Does anyone think that Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation will get released in the U.S. this year?

Doubtful. With Venus retconned and all, and Peter Laird hating it more than most fans do, I don't see it ever getting a proper release.

It doesn't matter what Peter thinks, Mirage doesn't own the rights to the show (I believe it's now in the hands of Disney?). But there's still a 99.99% chance of the show never being released in the US.

I believe Surge Licensing holds the rights.

Even as much as I don't really care for TNM, I wouldn't mind it in my collection. Just to have it. My nephews would probably like it cos they're under 6s and my littlest neice might like Venus.
Raph was kinda cool in it, at least he had his bad ass attitude

I remember this show being rather embarrassing, even if you were to exclude Venus the rest of the show was rather childish as well.

In my mind there are only TWO TMNT shows, the original 80's cartoon and the 2k3 series.

IMO, its the only show that actually deserves to be forgotten.

I have a question about the UK version of TNM. Is it censored or is the only thing different the title from ninja to heroes? Just wondering if its worth getting the UK dvds.

Disney bought Saban and everything it owned. So yeah Disney owns the show most likely. And they are horrible at releasing shows, so don't expect to see it. The closest chance we'll ever haver is when the new live action movie comes out and they want to cash in on it but with Disney you never know.

They're censored, but IMO still worth the alternative of nothing.

While I'm not exactly itching for it, I'd still pick up if it ever got a stateside release. You know, just to watch again out of morbid curiosity.

If it were released in the US in Uncut i'd most likley buy it.

To rewatch it again and see how much it has changed over the years.

I agree with you. Who needs edited episodes, it's called Butchering.

They should have extra features....

The PRIS episode with them.

FoxKids promo ad (where they play as a band).

Speaking of which, why not Coming Out of Their Shells on dvd as well.

I always found it sad that people would defend or bother to watch this show, and then bash the 3rd and 4th movie, and to a lesser extent Fast Forward.

The only good things this show gave us is Bonesteel and that ep where Raph gets chased by a gorilla. The costumes sucked, especially for Splinter and Shredder, and everything else is mostly Power Ranger fare. As said even if you were to exclude Venus, the rest of the show is nothing to write home about.

The fact that it won't get released in the U.S. will allow Venus' character to fade into obscurity, as well as the other characters and aspects of this show.

Yeah, that show I was not feeling at all :thumbsdo: Then they even guest starred in a Power Rangers episode. Even Donny was frustrated with the show by flicking off his fellow turtles

I have never seen TNM besides a few short clips and the Power Rangers in Space episode were they cross over.

With that said I really want to see the show. I think despite what everyone says that the show is probably not as bad as they make it out to be.

There are many things I like about the show idea wise. I like Venus, I like the dragon lord and I like how the turtles look actually. Also I'm a fan of PR and if this show is more PR-like it wouldn't bother me. Not to mention I always wanted to see it as a kid. Plus I wouldn't mind if its silly which is what I think puts most people off.

I don't know how accurate the PR/TMNT crossover is to the TNM show, but yeah I didn't like that two parter too much. But I don't think it was exactly the turtles fault, the plot is just bad not to mention it was very early in the season and we had just gotten to know the new Power Rangers..The turtles did act too silly and all acted the same, however its when they became "evil" that it gets worse. I don't think its a good way to judge the show though since its a PR episode and a really bad one for the season, so even judging PR In Space on that episode would be VERY wrong and not a real representation of it.
They're censored, but IMO still worth the alternative of nothing.

Lame, so what exactly is censored? Just the nunchuk parts?

Disney bought Saban and everything it owned. So yeah Disney owns the show most likely.

The way I understand it, Surge licensed the property to Saban and Saban never owned it. Same with MWS and the old cartoon. If you check the end credits, you'll see the license mentioned:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles © 1997 Saban. Underlying property ™ & © 1997 Mirage Studios; exclusively licensed by Surge Licensing, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

I wish they had censored the "action" sound effects

Your confusing the rights to the TMNT franchise with the rights to the show. Surge licensing sold people the right to do stuff with the TMNT characters, but Surge doesn't and never has owned any part of the Turtles.

I actually liked the show. I thought it was pretty neat. But then again I am a sucker for stupid humor. It made me laugh so I was happy.

No, I don't believe I am. It's there in the end credits (this from the old cartoon credits):

"Executive Producer: Mark Freedman"
"This program is produced pursuant to an exclusive license granted by Surge Licensing."

If Surge had pulled the license, Murakami-Wolf-Swenson wouldn't have been able to produce the show anymore legally. I assume the deal was similar with Saban.

Surge licensing sold people the right to do stuff with the TMNT characters, but Surge doesn't and never has owned any part of the Turtles.

They don't sell the rights, they only license them. It's not the same thing. It's like when Pocket Books does Star Trek stuff. It's a license, not a purchase. I didn't say they owned the TMNT; only the television rights (and other licensing rights, toys, etc. e.g. Playmates interfaced with Surge.) Surge manages all the licenses, or they did still at least at the time of the 1997 show.

EDIT: I found a specific mention of Saban/Surge and the show where it's clear that it's up to Surge (from 1998, I assume they are talking of VHS), although I guess Disney or whoever would have to want to release it first...hmm....:

In other Turtle news, Surge Licensing, worldwide licensor for the Turtles, has licensed Saban Entertainment, co-producer of the show, to distribute the episodes to the home video market later in the year.

In 1997 I did watch it, but was very embarassed to call NT:TNM part of TMNT universe.

What I didn't like:
Venus, she really annoyed me, and the Shinobi magic chi stuff was far-fetched.
The cartoony sound effects were very embarrassing.
Ninja Turtles themselves acted like kids instead of adults.

I dunno the cartoon/show it felt more like watching power rangers without the robot animals.
Disney did show the crossover of PR/TNM once on Toon Disney. Toon Disney isn't called that anymore it's now called DXD.

They won't release it. If they wanted to they missed their chance because they could have just thrown a "25th anniversary" sticker on it and made a buck, if it comes out 2010+ no one will even look at it.

I figure the Next Mutation will be forgotten entirely as the years progress.

It didn't start the franchise on TV like the original cartoon did, and it wasn't current like the 2k3 series was.

It also only lasted 1 season, and since Venus is in it, Pete will make no mention of it.

Regarding the UK DVD sets of HT:TNM, most eps were trimmed to 16 minutes, but they were still annoying and embarassing. Someone just lacked enough integrity to say, "Power Rangers is stealing the audience and popularity of TMNT. It's time we made some Mighty Morphin' Ninja Turtles...". :dead:

I agree. It was in 1997.
