Heh, it's nice to see I'm not then ly one who thought instantly, 'gee, this april is rather annoying'. watching the video back, she's also got 'the bug eyes'....which combined with the way she talks down to the audience gives one the impression that she watches you while you sleep at night ;o)..

There are a few moments where a more down to earth personality slips through, and that's probably the real person underneath the suit.. Almost like she's trying way too hard.

But yeah, even though it was kidddy fodder, it was a quick 8 hours, and much better than spending it at home doing the same old same old.

Who cares if it's "kiddy fodder?" Isn't that what got most of us into the franchise in the first place? Don't deny it, if any of you were 5-10 again, you'd be b*tching at your parents to go or wishing this would have been in your area. Quite frankly, I'm glad this event happened. Seeing a kid in a turtle costume is a breath of fresh air compared to other crap (read: anything else).

Not too bad, seems like fun. Maybe like, if I was on vacation, and it would be one of the things I'd plan on for one of the days to attend, but not really the MAIN purpose I was there. But, it still looked fun! Great to see Ernie Reyes Jr.! April seemed like she won the part in an interview the day before, and had to stay up all night learning about the TMNT. She writes a bunch of notecards, drinks a Red Bull or smokes a cigarette, and does her stuff. Thanks for the footage!

The thing that is the most annoying is that the Mirage staff denies the old toon for the most part at every turn but yet they use it for just about everything they do.
Yet when anyone tries to use a more adult based tmnt approach people shoot it down saying oh it's a kids property, well yeah of course it is because of crap like this.

And I'm sure you recall the April we grew up with didn't act like a preschool children's show host.

When turtles came out I was 8 years old, I didn't care for costume characters back then either.
I was never a fan of coming out of their shells tour stuff and that's sort of what this reminds me of it's cheesy in a bad way, not in a silly light hearted way like the old toon.

It's just disappointing because I thought Mirage was trying to get away from this sort of stuff and with a new movie coming out I don't it just doesn't give me much hope.
Then I'd fall into the group who say if that's the case then why even do a re-boot movie.

Now see what you did ya made me go off on an old fashion tangent.

There are a lot of valid points in there, but wasn't this event free? Not everyone remembers the TMNT the way we do (we are "hardcore" fans after all), so they're just going to remember the basics, and if they see a basic representation of what they remember, they're more likely to be interested. It makes perfect sense from a market/luring P.O.V., you bait them with something they recognise and may remember fondly, and then drop the movie news on them.

I've been scouring message boards and the like lately, and there are so many people with extremely vague memories of the cartoon and/or the comics all crying out for (and some against) a "Dark Knight-ified" TMNT movie.

I haven't had a chance to watch the whole video yet, but was Steve Barron talking down to anyone the way April was? Was Gary? There's something there for everyone from the looks and sounds of things.

The video only has April and some karate kids showing up the turtle.:lol:

there's no Eastman, Gary, or Steve parts.
But I'd make a safe bet that out of the 3 only 1 of those people would talk down to anyone and it wouldn't be Kevin or Steve.;)

I know what your saying though Trist I just get annoyed that they don't seem to realize that there is more than one TMNT Universe and Mirage isn't taking advantage of all of them.

Murphy and Ryan Brown want to do stuff with the mutanimals for example but are always shot down so ryan has to use rejected characters for a new comic that could have been a brand new Mutanimals.

I think the NO's that get tossed around so easily need to stop, creativity is the key and it seems like most of the doors are locked.

Differnt worlds can co-exist without problems we've seen all the other companies do it, I do have faith that Mirage can do it also.
They just need to have a bit of faith in themselves first I think.

We're gonna have to wait till the sheriff and his deputy are asleep and steal the keys :P

Despite Tristan's attempts at defending everything Mirage does, there is great hypocrisy at Mirage and I have little to no faith in the TMNT ever having the respect they deserve so long as that's the case. And that will be the case so long as Peter blindly follows Gary and Gary continues to be a cheap {insert demeaning word of choice here}.

The fact is that absolutely no one at Mirage has actually watched more than a handful of episodes of the original TMNT cartoon because they think it's stupid and ridiculous and OMG it's not the comic books! So when the TMNT get revamped in 2003 not only is the new show nothing like the old cartoon (not saying that's a bad thing, just saying how it is), Mirage in general completely shuns everything about the old cartoon. As the years tick by they realize that that strategy is completely biting them in the ass. Eventually a few old school T-shirts show up in Hot Topics along with some other trinkets, and now with the 25th anniversary they seem to be completely embracing it - To the point where all of this crap (http://www.flickr.com/photos/terrible2z/3454125890/) will soon be coming out. They think they know what people want based on reading our discussions, but they're embracing it without actually understanding it. So long as they don't understand it, we're stuck with crap.

I have no beef with the Galabunga event. It looks to me like a lot of people showed up and had some fun. Could it have been better? Easily. But my expectations from the TMNT25 team are about ankle high as it is and this event might have actually been worth a kneecap or so.

But this is exactly why I fear this new movie. They're going to make up some crap that they think people want, but they're not really going to understand what they're doing and we're just going to get mediocrity ... again.

Watching the second half of part 2 and knowing that it has great people speaking to fans (adults) and not talking down to them like Barney & Friends puts this thing more in perspective.

I can't lie any time anyone speaks of Jim Henson (which steve did) it brings tears to my eyes, the guy left us way before his time and it saddens me to this day.

I really do have faith that they will adapt the comics into a great movie, I do hope they use everything though from the fight with the purple dragons to Baxter and the mousers.

It's also nice seeing Kevin Eastman around.

there is no trail of turtle goodies. they all dried up like you hoped they would rose. the show is on the out. the comic will probably end in december and the toyline as it stands is dead. we finally get something good out of all of this and you take it like a smack in the face. no one is out to get you but your constant negativity and ridiculous superiority you make yourself out as having is ********. you throw yourself in front of everyone. tristan just mad ea point about something that was not either for or against what vaughn was saying but another perspective and it might not even have been the mentality that went into the event but you went out of your way to snipe him and peter and gary. grow up and stop talking like an outdated meme.

I had this convo with Archon lastnight, the only reason I am a bit upset with the way he's treating that prototype is that it's just that and as far as we know it's the only one.

And who cares about the damn fugitoid toy? I think it is SO great that Peter loves it so much, and takes so much pride in it. When we were shooting his last interview at his office he couldn't wait to get outside and shoot cool pictures in his stream by his house with the reflections on the toy. I was talking about it being just like the pages in the comics and wanting to try to get that. I think it is sad that here is a guy who is so pumped to share something special with everyone and we are worried that it is the ONLY TOY.... oooooOOOOOOOoooooooH. Sorry i just think its a little silly to worry about it.
