View Full Version : Massive TMNT Archive Idea

Hiya everyone. Im unsure if anyone has thought about doing this but here goes.

I ran an idea to krang a fair while back (before my pc died) and asked him what he thought of an Archive category dedicated to complete listings of official TMNT items released. Im currently doing all the cards I own (will need help with what I dont own) and im not just meaning the names but pictures linked up to those names(check the example). I have an online card libary called rarecardz Libary and after I joined here the idea for a TMNT Archive popped into me head.

example (click the names)

- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Title Card (http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/rarecardz_libary/1.jpg)
2 Leonardo (http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/rarecardz_libary/2.jpg)
3 Michaelangelo (http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/rarecardz_libary/3.jpg)
4 Donatello (http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/rarecardz_libary/4.jpg)
5 Raphael (http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/rarecardz_libary/5.jpg)
6 Master Splinter (http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/rarecardz_libary/6.jpg)
7 Reporter April O'Neil (http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/rarecardz_libary/7.jpg)
8 Crimefighter Casey Jones (http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/rarecardz_libary/8.jpg)
9 Danny Pennington (http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/rarecardz_libary/9.jpg)
10 The Shredder (http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu148/rarecardz_libary/10.jpg)

Could you imagine that but with toys, coins, posters, games, movies, comics and just everything and anything turtles??? I believe it would be a great asset to everyone not just the collectors but the whole site, but then again it would make collecting TMNT easier for those who do or plan to. I have 4 sets of cards fully completed in my libary and are also ready for the Archive. However this is not something I could do myself but will need the help of all the collectors out there.

Its also possible to make a seperate board for an archive then link it here but wouldnt it be best if The Technodrome owned it??

What does the community think of this idea?? Please post your thoughts here wether good or bad.

It's a great idea, I've already started one for toys on my flickr acount some time ago.
but just recently added Playmates toys catalogs.

Why is Leo on the Don card and why is Shredder in Alaska?

Neat idea I've always wanted to see these.

Now, Spitfire, why wouldn't he be in Alaska? :blanksta:

Ive always wondered why they made such a big mistake on Dons card. I will be doing 3 sets of the movie even though theres not much difference in them. The cards pictured are the USA packet versions. I'll focus on getting the rest of the sets done if people are keen for this archive idea.

Ive been talking to krang and im about to forward him scanned pictures of all the cardbacks I own and pictures of the figure MOC. But no way do i own everything. I think between a few of us we can have this down.

I really think we can do better than what ninjaturtles.com has.

Something similar to what yojoe.com has would be great.

Are the card backs from toys? Ive never seen the 2 sites you mentioned but I'll go have a look. I reckon with enough collectors we could do something massive.

Yeah I took like 100 or so MOC tmnt figures placed em on my scanner and voila! high res pictures ready for archive! Ninjaturtles.com has a great archive section but lets face it, the pictures suck. too small. cant read the file cards etc.

yeah go check out

http://yojoe.com/toys/ for a massive gi joe archive

and http://ninjaturtles.com/ for one of hte only ninja turtles archive sites.

We can do something truly awesome here.

Front of the card, back of the card, loose picture, picture of weapons and any variations released. It would rule.

Here an example of the card back I scanned:

I've taken allot of the photos for ninjaturtles.com I've sent in allot of stuff but Dan never got around to uploading them or whatever.
I have allot of stuff on my flickr acount like I said before also, I wasn't aware that they would want to hoast such an extensive listing of photos on this site though as I thought it would kill their bandwidth.

I appreciate the concern, but we actually have plenty of room to spare there and are always looking for more content to add to the site. If you're interested, maybe you could collaborate with Dark 5cythe?

Krang; no problem but the only concern I have is that a topic on the techno board only allows 10,000 characters and most of the card sets have around 12 to 15,000, fleer will be up to 20,000 unless if I take out the bold and colour code im sure it will cut it right down, maybe below the topic limit.

Dark 5cythe; I had a quick look at the 2 sites but still believe we can do just as good or even better. Might take alot of work but hey, be worth it.

Seeing that card back with the toys brings back some awesome memories. I remember getting that splinter for a birthday... how I miss being able to play with toys.

Well I'll do the cards but we still need someone to do the comics and other stuff. Theres still cards that I dont own so if someone reading this has something thats not on the list below let me know and we can arrange something.

cards I'll be doing

Movie 1 , ireland, usa packs and collector box. (just need to hunt down a regina NZ set)

Movie 2 secret of the ooze (im sure only usa had this and movie 3)

Movie 3

Series 1 Ireland (packs and collector box are identical so the set Ive already done will be enough)

Series 1 regina New Zealand

Series 1 USA packs and collector box

Series 2 packs and tote pack are identical cards so again 1 set is enough but pack photos will be added

Fleer 3d cards (still need 2)

Fleer Series 1 (i have everything except splinters sewer cover)

Fleer Series 2 (bidding on a complete set so hopefully I'll win that)

Unleashed TCG (I have all but 11 cards finished already, includes all 180 cards minus the 11 missing)

I think thats all I have but will have to check. Heres my email [email protected] if somone has cards not listed please email me the set name with scans of the front and back of the cards. Big ask I know but needs to be done.

Yeah anyone can help. Archon posted 3 minutes before I done my last post and just wanted to wait so it didnt look like I double posted. More knowledge the better then we can cover more items. My knowledge only covers a certain amount of cards so everything else is really up to everyone else that knows what they're talking about.

Feel free to use multiple posts if you can't fit a collection into one post. You can even post several placeholder posts in a row to reserve them for future use. Also, although colors need to be within the URL tags, bold can be outside, so you can remove all the bold tags and just put a at the beginning of the list and a at the end to save some characters.

Well I'll do the cards but we still need someone to do the comics and other stuff.
You're welcome to link to our comics section (http://www.thetechnodrome.com/comics/) for that part. Speaking of which, if anyone would like to help fill in any of the blanks in that section, please contact Bebop (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/member.php?u=204).

Vaughn where in cali are you? Any other Southern Cali people around?

So where and how will this be set up? I think the easiest way of doing this is to have the Site Admins create a Toy Archive section Forum section. Then it can be sub divided by either types (figures, vehicles, playsets, collectibles) or by years. And we can just post a thread for every figure and link them all to main index or something.

Maybe something like this (from my site, the OTHER TD :D)
http://www.theterrordrome.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=134

And a thread for each figure looking like this:
http://www.theterrordrome.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=784

We can keep it very neat, very comprehensive thanks to Vaughn and archon, and monkeyman here seems to know the cards very well.

krang: that will work. Doing it that way will take out up to 4000 characters just for the 1st movie.

Dark 5cythe: that looks good and will work but wouldnt 1 good photo be enough? or maybe mspaint or photoshop pics together like Ive done with the front and back of the cards to have multiple photos in 1 pic which I can help out with. Deciding how it should be layed out would be the hardest part. Everything is basicly a collectable so I dont think a collectable forum would work. Up to you guys.

What about someting like,

Toys - including everything and I know this will be a massive part. Maybe done in the years of production might be easier to catagorize
DVDs - ranging from the original toon to the present one
Comics - maybe done in series
Playsets - im not too sure what that means exactly but if theres heaps then maybe having its own part would be needed.
Other Collectables -like cards, badges/pins, stickers etc.
Misc - being like cups, chairs/bean bags, watches etc.

Other collectables and misc is a bit iffy but im sure we could figure something out.

Dark 5cythe
06-25-2009, 04:09 PM
Im just thinking we need to buckle down and start one first and do it well. The most popular being toys. If we can pull it off we can expand it to all the other stuff. When i mean collectibles i mean non toy stuff like media, clothes, tmnt frisbees, etc etc.

1 photo is a no go man. If we try to cram multiple pictures into one image using PS, we would have to shrink down the image substantially so it fits. and the whole point of us doing this is so we can have GOOD high quality pics unlike the archive at ninjaturtles.com

Either we do it right and go all out or whats the point? We wanna be the best right?

saiyan_monkey
06-25-2009, 04:15 PM
For sure. Im just putting ideas out there. Im gonna redo and delete most of the code part for the sets Ive already done then im going to continue doing the scannig of what I own. I understad now what you mean for the collectables. I had a look on ebay and I wasnt that suprised for some reason on the amount of stuff there really is.

I like what you have done with the other TD.

I believe I have every single cardback and figure from the 2k3 series, fast forward, 07 movie and tons of old carded figs that I have in no particular order. I would like to know how I could help out.

Well I dont totally want to put down the hardwork that ninjaturtles.com has done. After all, theyre somewhat the inspiration and the predecessor. They blazed a trail for sure. But now its time to build a better mouser, so to speak lol.

I dont have any figures besides the 4 turtles from the 2k3 series. I dont know about the rest.

Any help you can give is appreciated. The easiest thing to do is if you have a scanner, place them all one by one on it and scan the cardbacks in at 250-300 dpi and save the images as jpegs. And Just take pictures of the front of the figure MOC or loose too.

for loose figures, we dont really need a million poses. I think just one front and back view and a layout of the weapons should do it.

Ideas anyone?

Yeah that's all on them, I've sent them large files and they shrink them down.
Dan also doesn't want to include variants besides ones like collector cards or coins.
Box changes really don't count to them, I guess it's just us crazy collectors that care eh?

Yeah, someone at work, 30 yo male, never even heard of the word "Technodrome". My jaw dropped and I was just stunned. To never even have heard the word until now astonished me.

Well anyways, I will start scanning tomorrow night. For continuity, some questions...

Where should we dump the files as we make them?
For the cardbacks, what size should the final .jpg be?
Pics of the fig should be well lit and up close!
Loose weapons and accessories included in the same pic as fig, or by themsleves?
MOC items should take up the entire maximum pic size. (No border)

I'm sure there will be more as you find everyone is going to be submitting different sizes, formats, etc... Let me know where these are going and I will start uploading them...

Bigfoot: your help would be very much appreciated and sounds like you have a good collection that could help out alot. Different sizes would only matter if the pictures are going to be posted straight to the topic instead of linked up list like on ninjaturtles.com

krang & Dark 5cythe: what do you reckon would be best?

Just so people know I had no idea there was already a type of archive of TMNT on ninjaturtles.com. Bonus being I didnt find any cards there

You all can just call me D5, its shorter to type ;)

I think for now hold on to the pics bigfoot. I would say dump em into a photobucket. Maybe we can start a group one for just this. But, Doesnt photobucket automatically resize your pics to way smaller? That would be bad.

As for the size, since the forum doesnt seem to autofit pictures with the option to click on them for a larger one, I think we should keep cardback and card fronts at no smaller than 871 x 1163. I know it looks large, but any smaller and you wont be able to read file cards. I scanned mine in at 300 dpi.j

The actual picture of the figure or weapons can and prob should be smaller. I think a seperate group shot of accesories would prob look nicer, just lay them out on white paper.

If your taking pics indoors, be aware that light bulbs dont produce white light like the sun, so the colors will be a off. Natural light works best.

Even if all we have is a linked up list, each page for each character should be uniform. not all kinds of crazy sizes. thats what makes the other archive looks a little sloppy.

I guess the format is really up to Krang. We cant really start till he creates the sections for us. So I think that should be our first step. to determine categories and sub divided them properly.

Vaughn i understand about emailing them. I tried to email them and go no response. Its a big undertaking and alot of work.

As far as im aware photos stay the same size after they've been loaded into photobucket. Photobucket also only allows 2500 photos max for the free accounts and im not sure how much the upgrade cost or how much photos you can load into it..

Actually, I had been hoping that the toy archive would be part of the main site (http://www.thetechnodrome.com/), similar to the comics section I linked to above. That way, we wouldn't have to worry about storage or bandwidth for the pics since they would all be on the server, and we would have much more flexibility for the layouts of the sections and pages. Plus, it would be easier for people to find, not to mention it would tie in nicely with our upcoming 10th anniversary. :)

Of course, the choice is up to you. If you would prefer to have it on the forums, I'd be glad to set up a section for it here instead.

The same offer applies to your project as well, saiyan Monkey. If you would like to have it hosted on the main site instead of the forums, I'd be glad to do so (hopefully that wouldn't involve you having to redo any work you have done so far). Whichever you prefer would be fine with me.

Both of you, please let me know which you would prefer, and we can discuss the details of setting things up from there.

Either way im happy with which ever way you want to go. I do like the set up for the comics though. Re-doing any work isnt a problem for this place so it would really come down to what D5 wants to do. My main goal was to put the idea out there for every body and get the ball rolling and for me personally getting all the cards done to go online was something I had to do for myself and everyone else for some reason. Im sure that the 4 sets I have in my libary at the moment would maybe be the most TMNT cards pictured online but who knows I could be wrong.

Maybe but im only willing to let the cards Ive done be hosted at 1 place outside of my card libary and thats here and Ive been told by people that have sent stuff there and it never got posted on the site so I see doing that as a 50/50 chance of wasting my time.

krang - Ive taken out the bolds but with the bigger sets they're still 6000+ characters too big. Posting in 2 lots might be the only way, even with the green tags taken out they're still too big. one recommendation i have to this great idea is to also include a checklist of some sorts... maybe just a text file with a little box and the toy/comic/whatever name and number if applicable... that way some collectors can print off the list and check off what they have instead of having to make up their own list and compare to the archive on the website...

i know i just joined the forum but i have been a tmnt fan for a long time and would like to help out in any way if needed...

No, they came with the Playmates TMNT figures in late 1994 and early 1995.
They aren't real coins, they're made of plastic.

I haven't heard back from Dark 5cythe yet, but in my opinion, I do think it would work out best for it to be part of the main site. I can give you an FTP account on the server so that you can directly upload the pictures there (the same way Bebop updates the comics section).

You could still use Photobucket if you'd like, but it would probably be more convenient to upload them on the server along with the HTML files (it would also reduce the size of the HTML since you could use relative links).

Krang: Im still unsure what you mean excatly only because Ive never done anything that way before but im up for it and if you think it would be more convenient thats all good we can do it that way. I'll send an email to ya when Ive scanned the last cards and go from there.

I finally have a Movie 1 Regina New Zealand set coming so the Movie cards will be completed sometime this month and Ive just got the gold Fleer series 1 cards to scan then that sets finished.

Sounds good! Once the scans are ready, I can help you get the files onto the server if you're not familiar with FTP yet.

Just wondering how people are going or if you have changed your mind about helping???

Ive got about 128 card scans of fleer series 2 to go and then a few other sets. After I have done a set I post it into rarecardz libary, delete all the scans I have saved cause they're bmp files and then get new pics of the libary cause somehow photobucket converts them to jpeg.

I have completely finished these so far:

USA
Series 1 Collcetor Box
Series 2
Movie 1
Movie 2
Fleer Series 1
Fleer Series 2

IRELAND
Series 1

My New Zealand Regina set arrived yesterday which was good. The difference with that set is pink backs. So I still have these sets to go:

USA (priority)
Series 1 (packet set)
Series 2
Movie 3

NEW ZEALAND
Series 1
Movie 1

IRELAND
Movie 1

Theres a few other things to go like a card game I found of the original toon, 4 insert cards of the original toon etc. With life getting in the way it tends to take longer to get these sets done.

That completes my update anyway.

EDIT: 24th July 2009

2 more sets finished.

krang: Im starting the 3rd movie set today and should have it finished 100% by tomorrow. With that set done it would be the main U.S.A collection finished apart from the packet version of series 1 and collector box of movie 1. Would it be best just to load up all the main sets that I have finished and then add all the variation sets from other countries or would you prefer to wait till Ive done all of them.

Ive got 8 sets complete including having the bmp files converted to jpeg. Here's what I have so far,

USA
SERIES 1 COLLECTOR BOX -ORIGINAL TOON-
SERIES 2 -ORIGINAL TOON-
1990 MOVIE 1: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
1991 MOVIE 2: THE SECRET OF THE OOZE
FLEER SERIES 1 (missing the 4 emeralds)
FLEER SERIES 2: THE SHREDDER STRIKES (missing the 4 promos)
T.M.N.T UNLEASHED TCG (11 cards are still missing from this collection)

U.K & IRELAND
TEENAGE MUTANT HERO TURTLES SERIES 1
TEENAGE MUTANT HERO TURTLES CARD GAME

Im still waiting for the 99 card set by o-pee-chee and that new card game that was released.

What do you others think??? Do you want what I have so far to be able to view or wait for everything to be done. Please note I only get 2 sets completed a week and have 7 main sets to complete (I think, could be more).

Thanks for the update! In my opinion, I think it would be better to put it up in parts rather than all at once, but I don't mind either way. Also, would you rather upload them directly to the site using FTP or would you rather ZIP/RAR them and send them to me?

Which ever way is up to you. If I was to send them to you what would you need.?? Just the card scans and a plain checklist?

It would probably work out better for you to RAR them and send them to me. If the RAR is under 5MB or so, you can attach it to an email, but otherwise, please let me know and we can arrange a different way.

Also, in addition to the two items you listed, could you please include a list of which filename corresponds with which card? Using your first post as an example:

1.jpg Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Title Card

With that, I can write a script to dynamically build the list.

What about if I send you 1 set at a time cause all the cards are numbered and in the same folder the corrosponding checklist with it? It could take a bit of time to rename them all.

EDIT: I could rename them but id finish the 3rd movie set before I did. However I have complete checklist that have no code or url's in them. I keep 3 copies of a checklist. 1 plain, 1 with code and the last with code and links from photobucket. The checklist are also numbered to the corrospoonding card.

Sure, that sounds good. If the filenames are all numeric, you wouldn't need to include the file I mentioned before or to rename any of the images.

Ok thats cool. If you can email me at [email protected] I can bounce a email back to you containing the 1st set. It might have to be split up into a few emails and another email for the checklist. The biggest set is 66.3MB or would you prefer it all in one so it would be a download. Either way is cool if you could let me know in a email to start the ball rolling.

Its a shame the others no longer seem to be interested in this anymore.

Agreed. There are a lot of knowledgeable people around here, but it's too bad there aren't more of them who are willing to help us out.

That is a bummer. At least the site will be 1 of 2 places that has the cards.

Ive sent a email back to you with the first set. If thats all good I'll send the rest. I had a mate download it just to check it out and for some reason the doco with the checklist wont open for him. If thats the case on your end I'll just email it to you.

Not everyone is done with the project... I have subscribed to the thread and have been seeing what everyone's intention is... I would still like to do the comic book printable checklist, just wasn't sure if everyone liked the format I came up with or if I should switch it up a bit...

Thats all good if you still want to do that. The format on the checklist you posted is fine, and dont worry im only half way there with the cards, I still have alot of work to do.

I got the first set, and it looks like everything turned out ok since the images and checklist are all there. Thanks!

Heya krang. Just wondering how you are going on the sets I sent already??

I have 2 more sets finished and are just sorting through the TMNT Unleashed card game. Beacause I dont have all the foils yet I plan on just sending the non foil cards along with the super and ultra rares but then it will still be missing #26.

I'm currently working on the script to display them along with the related page design aspects, although I haven't had much time lately to work on them. Hopefully, I'll have something ready by next weekend or so. Once the script is done, it will be easy to add the rest of the sets you sent along with any future sets.

Thats no prob and no rush. The stickers in the Movie 3 set look like they were scanned on an angle. I tried a few times but all I could guess was that the cut was slightly uneven, not enough to notice looking at them but as a scan it was. Any other probs with any scan or missing a scan just let me know and i'll send you another.
