TMNT Collected Book #1 (issues 1-11 + microseries)?

hi there,

I have been a TMNT cartoon ever since the cartoon started in the late 80s.

And now I am just getting into the comics.

So I plan on ordering some issues from Mirage's website and I am thinking about starting off with TMNT Collected Book #1 (issues 1-11 + microseries), but I was wondering does this book contain the issues from Volume 1 and what are the microseries?

Also is Mirage's ordering service good and quick?

There's actually a topic like this already.

To answer your questions yes 1-11 are part of Volume 1. The "microseries" in question are 4 issues, each devoted to one turtle. They're very good and follow the storyline.

Mirage's response and service are both excellent. You should certainly order from them. I have numerous times.

Yeah the Collected Book is issues from volume 1.

The micro series are the 4 TMNT one shots (one for each Turtle), Raph and Leo tie in quite heavily with the continuity of the series, Raph introduces Casey Jones whilst Leo's ties in directly with #10 (I won't say how as it'll ruin the story for you).

Overall the book is great, you'll see where the TMNT began and where they got a lot of influences for the new show (compare the Raph micro series to the recent Casey Jones episode).

Mirage's service is excellent, I got mine within two weeks and that's in the UK.

What is the address to order these tpbs. I've been looking for black and white reprints for TMNT for awhile, I didn't know they even existed.

The only bad thing about the Collected Books is that they don't include the original covers... However, I'm guessing that the printing and paper quality most likely are better in the books than in the original comics.

You mean they don't even have scans or a photo of the covers in between issues? How are they seperated? and do you have a copy and would recommend it? What's the cover look like?

It's kinda hard to tell when one issue ends and the next one begins (especially with the story arcs), but you can check the table of contents in each issue.

Anyways I plan on ordering Collected Book #1 first. But most likely I'll try to get the others after I read #1

I'd recommend all of them except book 5, it was a bit too wierd for me plus you don't really miss out by not reading it as it's not part of the in-house "Mirage Continuity".

This is just my opinion, if you want to know what they are about the official site has good sumaries of all the issues up to #50 but they do spoil the plot.

Out of all of the Book 4 is the best with 2 and 3 showing what happens in the year between the TMNT leaving NY (at the end of Book 1) and their return in Book 4.

As for how the issues are divided I think most of them have a blank page with the 4 TMNT stood at the bottom (I'd check but I only have the new series with me at uni). The only exception, I think, is Book 4 as it is all one story.

#4 Return to NY.
#2 Single issue stories by Eastman & Laird.
#3 A bit more "strange" stories then #2, but still good.
#5 Fun and "cartoony" out of continuity stories by Mark Martin.

And if you can find them, Collected Book #6 and #7 are really good.

Yeah I was gonna mention Books 6 and 7 but I've never seen them anywhere except in a price guide.

6 collects the 2 part story "The River" (Vol. 1#24-26)
7 collects the final 3 (I think :-?) in-house stories before the 40s (Vol. 1 #27-29)

There all good but it's probably easier to get the individual issues. If the official site doesn't have them then try milehighcomics.com, it has great delivery but they cost a little more for postage (it's been a while since I've used either so this might have changed).

Does anyone know where I can find pictures of the covers for each of these collected books because after I went to mail in my order for book #1, I stopped by my local comic shop and looked through the bins, and I saw some TMNT comics that were collected in very thin tpb's with the titles collection 2, 3, etc. I didn't see #1 though.

But I know I saw on the two of the covers say #5 and #6. One of the covers had the ninja turtles, april, and I think casey jones on the cover standing on a cliff of rocks and in the background there is a waterfall...i think.

If anyone could tell me where I could find covers for these collected books I would appreciate it very much.

Odd that none of the Collecteds contain the Fugitoid solo. That issue is hard enough to find on its own already, but perhaps First or Mirage felt it didn't contribute enough to the storyline anyway :P

On that note, the whole collected issues series runs confuse me. What collected books (and the issues contained therein) did First put out as opposed to Mirage Publishing? I bought First's Book 2 (which appears to collect issues 3-7, not sure), and later found out about Mirage's collected book 1.

If I remember it correct, the #2 has the Turtles on a rooftop, and #3 has the Turtles in samurai outfits.

I believe the First TPBs collects #1-3, #4-6, #7-9 and #10-12, but I have never seen them so I can't be sure.

I've definitely saw #6, #5, and the samurai outfits book at the comic shop.

I may have seen some of others as well, except for #1 because that was the one I was searching for.

So should I get these TPBs?...I probably will.

"The River" trilogy is by Rich Veitch. It's very good. As are the other two TMNT works by him #30 and Casey Jones: North By Downeast. I'd consider them all continuity.
