Hello all!

So amongst the crazy news flying around these days There is now a NEW TURTLE DOC TRAILER! With some cool sneak peaks of what is to come.

There is a lot going on with the Turtle Doc right now, so much more info to come.

We love questions and or feedback, so feel free to leave a post on the site or hit up this thread with questions and I will be more than happy to answer where I can.

I have to say there is a TON of stuff you don't see here in this trailer... some of which has... well lets just say never been seen before...

Probably well over 70+ hours of content.

Sorry we couldn't get more of you in there, but things are always changing and you never know what might happen down the road.

This looks spectacular. Seems like there was a ton of hard work and fandom put into this. I think this is the kind of thing that can make someone proud to be a fan of the Turtles.

I'll be waiting for a DVD release....one with that 70+ hours as bonus stuff.

Is the documentary only going to be on dvd or will it be available to be viewed online for free?

Also do you have a larger picture of your banner without the website address?

Well in response to your questions.... we don't know any more at this point. I may know more early next week. Things have changed quiet a bit lately.

I will guarantee this though... it won't be a for free thing. This has gone through two production companies, mine and my associates, so the budget as you can imagine is pretty large (although rather small considering other projects of this size). So even though we would love to share it with everyone for free we actually can't... sorry.

The banner... what exactly are you looking for?

In response to some other questions regarding Sandi Con. There is still a very good chance we will be there yes. Although in what respect I am not sure right now.

I can't believe how incredible this looks dude! Will the 70+ hours be extra content on another disc or something? You're doc has one thing that other docs lack: length! You're doing one hell of a job. Kudos! :thumbsup::twink:

Depending on the distribution outcome there may be a disc with different versions and or extra feature content.

That is a ton of material that won't all be distributed, just what is the most relevant best stuff.

^ hahaha well do you want mine? haha sorry, but that would be the biggest pain in the ass to ship. It is alas stuck on a shelf in many parts and pieces in my garage. That thing was freakin expensive to build. I think it was something like well over $300 all said and done. there was something like 18 feet of building frontage all unique with windows made out of opel frost gel for film lights.... also expensive stuff but I had a bunch left over from a shoot. The road surface is cool with sculpted curbs but it is all torn apart in my dads garage. Someday I might use it and or if not sooner than later I might donate it to my friends toy store for the window display. Also the coolest toy store in the world! I just shot a fun little commercial for him which I will post up when I finish it!

And too bad if its only on DVD since I probably won't watch it. My DVD backlog is already too big not to mention since moving shipping/taxes add a lot to it. Especially if I don't even know if I'd like it.

If you guys still need me to film some UK stuff down this way let me know. I can possibly do something here. I've been out of the loop on updates with this venture and TMNT in general because of University work swallowing me whole. However I'm in a better position to film something with my resources etc.

70+ hours footage sounds just about right when Documentary filming ratio is concerned :)

You can imagine how that hurts the independent film maker directly. I hold nothing against people who down load, but it sucks being on the other end believe me!! Don't forget this is our pocket, I get paid nothing to do this.

hehe more like could i even get the house back in order! we spent a lot of time cleaning house to make it presentable. the crew was cool, respectful and all that. we had a great time, went to star bucks and cold stone during break.
i jsut dont have a TON of stuff like others do, it's my #1 fandom but it only shows in my computer room.

You all know me as Canadian Turtle here on the board, I am actually a young film maker from the Toronto area named Isaac. I am one of those people who only hears what I want people to say, so to be told this type of thing is impossible just doesn't register in my ears. We set out to create a fan based documentary with as much history of the turtles as we could find. To our amazement it rapidly changed into a living breathing monster of awesomeness! The things we've done and people we've met were truly life changing events. We plan on sharing all this awesomeness with all of you and the turtle world beyond the online community! The wonderful thing is the turtle community in the professional respect, is filled with the most caring and helpful people I have ever met! There is almost no one we could have spoken to that we didn't (if that makes sense) so expect some pretty cool stories from inside much of the turtle universe with some people who have not been heard from in a long time. There are also things you have probably never even seen! Which we are also excited about!

Anyways! Thank you all for your support and kind words! I truly can't wait to share this with all of you! I hope it is as enjoyable to you as it has been for us!

All of this sounds very fantastic and exciting and I want to be the first to delve into it and see what you've put together. My only hope is that -- apart from all the professionals you've been able to pull aside -- you found TMNT fans out there to talk to that are as angry as many are about the TMNT franchise's inability to escape the trappings of its children's spinoffs in the mass media... and not just a group of folks singing the praises of every aspect of the franchise as if it's all hunky-dory.

But you seem pretty objective so I'm fairly sure what we'll get is pretty balanced.

but I really dont think you're going to find a terrible amount of nay saying in the doc...I mean...why would they go out of their way to spit in the faces of the people who allowed them to make the thing in the first place...and then who went out of their way (opening their homes, offices, and lives) to make sure they had incredible content.

I'm not sure you understand what a documentary is. I mean, is it not a documentary but instead just a celebration of the franchise? In that case then it makes sense to omit people that dislike aspects of the franchise and just spotlight the smiling faces and cowabungas.

A documentation is supposed to be an objective look at a thing, warts and all.

The average doc has about 90 hours + of footage. Even if he wanted to that's like 40 DVDs of just interviews. As cool as you might think it would be to watch it'd get boring fast. Editing is what makes a doc interesting because a lot of people have nothing interesting say and you have to make sentences for them. That or they stutter and get nervous. You have to worry about that with fans though more then the Mirage crew and such. Sometimes you can chat with someone for 40 minutes and get two good lines out of them or you hit gold and get several in just 20 minutes. It's tough and all in the editing like I said before.

People are bringing up some very interesting and true points here! Spitfire's points about making a movie in the editing room are very true! We could cut together any number of one hour shows focusing on many different aspects.

Look at it this way. There is a ton of amazing process footage from many different "Behind the scenes" areas of the Turtle world. Which help tell the stories of how different things came together.

We will try to meet the interests of everyone in the fan community, but to meet them all at the same time is impossible. The 25th is a happy look back on an amazing trip! Where we will be focusing on many different aspects of the turtles, a large portion of which will be the more "adult" themed world in the comics. There may be some ups and downs, but negative feedback about the turtles won't likely be a part of this story. This is a phenomenon/history/impact/behind the scenes/celebration film. I hope people will still be interested.

Please explain to me how a self-proclaimed documentary that, in large part, is supposed to be an objective (if played up in an entertaining fashion) look at the TMNT fandom is being disrespectful by featuring at least one or two of the many TMNT fans (comic fans, generally) that find the children's spinoff side of things cancerous to the franchise? Of course this could easily be counterbalanced with opposing views from diehard cartoon fans who either don't like or never have picked up any comics.

To "bite the hand that feeds you" is to harm someone who has been helping you. Example: "We treat each of our customers with the greatest respect here. We never bite the hand that feeds us." If you feed an animal and it bites you on the hand you will probably not feed it again. If you forget that a person has been doing something to help you, and you harm the relationship, you are "biting the hand that feeds you". Example: "We have been your best customers for years. The hand that feeds (in this case) the documentary would be, in large part, Mirage. As they allowed usage of content and have provided aide and access on an unprecedented level. By featuring a significant amount of content that would portray said company poorly, they would be "biting the hand that feeds them".

A friend of mine mentioned that he wonders if Lionsgate just thinks they haven't skipped "Once Upon A Time Machine" since "The Turtles and the Hare" is on 2 DVD sets, not sure what to say on the "Planet of the Turtleoids" maybe they wanna release it as a seperate DVD set.

Why wouldn't they be interested if it will make them money? They could have a bonus "lost episodes" DVD. I'm sure they're aware of it from the amount of people I've seen saying "write to Lionsgate about these episodes!" The problem arises when people write messages like "You suck for not putting this out! I hate you!!" If someone writes, "I have enjoyed all your releases of the TMNT. I look forward to Planet of the Turteloids as well as other future releases" they pay more attention to it. However, the issue may lie more with the contractors hired to put together the DVDs than Lionsgate itself.

And no, Lionsgate is not an interesting party to be interviewing sorry.

What does that mean exactly? That Lionsgate is boring when you talk to it?

Sorry!! I didn't mean they were not interesting people. I was referring to the fact that in the overall story the company that distributes the material (and does not owned the copy right even for that matter) is not a very interesting addition to the documentary in my opinion. However some people might be interested in that as a section....

All in all, our project has nothing to do with lost episodes from the original cartoon. I am sorry I got into talking about it. I shouldn't have if it is such a touchy subject.

Despite all my feelings about the current state of the TMNT, which I think you all know quite clearly, I don't believe this documentary is the time or the place for them. There will be a time and a place to unleash hell, but there remain a few good reasons that it can't be right now.

I see Isaac's documentary as being a celebration of all that's been accomplished in the last 25 years, and most importantly, a celebration of all the people who made it happen beyond Eastman and Laird. The official 25th anniversary celebration (no, I didn't say 'it') clearly made no attempt to reach out to any of those people; a huge error on their part, IMO.

So yes, Andrew will likely find little value in the project since there's only one part of the TMNT his mind is open to. Them's the breaks, Andrew.

I'm OK with it being a celebration of all aspects of the franchise if that's what it's really supposed to be about. I just thought that in its inception it was supposed to be about real TMNT fans being real. All walks.

You know... kind of the anti-Fanatical, anti-VH1 deal.

I believe the way it's progressed will see fan spotlights be very minimal in the overall project, but Isaac can correct me on that if I'm wrong.

From what I've seen I don't know if I'd say minimal, but certainly not the 95% fan driven project that i think people were envisioning. Which had a lot to do with getting far bigger and better response from the professional community then they originally dreamed, I think.

I think that's it exactly. Which is understandable, really. No one expects Canadian Turtle and his crew to be like, "Thanks for your interest, Kevin Eastman and Steven Barron... but yo, I already have Jester and Archon_Turtle booked for 6 O'clock."

Hey all!

It is so great to see people discussing this with such passion!! This is what I love about this place and this fandom! People feel really strongly about it!

I will maintain the positive 'spin' here, for a few amazing reasons! Again this is not the time and place for a critical examination of the brand. There is some GREAT stuff on the horizon so just hang in there!

I will definitely admit that this project is nothing like what we initially set out to do, that part is fair. When we approached the fan community we expected to find those hard hitting personal stories that could delve into the philosophical reasons turtles affected peoples lives. What we quickly found was the majority of fans had a generally positive experience growing up with the franchise and were affected on subtle levels, which was great! However there are two problems coming out of this. One is the general message from fans was similar across the board so you have a lot of people on camera saying almost the same thing. Second we found there are a lot of fans out there who yes wanted to share some amazing stories, but they were all over the country!! Budgetary constrictions quickly caught up to us!

That said we feel we accomplished a ton on a shoe string budget, mostly because non of us are getting paid, and I own all the gear.

Archon is correct and fair in that we received an amazingly positive response from the so called 'official' community and have some amazing stories that I am sure even the most skeptical of fans will enjoy hearing all from their point of view. There will be some common myths in the turtle world exposed I am sure!

Spitfire and Rose are also correct in their own rights. Where the documentary would be three days long if we put everyone and all their stories in one place at one time. Thus the percentage of fans to officials is changing, however we still feel the fans have that opportunity to share their passion for the turtles on the same stage as the big guns! At the same time there will likely be some opportunity down the road for bonus content focusing on collections and fan perspectives in a more focused environment for sure!!.

I am even drawing a "cover" for it. I read that on the site and it inspired me to draw a turtles piece.
I'll submit it when I finish it. :)

As great as those drawings are from the stand point of a graphic designer none of those are suitable for a DVD cover as they are.

Personally speaking I think it'd be great if you could get some of the guys you interviewed to draw something or take parts of each peoples artwork and combine them. Maybe each turtle drawn in a different style.

Agreed with Spit here. Since the doc is (I'm assuming) an all-encompassing look at the franchise, you need some kind of collage that represents each different facet of the Turtles.

This makes me think of the picture distributed during the 1992 TurtleCon in Portsmouth, NH. Basically the entire turtle cast drawn by all the different artists.

That is a fun little poster! I have one signed by everyone on it! But it got damaged in the mail, oh well its still cool!

The cover ideas are all great! Things are so up in the air with the distro on this product that its just a fun thing for people to send it cool stuff, in hopes that something works for the end product. Ultimately that decision may or may not be in our hands, but we shall hope, and it NEVER hurts to have a bunch of possible designs from different people.

The ironic thing about that encompassing poster there, is I get the feeling that not a lot of the mirage crew likes that thing. It was made a while ago for a book they didn't put out, but something in that spirit would be cool for SURE! AS this does cover all basis of the 25 years and into the future.
