Is so nice to be sharing the same time zone with the east coast. :D
Well, this one had it's high points and low points. Low point, the whole story seemed rushed, cramped, or something. Plus the BG music they played at times seemed out of place. Don was like the old cartoon one, seemlingly being the know it all without much backgrund as to how he knows so much about nanobots. Aannnd... why did I get that TF Armada/Jason X/Scream sense in places? :-? ;p
Twas still interesting seeing how the Turtles handle a biiiig robot (oh, about the size of a Transformer) running after them. Poor Mikey!
Highpoints... the 2nd Time Around Shop, and April meeting Casey. That was just too funny.

i think this was one of the lesser episodes so far . . . definitely a filler episode.
next week's ep looks way better though . . . there's shredder and the foot trying to get a sword of some sorts . . . we also see shredder's battle armour, although i'm not sure if he'll fight (but i hope he will  )

it was a pretty good episode, the whole robot dying thing was sad :ksad: and to the Invader ZIM fans, didn't that robot sound like GIR when he screamed? I liked the April/Casey stuff :tlol:

just like i predicted, not as good as the other 4, but still...interesting. i think the reason we got that scream feeling was cuz of that guys faces lol, those were creepy. is it me or did the thing just pick up a shocked, and happy face, and then somehow had a sad, angry, and 3 more lol

Casey: How can we even talk if you won't even speak English?
Heh, shows what he knows...
By the way, that whole "changing faces" thing I think was a rip-off of a character from The Neverending Story 2. You know, the one with rotary card faces?

I'd give the episode Three and half stars out of four. There were somethings I didn't like (Anyone notice how the Nanobot's theme sounded ALOT like the Rugrats theme?), and no Casey Jones fighting alongside them!? Though, I did enjoy seeing April and Casey interact. Pretty funny. The next epsiode we see Saki's armor!!!!!!! :D Next episode looks great!
Anyone notice how this plot for this episode is nearly exactly the same as that one Real Ghostbusters episode where they delt with a ghost who took on the form of anything metal, and they used a magnet and molten to defeat it? :-?

Hmmmm.... yeah that wasn't that good, the robot dying was kind of sad too... :(
I didn't like how outragously big the robot became, I liked it when it was about the size it was when they were fighting it outside the antique store.
Also I agree with HT in that Don knew too much about nano bots and it was kind of ridiculous.
I give this ep a 6.8 out of 10

The episodes were getting better and better every week.....until now. It wasnt that bad, but the first half of the show was kinda, boring. The nanobot was kinda creepy, like when it said "daddy" and when it sreamed. Did anyone else think the music was weird when the turtles went to aprils shop? I didnt like it. They are. As a comic book and probably a new toon to follow, though it's going to be for the 14 and up crowd, since the GBs smoke and stuff. Think of it as GB3. :)

03-08-2003, 09:38 AM
The episode reminded me of a segment from the CGI pilot too, the dialouge was similar too.
Overall, the episode was enjoyable, but I enjoy the serial format. I don't know if it's just me, but I like the Turtles a lot more when they're fighting Shredder and the Foot. I don't really dig giant robots, utroms, the giant triceratops or any similar alien beings. I like the realism provided by ninjas and the Shredder. Although how realistic are ninja turtles?
The episode also reminded me of a Batman Beyond episode where a kid could control metal objects and built a giant robot.
I enjoyed the interaction between Casey and April and I think the guy who does the voice for Casey also did the voice for "daddy." I'm so glad that the Fox Box airs the old episodes early Saturday, b/c I missed the last one, "Meet Casey Jones." I caught it this morning. It's so similar to the Raphael microseries, which rocks and I loved it when Mike said, "I'm the pretty one."
I'm also impressed how all the turtles are distinct personalities this time out. Leonardo is focused, while Mike likes to have fun, Donatello likes to work with technology, while Raphael is the cocky, hot head. Their is more distinct characteristics portrayed in these five episodes then the whole run of the original series.
Finally, how tight would it be if they released the whole first season on DVD once it has aired. An affordable 3 disc set like the Simpsons season sets would rock. I'd buy that in a heart beat. I also hope they release the first season, the 5 episode serial, of the original series since that's the only season worth owning.
Sorry for the rant.

I agree with most of you it was a mediocre episode. Although storyline wise there were some important developments. Casey and April meet and we finally see the Second Time Around Shop.
I did like the action at the end of the episode. The Nanotech Monster was a litte creepy if I don't say so myself. The child like screams and "Daddy" were a little freaky. I also sort of liked the conman that used the Nanotech Monster.

Myopia is " a condition in which the visual images come to a focus in front of the retina of the eye resulting especially in defective vision of distant objects". So, myopic is often used to mean "narrow view".
Mysogyny is a hatred of women.
A myopic mysogynist is a narrow-minded woman hater.

Heh, I must say, interesting conincidence that the Nanobot thing with the comic and the ep about them happened atthe same time, no? ;)
Very creepy lil thing, with the masks and the Ger-ish voice. The ending with the old crook breaking down like that was kinda sad. Then the comment Don made about the bad parent thing just---Man, i'm so bad with this family thing... :goofygri:

~Oh, jeez-- I thought this was a great episode! (Of course, I've said that about all of 'em) I loved the Casey / April movie-like interactions, and Raph's sly question to Casey about "milking the boo-boo stuff" to keep April doting on him.
The "Scottish" guy that Mikey was imitating was Scotty from the original Star Trek series, btw....
Yeah, SC, I caught Mikey's leer, too. Heh heh....
This whole "filler" episode (which it wasn't really since two key characters got introduced and a whole new dynamic got set into motion) was SO reminiscent of early Mirage. Reminded me especially of the Tales if the TMNT stories, complete with an almost-sympathetic-but-mostly-pathetic-bad-guy and a sad ending.
It seems like there are many little bits of business that I barely catch. (Like in the rerun of last week's episode there's an interesting moment when Leo glances over at Splinter after Splinter has given hem permission to go above ground with the battle wagon).
And yes, it seems there were a few frames with the battle wagon this week that looked vaguely CGI.
I love this show...that's all......

I thought this one was going to at least be good. At least it showed April's Antique Shop. Looked alot smaller in size than the one in the First Movie. All TV Series have bad and good episodes. It probably would of been better if Casey was fighting than staying with April & just argue about antique and junk. I'll just wait for next week's episode: "Darkness on the Edge of Town". It will have the foot clan and Hopefully it will explain how Saki will become Shredder and how will he turn his eyes to red. Because I can telll Shredder's eyes are RED.

"Nano" was an enjoyable episode, but it certainly wasn't the best episode. The interaction between April and Casey was one of my fav. moments during that episode. I felt kinda sorry for that little (well, it certainly wasn't little) fella...that nano thing-a-ma-bob. I guess it definitely went "flat broke." Next week should be interesting.
I couldn't help but feel so sorry for Nano, first being trapped in that lab with that heartless scientist, then running into that con man. I understand making the thing act like a kid, but did they have to make it scream like that? Man, it just gave me the creeps. And the ending wasn't really "happy" either, I kept waiting for the Nanotech teams to show up and capture the thing, I really didn't want to see it destroyed.
On another subject, the April/Casey meeting was perfect. When they first meet there's a definite attraction, no denying it. But then Casey has to go and open his big mouth! Not saying April's not at fault, she could have taken the high road and just let it slide. Course, she showed a lot more restraint than I would have. But her taking care of Casey later was cute.
"You wouldn't be milking this boo boo thing, would ya?" Raph's so smart...
But they're fighting again at the end, which was great. I would have hated it if they just threw them together and made them an instant couple.
Also I agree with HT in that Don knew too much about nano bots and it was kind of ridiculous.
Well, it wasn't like he knew everything! Everything he said I knew before watching this ep. Nanotechnology has had its place in sci-fi for decades, the theories have been around for a long time, I'm not surprised Don has at least a passing knowledge of nanobots.
Overall, my least favorite episode so far. There were times during this that I had to set the remote down because the temptation to change the channel was just too great, that's what I usually do when a scene comes on I don't like. But really, not bad, I can see it's a good ep, it's just not my thing.
Can't wait for next week's ep! We finally get a fight with the Foot again, and it looks like it's going to be a lot more fun!
This episode was cool to me. So what if it wasn't that much of a perfect episode? That's good, too, because if every episode was equal, we would get bored quick. That's why they sent us a less-than perfect episode, to get us hyped up for the next awesome episode.
BTW, it's good to see April doesn't just wear one set of clothing every episode: she wears pajamas, too!

Anyway. Decent episode. Nice seeing April back, and the sparks between her and Casey were shooting almost immediately. And the poor Nanobot! It doesn't know any better. So sad. Why, Donny? Did your sexually-deprived nature drive you to the brink of insanity?

There's nothing wrong with straight evil characters, but its not realistic. Its good to have some variety. So far we really haven't seen anything but ego and anger from the villains. I call "Nano" a nice change of pace.

I really felt that the con man was genuinely sad about the "monster"'s death. At first he regarded him only as a tool, but as the episode progressed I felt he formed a friendship with the thing.

The April and Casey part reminds me of Casey and April in TMNT 1. this episode also reminds me of one SwatCats episode when the Metalat Cats used a ball orb that can get bigger by aplaneces. I'm not really a SwatKats fan but this episode is alot like that one. It seems this one was a waste for me. I'm only going to see the 10:30 one only. Because "Nano" was more of a 3 1/2 episode. At least we'll see more about Oaku Saki in Next week. And We all know it won't be a disapointment to us all.

:-? I haven't seen this new shred yet but it seems to me it was much better when shredder's eyes were beautiful and brown. We could see them, his swarthy skin, his frowning eyebrows. Now he looks like a robot. Red eyes? his costume is black. I can say he was kinda sexy and now? And the turtles? Their eyes? Did it seem to me or their eyes are white through their bands? Or may be it only seems so when i watch the pictures. :| Anyway i like the new cartoon but sometimes i begin missing the old one :dead:

I liked the episode a lot. I saw the preview last week and thought I wouldn't like it, but it surprised me and was better than I thought it would be.
Next week's looks good, too. I was excited to see Shredder hold up the picture he received at the end of episode 3. I'm a sucker for that kind of serial have-to-watch-every-episode-in-order-to-fully-appreciate-the-seasonal-story-arc type nonsense.
I'm also excited about the new/old Back to the Future cartoons. I used to watch them, and this time around I'm going to tape them. The commercials for it said March 22nd. Hmm... I guess I'll have to check my local times to see when it debuts here. It's kind of strange that they're airing it.
I also watched Fighting Foodons this morning. That show is absolutely ridiculous and over-the-top. Was hoping a TMNT toy commercial would come on so I could tape it, but no luck. I saw my fair share of Frankie Muniz. Man, in 15 years when he is funny to mention (like Gary Coleman or Mr. T), I'm going to watch the tape I made and laugh my head off.
That is, unless of course, he actually survives. But then it will still be cool to have it.

I liked the episode. The whole plot was something similar to what you'd see in the old show, and there were some very similar old music tracks. Casey Jones is still a little to anime-esque drawn for my tastes and I'd like to take this time to say that Elias Koteas is and always will be Casey Jones. Anywho, Mikey was funny as usual, Don was clever, Leo was wise and Raph was, well, Raph -- all as it should be.

Yeah... same here. But I gotta ask, what possessed the studio to come up with an infant enemy that was never familiar in the first place? I mean sure, he was almost unstoppable, but he was such a corny enemy. I wouldn't mind this NANO guy on the video game, because that means we will have a hard boss. But why put in this metal consuming character when it would only last one episode and be so childish? Maybe you guys already talked about it... but it still ponders my mind.

If this was the first episode that you have seen, you definitely picked the wrong week to start watching. You missed out on alot of good stuff. The fued with baxter was good, the origin story was great, and last week was my favorite with Casey/Raph. This episode wasn't bad, but not nearly as good as the other four eps. If I were you I would most certainly tune in next week, because that one looks to be freakin awesome.

Funny that the one episode I really like so far is one everyone else sees as some cheap filler :P *sigh*
By far, the storyline was the highlight of this methinks. I really liked the decidedly creepy overtones of this episode, and the nanobot's baby-like "themesong" reminded me of some Akira scenes right from the start. Hell, I was intrigued within the first 3 minutes of the episode, for a change. The exchanges between Casey and April could've been better, but they were alright. Casey's VA sounds a bit better, but not by much.
Now for the only major nitpicks I had about this one: in that one scene where all four turtles land and get into fighting stances around the nanobot, the landing animation was really horrible. Would it really hurt the animators to draw several more frames detailing Leo and Don actually landing instead of just being plopped onto the scene in stiff standing positions? Bleh...taking animation courses ruins alot of the cartoon-watching experience, I tell ya.
But hey, overall I liked this one. And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought "Hey, that sounds like GIR!" when the nanobot did that screaming thing :))

~The only complaint I could have about this last ep was that there was too much being told in too short a time period. The introduction to an already- complex April/Casey relationship, the creepy implications of the "child" nanobot robot thing and his mercenary "father", the many direct references to pop culture (Star Trek to Star Wars) and to Turtle stuff from the past...I'unno...anyone else think this oughtta be an hour- long show? The writing warrants it. Great stuff.

With regards to Nano:
But I gotta ask, what possessed the studio to come up with an infant enemy that was never familiar in the first place?
~Well, this may be a wild shot in the dark, but I suspect Peter Laird has a real fascination with nanobot technology, and he has said that he is working closely with the script writers this time. We had nanobots appear in one of the "red sky" episodes with Dregg years ago, remember? And nanobots are currently major players in the new Mirage book. I see a pattern here....

AI may not "age", but it sure can learn and develop. Perhaps adopt human mental development trends :P

~I thought the child-like quality of the hive-mentality/personality is what gave the whole story the kick in the gut. Nano's innocence made him vulnerable to manipulation by the first human that seemed to be nice to him. The female tech in the lab zapped him for demonstrating "personality", and in contrast the con-artist sleaze dude was pretty kind....
Johnny-5 (Short Circuit) was child-like and innocent when he first came to life, too. Different kind of robotic life form, but a similar idea.

Nah, he just had a personal grudge against Nano for scratching the Battle Shell.
About Casey looking like anime, I aslo disagree. He looks more like Disney! Of course, after seeing Tarzan on TV last night, they do didffern slightly. Tarzan has a longer chin and nose, with bigger eyes. But they do kinda look simialr. :goofygri:
Oh, and I loved that lil goth girl and robot Flash. Such a cool ending one would not have guessed in a longshot!

Yeah... and it's also like dear ol Tokka and Rahzar. They started out as innocent babies, doing only what Shredder and Tatsu told them too. At least the Nanobot had the sense to call the guy Daddy, instead of Mama. :P
But what's really funny, the more we talk about this ep, the more I'm liking it now! Not to mention the realization of how long nanotechnology has been around. Hats off to the TMNT for making me more aware of it! :goof:

Okay I was thinking about all this DON stuff. And here is what I came up with. He's into science right? So what if the nano technology was published in a journal he read? He said he knew what they were, as if he'd heard of it before. Its possible, scientists publish all kinds of stuff and Don prob reads them ALL.
As far as how to track them, he said they give out a signal...he was just looking at them under the microscope, so he could have been looking at them for a while before the other guys started to ask questions.
The point is he is DON. And he's the one who's going to give out the expository information to move the plot along. Its just how it works when you're the smart one.
I gotta say though that the line, "uhhh...insuficiant data boss" was GREAT I laughed so hard. Not as good as "I'm the pretty one" but...I'll live until next week.
Speaking of next week...is anyone else just drooling with anticipation? Or is it just me? I canNOT wait to see this one. I'm so happy turtle mainia is on its way back...but for most of us here...it never left. LOL
