice, settled, cozy look to it. It had a look like they really did live there for years and developed and organized their living space much like a typical home.
My second fave is the lair in the second movie. I liked that it was a section of an abandoned subway station, complete with a broken down subway train. And after the guys dressed up the place with things, it started looking pretty cozy.
The lair from the first movie, as well as the lair from the 2007 movie, I was cool with. They had a nice feel to it, but my problems with them was... well, the lair in the first movie I found to be way too cluttered and messy. And not messy in a "I made myself at home" kinda way, but more like they just tossed a bunch of junk into a storage room. That's what it looked like to me. Just a cluttered, messy storage unit rather than an actual living space.
The lair of the 2007 movie was pretty good, but I didn't get much of a cozy, "homey" feel from it. Looked more like some public hangout for teens (like a recreation center) than an actual home.
The one I liked least would have to be the huge spacious one in the 2k3 series. The one they found after the mousers.
What I didn't like about it was pretty much because it was huge and spacious. It was like a big auditorium. Hardly cozy. Like really, it was f***ing huge and hollowed out. You could put a space shuttle in the center.
I don't really have much of an opinion on the lair of the Mirage series because I just don't see much of it in the comics.

Oh I like the larger lair of the 2k3 series and the 4th movie. It is good for each member of the family to have his own space.
I like the one from the original TV series as well. It still gave everyone space in each room.
My second fave is the lair in the second movie. I liked that it was a section of an abandoned subway station, complete with a broken down subway train. And after the guys dressed up the place with things, it started looking pretty cozy.
When they find that lair is my favorite part of the second movie. I also agree that the A'lintyan lair from the 2K3 series was huge, but when they left it I was actually disappointed for them!

I like ot's layout best, with each there rooms across eachother, with the blankets and the little tv and all. nt's high tech lair is great to, but i prefer the one in ot best.

i liked the TMNT1 lair, 2k3 cos it fit the cartoon well, and i even didnt mind the subway lair, that was a good succession of the first home they had.
as for the cleanliness of the first movie lair, they live in a tunnel system, not far off the sewer & subway systems...it's not gonna be homey and cushy. They dont have a lot of room either.
Going to the subway lair was the solution...roomy, dojo areas, probably actual bathrooms donnie could fix with plumbing, internet access once he found the right wiring...

That looks ridiculously futurestic. Looks more like Area 51 than the lair.
Now here's a lair that was designed to perfection..

I second Ryona. I love the old lair layout.
I'd love to do a full layout of that lair through screenshots, but this as far as I've gotten. Can anyone else complete my collection?

Alright, here's my attempt to map out some of the lair through caps from "Nightmare in the Lair." I think you are right that it isn't always consistent. The most glaring inconsistency is the sleeping area. Sometimes the Turtles are seen sleeping in bunk beds in a tunnel. Usually, they each have their own room. I wonder if Splinter sometimes made them sleep together for the sake of community?

TV... the centerpiece of the Turtles' lair. Without the TV, the plot doesn't happen.:D

The TV couch is in the background. This is the bedroom area. Donatello's room is in the hole on the right.

Mikey's room is also on the right, past Don's.

Leo is in the center of the bedroom area. Each turtle has their own "room." Raph's (bottom left), Leo's rooms(top left), Don (top right) and Mike (bottom right).

This cat appears from the other side of the bedroom area. Splinter's meditation area is the room behind the cat.

Donatello's room also functions as an entrance to his Lab. Creepy Eddie enters from the Lab through Don's room.

There is at least one entrance to the training room, as "pirate" Raph demonstrates:

Next we see of Raph (in "Turtle of a Thousand Faces") he's taking off his costume in his own room. Could his room be an entrance to the training room?

Cool study of the lair, oldmanwinters. I think discrepencies with the bedrooms and meditation rooms stem from the fact that the lair wasn't clearly designed until season three. It seemed different in each episode for the first two seasons.
Cool study of the lair, oldmanwinters.
I agree. Now all that's needed is for someone to find/create a blueprint of the entire complex to bring it all together.

The entrance to the bedroom area is past the TV on the left. Obviously, kitchen is offscreen to the right.
I may just be reading that wrong, but the entrance to the bedrooms is clearly on the side in which the camera is placed, opposite of the Main Exit. I believe the doorway to the left of the picture is to the training area.
With the pictures, I made this floor plan.

It ain't perfect, but it's not far off. I too have no idea where the library goes. I did notice it has the same mate as Splinter's room. Maybe Splinter's real room is behind the screen at the steps and his meditation area and the library are one and the same. It's possible due to animation errors (I mean, you said it yourself that Splinter's room keeps changing).
Also, I could have swore Don's lab and the kitchen were connected (which would make sense), but the pictures say otherwise.
EDIT: I made the Bedroom to big. Don's Lab top wall should be nearly even with the kitchen. This is just general placement.

I could probably take a go at it, but where is the tunnel that leads to the blimp and where would the van go?
That's something that puzzles me. I believe the episode that screenshot is from is "Raphael Vs. the Volcano." The context didn't provide much help on where the tunnel is located though.

I belive they keep them away from the lair like they do with the com station. Their always shown walking between the lair and the Van parking. It really makes sense because there's less chance of being followed.
EDIT: Plus, they need them near Sewer exits. The lair may be in the middle of downtown for all we know.

Looks like he went directly from the TV room into the training room. Since the kitchen, bedroom hall, and exit occupy the other three walls, it looks like the training room would have to be the other wall.
ONE PROBLEM, though... the floors don't match (or the style of door for that matter). MACC may be peering out of the TV room into the bedroom area, even though the next time we see him he is in the training hall.
Hmm, might need to watch this episode again!
Notice there appears to be a ladder in the training room.

Until mid season 3, the lair keeps changing. The TV room seems to be the only unaffected room. Oddly, in the first episode they have a bedroom area like the normal layout (I can't remember if it's exact or not). Most likly no one execpted this show to continue for long, so the layout wasn't finalized until season 3 when the show had over 60 episodes. Think of it like the bandana errors of the early seasons. They became less and less often over time. The Lair's layout got more and more one way over time.
The normal door in "Enter the Fly" is probably just miscommunication. I guess the sript called for a wooden door (Like Don's Lab door), but the animations at Toei thought they mention a normal wooden door.
Now then, that bunk bed is nothing but advertiement. If you've never noticed, Playmates' Lair Playset has a sticker on the back wall making a fake doorway that leads to the Turtles' room with (you guessed it) a bunk bed. Most likly, Playmates asked them to change to this to sell the playset. Lucky, it didn't keep.
All this talk reminds me of the time when I was a kid that I mapped my house to be a world. My brother's was a sea because he had blueish green carpet and the kitchen was the arctic. Things like that :P

I remember an episode where Rocksteady and Bebop actually did discover their lair, thought they couldn't remember how they found it afterwards when Shredder asked where it was. I assumed the Turtles would have relocated their lair anyway, as a precaution.

Wow, very astute observations, although I'll still keep an eye out for any way to resolve the continuity, since there are still a few wall unaccounted for (Splinter's room, training room, etc.). Also, that's very funny about mapping your house. I think a lot of kids do stuff like that. I think I did too.:D

Alright, I know I've resurrected another long dead thread, but I have a good reason for it!
The "definitive" answer to the lair mapping question is revealed in this very blurry scan of the OT Lair layout sheet which I found on the late, great NinjaTurtlesNetwork.com (http://web.archive.org/web/20040208235158/www.ninjaturtlesnetwork.com/Misc/Misc.htm):
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a56/slimer2erasmus/TMNT/OTLairmodelsheet.jpg
And for comparison, here's Blade Raider's map, which is a very close match outside of a couple of rooms, which I'm guessing are the weapons room, training room, and library (next to Splinter's room?):

Pretty cool blueprint, just wished it was legible.
One thing Oldmanwinters: you mentioned the Blimp Chamber being at the end of a tunnel, could it be at the far end of the Training Room? In each shot you provided the Training Room appears to be situated in a tunnel that either arcs around or doesn't have good lighting.
Also, perhaps the Lair itself is in a sub-level of the sewer system and the Training Room ladder leading upward goes up into the garage holding the Party Wagon?
I considered this since I remember seeing on a History Channel show the NYC sewer system being an elaborate underground network spenning several levels deep after.

Here a screenshot of the tunnel by the TV and you can see weapons on the back wall, so you might be right about it being the training room.

It's a place where they put their extra weapons.

Yeah I agree I like the OT lair the best. It reminds me of a house underground with tunnels, it just looks warm and cozy. Now in the 1st movie that place was trashed! But for good reason because come on...in real life that is probably how there lair would look. I would like to see someone make a custom sewer playset I think it would be awesome!:D
So has someone made an actual layout drawing of it? Also what about the other lairs?

There was one on page 2, but the image is gone. There is still the blurry scan of the map provided by Playmates back in the '90's.

In a word: YES.
In another word: ABSOLUTELY.
In a paragraph:
Best dollar I ever spent through PayPal. Once you pay, you should be sent an email with a download link that is open for four hours. If you have any trouble, Francis Moss should be happy to work out the difficulties with you. I was one of the first to download, so I actually did have some trouble, but he worked with me to make sure it got done right.

I figured I'd revive this thread to share a very unique look at the good ol' Sewer Lair courtesy of one of the vintage Japanese publications I just received in the mail today:

It provides some good points of reference for the training room, Splinter's room, and the garage, as well as the storm drain exit!
There are some obvious errors, though, most notably the entrances to the turtles' individual rooms. There is no weapons room connecting the training area to the main living room on this layout. Also, I think Donatello's Lab is behind his room (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=746223&postcount=38), rather than alongside of it as suggested by this illustration.

The lair in the OT sure looked quite cozy and would feel right at home. The 2K3 series looked way too high tech despite alien technology trying to explain it. One security measure Donny would have implemented would be an alarm system that would go off if anybody not carrying a turtle-comm would come too close.

Oldmanwinters - wow! This thread is made of win.
Thanks for compiling all these great screenshots & info. I'd love it if someone made a 3D model of the OT Lair (which I agree is the coziest and most well-decorated of all the versions...I'd totally live in it, lol), preferably a real model scaled to size of the TMNT action figures, similar to what was shown in that Japanese scan. Now THAT would be awesome!

Hello, everybody,
So I recently had an idea to replicate the sewer liar from the OT, and I stumbled upon this forum and have been reading everybody's posts for the last few days.
This is perfect, because you all had the exact same idea as me, and you guys have pretty much plotted out the whole lair with awesome blueprints and screenshots to back them. While reading what everybody said, I realized that the blueprint posted by oldmanwinters (http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a56/slimer2erasmus/TMNT/OTLairmodelsheet.jpg) is basically the answer to almost all of our questions, IF it were legible, as you have all discussed.
This has been KILLING me for the past few days, so I finally decided to create an account and ask you guys and gals if anybody might be able to track down where this came from, or even just a copy that is more legible. I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I'm dying to see that blueprint in greater detail. It has to be the answer, because it explains how Don's lab is connected to the garage, which I found evidence of in the 8-page PDF that was for sale for 99 cents (which I totally bought, thanks for the link!). And plus, it contains the weapons room, so obviously that blueprint is probably the most accurate, I'm assuming.
Thanks for reading this. I'm dying to get my hands on a copy of that paper.
Sincerely,
Hunter:tgrin:

The lair from the first movie felt so real, like it could actually be found in a real sewer. As far as aesthetics go, however, the abandoned subway from The Secret of the Ooze was the coolest to me. And on musical terms, the OT did the sound of a sewer home right.

I found 4kids' lair to look too fake; the ceilings were just way too tall to feel like a sewer and it felt more like a temple or dungeon chamber. The Mirage lair however is under appreciated in terms of layout and appears quite well-designed. I feel that it resembled the lair shown in the first NES game, with its automatic door with "Teeth" shutting it closed, and looked like an actual above ground studio apartment room.
Genesis

That's true; I'd almost forgotten about the Mirage lair. I aways liked its brick wall entrance (to which TMNT paid tribute), and it looks remarkably similar to the OT's.

I registered just to say thank you to Vivi for starting this thread so many years ago and oldmanwinters for the insane amount of screencaps.
I LOVED my Sewer Playset when I was a child. It was a home all my other figures envied except for perhaps the Ghostbusters, who had their Firehouse. However, it did bother me, even then, that Playmates didn't even try to make it resemble the cartoon(That bunk bed hallway featured in the playset is seen twice in the cartoon, but it wasn't where they ordinarily slept). It was a sewer lair, but it wasn't THE sewer lair. This thread helped me do what I wanted to do for over 20 years, which was simply to have the cartoon lair represented in the playset we were given.
Mainly, I wanted to replicate the TV Room from the cartoon show inside of the Playmates Sewer Playset. That seemed iconic and the most logical choice. The size of the playset requires you to scale things down a bit. Portals are a little on the small side if you stand a figure right next to them for comparison, and the wall decorations are not spaced as far apart as seen on the cartoon. If you fudge the sizes and the distances only as much as needed to make it fit in the playset, you wind up with this.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y230/fugitoid/DSC00190.jpg
The scale may be a little on the smallish side, but that's often true with playsets. Case in point, have your ninja turtles climb on the side of your Technodrome playset and see how out of scale it looks.
The brick walls, sewer portals, dragon poster and mirror are all from screenshots in this thread. I believe I googled the "One Way" and "Stop" traffic signs. I downloaded the screenshots, made the the portals and the signs and the dragon poster all seperate elements that I could arrange on the brick background however and wherever I needed in Microsoft Paint. Then I put thick cardboard on the floor to make it even, since the playset has that "floormat" part that is raised up. Then I cut the box for a 24 pack of soda so that it would fit inside the playset. I printed the backgrounds on white cardstock, and affixed them to the soda box. With paperclips. I've since glued them, which looks much better.
I really think the printed toon lair background and the childhood toy nostalgia of it actually being inside the original playset that I loved as a kid, merges the two in an awesome combo.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y230/fugitoid/DSC00189.jpg
I'm insanely happy with how this turned out. Master Splinter can finally watch his soap operas in the comfort of his true home. And it was all thanks to this thread, so thank you!

I don't know if this was discussed earlier in this thread, but no one mentioned the...bathroom. I know it's not important in terms of the series/plot, BUT when I was watching the OT episode "The Ice Creature Cometh" Season 5 they showed it. YET it was in a bizarre location.
The scene starts out with Donatello using his invention to flame defrost the ice-covered refrigerator in the kitchen, but naturally it dysfunctions. So Leonardo runs to the bathroom (you can see the sink and shower stall, and if I remember...even a toilet) to get a wet towel to put out the fire starting in the kitchen.
Using this OT floor plan that Blade Raider made:
http://vault.error-403.net/files/3/Public/TMNTOTLair.PNG
What's interesting is that the bathroom is shown being just to the right of the kitchen, BUT wouldn't that lead directly outside of the lair? Meaning they would encounter the sewer canal. But whatever...just another room I guess to confuse us all. LOL
I'm trying to remember also wasn't that same doorway used in the OT episode "Leonardo the Renaissance Turtle" when the reprogrammed Rex somehow finds the Turtles' lair? I don't know...
I tried cleaning up the image and deciphering the text of the scanned floorplan to get this:
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt241/vivi_letigre/TMNTLAIROTTRACE_zps305c742a.png
And to make it easier to read, made a copy like this:
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt241/vivi_letigre/TMNTLAIROT_zps9222ed81.png
I could not decipher everything, but if anyone has CSI-like powers of image enhancement or could fill in any of the gaps, I'd gladly fix it. I noticed that they haven't marked all the doorways in as 'portholes', such as from the tv room into the kitchen.
Thanks to oldmanwinters and bladeraider for the screenshots/scan and layout (which is indeed very close to the scanned copy).

Donatello's workshop must have some own exit, since professor Lloyd Cycloyd could run out from it directly (he only seemed to care for Donatello's workshop workshop, of course).
I'm pretty sure they move between season 1-2, since Baxter Stockman's mouser robots trash the lair during season 1.

It is possible that there is an entrance on the opposite wall to the lab door, but it is difficult to determine from the scan. It may have also been an inconsistency.
There are also doors/ladderways not accounted for as seen in the screenshots, particularly the ones in the kitchen.

I actually wondered about that when I got interested in figuring out the layout. I eventually concluded that... it being a sewer... they just left the lair and found a place. Looking at the scan again, I think the room just left to the TV room is the "Weapons Room", and beside that the "Practice Room". Anyone care to agree/disagree with that guess?
Also, is it possible that the room below Raph's is the bathroom? It would mean that it is accessed from the garage - which is weird but better than no bathroom.
The 'to surface' marking I've just assumed was a ramp that led to an outfall pipe, like this one (http://www.ehow.com/how_7690162_size-storm-sewer-pipes.html).

So... what do people think of the new lair form the 2k12 show?
Apparently it looks basically like this in a wide ankle shot.
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_me491h6dpq1r2nvplo4_1280.jpg
So what do we got? like the 2k3 show it seems to be just one massive room, though in difference to the 2k3 it's explained why it's so big as it is in fact, and abandoned train station, so that's pretty neat.
I gotta admit I had no idea that there was open air to the dojo to the left, I thought there was some kind of a door sepperating the dojo from the main room, but I must admit, I really like the tree that stands there, a nice little touch, and apparently the dojo is also where Splinter sleep, he just seemed to be sleeping at a wide open space in "I'monster." as well as sitting meditating under that tree when-ever he does that.
Also his shrine with the picture is some-where in that dojo.
To the right, we have Donnies workshop, where he has a free view over the main lair, which I did notice in the TV-show, and that's pretty neat, he can keep an eye on his brothers while he work, and they can keep an eye on him.
That stair-case in the middle on this drawing, I guess is just there to illustrate where it should be in the play-set, since the actual lair don't have a stair like that.
We know there is a kitchen some-where, and it's relatively close to this main room, we can actually see this room from the kitchen as there is only half a wall sepperating it.
Also, Donnie have a larger work-shop in exstension to his own, so I am going to guess that if we keep continuing to the right, there is an opening, leading to a sort of garrage where Donnie keeps his go-cart and so on.
We have yet to see any of the turtles rooms, and if they even have private rooms is a question left un-answered, as I said.. Splinter doesn't even have his own room, he just got the dojo to sleep in.
And we got the entrance through the sewer pipe where you swim through the water.
I am going to guess there is another entrance since I doubt April want to swim that way every single time she visits.
Overall I really like this new lair, I like the fact that it's an abandoned train station and we see that.
I like the colours is more dimmed down than the 2k3 show, so it feels more like a sewer lair than the big bright clean space.
It's not as homely as the TOS show, I like the dojo and I like all the personalised touches all around, Splinter has decorated the place with a lot of japanese thingies, they have rice-paper slide doors around the place, and the turtles have some wall-posters a ping-pong machine and all kinds of personalised stuff, which is neat.
I gotta ask though, where on earth is that door Splinter keeps dissapearing behind and closing after him? It needs to be some-where, he sure uses it a lot!

This is such an awesome thread! A long time ago someone in the fandom made a really cool layout of the classic toon lair, though sadly it's long gone and I have no idea what happened to that person.
Nice work, Vivi! Do you have some skills with the language or did you just run some of the words through Google translate like I've tried to do in the past?
thanks - I can read the katakana which literally just reads as english words (most of the words here are this). The rest is google translated.
So... what do people think of the new lair form the 2k12 show?
Love the pic - I never noticed that the training room was raised above the living room like that. And what is it with that spiral case to the ceiling, is that there in the show?

If it is, I certainly never noticed it.
I think it's just there to illustrate where it should be for potential play sets, as there is a play-set with a stair-case like that.
Also, I doubt the lair is close enough to the upstairs that they would have an opening going straight to the top-side and bring in light. That gotta be there for the train-set.
Also.. I doubt this drawing is entirely complete. Again, I sort of lack that rice-paper door Splinter keeps dissapearing behind and closing after himself, it just isn't there and I have litterately no idea where it is supposed to be, as well as the kitchen which is sepperated from the main room with a long piece of blue cloth (I just noticed in the most recent episode, the kitchen has no door, just that blue cloth.)
(Edit)
No wait, skip the rice-paper door, I found it! it's up in the dojo, if you look after, you can see in the opposite side of the dojo, at the back-end wall, there's a little door, I believe that would be Splinters own room where he dissapears into for solitude.

I watched that episode after you mentioned it. I think the bathroom thing was just there as part of the visual gag. You see the lair altered to suit the story or animators in other episodes as well. Rooms will suddenly have an extra exit where there clearly wasn't one before, and then in the next episode it's back like it was. Things like that. As you point out, Leo runs out to the tv room, is shown in the bathroom, then runs back through the kitchen doorway. There's no where on the established layout that the bathroom could have been within running distance. Maybe this was the show's extremely brief tutorial for the kids watching of what to do in case of fire. Still. There's a sink right there in the kitchen, Leo. No need to go to the Phantom Zone bathroom.
So weird to see a toliet IN the sewer.:teek:

Wow. I had never gone through this thread before until now. And I gotta say that all of the information on the OT Sewer Lair is just incredible! Great job everyone in unraveling the mystery behind the lair! It's nice to see what the layout really looks like altogether!
I had thought of making my Sewer Playset look like the OT Lair as well. Interesting to note that the 1989 Sewer Playset has a decal of the Turtles' bedroom with bunk beds instead of the individual rooms. I think that idea was taken from the first 2 seasons where, as mentioned before on this thread, the turtles had bunk beds.
However, someone on this thread had mentioned that the turtles at first had individual rooms, switched to bunk beds, and then switched back to their own bedrooms. I only remembered them having bunks in the first 2 seasons?

That layout can't be right. In every screen shot I have (and I've been doing my own screencaps to figure out the layout), Mike's and Don's rooms are side by side, but there is no portal between them, and there is a doorway to the lab in the kitchen, which means it would have to be BEHIND Don's room, and from the screenshots I've seen, it is accessed from both the kitchen and his room directly. That makes more sense than going through Mike's or Splinter's rooms, anyway. And I've never seen the storage shed next to Splinter's room anywhere in the show. Could that be the bathroom others have referred to, and that Leo went into to get the wet towel? It would make sense if he had to go through the TV(living) room to get to it- possibly by way of the training room. I'll admit that it's an odd place to put one, and inconvenient besides for getting in and out of, but it's more likely than a storeroom that they don't even really need. They have plenty of other space for that sort of thing- like the garage and the weapons room. Although, they DO have a closet to store their trench-coats and other "disguises", somewhere. I think it is either in the weapons room or the garage.
Also, I too, recall them having separate rooms in the first few episodes when they meet April- in fact, I believe she first wakes up in either Mike's or Don's room. Then in I think it was episode four or five, she read them a bedtime story in the bunk beds, and in the episode Attack of 50 ft Irma, they have them again when Mikey is decorating for the party, but the rest of the time, they appear to have their own rooms. There may be a couple of other eps with the bunk beds, but I don't recall off-hand. So maybe there is another bedroom somewhere? Hmm, do they have a guest room? April's gotta sleep somewhere when she visits!

Somewhat old news at this point, but I recently acquired a Japanese TMNT encyclopedia from the early 1990s. It included a few pages of maps of the old sewer lair and April's apartment.

Really hard to see, but the room to the left of Splinter's area is designated as a "Storage" area. Who knew?
Sorry the picture quality is too blurry to make out all the text details:

Feel free to post those screencaps, MsMarvelDuckie. We love to expand our knowledge of the lair layout!
You know, if I knew how to do screen-caps, I'd post a few of them- I've been compiling a whole library of shots from just about every episode/angle, to figure out where everything goes. I'm especially interested in the lab, dojo, and Splinter's room, and the alleged library that Leo was in when reading in the episode Leonardo is Missing. And the "missing" bathroom. They GOTTA have one SOMEWHERE....
The lab is weird, because sometimes there is a door to it in the kitchen; other times, that door is missing. I've also never actually SEEN a door from Donnie's bedroom to it, but there appears to be a second door from the lab to- somewhere, and given that the lab seems to be behind the kitchen and very big, that is the only other entrance-point that makes sense. (Sometimes- the door has an odd habit of not being there consistently, just like the one from the kitchen. Is the lab in some kind of extra-dimensional space?)

What else is in that book, Winters? Any chance of scans? :)

I think the library is probably in the same area as the "Storage" room, perhaps marked off with a row of book shelves or something. I can see a small dividing line in the model sheet scan including in the Japanese book. The lab location is weird. I can't remember seeing a good shot of Donatello's bunk room to see if a door appears. You probably wouldn't know it wraps around to the garage areas in most shots of the lab in the show episodes.

Because the images/texts on those Japanese books goes well into the binding "gutter" it can be hard to make good scans. It's about 128 pages total and apparently published in 1994 by Kodansha.
Here's my summary of the encyclopedia's contents:
3 pages for table of contents
2 pages of introductory material
62 pages of the toy line (38 pages appear to also function as "character profiles" with the other 24 pages showcasing the more recent variant figures current at the time, probably 1993, I think)
14 pages of the Takara battle card line (similar to this (https://www.flickr.com/photos/22047800@N07/3635700055/))
6 pages on the Super Famicon version of TMNT Tournament Fighters
2 pages on TMNT history(1983-1993) going back to the original Mirage comics and showcasing the Japanese video tape set of the Fred Wolf show
4 pages on the 3 live-action movies
3 pages I already posted showing the Fred Wolf locations of the lair and April's places of work and business with some looks at the official model sheets
13 pages describing the Fred Wolf TV episodes current in Japan up to that time (Turtle Tracks - Rebel Without a Fin)
2 pages that appear to list the original air dates of the Fred Wolf TV episodes in Japan
16 pages of an original TMNT comic story: looks pretty silly as Shredder, Rocksteady, Bebop, and the Foot Soldiers appear to be terrorizing a pizza parlor until the TMNT (attempt) to come to the rescue. Splinter has some contribution to the story, but he kind of ends up hiding inside a wall or something. Very weird.

Well, I only have two or three good shots of Donnie's room, but it's just like Mikey's, and no door appears, so it's possible the other door goes into the garage or hanger instead. It's sort of up for grabs, at this point, but I like the idea of Donnie having direct access to the lab from his room for those late night bursts of "inspiration".

My favorite lair was the one the 2K3 turtles found in season 4. I just loved the layout! I really want to go to that part of Central Park someday.

The funny thing is, there IS a castle there, but nothing under it, as far as I've been able to find. It looks like their lair is inside a pump-station and/or filtration/treatment facility, but those are usually ABOVE GROUND. I did some poking around on-line regarding New York's sewer and water systems, and I found that the city has more than 25 sewage treatment plants, so that particular lair could easily be in one that was closed down, but there are none in that part of the city- certainly not in Central Park! As for the Castle itself, it's open to tourism, so I doubt they'd be living in it.

Maybe it's one of those deals like the Night at the Museum movies where guests think they are regular parts of the building decor during the day?

Yeeeaah.... That would be really hard to explain. I will add that the pond the Turtle-copter comes up from under IS there, and is, appropriately enough, called the "Turtle Pond", because so many of them have been released there. At least they'd be in good company!

You can see the turtles bedrooms, kitchen, lab, splinters dojo, training area, weapon room, and living room. Some other areas too. Looks like the tv show lair.

I'm working on a TMNT RPG game and during my research of the lair's layout I found these same images to base it on. I had found other sources that showed similar layouts as well.

Man this thread has some really helpful info. Has any body tried to make a 3D model of the turtle's layer using the diagrams/plans/layouts shown here?
Also has anybody found clearer pics of the turtles lair layout made for the original cartoon?
